Zoharariel:
Fellow Nairalanders, pls let's share this information until it gets to President Buhari.

The Outrageous Cost of the Nigerian e-Passport.

President Mohammadu Buhari - May I use this medium to commend you for your anti-corruption crusade and your commitment to ensure the reparation of funds taken from the Nigerian coffers through questionable means.

I am also in total support of your rejection to joining the Coalition of Islamic States since you're aware that Nigeria is a secular state and so cannot support anything that offends the sensibilities of the Nigerian people.

My President, it seems officials of the Nigerian Government, through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has devised a very innovative way of ripping off Nigerians, not content with the daily looting of treasuries, bribes and all other forms of corruption perpetrated on the Nigerian people, home and abroad.

According to the statement signed by the former Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service - David Parradang; the 64-page frequent travellers passport would be obtained at 20,000Naira.

Passports for 18 to 60 year-olds would go for N15,000 while those for people below 18 years as well as 60 years and above would be procured at N8,750.

Also, the statement said new charge for change of data/lost passport would cost N20,000.

Similarly, change of names due to marriage, divorce and death of spouse would be effected at N8,750 while change of data on request would attract N30,000 as processing fees.

Before the introduction of the 64-page frequent travellers passport, the processing fee for the regular 32-page passport has always been 20,000Naira and above depending on the passport office location.

I was at the ikeja passport office lastweek and I met an immigration officer who told me that the 32-page regular passport goes for 30,000Naira while the 64-page passport, although unavailable, goes for 37,000Naira.
Of course, knowing our government officials, they will embezzle the vast proceeds from their ripoffs, and only an infinitesimal amount of it will end up in the government coffers.

We are aware that these corrupt public officials are already entrenched in the pool of bribery and extortion from the previous government, so, Mr. President, what we ask is very simple.

1.) We want the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (CGI) who is known (including his predecessors) to be collecting returns from all the Comptrollers of the Passport offices across the federation, including the Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration (DCG) & all the Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI) - to be fired & replaced with young & competent immigration officers, preferably an ASI 1 (Assistant Superintendent of Immigration) who has never seen 1Million Naira in his entire life.

2.) We want all the Comptrollers heading each of the Passport offices across the federation to be fired & replaced with young & competent officers, preferably an ASI 2 (Assistant Superintendent of Immigration) who has never seen 1Million Naira in his entire life.

3.) We want the official amount of the Nigerian e-passport to be strictly enforced and the passport collection date MUST not exceed 2 days, otherwise the Comptroller of such Passport Office should be dismissed without pension or gratuity & replaced with a junior officer.

Mr. President, remember that the vast majority of Nigerians who queued up in the blazing hot sun to vote you into office based on your time-tested integrity & reputation are at the receiving ends of this immigration rip-offs, bribery & extortion, and if this immigration fraudulent billing practices go unchecked, it is your legacy, integrity & reputation that will be on the line when you leave.

After the Immigration leadership is overhauled & sorted out, then Prisons, Road Safety and the Police should be next.

This is a good letter, but while we await the government's response, it is the ignorance of many and our lack of patience that gets us exploited as nigerians. many of us spend hours online, yet, can not take d pains of applying online, generate the printout and get to the bank to pay yourself. generate the final printout and take to any nis office. print the guarantor's form which is available online and get someone to fill the form and get to any high court to stamp it for only 500 naira only.this was exactly what i did and i spent only 16000 naira for 32 pages last year in akure nis office. passport processing should not take more than two days anywhere in nigeria. when they saw that i had already done the above, they grudginly collected my documents. and processed. it. the nis officers themselves are the one playing touts!

Didn't you see Yardua there or you just don't want to read that part.
Don't let us be sentimental. Jonathan became a fully elected president and he decided to sustain it without being reasonable. the late president was right to have approved that for their protection after laying down arms to embrace amnesty.it is not easy for someone who had committed atrocities as a war/cult mafia to live without being afraid of his life.the police protection was an assurance to them that they have truly been forgiven. besides, any one can apply to the IG for police security detail, especially when they became like govt children, being paid salaries without working. Jonathan should have stopped it when they gradually turned from remorseful militants to billionaire war mongers. they was even a time tompolo threatened jonathan not to come to delta state or else! you can imagine that.
Science/TechnologyRe: Facts: Lets Talk About Global Warming/climate Change. by lanreni: 6:16pm On Feb 24, 2016
we are getting to the peak of a solar maximum, strenghtened by climate change as a result of mainly anthropogenic causes. in addition, solar activity is increasing gradually depleting the magnetosphere. the irony of a round planet is that as floods will intensify in some parts, droughts will be intense in some. the temperature increase is increasing the water holding capacity of the atmosphere. by the time the rain start descending this year, especially for us in the monsoon region, its going to be a ruthlessly killing blessing!

PhD in FUTA:
Generally, same thing that applies to the masters programme applies to the third cycle programme. it is now compulsory for phd students to have at least two supervisors, which may come from different departments depending on the scope of your work. the minimum time is generally 42 months..well, i have seen someone who used 10years! so i can't sit here and tell you the maximum. lol! it all depends on the field, your supervisors and the willingness of the department to give it to you. in most departments, it is not an advantage wether you are an alumni or not. the main game is about who they want to have it ahead of someone else they favour. in this regard, you must win the hearts of senior lecturers in your field, the hod, dean of school and dean of pgscul. at phd level, some research areas are just dead with nothing to offer you in futa in some departments. so take time to fact find about potential supervisors indirectly before you meet them directly.

Postgraduate Hostel:
if you are looking for accommodation, i don't think the best option is d pg hostel. a bedspace goes for 75k (2 persons per room) and single room goes for 150k per annum. the era of squatters and illegal occupants are over now.the hostel administration has been overhauled. d only advantage there is light and proximity to your department in most cases, but when you want to consider the unpredictability of your programme, it means you may be spending at least 225k for 3yrs. i said atleast since the rent can be increased without consultation. they are good accomodation in north gate and roadblock areas. ibule and ilara has d advantage of good power supply..

TSA Account and the Travails of the PG School.
Do you know that matriculation gown 10k, notification of result 5k and largely the oral examination 70k plus, are all illegal fees?
It all goes straight to the private pocket of the school. Do you know that the remaining balance after your oral examination, ie the oral examination fee of 70k should be refunded to you (about 30-40k) depending on what it cost to finance your external supervisor's coming?.
they just scraped the notification fee now.
i learnt transcript application is now 20k whether within Nigeria or overseas. the personal copy is still 5k.
the university of ibadan charges 500 (five hundred naira) for convocation gown
...don't mind me....just spewing it as it comes to mind.

my thesis reg took about 3 months... den had to pay extra 20k for oral examination makin 90k aas a againts d former 35k or so
friend, unfortunately thats FUTA for you. that increment from 35k to 70k should have been crushed if there had existed some form of informal unionism (common voice) of pg students. they send txt messages for matriculation, but they didn't deliberately announce the increment in order to catch students unawares. d only place they placed the notice of the increment with deadline was on the door of the bursars office at d pgscul. before we could rally students around to see the vc, it was already too late in the day. they capitalized on the fact that pg students are working and everyone claiming busyness, therefore speaking with one voice will be difficult.a close source told us that when the increment was being discussed at the senate, a prominent member said, "don't mind them.they will complain but they will still pay the new fees"
EducationRe: Futa Postgraduate Students: Lets Meet Here by lanreni(op): 4:45pm On Feb 24, 2016
For those coming to FUTA for masters programme, the following tips will be helpful.
1. get ready to study hard. if you are working, this will definitely be difficult, but you don't want a result at the end of the day that won't be worth it
2. if you are very busy with work, make sure you make the full time efiko students your best friend.the reason is obvious.
3. you all need to come together in ur department and faculty/school to form an informal union of some sort. this is important when issues of fees increment/ extortion, thesis registration issues, etc occur.
4. understand your lecturers, the department and the system generally.
5. make the postgraduate coordinatorof your dept ur friend. make him/her work more efficently if they are dull in their responsibilities.
6. maximize the new dean Prof Ajewole. if you are not attended to efficiently, just enter the dean's office and see d secretary.on several occassions on several issues, most staff members of the pg school show incompetency. never take their word as final. see the oga at the top. he is approachable.
7. though the system is improving compared to what it was 3-4yrs ago. thanks to d new dean, its still a far cry from effectiveness. make sure you follow up on any form you submit; from thesis to transcript application. for result issue, go straight to exams and records office in pgscul.
8. finally, you need to meet with those who are students on ground to know the supervisors and options to go for, even before you apply. some finish 3yrs and some 5-7yrs in the same dept. so shine ur eyes.
be wise. peace!

I disagree. Jonathan is an idol worshiper serving the god of Ogogoro. You think going to church is thesame as being a christian? Who says they couldn't have found some fettish things there. Is it everything your eye see your mouth say? Nigerians sef. You want them to say villa is smelling of ogogoro or one black pot was found in the compound?
It is the workers that are complaining. Its not affecting the economy in any way.
I also feel most workers in that place will be asked to go, while they are changing the security details of the place. Bottom line:
IT IS NOT AN ISSUE!

I perceive you a pst Chris denominated. No denomination has authority to speak and teach on ALL issues of the kingdom. Else, errors will flow. Find out which denomination has the highest grace in any matter relating to your life. Thats where you go for sound doctrine on that matter. Peter was in a trance, not asleep. The only time God feeds you is when you listen and study His word. Do you dream of it? A big NO! It is with your consciousness you eat divine things. Don't let the devil feed you. Resist it and seek help. God will rather provide money for you physically to buy a sumptuous meal! cheesy
PoliticsRe: We Have No Money To Import Fuel — Marketers by lanreni: 6:43am On May 24, 2015
otokx:
Truth is bitter, remove the subsidy and regulate the price after agreeing on the exchange rate to use.
So you think its that simple? Remove subsidy now and get ready to buy fuel at 1,000per litre. The cabals will only turn their insatiable appetite to defenseless Nigerians. The ONLY way is to run refineries in Nigeria, by Nigerians. Let's see the explanation anyone can give for the cost of production at your backyard. Why do you think Dangote made an agreement with Clueless jonah to sell his own when it begins production at foreign market price, it becomes cheap when you produce locally. Thats less profit! The first assgnt of GMB is not to remove it, but settle these gluttons temporarily, get our refineries working and selling cheaper. Stop subsidy. Establish a framework of regulation and hands-off. We are about to have a president finally with balls to stand against cabals to see it through in this way, bringing a lasting solution. The cabals know this. That's why there are trying to get everything they can get now...desperate drowning cabals cling on anything. Even as it is now, you won' t believe how cheap fuel should be. No thanks to corruption.
