Politics / Re: Fayemi Declares Free Education In Less Than 24 Hours In Office by kutchs: 5:23pm On Oct 17, 2018
Quality education is what we need and not free education. No state in Nigeria today can afford free education aa what's needed to adequately and properly fund quality education is beyond even the annual budget of most states.
There's a huge funding gap running into trillions of Nigeria which needs to be bridged. However, that cannot happen when you remove one of the major sources of funding available to education.
At a time when the govt should be looking to diversify its education funding base, removing payment of fees by the beneficiaries is stupid. No matter how little, there must be some commitment from the beneficiaries but it must be such that they can afford.

BTW, what's the budget of Ekiti State?

I said it from Day One that Sen. Godswill Akpabio should have not be allowed into the APC family. He is known for violence. President Goodluck Johnathan tolerated this man and looked the other way while he unleashed mayhem in Akwa Ibom for 8 solid years. Armed robbery and kidnapping were at their peak. Gov. Akpabio killed and maimed whosoever came out to contest elections against him. He has never won a free and fair election before. On seeing that he cannot win any election as President Buhari has always insisted on free and fair elections, he smartly crossed over to APC with the soul aim of causing confusion and snatching election materials in his usual way. He should be stopped immediately. Never again. this is not a PDP thing. He is embarrassing Mr. President and must be stopped immediately.
Just shut up with that President Buhari loves free and fair election thing. A president who loves free and fair election won't send the police and army to kill and maim the people of Osun State for his party candidate to win election.

What good plan are you talking about bro?
For a committed set up in March 2017 to not have reach an agreement over just a figure 18 months after says a lot about how well meaning the govt is.
When Jonathan increased minimum wage in 2011, there wasn't this much stress, in fact many people didn't even know about it till the day it was announced.
This is a minimum wage that's supposed to have been reviewed in 2015 but three years after, we are still negotiating.

In comparison with Jonathan, Buhari failed or refused to do the needful. It was never in doubt that Adeosun is guilty as charged which should have prompted the president who claims to be anti -corruption to relive her of her appointment.

Is she supposed to pay for it? Yes

Forget about your 'usual hateful suspects'. They didn't ask and force her to forge the NYSC certificate, she did out of her own volition.
A law is a law and must be respected irrespective of how highly placed a person is.

Jonathan sacked Prof Barth Nnaji who was doing very well then as Minister of Power for conflict of interest (which even you would agree is not an offence per second?), he also sacked Festus Odimegwu for a careless and tactless comment he made as NPC boss. Nobody accused the usual hateful suspects'.

None of the PDP presidential candidates is more articulate than osinbajo. Not even saraki whose speech is distorted.
As articulate as Osinbajo is, he isn't the presidential candidate of APC. We need to hear the candidates state their position of key aspects of governance like the economy, education and health, sports development, fight against corruption and insecurity.
No matter how much Osinbajo knows, he can't take decisions for Buhari, at the end of the day the bulk stops at the president's table.
If. Osinbajo debates for Buhari, who then will debate for him as vice presidential candidate?

Funny thing is the current NBA president is a product of a well crafted rigging. According to Falana NBA elections were rigged to deliberately prevent Lawyers from voting. Hence only a few lawyers who seemed to be largely pro the current president were able to vote. This corruptionists are seeking to overtake the entire system to perpetuate unhindered looting.
Exactly what the lawyers are saying, if you have hard evidence against any of them head to the court instead of making noise on the pages of newspapers and maligning a whole group.
The lawyers aren't the reason why he can't get a conviction. The reason he has failed is because he mostly has no case against those charged except for agreeing with Buhari.

Even if Trump afiirms it, what can the FG do?
Ask Trump to apologize or what?
Send the US ambassador away from Nigeria?
Close the US embassy?
Impose sanctions on the US?
Impose higher tariffs on US goods coming into Nigeria?

What can Buhari do?

pryme:
Sorry Prof Jega, you are wrong on this one.
Nigeria needs a Strong AND Competent Leader.

Being competent alone is not enough, you must be strong enough to fight and go the distance wrestling power from the cabals and untouchable godfathers of this country where it's foundation was built on corruption.
No govt in Nigeria has ever been fraudulently beset by cabalism than the current one and the president seems powerless and weak to do anything about the wrongs. From Abba Kyari to Babagana Kingibe, from Madman Daura to Babagana Monguno you have mentioned something powerful that even the president quakes in their presence.

Strength (as u call it) in leadership involves doing the right thing, taking the right decision irrespective of the consequences but in Buhari we have a ruler who delights only in harassing and intimidating the opposition and those with dissenting voices.
That isn't strength, it's a sign of insecurity.

Will their impeachment suddenly change Buhari's conc stupidity and daftness? Will it change his utter cluelessness and hopelessness?
Even if Aisha Buhari becomes the next Senate president, Buhari will still remain the ode he's.

Bro, nysc is useless as far as i'm concerned. It is a killer scheme and there's no integration anywhere (check the bolded u quoted). It is a scheme used in defrauding Nigeria and Nigerians. It has outlived its usefulness. I served 13 yrs ago so i know what i am saying. As per ur insulting a professor, that was wrong; accept it instead of trading words on Nairaland. He has a right to his own thoughts and should express it as he deems fit. You and i know that to be a prof is not beans, he is not stupid, he knows what he is saying. Kemi didn't serve, its obvious but should you throw away a competent actor because of ordinary nysc cert? is she not a graduate? let her finish her job. If u throw away kemi, what about Buhari who doesn't have a school cert? Ur questions as outlined are valid, but the truth remains that this is Nigeria, a land where the illiterates employ the educated. Until we change the "format", things will continue to degenerate. I am surprised u didn't even abuse me in ur response, on that , u showed some decorum and education. But pls don't insult a Prof. again, its not a good thing
First things first.
1) I agree with you to the extent that the NYSC has not meet it's objectives which is a unfortunate rather. Should it be scrapped YES and NO reasons I won't be able to give here now.
There's something about law (positive law) particularly which perhaps you don't appreciate, once a law is promulgated bad or good it acquires a binding force on all to whom it applies. It remains so until it's repealed.

As much as you may say that the NYSC has become irrelevant, it must still be respected until such a time the FG through the NASS repealed the act establishing it.
NYSC certificate isn't ordinary because if it's she wouldn't have to forge it in the first place. Why do you have to take the pains of getting something that isn't of value? If the certificate isn't ordinary you wouldn't be required to present it before employment could be given to you.

Please I beg let us not ridicule national institutions because of our personal interests because the table might change tomorrow. If Mrs Adeosun forged the certificate as alleged, then it's wrong and nobody not least Prof Sagay should defend that. It's corruption and nothing else.

In my comment I don't see where I insulted a 'professor", I merely suggested he needs correction if he makes a dumb statement which is the case here.

Again, when we meet offline, you will know that I'm more than qualified to correct Prof Sagay.

oruma19:
if only u had one master's degree holder in ur bloodline from time immemorial, u would not abuse a professor of law on social media. pls behave like a trained child and not a mad dog
And you must know that you don't have to be a professor to reason intelligently and rationally. Being a professor alone doesn't make one wise but the proper application of the knowledge you have acquired does that.
When a professor makes a dumb statement he has/needs to be corrected. Isn't it a shame that a supposedly professor of law is defending and in fact wants no action to be taken against a certificate forger?
Isn't it a shame and ludicrous that the chairman of the a govts anti corruption committee is defending corruption because the offender is in the good books of the govt?

When did NYSC become useless and irrelevant?
If the scheme is as irrelevant as he claims why did Adeosun forge her certificate?
If the scheme is irrelevant, shouldn't he use his good office to prevail on the FG to scrap it instead of having young Nigerians risk their lives in troubled zones. 7 corps members lost their lives in Taraba State for something irrelevant recently.

In 2014, Buhari described Tambuwal's defection to the APC as the best thing to have happened to Nigeria's democracy and hailed his decision to retain his position as Speaker House of Reps.
They asked the PDP to provide the section of the constitution that prevails on Tambuwal to vacate his seat and as it didn't exist in where in the constitution the PDP played cool and allowed matters be.
Jonathan being the democrat he is continued to work with Tambuwal until both left office. Oshiomole and his jgang of robbers should accept that Saraki is the President of the Senate and will remain so until June 2019.
Nothing is gonna change that, not even the defection induced HBP of Buhari.

You keep running around in circles confusing yourself.
The Igbo have never argued that all the fought with during the war they manufactured. They have never denied external help. It's obvious there were some level of assistance from France before the blockade but what you can't deny is that they out of necessity produce locally to supplement the little coming from outside.

It's unfortunate you have never been to the Museum or Ojukwu Bunker in umuahia and have no desire to. That's the problem with most Nigerians. They think the world start and end with the little coccon they build around themselves. Go to Umuahia and see for yourself the great innovations of Biafra.
