deols: Something very vital to medical practice is a second opinion. Even a fourth wont be bad. In many of those private hospitals, there is only one consultant who does the job of a GP, an obstetrician, surgeon, etc

Many of them should be turned to Primary health care centres because the facility they have are not enough to qualify them as hospitals.

In fact if there is anything I'd want the government to do right now, it is categorising all hospitals as they should be into primary, secondary and tertiary health institutions with the public very much aware of which to choose at what time and the strenghtening and equiping of existing PHC units.
God bless you ma!!!!

This is how it is in other countries, whereas in Nigeria here, all private centres are business centres where doctors milk their patients dry before sending them to the teaching hospitals.......

I pray I establish my own hospital, well equipped and up to standard......

Sanguine: Now does anyone wonder why the people in the medical field are called medical practitionershuh
That's simply because they are still practicising ...with human lives, sadly! Or how else could anyone explain this?!
The medical field is a practice my dear, it's not a theorem,

deols: Okay..

I hope they'll keep it up and extend it to other hospitals.

They need to also do something about the mushroom private hospitals. My relative almost died in one before being moved to UCH, Ibadan.
concerning private hospitals....

The NMA supposed to have a regular check on private hospitals, they must all be well equipped and up to standard!!! Not just paying annual dues....

a private hospital must have an oxygen-giving apparatus, a resuscitation kit and essential drugs..... also a standard theatre and side-lab for basic tests e.g pcv, RBS....

If these little things are in place, then we are heading somewhere!!!!

Sorry to say, but this has also happened to me, only that it was so bad none of the doctors, not even the consultant surgeon, had a torch, while power was withheld and no backup generator.....
I had to Bring out my phone, in the middle of the procedure!!!!

and for those hurling abuses at doctors, please it's not our fault, talk to the government to step up the health sector, or have they forgotten that we are still leading in maternal and child mortality!!!!!!

berem: I am highly disappointed at your comments. I can't believe you and some other Igbo bigots will be so tribalisitc about the appointment of Stella Oduah as minister. You should know on records that Igbos have lost more lives in the air crash than any other ethnic group during her tenure. The Dana air crash is a perfect example. What do you say about that? Not because you didn't lose a loved one in any of the crash makes you care less about those who did. Sentiments aside, Stella should be fired immediately and another competent fellow be appointed. I don't really give a damn where the new minister should come from. All we want is no more crashes and loss of lives.
May God bless you a million times for this post!!!

The op forgot to mention pre-ecclampsia, a life threatening condition characterized by severe hypertension and proteinuria, in a previously normotensive patient....

The Hallmark is ecclampsia, which adds generalized tonic-clonic seizures to the scenario!!!!

Drugs may suppress the blood pressure, but an immediate caesarean section is mandatory once the patient becomes ecclamptic......

Pretty scary..... embarassed

Thanks, I am using Junqueira's Basic Histology.
That's it, just try and familiarize yourself with the slides during your free time.....
Education › Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Lagusta(op): 9:32am On Oct 07, 2013
adeaugustus: Evening guys! Please I need your help on how you study histology, it's just too confusing for me. I loved the course initially, but I began to loose interest after taking a stipple chase test where I had to view almost 20 different slides within 5minutes, I couldn't differentiate between them, it got to a point where I was just writing "Simple Squamous".

I need tips, because I will be taking two courses on histology next semester when ASUU resumes. 3 and 2 unites each, I was reading them today and I couldn't get a hang of it.... Please help. Thanks
Hmmmm..........

Which textbook do you use?? Get basic histology, it's just like a colour Atlas.... gives you a perfect view!!!

Before exams, try and familiarize yourself with lots of slides.... does alot of good. If you still have problems get a senior to help.....

All the best!!!
