I am still yet to understand how it is that allah could be so historically incorrect. I understand the Bible may be viewed as not having all of history, but those are so long agao and even historians can't prove them but only come to theories, as documentation wasn't prevalent as it is today.

as for politics, follow what the church has taught since vatican 2. everyman is free to vote for any candidate of their choice as long as he/she comes to that choice based on a rational and unbiased reflection. we are no longer allowed to vote collective along lines of religious denominations/sentiments since each man is responsible for the choice made.

Quite frankly, a christian is not to strive for the riches of this world, but for holiness.
All that a Christian does is to be for the glory of God.
Christians have always misunderstood that the riches Christ was poor for are earthly riches. God's kingdom is not of this world. A Christian's riches are not here on earth. That is not to say that a Christian must be dying of poverty.
But we are to be content with what we have and work hard to survive.

My kind of rich as a Christian may be different from another Christian's kind of rich. While others may be "sowing" for the riches of the earth, i sow for the riches of heaven.

Yeah it has passed but not without giving us a scare. I'm okay, but so far there have been 11 deaths reported due to the storm. There are plenty of damages. Trees were on the road. Classes started today, the computer lab in the school of business was flooded, luckily the computers weren't damaged, but the was a problem with the internet and the lab smelt really really bad.

Guys, I do need some guidance. I am trying to make my choice for President and I favour Obama. I do not like the fact that he's Pro-abortion, as I know what the Church teaches on that and I am Pro-life. McCain is Pro-life but I don't trust him. Even though he and his party say that they are pro-life, I don't think they are and I am not the only one that feels that way. I am also a practical person and do know how to step back from my views and observe the views of others and try to make the best choice for everyone.
I don't trust McCain and the republican party. I think they are only doing so to get votes. They don't care for anything else that I care for, and they have policies that make it extremely hard for people who are not rich to survive.
In one sense Obama conveys what it is the Church teaches on our behaviours towards our neighbour, the bad side is that he is pro-life. That is the only bad thing.
McCain's policies also promote abortion, in that he puts families in a position where they can't afford children and will think of having abortions when normally they won't.
Poor women are the ones usually inclined to have these abortions because they can't take care of the baby, and McCain's policy does nothing to help them.
The republican party is pro-life but in their administrations abortion rates increase. The democratic party is pro-abortion but in their administrations abortion rates decrease. The democrats do more to prevent the cases of abortions and the republicans do more to promote it, but their positions are opposite the outcomes of their administration.

I also relate to Obama's family, being black, working hard for my dreams, fighting for what I want and not getting anything handed down to me. I can't relate to the McCain family, they're super rich, and the wife is stealing from her company even though she does good to help others.
Obama's wife helps others a lot and doesn't steal from anyone.
McCain cheated on his first wife, even though he won't admit it during the race, but he's pro-life (i don't trust him though)

I am jsut being patient. I want to get books on the lives of the Saints. I want to read the writings of the Church Fathers.
I want to read Theology of the Body, I want to read Jesus of Nazareth by Pope Benedict XVI.

I have books that I have marked to read on womanhood and living as a daughter of God.

Oh I also got invested into the Confraternity of Our Lady of Carmelites Brown Scapular. I started the devotion and I say it's work, but very worth it.

That's my problem the books are all interesting to me. I always find something else that's interesting and I never finish the first one before beginning the second one.

The only Nigerian I have seen so far is Segun Toriola in table tennis. He defeated the U.S. man by the way. He has advanced.

God Instructed Solomon to make an image of cherubim and seraphim, those are angels.
God made himself an image when he became man, Jesus Christ.

Why do we not worship man? Because that is equating him to the level of God. Well if man is flesh and he shouldn't be worshipped, then why was Jesus worshipped. He too is in the flesh.
The difference is that an ordinary man is not divine while Jesus the man is.
Worshipping the ordinary man will equate him to the level of God.
Worshipping Jesus is keeping God at the level that he should be.
Yet both are in the same image, flesh.

God is asking us to not put anything above him. Today the "graven image" is sex, and greed and materialistic things. We put these before God all the time, even our families come before God.
Anything elevated to the position of God is a "graven image"

The serpent used in the desert by Moses should also be equated to a "graven image" if that is the case. But we know that it isn't. It was instructed by God to be lifted up to save those who were dying. If they wanted to be saved, they had to look up to the image of the serpent.


The icons used by Catholics are not in anyway a "graven image". They are not worshipped neither do the graces of God flow from them.
They are a reminder of the graces of God.

Why is the altar at Church well decorated?
It is because when people walk in there it helps them to remember that this is the place of God and that God is ever present.

Whereas when you go to the public dump you don't treat as a place where God will reside.

Same thing. It serves the purpose of helping you to focus.

We humans are very visual. Just as the saying goes seeing is believing. We tend to acknowledge something even more when we can visualise it.

That is all the icons are for. They are not to be worshipped.

don't think it's a vice atall because as saint Augustine said "You have made us for yourself o Lord and our souls are restless until they rest in you". i think it's just you wanting God, God and more of God. guess i used to be like that and u know the strange thing is that it doesn't last forever and i wish i were still like you now. enjoy it while it lasts n don't wish it away because when you lose it, it's one of the hardest things to get back (if at all )

Oh I don't plan on wishing it away. I think the issue is that as time goes on it will no longer be used as a necessity but as a casual thing and it won't hold much meaning to it.
Basically as with food, we need it, but as a glutton it is just to be eaten no matter what at all costs. It no longer serves the purpose of nutrition.

But I am curbing it a bit, and keeping it to moderation. I have noticed that it has left me with a lot of books half read. I have to finish them now, one by one, instead of at one time and not learning anything from it.
I will still continue to read and pray but on a steady pace, and not as if I am on crack (lol on crack for the LORD)

Am suggesting that emphasis on their maltreatment is untrue, but I don't know of Indonesia.

you know i was watching this documentary on cnn. it was about a group of boys in school and their struggles. They are Iraqis.
One of them is a christian.

On his camera he admitted that he is a christian, but he's hiding it because he is afraid of getting killed.

Don't for one minute think that these people are not persecuted. They are persecuted heavily. The only thing that will save them is converting to Islam or paying the Jizyah.

So since you want to equate the things christians face in muslim countries to what muslims face in secular countries (note that most western countries are not christian, but secular), let us talk about hte tax. Muslims are not taxed or subdued in any other nation in the world, yet non-muslims are taxed and subdued in muslim countries.

If you dare deny that then either you are a liar and have sinned against allah or you don't believe in allah's commandment to have the non muslims subdued.

please don't compare it. you have freedom in the world, but the world doesn't have freedom in your msulim countries.

We Nigerians are more interested in outward appearances and frivolous things but overlook the real issue we have. Churches are fighting in Nigeria everyday over doctrinal differences, you wear trouser, you wear thongs, you be woman preacher, you don divorce blah blah blah and we get so obsessed with it that we overlook our own flaws. Let us start by being orderly and truthful abeg. Last time i went to naija, we were following our pastor and he was shunting the road trying to beat the queue and this is a man that finished preaching to us on how God hates sinners, what was he doing? and my dad told me that if you don't do it that way, you'll stay there forever, haba,

Another pastor follower cousin of mine has a habit of criticizing people and how they live in sin but this guy is an expert in pirating Nollywood movies, Cd's, softwares and I was like, you are a damn thief, repent and believe the gospel because a christian has no business pirating cd's or buying pirated softwares/Cd's etc and he said, naaaa, this one na normal thing now. What am I saying, Let God Judge!!!

well,the though process behind it is really important,as in how the christian lady arrived at the decisions,what reasons, if we r talking about just a normal chick/woman then nuifn wrong with it but being a christian woman you would have expected pure thoughts, not thoughts of sexual immorality,and its also being vain as well, however i must quickly add that its purely a moral issue nuifn else

I beg to differ, it would have been better if the women are the ones even explaining the immorality. Women wear thongs because they don't want panty lines. Plain and simple. It has nothing to do with sex. Thongs were not invented for sex but to give women an way to curb panty lines. Nowadays there are panties that don't show the lines at all.
I would recommend that to all women.

So I was having a conversation with Mr. Olabowale and this is what he told me.

He said: "In the Quran if you are about to die and they ask you if you are a muslims, and you are afraid of death, then yu can tell them that you are not a muslim"

I told him that was lying and asked "doesn't the Quran consider lying a sin?"

He said that lying is a sin, but his statement above is not lying.
I asked him to give me a definiton of lying, he kept beating around the bush with it, so I still didn't get an answer.

I told him that the untruth or whatever is not the truth or saying that you are not something that you are is lying. I told him even a 3 year old would tell you that when you don't tell the truth you are lying.

He said that because I am young and only speaking from my experiences in life that I lack understanding. But I want to know what is the misunderstanding in "if you don't tell the truth, you are lying"

But anyway. I thought I was going crazy or something. So I won't ask a religious person this, I will ask an atheist this: What is the definition of lying, and would the above statement by Mr. Olabowale be 'lying'?

I would appreciate an answer from an atheist since they are quite neutral about it. Thanks.

How?

Well I have been on a constant search for information. I am always reading something or praying or just looking for information. Basically just feeding and feeding and feeding on information. That is spiritual gluttony and it is wrong. I pray all the time and study the Bible, Catechism, and just buy books (even when I don't have the money = addiction) to read or watch movies on Christianity.
I also bother my priest a lot to the point where he doesn't even want to answer the phone because it's never something extensive

obviously we're all guilty of it, because i don't think we can have enough of God's love! we all long to have more and more of Him! . . . and that, to me, it's gluttony! spiritually!

Lol oh so guilty. Infact mr. olabowale sought to threaten me by saying that as a Christian if I die I will go to hell fire, and he's wondering which of my Gods will come save me. I told him all of them and that I will gladly go to hell fire for them. LOL.

there's goin to be a candle light procession (very lovely) today at Church of the Assumption Falomo, before the 6pm mass! you're goinna love it! just try and be there! last year i was mesmerised by the whole thing! and guess what, i came in this afternoon and i'll sure be there this evening for the feast!

Nigerians are not the only religious people. Why don't you lambast the others now? Tell us how their societies are suffering and all.

Start with the U.K. then the U.S., then move to Canada, and then Germany. Infact just move around them and you know show us how bad their people are suffering just as Nigeria is suffering too.
Show us how bus conductors are standing up just as in Naija too.
