Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Atheists Come Here Since They Do Not Believe In Religion ? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 11:37am On Oct 20, 2011
If we can all look at the title of this post with an open mind  wink I suspect the OP is hiding his hand and waiting for other players to fold. "Why Do Atheists Come Here Since They Do Not Believe In Religion ?". It would seem a benign question- It is actually a cancerous trap that if atheists try to answer the way the OP expects you to, then he shows you his hand. the same behavior atheists are accused of mostly  grin

Religion (IMHO) is not the sole reason for non-theists being on a Religion Section. Religion is just the (preconceived) umbrella under which other topics such as Origins of Man, of Angels and Spirits, of Superstitions, of the Universe, the Devil, Biology etcetera etcetera . All the listed topics can also be seen as social, philosophical and pseudo-scientific and scientific views not just religious. Naturally when a thread that challenges "common" perceptions, hypothesis, facts and theories sprouts on the religious section, you will find non-theists (pagans, atheists, muslims, traditionalists etc) there to Ridicule or expose it, Inquire or Propose other angles or simply just try to derail it for the fun of it. It is a public forum after-all. It is meant for all classes of intellectuals and degenerates alike.

As i implied earlier, without "Believers" non-theism will simply not be fashionable. It has always been this way before the coming of Christ. besides the Vatican, i doubt any society (even Muslim ones) are as isolationist and separatist as you are suggesting. but that is just my mustard-seed thoughts

Enigma:
I would say this is a rather simplistic approach. Interestingly it is also an approach that suggests for Christians a form of rigidity --- whereas rigidity is one of the things the atheists and anti-Christians criticise Christianity for. Yes, Christianity requires its followers to be gentle as doves ---- but it also requires its followers to be wise as serpents. Is it possible that occasionally exposing the atheists and other anti-Christians for what they are (largely ignorant and usually dishonest) is part of being wise as a serpent? Do you think a Christian cannot be led by the Spirit to challenge and expose the falsehoods of the liars?

cool
Expose Falsehood by all means, it leaves for clarity in understanding the truth. I just think IMHO that there is a Scriptural obligation to deliver the message of salvation (as a matter of urgency) than engage in arguments that (so far) has caused more doubt in potential Christians than FAITH. It has become a common trend that you cannot Win an argument (thus cause enlightenment) when both parties have no common ground or point of reference. Religious FAITH and Scientific LOGIC (or stupidity as argued by most) do not blend well.

@OP. I think it is becoming worrisome that Religious folks will dedicate so much energy discussing atheism and its qualities in the most purile manner. I thought the scriptural injunction and foremost on the minds of religious christian folks is spreading the message of Salvation, Love and Brotherhood. Letting their light so shine before men that they may see their good works and glorify God. Religious folks do not honor God by engaging is so much idle banter that it has now become a breakfast item for christians on NL. I think it has become a psychotic behavior that implies a much deeper underlying problem - ADDICTION to ATHEISM.

For Religious folks who feel the obligation to free Atheists from their debauched state,  please seek medical and psychological attention in earnest before it develops into a Cult problem

I'll advise all Nigerians who have hopes of seeing a better future for this once-great nation to bury their hopes and join in looting the nation blind.
Why, Nigerians do not give a damn hoot if you fight their wars for them, ask TAI Solarin, Ask Abiola, Ask Ken Saro-wiwa. If you wish to die for the freedom of any nation, Nigeria is not the one. 150 million mongrels scrapping for N200 to swing their votes to Jonathan. how dis-franchised can you get. Even if Nigerians got it so bad they start to eat their new-borns due to hunger, they would rather that than stand-up and fight for their rights. Forget Nigeria. it will Never happen, just as Palestine will never recognize Israel

@OP It is not strange for a foreigner in foreign lands to communicate with his relatives in his native dialect - English may be common across Europe and Asia. Africans still have a hold on mother-tongue. While the igbos are known for their successes in business, they are popularly known for their successes in shady business as well.

There is no Igbo Mafia - they are too proud to become a cohesive group - Every igbo man wants to be King of his own Kingdom. 80% of replies you have got on this thread are from Igbos  grin going by their userids hardly a non-biased opinion you will get here.  grin
Politics › Re: "Aregbesola Slapped Fashola" - Is It True? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 4:57pm On Oct 18, 2011
I have it on good authority that this incident actually occurred but the facts are not fully known to the internet public until yesterday after discussing with a PA (Personal Asslicker) to GEJ  grin on the matter. He offered some insight he had gathered from a presentation

At exactly 2:85 AM (Unholy hours of the twilight morning) in an undisclosed location on Bourdillion Road Ikoyi, elders of the ACN Committee on Step-down Now and Candidate-Imposition Process sat for a review of the composition of public positions in ACN states and the calculation of IGR (Instant Groove Revenue) from all ACN states. Having proposed a list of candidates for key positions from KAI Privates, Special Assistants all the way to Commissioners. Mr Rauf Aregbesola counter-proposed Fashola's list stating that it was composed of Non-indigent Yoruba with questionable claims to their Lagos origins. The 1-eyed Oracle was immediately agitated by the comment (as he adjusted his make-believe AWO-spectacles) but proceedings continued. Mr Rauf Aregbesola countered that the composition clearly was not Governance-friendly as most were highly-educated professionals with not political loyalties and hardly-visible sycophancy traits as demonstrated by ACN Governors and Political office holders  shocked At this juncture Barrister Ayinde Fashola lowered his gaze towards Mr Rauf Aregbesola and asked him to respect the title of Senior Advocate and immediately apologize in the spirit of Salami. RIP (Recovering Injustice of PDP). Barrister Kwam1Fashola continued with his presentation without another word to Mr Rauf Aregbesola. This obviously is the highest insult you can render on a Titled man from Osun State. Mr Rauf Aregbesola immediately got up from his seat on the High Table and leaped across the table landing face-flat on the grass lawn. As he lifted his head traumatized grass was visible from his denture as he spat left and right while ACN loyalists tried to help him to his feet. The 1-eyed Oracle was visibly agitated as he stood up to assist his friend Mr Rauf Aregbesola on his assault on Barrister PasumaFashola. As ACN imposition candidates moved towards the Lagos State Governor, The 1-eyed Oracle stood on his left and Mr Rauf Aregbesola stood on his right. for a brief second all was quiet. -- the chaos. The 1-eyed Oracle kicked Fashola in the nuts and knuckled him in the face causing him to stand upright- Mr Rauf Aregbesola spun anti-clockwise landing a dirty Osun-indigene Slap across Barrister KeyamoFashola's face.

This was a true-to-detail account of what happened. at this stage, my GEJ informant slipped into the shadows and proceeded to Park-View Estate to report the matter to Ex-Con Bodde Georgia. This was where I overheard them laughing over the matter and promptly offered my services to Nairaland  grin

OLAADEGBU:
Our Weekly Day Of Rest And Worship

"And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day" (Deuteronomy 5:15)

It is significant that God’s Ten Commandments are found twice in the Bible (Exodus 20:21–17 and Deuteronomy 5:6–21).  In fact, "Deuteronomy" means "The Second Law."  The two are worded identically, with a few exceptions.

The most significant of these changes is in connection with the reason given for obeying the fourth commandment, to "keep the sabbath day."  In Exodus, the reason given is: "For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day" (Exodus 20:11).  Here in "the second law," the reason given is that God saved Israel out of bondage in Egypt, and now was about to enter the promised land.  In other words, when the Israelites observed each Sabbath day in rest and worship, they were acknowledging God as both their Creator and their Redeemer.

Christians also, as they devote every seventh day as a day of rest and worship, should be remembering God for His finished creation ("the heavens and the earth were finished"—Genesis 2:1) and His finished redemption ("It is finished" was Christ’s victory cry on the cross—John 19:30).

The word "Sabbath" means "rest," of course—not "Saturday" or "Sunday" or even "seventh" (the word for "seventh" in Hebrew is similar, but distinctly different from that for "sabbath"wink.  Most Christians now believe it is appropriate to honour the Lord Jesus (who is both their Creator and Redeemer) to take their seventh day of rest and worship on the first day of each week, thereby recognising both His finished work of redemption and also His finished work of creation. HMM

For more . . . .
Well put wink

These days Truth is Stranger than Fiction, I'd honestly like to believe that this story is false, but i also recall the Acting-President Saga and how $2billion for "Poverty Alleviation" was released to all State Governors - the next day, the Governor's forum did a U-turn on the matter. It is difficult to make outright claims without hard-evidence but ultimately when such evidence eventually turns out a few years afterwards, everyone seems to be unaffected either emotionally, psychologically or otherwise. it seems that past crimes are forgotten and the criminal standing before them is forgiven and as far as that goes, he is a Saint and should be given a Chance. Nigerians are fond of Risking their Future on Chance, Promises and Looks "the Guy looks innocent" mentality

What you need is a Personal income tax clearance which can only be issued by your state's tax board. You can only deal with the FIRS if you work with the forces(police, army etc) or are a federal worker. There's a provision for unemployed folks but you've got to prove it cos there's usually a flat rate for those earning below a certain amount.
The guy was actually being lenient by asking for just 200k! You have to realize the number of laws you've broken to appreciate the amount you're bein charged. You failure to register for VAT alone and file monthly returns for the period would have racked up more than that amount not to speak of your non rendering of Áccount for the period. There's always a chance you might meet someone lenient but the law has u on this one and u're at their mercy. BTW, are you sure what u've got is a TIN no? They NEVER come with the CAC documents but have to be applied for separately at your DOMICILED tax office.
It is a TIN, I think in those times they came with CAC. I did a search at Sanusi Fafunwa FIRS and my company name came with a TIN.

@lagerwhenindoubt , do not mind the head honch…, if this is the first time, then you need not pay anything. So long as you have not started trading, you are entitled to a free tax clearance certificate. However you use to have a 6months grace period over which you can stay without trading (seems it has been increased to 18 months). But you have not traded in 3 years? Wao, there might be a problem there. You would have been safe if you had registered for your TIN number (tax identification number) and later write them that you wont commence business till further notice due to financial problems. If you had done this, then you will just need to write another letter letting them in on your intention to commence business; and a week later, you apply for the tax clearance. |Since its been 3 years, get an accountant to advice you. Make sure its one that deals with that particular tax office, as he/she will know the right people to meet. Or alternatively, try talking to a few of the lowly staff in the office, and you will be amazed at the information they will give you, even giving you the secrets of the so called head honch. i.e. I had almost a similar prob as yours; from one of the low staff I got a info that that same day was their boss’ only son’s birthday. Immediately I went back out got some gifts for the boy and gave the ‘oga’. He was amazed and excited ad what ever I told him, he just said no probs. So instead of ‘bribing’ a 100k, I gave him 5k for transport.
Remember the 3 tearly CAC fee, as non payment might lead to your company being wound up.
Thanks for the info. I have a TIN that came with the CAC documents. I think your suggestion will work. this guy does will not bug an inch unless i drop N200k. he advised that i drop the company name and register a new one instead, then i do not need to pay any thing.

Nice info. regrettably, I went to IFRS myself and while the secretary was encouraging; she explained to me the benefits of TAX clearance and that it was free for new businesses, the Head honch demanded N200k because I had not registered within 1 month of registering the company and this is 3 years after. I told him this was the first time i needed to use this company for business and it has no bank account whatsoever. No dice. he stuck by his demands so i left. sadly.

Where can one get a reliable TAX Consultant in Lagos.
Good job with the information - keep it coming

If all the rules are followed Nairaland will actually be fun. for instance
1: Accepting that no one person has knowledge of everything he has or has not experienced. There are too many ITKs (I too know) on NL e.g @Beaf grin
2: Agreeing to disagree on a subject matter but continuing to remain open to ideas and other view-points that raises questions about our own stand-points
3: Using surgical and subtle character assassination rather than gutter and Beer-palour insults on the President of the Federal Conglomerate of Nigeria e.g instead of odechukwu or megbeledufus or dauda the clueless retardeen. you would use nincompoop (very sophisticated)
4: Stop Tribalizing every topic when we run out of facts to back our weak arguments. admit you do not have facts to begin with and do not know how to argue without sentiments.
5: Stop making God/Allah Bible/Koran the pivot of every argument. even if the ideal is to have God rule your Life. does it mean he Must think for you? haba Nairalanders. both Religious have injunctions to man to seek knowledge and understanding to gain Wisdom. angry
