I am not here to argue to with both of you - Laudate and Frathemathy, i am only here to learn as much as i can about the mental make up of your people. I dont even know the road leading to urhoboland sef.
For your information, I am not even Urhobo even though I have a lot of Urhobo friends. wink But no one likes needless provocation, and people cannot be expected to turn the other cheek, each time they are insulted. You would be much better off learning or studying the mental make up of the IPOB crew on NL, and offering them advice on how to get along with others... thanks. sad

fratermathy:
Exactly! Thank you for your apt observation. I create threads directed mainly at minorities and Urhobos on Nairaland. But these IPOB youths somehow manage to get in and derail it. Yet they say I am the issue. How many times have I derailed an Igbo thread on Nairaland?

It's sad that they would call me anti-Igbo when they are the ones going around creating enemies across the nation. So what should I do when they insult me and my people because we rejected their cause? I should sit and allow the insults continue? I can't keep doing that everytime because some of the things they say need to be addressed heads on.

But what exactly have I done that Ikology, Ikechu48, Freemancipation, and their lots have not done ten times over to Yoruba, Hausa, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Igbo, Ibibio, et al.? They serve the dish yet call out others for serving it back at them? SUCH HYPOCRISY!
Guy, calm down!! cheesy I see your point, but please try and take it easy. Sometimes, there is no need to respond to everyone who aggravates you. The double standards here are so glaring, but everyone needs to pick their battles carefully.Don't let them get under your skin. You are too smart for that. Peace. wink

You know, ever since Frathermatty started his anti-Igbo thing, i took a back seat to observe for myself. My best friend as a kid was an Urhobo boy - Andy Ojakpa or so, we were so close that when either of us is not at home, our parents knew where to look first. The guy is now based in the US, but his half brothers and sister are still around, and they are very tight friends with my younger ones.

Nairaland and Frathermatty only made me realize one thing probably - The Urhobo who grew up in Lagos is different from the Urhobo which grew up in Urhoboland.

The only reason i am still on the fence with Urhobo people is that i have never lived with them in Urhoboland and so cant make an informed opinion other than what i have gleaned on Nairaland. In the end, they are not a group that is vital to Biafra's viability.
Guy, I have read a lot of Fratermathy's posts, but I am afraid I do not share your views. sad To label him as anti-Igbo is a sweeping generalisation, that is inaccurate. From the little I can see, it appears Fratermathy starts each of his threads with good intentions. undecided But each time, your IPOB crew end up raining on his parade, by provoking him and his ethnic group. I mean, what was the need to include Urhobo in the proposed map of Biafra? shocked Each time, this issue comes up you will find a lot of Urhobo people (not just Fratermathy), objecting to this inclusion.

Instead of your IPOB groups to acknowledge their mistakes, amend the map or correct the error, they respond to his objections with vile insults about his tribe, and other demeaning comments. Why? huh Do a content analysis here, and study the trend. Since no one has a monopoly on gutter language and insults, he too responds to them in the same vein. Before you know it, a war of words ensues. Na who be mumu? angry

Politics › Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by laudate:
Guys, someone asked why the thread on the Oodua Constitution draft was deleted. I sighed. wink I could feel the angst and disappointment in everyone's posts, when they couldn't find the thread.

Something similar happened to this same thread too, that made respondents lose interest in continuing the stimulating discussions that took place daily here.

Initially, knowledge flowed like water, right here. cheesy Historical, cultural and political ties were shared and discussed. Ideas on how to move the Southwest region forward, were debated with passion. The camaraderie was infectious. Both Yorubas and non-Yorubas like myself, enjoyed ourselves immensely. cool In less than 21 days, the thread grew to over 250 pages plus. Even the DAWN programmes were discussed and analysed. This thread became a treasure trove.

That was when we started noticing strange things happening. undecided

The Yoruba Commonwealth thread was first moved to the Culture section. After several objections, it was moved back to the Politics section, with a caveat that the name should be changed.

Later people started getting banned almost on a daily basis, under the flimsiest excuses you could think of. angry Posts started disappearing.

That was when a lot of people started getting disenchanted with the thread. Calls were made to the mods to address certain issues, which they never did. undecided

Slowly but surely, interest started waning, the discussions lost steam, and the main respondents left NL. cry It was such a sad ending, to a most promising journey.

I don't know why the mods get rattled by the success of such threads. Again, history appears to be repeating itself. The new thread titled Draft of Oodua Region Constitution was not injurious or harmful to anybody. Just like the Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics thread, did not have any negative impact on anyone. But the mods in their wisdom, did their worst then. And they are still doing it now, without giving any explanations or any reasons to anyone, for their action. But my consolation is that the things which are hidden in secret, are open to the eyes of God. sad

The problem is not the leaders, it's the people that have to change their orientation and reasoning about life. When parents pass their backward belief to their kids, u think u'll expect any changes?. The youths should consult with their brothers abroad to give them ideas on how to move their state forward. Kogi state is so blessed but this issue of running to Abuja to collect oil money is not helping anyone
The problem is both the leaders, and the people. angry Kogi has many well seasoned technocrats, and fully qualified professionals, at home and abroad. But the problem is that those who can take the state out of its backwardness, hardly ever come out to contest. And the few times, 1 or 2 of them tried to contest in the past nobody voted for them, or they were schemed out by the corrupt political machinery, in the state. sad

Look at Lagos for example. Tinubu, is the strongman of Lagos state politics. wink He's the power behind the throne, who installed Fashola and Ambode as governors, after his tenure. He picked people who could perform and who executed the right programmes for the state! shocked Why can't Kogi take a leaf from Lagos, and try to vote in performers, instead of loudmouthed, visionless clowns?

how many times have you seen a Yoruba or Hausa Fulani throwing his or her people under the car? take the Arewa youth declaration for example. do you see how all of them are not outrightly against the youths? some of them are even in support of the youths but if it's the iPob, you all will start forming political correctness, openly and outrightly castigating the ipob to please your fake one Nigerianist people. Let me tell you one secret, you can be against the ipob all you want but as long as you are Igbo, they will treat you just as they would treat an iPob regardless of whether you are against the struggle or not. when push comes to shove, they will favour and side their own people and cast you out.
Best you should do is to keep your opinions to yourself.
Ok, but kindly note that one of the things that worked against the old Biafra from within, was the same lack of tolerance for dissenting opinions. sad It didn't matter if those views were right, or wrong. Many people were tagged as 'saboteurs' for no reason & jailed, or even executed. The same Northerners & Yorubas you see, often disagree among themselves, but they hold internal consultations far & wide among their people & try to persuade everyone, to embark on a particular course of action, jointly. There is mutual respect, even when they disagree with each other. All views are taken on board, debated and analysed, before being accepted. undecided

See Fayose & FFK for instance. Their views do not represent the views of the larger majority within their own major ethnic group, but they are being ignored by the larger key players in their tribe like Tinubu & co., because they recognise everyone is free to hold his own opinion. The day the chips are down they will be forced to bear the consequences, on their own. sad

Is IPOB like that? huh No, they threaten others and insult them, simply because they hold a divergent view. shocked They fly their propaganda kite, and believe everyone should fall in line behind it. Anyone who disagrees with them, is seen as an enemy. Is that the way to win over adherents to a cause? shocked Anyway, I respect your views, even if I don't agree with them. Peace. wink

Many Nigerian Yorubas are ignorant of the strength of our culture. Four years ago, I visited Bahia in Brazil. If all men leave their wives that cheats and all women leaves the men that cheats what kind of society are we going to have? These mentality of moving out because he's a jerk is just so wrong and for ur information, let me tell you all men are jerks, just pick the jerk you can cope with. Is leaving or walking out of the marriage the test to show you are Strong?? Any honour in that huh No glory. No joy. I cannot expect everyone to be normal for sure , I expect the sane ones whose brain has not been positioned at leaving to live a miserable single mom life that gives them the opportunity to flirt around and raise another product like them in their daughter. You people talk as hypocrites, when she cheats, you ask him to forgive and accept her back but when it's d reverse you ask her to move out, and the next guy cheats, and she moves out and d next next until she ends up living a totally miserable life. I can categorically tell you that single mom are capable of raising lesbian/gay children. Cheating (both sex) is wrong but it happens and nothing justifies it been right, but d test of marriage is holding hands in disagreement, holding on when you can let go, staying together when the door is open for you to walk away.
Marriage is for people who will never let go, people ready to let go and move on because what they have is worth holding on to when storms come. Your comment is your view. I clearly understand. It's all about what you want to do with your life. Either you are ready to walk away and stay and fix it. But I think you should know it's fun for guys ( its a shame on women - Tonto and single mothers gang of unmarriable, flirt and crownless cowards ) What's happening to our women. Our mothers were and are better ! My view is personal. And I respect your view too. Muito obrigada !
Oga, people are talking about men and women who cheat openly, repeatedly and consistently, on their partners! shocked At that point, it is no longer a mistake, but a habit! I know a lady whose husband infected her with AIDS! shocked When people were warning her initially, about her husbands waywardness she refused to listen, claiming that they wanted to break her home! After he infected her, what was the result? She is now left on her own to manage the disease. sad

In some cases, it is the men that actually abandon their wives and homes, to go and live with another woman, elsewhere in the same city. sad What do you want the wife to do? Should she pack her load and go to the other woman's house to live there? shocked

There are still some other men who batter their wives, in addition to cheating on them. undecided Some women have sustained permanent disability as a result of such beatings, while others have even lost their lives. angry Would you advocate for your sisters or daughters to continue living with an abusive man? My neighbour did her internship at a psychiatric hospital in Nigeria and she still speaks about a huge number of women she came across in there, who lost their sanity as a result of the cruelty meted out by their husbands.

Abeg, life is for the living, o jare. sad Every individual has different thresholds of pain. Any woman that can no longer cope with her husband's ill-treatment or bashing is free to leave. If she dies at the hands of the man, who will take care of her children?? angry

In the past, even our fathers who had an eye for the weaker sex, ended up marrying the other women they were dating, or bringing them in as 2nd or 3rd wives. Yet, they met all their responsibilities on the home front and still took care of their wives, and gave them respect. The men of these days do not do all that, they just run amok and mess up thye lives of the women they get involved with! undecided

A humble, well-adjusted and disciplined single mother who is equipped to take care of her children by herself in her own home, is far better than a 2-parent home where mother and father are at loggerheads all day, and the children are on the receiving end of all the toxic issues going on in that home!

How many people here on Nairaland who bought land from real estate companies have been able to build on their plots?

How many companies selling land here on Nairaland with 'Excision under processing' have gotten theirs?

How many estates have valid legal documentation for parcels of land that they sell?

I'm a property lawyer and I have conducted due diligence im behalf of clients with regards to several estates being advertised here on Nairaland. Many of them don't have valid documents, some use C of Os to scam people, some aren't processing any Excision that they claim to process.

There's a particular estate being sold here on Nairaland where the company is fraudulently using a C of O not related to the land. Buyers aren't aware of this because they didn't get their own Surveyors to the site before paying. They're pouring millions of naira for an estate with phantom documents.

Unfortunately, the greatest scams by real estate companies are in the Ibeju-Lekki axis. They have packaging but they're hardcore fraudsters.

As for the Omoniles, some may land-grabbing, property reselling scammers who have defrauded many Nigerians, but there are ways of handling them. In fact, as a lawyer, I can't buy a single grain of sand from most of these real estate companies as I'll rather buy from the omoniles.

Very soon, I'll have to open some threads here on Nairaland to expose the scams being perpetrated by these Omoniles and real estate companies selling land in Nigeria.

Edit: Been getting tons of PMs regarding this issue. For those who may not be able to reach me via PM, I can be reached via Watsapp or SMS on 08063790773.
