Now I get you. My opinion is that Fashola has begun to establish some form of sanity and lawfulness. Lagos had become a dump for the rest of Nigeria and for indigenes, we found this very unacceptable. How many people will be proud of their state being known worldwide as dirty and chaotic? Fashola deserves credit for taking on issues that many thought were impossible. Better yet, being someone who grew up in Lagos before the mass exodus that left it a mess, he could appreciate back during Gowon's days when we could take blankets to the water front at Marina, spread them out, and have picnics into late hours of the night while watching the beautiful lights of ships sailing into the habour. We never had to worry about crime or people excreting along the shore of the Marina.

The one thing that I still hold against Murtala Muhammed was how he imported almajiris in trailers from the North and dumped them at Oyingbo. They soon migrated all over Lagos and Marina, excreting anywhere that they could. Trust me when I say Lagos was like Abuja then, and you could feel comfortable picking up candy that you dropped on the street, wiping it off and eating it. Remember that the Queen of England visited Lagos back then during Gowon's leadership. Try to find pictures of that event. Tinubu square used to have fountains running especially during the weekends. Kids used to play in these fountains, and we usually had Carnival caravans coming from all over the world to visit Lagos. I can remember things like a British Christian Ship named MVP Logos, that came to Lagos. It was open to the public, and people went there to tour and buy Christian books.

Lagos also had many attractions and forms of recreation including parks, Various amusement rides and shows, we had places with bumper cars and a lot more. Power was constant and noone had to worry about it. Takwa Bay was prettier than Florida then and visiting there was like a trip to Hawaii complete with pristine blue clear glassy waters and rental huts with well stocked bars. This is the Lagos that I grew up in. Murtala Muhammed changed it into the dirty place that we recently knew it as. It was a strong tourist attraction and many came from all over the world to visit it.

How should people like me feel looking at how Lagos has degressed? I bet Fashola feels the same way. Visit Abuja and you'd feel like you are in Miami even without the ocean next to it. Lagosians who grew up and knew Lagos from what it was owe it to their future generations to bring it back to it's times of prominence. We have been badly diluted with people who have no clue of how to live in civilization. With Surulere and Apapa basically gone to the docks, we are left with the Lekki-Ajah and Badagry areas to bring back the livestyles that was once Lagos. What do today's kids have for recreation apart from getting drunk and prostitution? Lagos used to be a place full og dignified people. I support Fashola 100% for attempting to bring back the rightful progressive nature of Lagos state.

The bridge that you refer to as fourth mainland bridge is infact an excellent idea, and should have been done like 10 years ago. Have you seen the Lekki Masterplan? This bridge infact connects the Lekki-Ajah corridor to the Ikorodu-Sagamu axis. My only problem with it is the termination point. Even though it branches into Ikorodu, it should continue further and connect to the Ikorodu-Sagamu expressway at the Itoikin road junction. Trust me on this, my background is in Planning/design with lots of experience in the United States.

Even though Lagos State claims overpasses and ramps are expensive to build, I will however advice that they should be done regardless. Using roundabouts as substitutes will be regretted in the future. If the roundabouts are being considered as interim options, then the government should make sure that they acquire the properties that will be needed for the overpasses and ramps in the near future. This near future may come much sooner than expected. The cost of the real estate at that point will be ridiculous.

As stated in the original post, this is merely an idea. The number of states was not a consideration but a random attention getting number. I can see some erratic responses from people who are incapable of conceptual thinking. An idea is a seed. Contributions may help carve it into a beautiful tree.

I am surprised that you guys have not picked up what is really going on here and the method that the Banks were using to defraud their investors. It is all written out here in black and white, but very few can figure it out.

Many of the people accused have made claims that the amounts in the Banks books are wrong. They are cooked up by the Banks. They cook up these outstanding balances to make it look like they are earning huge profits. This is what they advertise to promote their stocks. Wow!! very sophisticated criminals. I'm really not out to ruffle feathers or create issues. Rather this is about promoting dialogue. Our current constitution is somewhat lacking. We owe it to ourselves to seek resolutions to the myriads of issues plaguing us. To better our constitution, we need to test it. It has to withstand scrutiny. Our legislators still find it difficult to pass a freedom of information act which enables every Nigerian taxpayer a right to know how his tax funds are being spent.

A large percentage of Nigerians from various webpolls indicate that they are unimpressed with Maurice Iwu leading INEC. Yet our leaders fail to yield to us. Causing constitutional scrutiny, and shaking the foundations that they rest comfortably on could be our last resort and a form of protest in regards to our welfare. Making it difficult to continue with the status quo may spur corrective action.

This subject is to raise awareness and promote dialogue. The other alternative such as what MEND has embarked on creates further suffering of the poor. It may make more of an impact to begin to tackle issues cerebrally, which will notify our politicians of an aware constituent. With knowledge comes awareness, and with an educated population, dictators feel the threat and have no choice but to concede.

An idea just occurred to me, and I need the opinions of Nigerian Constitutional Lawyers, as well as the general public. After examining the constitution, I have not found it anywhere stated that the same person cannot run for Governorship of several states.

Since Nigerians have always talked about a revolution; Here is one for you, Many of you have clearly stated being happy with Governor Fashola and non-Lagosians have wished he could be their Governor. Why not? And what stops this from happening? This would also be a test of the strength of Nigerian constitution. Indigenes of various states should organize their people, and place Governor Fashola on their state ballot.

I am laughing very hard while typing this. But the question is why not? If we all believe that elections are being rigged heavily in Nigeria, we should test our constitution and laws. Putting fashola on various Gubernatorial ballots of various states should send a message. He can become administrator of all the states without running for presidency. Do you like this idea? There's also room for improvement as regards ATM devices.the following ATM threats can be addressed if we research well:

1. Internet protocol worms, and other malicious code, penetrating the defenses of the ATM itself or the IP network it is connected to.
2. Disruption of the IP network and denial of service.
3. Passive collection of transaction data for malicious purposes.This is possible because apart from the pin code,the rest of the data travel unencrypted-the most threatening headache in Nigeria.

So far ATM producers have responded to these threats by installing personal firewalls on the ATM devices themselves. This solution somewhat protected the operating system and applications running on the computer inside the ATM from some of the threats, but it does not solve all the problems and has its own inherent problems.

Threat 3 is not at all solved by the installation of personal firewall on the ATM machines because the traffic still goes out unencrypted and is still open to eavesdropping.

Threat 2 is also not properly addressed by a personal firewall, because such software is not meant to protect against Dos attacks and disruption of the IP networks.

The only threat, therefore, that is partially addressed by a personal (software) firewall is 1. However the inherent problem is that the firewall is actually running on the very device it is trying to protect. Because they run on the same computer they are trying to protect, personal firewalls are vulnerable to being infected, modified, or disabled by computer viruses, Trojan horses, or network worms which are present in other applications on the same computer. In addition, they are vulnerable to being manually disabled by faults or malicious actions on the device itself.

Proposed solotions:

While having a personal firewall on an IP-ATM might be better than not having at all, physical separation of the device being protected and the device providing the detection is recognized as the most secure way to provide such protection.

a.Routers provide network connectivity for multiple ATMs in one location, IP Cameras, DVRs and other IP-based equipment.

b.Firewalls can be configured to block all inbound traffic with the exception of management and maintenance connections from defined sources. This protects the  machines against Protocol worms, or other malicious code, penetrating and affecting the ATM itself or the IP it is connected to.

c. Multiple Network Interfaces can be used to provide physical separation of devices in trust zones (e.g. separating IP-ATMs from IP-Cameras/IP-DVRs and other IP equipment).Firewalls can be set to provide for traffic segmentation and permit/deny communication between these trust zones.

d. The IDS/IPS can be configured to provide protection against inbound threats even over open management access ports. They can also monitor outbound connections to detect malicious outbound activity, as well as block it, in the event of device compromise. This actively protects against disruption of the IP network and denial of service.

e. The VPN (virtual private Networking) is used to encrypt all traffic to and from the network and to allow both management and ATM transaction protocols to be passed over networks without the danger of eavesdropping and passive collection of transaction data.

It is obvious that you are oblivious to the ATM protocol. Were you even aware that Asynchronous Transfer Mode is a protocol that was created back in the 80s for multiple source transport such as Video, Voice and text together at once? It barely relies on IP and only uses the first layer which negates any values derived from stuff such as firewalls etc, if I am correct. I vaguely remember when it was first hacked at Summercon by some Argentine guys who were there.

Just so you know, ATM existed before it was ever used for money machines for which it is popularly known for. It is a packet switched network but differs very much from the TCP-IP and should not be mistaken as running off this. If I can remember correctly, it has to first establish a point to point termination before it even begins to relay data. You should also know that it does indeed encode data using on the fly cryptology. Since it was hacked in Atlanta's Summercon, it has improved much and uses stronger cypher encoding.

ATM can hardly be hacked via transmission, but teller machines are hacked by the insertion of card readers into the slots that you put your cards into. These card readers therefore basically clone the information off your card which is subsequently reprogrammed unto any magnetic strip card. However, this security flaw has been addressed by the new cards with chips built in on them. These operate on a pgp type scheme and cannot be cloned. You should do a little more homework after brain storming without assuming that things run based on some technology that you have recently learned.

Hacking is not for the faint-hearted and neither is it a spectator sport. A true hacker seeks knowledge to gain knowledge and bragging rights. Phreakers, slackers and lamers steal knowledge from hackers for financial gain. Warez is an equalizer to keep the benefits of knowledge back in the hands of the creators.

However, there are new proven technologies coming up that allows you for example to use 2 parts of flyash+ I part of regular portland cement to replace your cement needs. In the case of basalts and kimberlite, light weight concrete is also achieving the strengths and stress tests of granite with additives added.

My point here is that there are various new emerging technologies that are now beginning to put question marks on existing standards. Properly testing aggregates, which includes stuff like cubicity, soundness, and resistance to alkalines help to define the capability of it's concrete mixture. I had come across it recently and thought you may find it very informative. They have a pricing structure in place as well and will supply you with the Gas that you need. For your info, There is a gas loop around Lagos that was recently completed and continues to neighbouring West African countries such as Rep. Du Benin, Togo and Ghana. It is known as the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP). It has been commissioned already and has been active for about a year now. You may want to Google it for more information.

You know I am always precise with my words. Go back and read what I initially wrote. It included a factor of X10, and still 2/3 cheaper. This is a new area in Nigeria that is only now being developed. There are efficient supply mechanisms in place already and there are competing players involved. Oando through it's subsidiary Gaslink and Total are already big players in this field.

Since we are talking about industries, then how could you compare this with kitchen propane? Industrial gas use will be considered large consumption and right now NNPC is looking at creating a 3 tier sales point level, with PHCN being the lowest rate offered.

Gas will always be a cheaper alternative in Nigeria to imported diesel and will in-fact help our economy by saving our foreign exchange flight out of Nigeria. Fuel import drains us of forex significantly, and the government should actually create special incentives for Industries that will consume gas, while leaving the transport (pipelines) to private investors but with price caps on them.

You've heard the saying that goes like " My people suffer and die for their lack of knowledge". This applies in this case as well. Looking at even the street price of propane which is currently at about N2000-N2200 for 12 Kg, would you believe that it is still better than using petrol to fuel your lil generators? Do the math and see. The skepticism of the unknown and the obvious profit that diesel importers make is the reason for the discouraging of information in this regards.

For your information, NNPC is currently working on coming up with a pricing scheme and are involving stake holders in this issue. I have looked at several presentations from NNPC and I think there was one done by Soludo as well to resolve this pricing issue. But how could it not be better if it's a local product that is very cheap, more earth friendly with possible Green credits available to the users from developed nations. It also reduces smog, creates a new source of revenue for the government, it is not regulated by a cartel such as Opec, and it is in great demand by developed Nations.

We are all aware of the safety issues concerning Gas, but do you know that Nigeria is more of a Gas producer that an Oil producer? Do you know that we have 6 trains and I think about 4 more being developed? To tell you frankly, Gas is Nigeria's future and not Oil. Russia already recognizes this and knows Nigeria is capable of undermining it's control and monopoly in Europe which it sees as a threat to it's domineering power plays. Russia will gladly develop all the gas fields in Nigeria to be able to manipulate prices and will probably give it to Nigerians to use for free.

Have you noticed that Fashola has decided to follow Brazil's footstep  and is now embarking on purchasing more natural gas Buses for transportation rather than D\iesel powered ones. I guess you now have enough information to know where to invest your funds. But all the numbers and information work in support of the Gas alternative.

P.S. Also note that maintenance on a Gas powered generator is also much cheaper than the diesel counterpart which is much dirtier. Oil change spans are hence longer, and with the adulterated diesel being imported to Nigeria, you would have no need to be replacing rubber hoses that harden and break from the bad diesel.

You are wrong in assuming that a Diesel generator is cheaper than a gas generator. This is woefully wrong. In terms of cost of gas v/s cost of diesel, in Nigeria Gas is much cheaper. I did an analysis of a Caterpillar Generator and found out that it is really blatantly stupid that we use diesel instead of gas for even our personal generators in Naija.

At the price that our Government sells gas to PHCN, I calculated that it comes to less than N-0.10 per KVA/Hr. Using the same generator running diesel will cost N15.44 per KVA/Hr. Now even if the government made the gas available for 10 times what they sell to NEPA it will still be 2/3 cheaper than running it on diesel.

Remember that the USA imports gas which has a significant cost factor involved in liquifying it for shipment, and then regasifying it at arrival. Then we have the duty tariffs and pipeline fees involved as well. This is why gas is much more expensive in the U,S. You could go to Caterpillars website and do the calculations yourself by choosing a particular model and comparing the fuel usage between gas and diesel. The PHCN factor that I used is N16.64 per MCF.

The best part of using gas is also the fact that it burns much cleaner than diesel, and has a much reduced particulate emission issue. It is much more earth friendlier because the gas being burnt used to be flared in Nigeria until the government forced the processing of associated gases from oil wells. Hope this helps.

There is a lot to a dredger and should not be simplified as you did. "A Dredge is an apparatus for scooping or sucking up mud, sand, rocks, aggregate and other materials, as in deepening or clearing channels, habours, etc." The specs are very important ranging from the type, i.e suction/cutter or excavating

I had done some extensive research into dredges last year for a company and have to inform you that it is not a simple task. Oyimbo will just offload what he can't sell to you if he knows you lack the knowledge necessary in selection. There are also various low interest (offshore) financing options available that would help you to get a better product and hence increase your productivity.

It is also very important that in negotiating that you are aware that the dredge alone will not do the job. You will also need the piping and fittings to be able to pump out sand to the distance required. This is not a negligible cost either. However, I think we are trying to reinvent the wheel here. GPS (Global positioning System) using satelitte and coordinates, in conjunction with Google, utilising GSM technology, are already able to achieve this goal and more. In my next post, I will give you details.

Not necessarily Edentis. There is a difference between vehicle tracking and Traffic tracking. GPS is static and unidirectional as a part of tracking through triangulation, while gprs on GSM networks does the communication part. We are aware of these technologies being used as cliches. However, traffic stress monitoring can either be done with cameras connected to control rooms which then updates traffic advisory over VHF/UHF/AM.

In the case of Nigeria, to reduce these obvious expense, we are therefore looking for other possble solutions. This is the reason for the discussion. I am not aware of a system like this being developed from the direction that we are taking anywhere in the world. Keep in mind that the discussed proposal will rely on capacity monitoring of communication tower stress and relay patterns.
