Health › Re: The Menstrual Circle And How It Take Place by Lagusta(m): 6:34pm On Jan 05, 2014
lomaxx: Lemme see if I can make it simpler:

•Women of reproductive age have a menstrual cycle. This cycle varies between 28 days to 31 days.

• No matter the length of your cycle, you will ovulate at mid-cycle. Hence, the woman with a 28-day cycle will ovulate on day 14.

•Ovulation means that the egg is now released and available. Hence, any availability of sperm cell will result in fertilization which could lead to pregnancy.

• So from Day 1 to Day 10 of the menstrual cycle is considered safe. If you have intercourse on Day 11, the sperm cell can live long enough for 72 hours (3days) and may meet an ovulated egg.

•Day 1 of your cycle is the first day after the end of your menstruation. So if your menses ends today, Day 1 starts tomorrow.

•This method of avoiding pregnancy is not 100% perfect. For double assurance, use a condom or the pill.

lomaxx: As a health professional, why would you insist on HAART for a patient diagnosed of HIV/AIDS with a CD4+ count of 200 cells per cubic millimeter of blood ?

What is HAART ?
HAART: highly active anti-retroviral therapy....

a combination of ARVs. in which an NRTI is constant.....

usually in combination of 2NRTI and 1PI or 2NRTI and 1NNRTI

some authorities say we start HAART when CD4 is below 300, some say 250... so stick with what your lecturer tells you!!!

lomaxx: Right on target. Ziehl-Neelsen is the stain....but in climes where things are done efficiently - a rapid Auramin-Rhodamine stain is done first, then probably a Ziehl-Neelsen.

One drum shot of Goskolo for my oga at the top grin grin
And I can categorically tell you that this is the first time I'm hearing that method of staining!!!! embarassed

lomaxx: Why would a Gram stain procedure be deemed unnecessary in the sputum sample of a patient recently diagnosed of pulmonary tuberculosis ?
A gram stain will not only be unnecessary but useless!!!

Gram staining can't stain MTb Cos of the mycolic acid present on the cell wall of the tuberculosis bacterium.....

You can only stain it with a ziel-nelseen stain(hope I got the Correct spelling embarassed)

lomaxx: A 25-year old lady presents to you with milky discharge from her left breast of a 4-month duration. Her menstrual cycle has recently become irregular and she complains of an intermittently dull headache and double vision. What is your most likely diagnosis?
hyperprolactinemia, most likely from a pituitary tumour......

Usually, dopamine agonists e.g bromocriptine will resolve the galactorrhea, but surgery will remove the tumour

And concerning peptic ulcer, is the pain general or located on one side, and if on one side, where exactly?? Upper or lower, right or left.....
Health › Re: PHARMACY- The Heart Of The Health Profession. by Lagusta(m): 3:54pm On Dec 29, 2013
That's true sir, but as a matter of urgency and discomfort, antispasmodic drugs or buscopan could be given to such patient on sight. Secnidazole is usually given too, tho I don't know the modus operandi yet.

Considering the availability of pharmacists and the otherwise for doctors( I dispensed for a woman last week at 6pm and she said she had been in the hospital since 9am). Now tell me how such patient would be able to cope when undergoing a traumatic and painful illness. The pharmacist is the only health professional u don't need an appointment to see, u don't pay to see him either. The most easily accessible healthcare professional they say, plus he's also trained and knows when to refer u to a physician. I've seen pharmacists do on-sight referral, its no biggie. There's enough space in the sky for us all to soar, God's blessings.
On point tho
