Why Is Christian Dating So Challenging A Task?

It was quite easy for me to date as an unbeliever but ever since I got born again dating has been a challenge.
You might be looking at it from a don't do this, don't do that view. Leaving both of you pretty stiff.

Loosen up, you can alsways have fun sharing your beliefs with each other and sharing your views on many matters and in so doing getting to know each other 'purely'
that way you won't have manny surprises if you both decide to marry. This is a good way to discern.

For me Christian dating is quite simple. Just know who you are, and know that all you do is for the glory of God and for love of Him and your neighbor.

You can both be creative in your dating events. You can have fun doing the simplest things and that way you don't put yourself in an awkward situation.

The point of dating is to know a person, when you know their character you will definitely know how compatible you are. You don't have to sample (if you know what I mean) to know a person's sexuality. You can learn a lot just by talking to the person about the issue and understand that you are both adults, so you need not be afraid to have a discussion about sex. A book I will recommend to you is "Thoelogy of the Body" originally by Pope John Paul II and then made completely simple for everyone to understand (If you've ever read a Pope's writing you will know how complicated it could be) by Christopher West. I don't know if you are a Catholic or a regular Christian, but no matter what denomination, that is a wonderful book to read. It breaks it down, after reading it you will not have any problems facing a potential partner in the future.

But the best advice for you is to relax, be yourself, and have a set of prinicples for your life, and you will be just fine.

It really isn't complicated. Just breathe.

Just to say good job from you guys - keep the thread going. This thread reminds me of one thing, other threads in this (religion) section came and didn't last long, but this thread came and has been on till date and people post here everyday. It has a powerful meanning. It shows that Catholism will always live, it's founded by the Rock Himself and will remain strong.

Well first of all, the catholic erased all the early years of Jesus. so we will never know unless we are the priests that keep the papers away from the public that document Jesus as a teenager.
First of all the Catholic did not erase anything. There were no reporters at that time to document what he was doing in his life, there were no reporters at the time he started his ministry either, so what you have in the Gospel are accounts given by those who were there with him, don't forget the Gospels were written after his death and even after the deaths of some apostles.
How do we have the information of his annunciation and parts of his life? Well let's see as for the annunciation, Mary told the apostles of it seeing that she was the only one in the room when the angel appeared. She also told the story of his childhood or at least the ones we know, because she was the only one there. The apostles did not know Jesus until he was a full grown man. Common sense would tell us this, but I have come to realise that a lot of people on nairaland don't have that simple gift.
Let's also not forget that Apostle John also told us that there were many things that Jesus did that were not written down, well because the whole world won't be able to contain the books that would be written.

So quit with the whole conspiracy thing in the Catholic Church. We know what we know, because of sacred tradition handed down to us from the apostles themselves, the Bible itself is sacred tradition, so you have all that you need in there for your salvation.

I don't believe that he had any failures, but that is not to say that he didn't experience hurt. Hurt does not mean failure.
Maybe the poster would do well to define what he means by failure.
But seeing that Christ himself is God, he is perfect and is not one to fail.
So if you're a Christian and you believe Christ is divine then be careful in answering this question so as not to deny Christ's divinity.

He was human. Like every human we all make mistakes. But God forgives. Jesus was even angry at one time. I am sure you know the story about The money changers in the temple. He even overturned all of their tables.
He was human and also divine. He had the human form does not mean that he sinned along with us. He had the human form so he could feel pain. But he is divine therefore he could not fail. God is not a failure.

Jesus is the only one in human form that could do no wrong.
As for his anger, God himself gets angry, but that doesn't mean he is a failure.

What many of these denominations practice is RELIGION (A show of the outward),  Christianity is a life to be lived, not a practice or a way of life.
Religion is not a show of outward. Religion is your beliefs. People are too inclined to label religion what it is not. As long as you have a set of beliefs, you have a religion. So people please stop speaking of religion as if it is an abomination. You have your beliefs, there is nothing wrong in that, accept it and move on.

How can Christianity not be a way of life and at the same time a life to be lived. Isn't a way of life, life to be lived?

It could be because of what is going on in the Anglican church. They are now allowing ordination of gay priests. I do know that a significant number of anglicans have returned to the Catholic Church.
Yeah the whole gay thing, split the church right down the middle, not so good.

Quite frankly the whole taste of youth thing I don't understand. When did Christ say that we should choose churches based on how they cater to youths (this is assuming that Christ said there should be many churches).
He didn't come for the old or the young, he came for everyone.

It is not about the "happening" or the "rocking" church, Jesus himself wasn't "happening" or "rocking" so the whole thing with the "in thing" church baffles me.

Nothin bad in a woman leading the church. This as been one of the biggest crime the catholics/vaticans have commited painting Mary the Madgeline wrongly. She was a disciple of Christ too.
Firstly the Catholic church has never painted Mary Magdalene wrongly, she is a saint. If anything no one else honours her.

No I won't be a member of a Church where a woman is the Pastor. A woman however, can be a leader in the Church but she cannot be a Pastor. Christ did not choose women as his apostles, but men, Apsotle Paul already stated that the woman is not to be a Pastor.

Hi, we had very few drops of rain. We only experienced the bands. The eye is in New Orleans right now. It was supposed to be worse than Katrina but it has died down to a Category 2 hurricane.

Please keep the people of Louisians, Texas, Mississipi and Alabama in your prayers.

Matthew was there and so was John, John is the particular disciple that is very important. He was present at the foot of the cross and this we know. Luke does not contradict the other Gospels written directly by the witnesses. So that holds no base. He received it from Jesus' direct disciples.

Granted, but that's the whole point. McCain got it all wrong thinking that just putting a woman up there would sway the women. The women want someone like Hillary. She stands against what Hillary stood for. They don't buy it.

Plus don't forget that an Obama loss is a Hillary victory. It means she will be able to run again as the Dem nominee in 4 short years and I bet you her supporters will be taking this into account come november

i am not exactly sure the abortion rate will drop with obama as president because there are also more factors to consider though i do agree that poverty plays a major role.

Let me have your question please before I go into the alleged crucifixion of Jesus.
The questions I asked were in the Trinity thread.

When you supply your questions, don't forget to prepare yourself for proof that his disciples witnessed the alleged crucifion, why his disciples not believe that he had risen from the death, why they didnt return to Jeruslame to see his resurrection, where he was crucified (outside Jerusalem or in Jerusalem and some other questions, facts from your book etc
You can go on with the "no crucifixion" proof that you have I can't wait to see it.
His disciples were present, hello that's why they were able to write about it and one in particular was mentioned for a specific reason, but it's not for you to understand that yet.
The whole claim that the disciples did not believe that he rose from the dead is not found in the Bible, it is a calim and desperate attempt from muslims, I also addressed the claim that I know you will make above with frizy, go ahead and read it first before you make a fool of yourself.
um you must not have read the gospels to see that they returned to his tomb, that's when they saw that he was not there and then encountered him on the way back.

Palin should not have made the comparison with Hillary Clinton.

I think that was a big mistake; she should have allowed the voters to do it first.

Quite a number of women voted for Hillary because she was the first experienced and trusted female to run.

Also maybe you don't know it, but Christ's sides were pierced and he hung on the cross for hours. The other men's legs were broken to speed up death before being taken down.
Also the man is not hung or nailed to the cross to die. His point is not to die. The point of Christ's and everyone else that lived at that time's crucifixion was to die.

Lady if i will vote, i will vote for Obama because i see him as someone who likes peace and i'm sure he is going to do something about Iraq, but talking about the pro-abortion issue, i thought Obama is a Christain.  Why is he in support of  abortion?
Not only that abortion rates will decrease when he is president. The women don't exactly have abortions because they want to, it's mainly because they can't afford to have a baby.

Yup, he's a Christian. There are a lot of christians that are pro-abortion, even catholics. Basically, they view it as this: they don't like abortion, but they also realise that the country is not full of only christians or religious people. they also don't see why they should force their religion on others or tell a woman when she can and cannot have a baby.
i say the best way to attack abortion is to reduce the poverty level, and change the mindset of these women. getting them to see how valuable a child's life is and surrendering to God all their worries is the best way to change abortion.
bannin abortion will do nothing but endanger the lives of both mother and child and in some instances the life of a doctor (women can be very desperate).
also a doctor is not needed to have an abortion, there are also natural ways of having abortion. if they ban abortion they will also have to ban birth controls because most brith controls are abortive, only deceiving the woman that she's just having a regular menstrual period instead of an abortion.
abortion will then become black market.
to me it will only create more problems.
they also have not outlined how this law will be enforced, they're saying that the doctor who performs it will be arrested, but as i said, abortion can take place without a doctor. so the question becomes will they arrest pregnant women? that's is clearly going to be against women's rights. another question is how will they know she's pregnant, most women don't start showing for a while and even some who are pregnant carry very small (my cousin looks like she isn't pregnant and she is 6 months into it already).
This is a law that cannot be enforced, all it would do is give people or evangelicals a better night's sleep. But they don't see it that way. so hey.

St. Monica (322?-387)


The circumstances of St. Monica’s life could have made her a nagging wife, a bitter daughter-in-law and a despairing parent, yet she did not give way to any of these temptations. Although she was a Christian, her parents gave her in marriage to a pagan, Patricius, who lived in her hometown of Tagaste in North Africa. Patricius had some redeeming features, but he had a violent temper and was licentious. Monica also had to bear with a cantankerous mother-in-law who lived in her home. Patricius criticized his wife because of her charity and piety, but always respected her. Monica’s prayers and example finally won her husband and mother-in-law to Christianity. Her husband died in 371, one year after his Baptism.

Monica had at least three children who survived infancy. The oldest, Augustine, is the most famous. At the time of his father’s death, Augustine was 17 and a rhetoric student in Carthage. Monica was distressed to learn that her son had accepted the Manichean heresy and was living an immoral life. For a while, she refused to let him eat or sleep in her house. Then one night she had a vision that assured her Augustine would return to the faith. From that time on she stayed close to her son, praying and fasting for him. In fact, she often stayed much closer than Augustine wanted.

When he was 29, Augustine decided to go to Rome to teach rhetoric. Monica was determined to go along. One night he told his mother that he was going to the dock to say goodbye to a friend. Instead, he set sail for Rome. Monica was heartbroken when she learned of Augustine’s trick, but she still followed him. She arrived in Rome only to find that he had left for Milan. Although travel was difficult, Monica pursued him to Milan.

In Milan Augustine came under the influence of the bishop, St. Ambrose, who also became Monica’s spiritual director. She accepted his advice in everything and had the humility to give up some practices that had become second nature to her (see Quote, below). Monica became a leader of the devout women in Milan as she had been in Tagaste.

She continued her prayers for Augustine during his years of instruction. At Easter, 387, St. Ambrose baptized Augustine and several of his friends. Soon after, his party left for Africa. Although no one else was aware of it, Monica knew her life was near the end. She told Augustine, “Son, nothing in this world now affords me delight. I do not know what there is now left for me to do or why I am still here, all my hopes in this world being now fulfilled.” She became ill shortly after and suffered severely for nine days before her death.

Almost all we know about St. Monica is in the writings of St. Augustine, especially his Confessions.

She asked St. Ambrose which customs she should follow. She is my Patron Saint.
I loved her Piety and chose her, and she was African, too. LOL.

If a Pastor errs, he should be removed. Simple.

he is a human and is not infallible.

the only sad part is that many believe these "men of God" Are also seated at the right hand of God in heaven.

the schools, hospitals, radio stations they build should be taxed as subsidiaries.  government has no right to force a company into the stock exchange
question now is are they companies.

Interesting fact: did youknow that in the U.S. churches or religious affiliations are not taxed? No wonder the popping up of churches everywhere. grin

I wish not to make my statement on that, lol. let me leave these protestant churches alone

Point of correction, the Quran did not say he was crucified and do you care to give me verses to butress your quote above from the Quran? I told you in one of the thread that we need to revisit this hogwash of his crucifixion.
Um the quran has baby Jesus saying that he will die and rise again. and no where did I say that the quran said that Jesus was crucified. Clearly that stance of muslims is well known. But here's the one about baby Jesus stating he will die.

Sura 19:29 Then she pointed to him. They said: How can we talk to one who is in the cradle, a young boy?
19:30 He spake: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet,

No one has ever been on the cross that didn't die. The point is to die. So there is no way a person wouldn't die when crucified.

Does God have a mother?or is Jesus God to them?
It amazes me how foolish most of us can get and sometimes remain in the name of religion!
The holy see that has passed on apologies on behalf of the Catholic church.
Should you do research on the history of the Catholic church;you won't go near that church
"Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus"

Now Catholicism 101.

The first line of the prayer is the greeting the angel gave to Mary when he saw her and announced to her that she was to conceive a child, whom we call Jesus. Now unless you are trying to say that the angel is wrong, I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT!!!

The second line, well thank God it doesn't say "I worship" and it only says pray for us sinners, you know just like you ask mummy and daddy to pray for you, but whom better than the Mother of the Word of God to pray for us.

It amazes me how people expect Christ to dishonour his mother, the woman who said yes to having him, who birthed him, nursed him, taught him how to walk, taught him his language, fed him, raised him, started his first ministry even when he didn't want to, was there with him no matter what, saw him on his way to his crucifixion, and watched him die, shed her tears on the foot of his cross. It amazes me how we expect him to dishonour his mother, yet we dare not dishonour our mother.
It also amazes me how we expect God to allow his Word to become flesh in a sinful woman's body. Don't you know that sinless cannot dwell in sinful. Mary had to be sinless, and she was sinless before conceiving Christ. She was "full of grace" before conceiving Christ, and she was "Hail"ed before conceiving Christ.

If you had the option of making sure your mother was in heaven, won't you make sure she gets there, or would you allow her to suffer corruption like everyone else?

We wish to honour our mothers but we don't expect Christ to honour his. He who honours the mother honours the Son.

Now as for the Mother of God part, unless you believe that Jesus is not God then Mary is the Mother of Jesus. Unless you believe that Jesus' human nature was separate from his divine nature, then Mary is the Mother of both the human nature and the divine nature. Mary gave birth to a person, and not a nature. She did not give birth to a human Jesus and then the divine Jesus just came out of nowhere and joined the human Jesus after his birth. He was God in her womb, making her the ark of the covenant, who appears in Revelation as a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars, giving birth to the messiah. It was through her human nature that he was able to become human. She is also significant in that it took a woman to say no to God to bring about damnation, this is who we call Eve, therefore it had to take a woman to say 'yes' to God to being about the salvation to God, this is Mary. Mary brought about Jesus to the world, she had to say yes. Jesus is the New Adam making Mary the New Eve. There can't be a New Adam without a New Eve, Adam didn't act alone Eve was with him. It is also significant that Mary said 'yes' first before Jesus said 'Yes' to the Father's will. Eve said 'no' and then Adam said 'no'.
Jesus is both human and divine, without separation. If you believe this then Mary is the Mother of God.
The title Mother of God was not invented recently and neither was it invented to give Glory to Mary. The heretics argued that because Jesus was born of a woman he was not God. Mary was the factor. To put an end to it the Church declared Mary, Mother of God. To deny her the title is to deny Christ's divinity.

The dark history of the church is simply about the Catholic church.
In God's holy name they perpertrated all the atrocities in the past.
It also amazes me how ignorant people are of history. Oh no, forget the fact that Christians were persecuted wherever they went by the world leading to the spread of Christianity.
It also amazes me how people forget that the Crusades were a response to Christians being killed by Muslims and Christian churches being burnt to the gorund. For centuries christians sat back and accepted the atrocities being done against them, until the muslims burnt down the Holy Sepulchre.
Granted the crusades took a different turn from its purpose, but the world does owe a great deal of thank you to the crusaders because if not for the crusade, there will be no rule of law or any other law except sharia law and we will all be wearing turbans and screaming 'allahu akbar'. Everyone who did not want to be muslim would be wiped out.
We all wanna be politically correct. Rubbish, the truth is the truth.
We also forget that the Catholic church was persecuted by the Church of England (Anglican church) formed by Henry VIII because he wanted to divorce his wife and marry another and the Church won't let him and he also wanted to be the head of the Church. So those who refused to bow to him got killed (Catholics). It wasn't until his death that Mary his daughter decided to make Catholicism the Church of England again, that Catholics started persecuting protestants, dubbing her 'bloody Mary' but see everyone forgets what happened before that. They also forget Elizabeth I who avenged her father and started persecuting Catholics, but no one calls her 'bloody Elizabeth' nah instead she is queen in their sight.

Granted the Church has been less than perfect, but everyone wants to turn a blind eye to history and crucify the Church. All the more reason why I stay with the Church. It only shows that that's where Christ is. They persecuted his body then, they persecute his body now.

In the words of Archbishop Fulton Sheen (R.I.P.)

"If I were not a Catholic and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hates. My reason for doing this would be that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, he must still be hated as he was when he was on earth in the flesh. If you would find Christ today, then find the Church that does not get along with the world.

Look for the Church that is hated by the world as Christ was hated by the world. Look for the Church which is accused of being behind the times as our Lord was accused of being ignorant and never having learned. Look for the Church which men sneer at as socially inferior as they sneered at our Lord because he came from Nazareth. Look for the Church which is accused of having a devil as our Lord was accused of being possessed by Beelzebub, the prince of devils. Look for the Church which, in seasons of bigotry, men say must be destroyed in the name of God as men crucified Christ and thought they had done a service to God. Look for the Church which the world rejects because it claims it is infallible as Pilate rejected Christ because he called himself the Truth. Look for the Church which is rejected by the world as our Lord was rejected by men.

Look for the Church which amid the confusion of conflicting opinions its members love as they love Christ and respect its voice as the very voice of its founder, and the suspicion will grow that if the Church is unpopular with the spirit of the world then it is unworldly, and if it is unworldly it is other-worldly. Since it is other-worldly it is infinitely loved and infinitely hated as was Christ himself. But only that which is divine can be infinitely hated and infinitely loved. Therefore the Church is divine"

I am not a part of the Church in the name of religion, it only shows your ignorance to think so and your assumption of all Christians. I remain in the Church because of God, and I know he is the true living God because I have seen for myself. Thank you.
