Politics / Re: How GEJ Missed The Golden Opportunity Of Making History - Olaleye Olawale by kutchs: 7:08am On Jun 08, 2018
Enough with this June 12 rubbish. It's no more important than August 11 1979 when the first presidential election held in Nigeria.
It's not more important than 27 Feb 1999 when presidential elections were held many years after Buhari and his band of renegades truncated the second republic.

People forgot that without Dec 31 1983 there wouldn't have been June 12. How a man who truncated our march to democracy and brought the nation to her knees is now being celebrated for this which ostensiyia a Greek gift amuses me.

Talking about missing history or whatever, GEJ immortalized Abiola in the best and most honourable way, naming a national institution after him which was resisted by the opposition.
How would the next generation of Nigerians know there was a man named Abiola if not through the immortalizing him?
How many people will remember Abiola is a GCFR after next year?
Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmad Bello, Micheal Okpara all had universities named after them. Murtala Mohammed, Nnamdi Azikiwe has national airports named after them, that to me is the best way to immortalized our great heroes, so Mr Buhari should go a step further and name a national institution after him.

GEJ did his best for Abiola but for pure and petty hatred was resisted.

How's my decision to sit at home a threat to national unity?
How's my decision to close my shop on May 30th the concern of anyone?

So long as IPOB doesn't block roads, force people back into the houses and disrupt other people's business, I don't see how it should concern ACF.

There are many other important things especially in the North to keep ACF occupied.
The North is being ravaged by terrorists Fulani herdsmen, thousands are being murdered every day and ACF doesn't seem bothered.
Northern youths are being lost to codeine addiction daily and ACF feels it doesn't matter.

How many times in the past has ACF condemned Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen? How many times have they called them to order?

Last last, a person's choice which doesn't infringe on the rights of others should not be a bother.

Crime / Re: Fulani Herdsmen Attack Seminary In Taraba, Shoot Catholic Priest by kutchs: 5:38pm On May 28, 2018

How many of the so called Fulanis were arrested and proven to be Fulanis?

With permission from my Bishop, Most Rev. Charles Hammawa of Jalingo Diocese, I Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Atsue (the Rector) want to announce and inform Nigerians and the international community that our diocesan Sacred Heart Minor Seminary was attacked in the early hours of this morning 28/05/2018 at about 12:30am by sophisticated armed Fulani Herdsmen (at least we heard their conversation). They shot sporadically at the Rector's residence, broke window glasses in the process, (litered live bullets were collected by police) windscreen of one of the vehicles belonging to one of the priests, they shot and injured one of the priests Rev. Fr. Cornelius kobah on the leg, beat up Fr. Stephen Bakari. From their conversation we were able to understand that their grievances against us is that the security men in the Seminary have been challenging their decision to graze right inside the Seminary: around the classes, football field, laundry etc. They said even inside the church if they see grass their cows will graze. Normalcy has temporarily been restored thanks to the prompt response from the Nigerian Police, Army, Civil Defense and local vigilantee. All our students are complete, none is missing. Two of them who were showing them the way to the Father's house suffered injuries from the sticks of the herdsmen. I had a meeting with the officials of the Parents Teachers Association PTA and the bishop has equally approved one week break for the seminarians to enable them manage trauma for a while and to show themselves to their parents that they were safe. For now this is the situation. Let us continue to pray for and work for peace in Nigeria.

Here's an official release from the seminary.

This is a big lie. I don't usually comment on all these stories because they are false. I stay in Jalingo and I can confirm that this is fake news. I know where the seminary is along the Jalingo-Wukari road. Not hing of sort happened.
Knowing where the seminary is located doesn't mean much. If you doubt the story take a trip to the seminary and ask the people involved. You may need to also ask the villagers of Jauro Yinu and even the army at the City Gate who were called in to help.

Will you just shut up, you are too despicable and irritating.
Those who were attacked know who attacked them. Come to Jalingo and speak with the priests and atudents of the seminary and the residents of the village where the minor seminary is located and they will tell you who they saw during the attack.

Idioots like you make these nonsense comments because you are safe from harm's way. Those who experience the attacks by herdsmen know how it feels.

Politics / IMF Doubts Nigeria'a Capacity To Repay Debts. by kutchs: 1:46pm On May 22, 2018
The International Monetary Fund on Monday expressed concern over Nigeria’s capacity to repay its debts and stressed the need for the Federal Government to mobilise more revenues domestically.

The Washington-based fund, at the public presentation of the Spring 2018 Issue of the Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the public debt in the region was on the rise.

IMF Senior Resident Representative and Mission Chief for Nigeria, Amine Mati, said, “The number of countries in debt distress has increased. From six countries in 2014 to eight in 2015, to 10 in 2016, and today 15 countries. These are low-income economies.

“Now, I know the question that is going to come from here is: Where is Nigeria? Nigeria is not considered a low-income economy. Nigeria’s debt stock figure, which is 20 to 23 per cent of Gross Domestic Product, is still quite low by any standard. The issue is capacity to repay the debts. So, interest payment to revenue is an issue.”

On the need to ramp up domestic revenue mobilisation, Mati put Nigeria’s total revenue at six per cent of GDP.

“There is a lot that can be done to increase revenue very quickly,” he said.

Noting that Value Added Tax rate had been quite low in Nigeria, he said doubling the compliance on VAT from 25 to 50 per cent would increase the VAT ratio from 0.9 per cent of GDP to close to two per cent.

Nigeria’s debt stood at N21.73tn as of December 31, 2017, compared to N12.12tn as of June 30, 2015, according to the Debt Management Office.

The DMO had said the composition of the debt stock as of the end of 2017 showed that external debt was 26.64 per cent of the portfolio, up from 20.04 per cent in 2016, while the domestic debt was 73.36 per cent, down from 79.96 per cent in 2016.

The Director-General, DMO, Patience Oniha, in her remarks at the event, said the government had been working aggressively to shore up revenues as well as reduce borrowing costs.

“The debt service is a function of the interest that you pay on those borrowings as well as your revenue. The critical part is that revenue has been low relative to the size of the GDP. So that has to go up,” she said in an interview on the sidelines of the event.

According to her, there is an aggressive drive to raise revenues through the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration scheme.

Oniha said, “What are we doing on debt service? The new debt management strategy, which we started implementing last year, seeks to moderate the growth of interest expense by shifting some of the borrowing externally.

“If we were borrowing on the domestic market, last year we would be borrowing at about 16 to 17 per cent and early on the year, 18 per cent. But we went to the international market. So rather than borrow that $4.8bn that we borrowed in the international market in the domestic market, we borrowed at below eight per cent. If we raised the money in the domestic market, we would have had to pay those high rates.”

The DMO DG said the government saved over N70bn from, estimated on a per annum basis, from that exercise.

“We are still borrowing because there are provisions for borrowing in the budget. But in terms of how much it cost us to borrow, we are working actively on reducing that and reducing the refinancing risk that we had with Treasury bills every 90 days, every six months.”

And what the hell. has that got to do with the issue at hand?
Being the leader of the state doesn't mean you should neglect the opinions of other critical stakeholders in the state. The state doesn't belong to you but to all.
The senators arw concerned about the mounting debts of the state which the state has no means and capacity to repay. Borrow $350m and mortgage the future of incoming generations is that what you want?

Many states today aren't viable, many can't pay workers salaries as a result of huge debts amassed by the govt which gets deducted from source at the Federation Account.

Politics / Police Name Shehu Sani Suspect In Murder Case by kutchs: 1:41pm On Apr 13, 2018
The police in Kaduna have identified a serving Nigerian senator as a person of interest in an ongoing homicide investigation.

Consequently, Austin Iwar, the police commissioner in the state has written to the senator asking him to appear on April 30 at the Command Headquarters in Kaduna for questioning.

“This is in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide transferred to this office by 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, alongside with exhibit audio CD in which your name was mentioned by the principal suspect,” Mr Iwar said in a letter to Mr Sani, APC-Kaduna Central.

PREMIUM TIMES obtained a copy of the letter on Thursday.

“This is to enable us fairly and timely conclude investigation into the matter,” Mr Iwar concluded in the letter addressed to Mr Sani through the Clerk of the National Assembly. A copy of the letter was forwarded to Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The specific case for which the senator is being sought is also not immediately ascertained. But there have been several reports of violent confrontations between Mr Sani’s supporters and loyalists of Nasir el-Rufai, the Kaduna State governor.

The crisis has also left the APC chapter in the state factionalised.

The police commissioner told PREMIUM TIMES that the case was not politically-motivated.

“A case was transferred to me and I am handling the case,” Mr Iwar said, adding that he would not give further details on the matter.

“The matter is currently under investigation and we don’t think we have reached a stage yet where we could inform the public about it,” he added.

Mr Iwar also said Mr. Sani will not be detained if he honoured the invitation, saying the police would have picked him up at the Senate if they had any intention of arresting him.

Mr. Sani blamed the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, for the move by the police.

He alleged that the Kaduna government had concluded plans to frame him up with a murder case.

The state government is using the instrumentality of the police to carry out this act, Mr Sani told PREMIUM TIMES Thursday afternoon.

He said the plan was revealed to him through a letter already prepared by the police inviting him for interrogation on the said murder case.

“There is an attempt to frame me up with a murder case by the Kaduna State Government using the police. A letter has been written from the office of the Commissioner of Police office but it has not been delivered to us,” he said.

Mr Sani said the case for which he was invited by the police is already before the court.

“This is a case that is before the court of law. The governor wrote the judge expressing his interest in the case,” he said.

He alleged that Mr El-Rufai wrote the judge handling the case to express interest in the case.

Mr Sani also sent a copy of the letter dated February 26 to PREMIUM TIMES.

A spokesperson for the Kaduna state governor, Samuel Aruwan, declined comments.

Since 1999, this is the first time, all the federal roads in southeast are receiving attention. In times like this, we must acknowledge some silent facts.

All the major federal roads in Igboland are under reconstruction, no president since 1999 has remembered us this way in terms of reviving the dearth of federal infrastructures in our region.

Why acknowledging this feat, we must as a people begin to differentiate between ethnic sentiment and genuine projects being upgraded that have direct benefit to our people.

These are some of the federal roads that works are ongoing in Igboland.

Pls verify and confirm.

They are;

1. Oba – Nnewi – Okigwe road linking Anambra state with Imo state.
2. Otuocha – Ibaji – Nzam road in Anambra state.
3. Abakaliki – Onueke-Abomega – Afikpo road
4. Nnenwe – Uduma – Uburu road connecting Enugu state with Ebonyi state.
