Apparently, if Bomadi could be this undeveloped, now imagine how difficult it would be to access the place yet Papa Awolowo remembered them and practically took government presence there. It's obvious that "they" the writer was referring to are Igbo speaking groups at the borders of Igboland territories with non Igbo speaking people, he gave examples of Nsukka and Aros.
Only a deluded Edoid would interpret his use of "they" in the case of Anambra North zone, to mean non Igbo speaking Igala settlements there, when it's obvious he was talking about Igbo speaking groups with Igala influence. Why do you keep referring to yourself as a deluded Edoid? Anyway, that's your problem, not mine. You want us to believe that you were inside the mind of the writer when he made that comment? Guy, your delusion knows no bounds. Why not let the writer himself clarify what he meant by using the term "they"? You just had to jump in to reveal your delusions and rabid hate. Ishiagu's, Akaeze's of Ebonyi and some Nsukka people. You wrote Bini phrases as Ika but that's not Ika, there was an Obi of Agbor before inferiority complex made you change it to Dein. And to sum it up in your write up, You rightly and deemed it fit to describe or is it call Ika "Proto Igbo - Bini". Now for your information, that your subgroup of Ika is close to Bini doesn't make you Bini. Calabar, Oct 12, (THEWILL) - Nigeria’s politicians of note have continued to identify with Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State and commiserate with him over the death of his mother, Mrs. Comfort Imoke.
Among those who called on Monday to condole with him at the Governor’s Lodge, Calabar, were the 2nd Republic Senate President, Senator Joseph Wayas (GCON) and the Chairman Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South, Chief Tony Anenih.
Wayas, who called earlier, remarked that there are always two days in a man’s life and that he can testify that losing a mother is one of the most painful things in any body’s life, adding that "Mama is gone but her warmth shall live for ever" and thanked God that she lived old enough to see the fruit of her labour.
The elder statesman wished she should have stayed a bit longer but condoled Imoke that he should take heart as he has grown older while his mother had achieved her purpose on earth, explaining that he called personally, on behalf of himself, wife and members of his family, because the death is a great loss to the state as words sent through a letter would not be enough to express the grief.
Responding, Governor Imoke on behalf of the Imoke family, described Wayas as a distinguished leader of Nigeria noting that his visit and kind words would go a long way to soothe their feelings as they go through this period of bereavement while thanking God for the life of their mother.
Imoke said they would take comfort and solace from the visit which was a reflection of the life she lived and promised to keep him informed of the obsequies.
Chief Anenih said though there was no notice of her illness, he was happy that she lived a fulfilled life and that she brought up her children in an honourable manner, stating that it is the wish of every parent that their children should bury them.
Photo: Chief Tony Anenih speaking during his visit to condole with Governor Imoke on the demise of his mother.
Adding that she had a respectable person like Governor Liyel Imoke as son and that he is one of the two persons people always look up to for solutions when national issues are discussed, which he attributed to the upbringing he received from his mother.
The one time Minister of Works under President Olusegun Obasanjo as well as former Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) PDP, who was accompanied by a two time Military Governor and former Minister of Defense, General Godwin Abbey, assured Imoke that they were behind him in his period of grief and that he should be informed of every detail of the obsequies to enable him brief President Goodluck Jonathan, saying that he expressed the sympathy of the leaders of South-South, leaders of Edo State and Abuja.
Governor Liyel Imoke in his response, described the visit as special because his mother was from Edo State and that the condolence from his in-laws was gratifying for the family because it is family and friends that give them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
He thanked them for the visit and support and requested that they continue to keep the family in their prayers and that the Almighty should receive her souls.http://www.thenigerianvoice.com/news/36201/wayas-anenih-condole-with-imoke-over-mothers-demise.html Liyel Imoke loses mother: MOTHER of the governor of Cross River State, Mrs. Comfort Imoke (Nee Imoukhuede) is dead. She died in the early hours of yesterday at the age of 81. In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Liyel Imoke, Mr. Pat Ugbe, the deceased was described as a pioneer community and public healthcare delivery expert, who devoted her lifetime to serving her community. She is survived by six children. Her burial arrangement will be announced later by the family. http://www.nigeria70.com/nigerian_news_paper/liyel_imoke_loses_mother/278068 |

Anyone who disagrees with a comment made by an Igbo person is automatically tagged a Yoruba man, even if he is from Kafanchan, Bachama or Idoma. The Liyel Imoke you are claiming as an Igbo kinsman, from an Igbo speaking part of Cross-River, actually has an Edo mother from Sabongida-Ora, who hailed from the Aig-Imoukhuede family. If you are familiar with that area in Edo State, you would realise that many of them even bear Yoruba names, either as first names or middle names. I have met some Cross-River indigenes who swear that they are NOT in any way related to the Igbo, while I have met a few who would readily claim they have links with Nd'Igbo. Every man to his own. gidgiddy: Yes the peace agreement I meant was the Aburi agreement. You can imagine the level of acrimony that was around to necessitate Ojukwu and Gowon meeting outside Nigeria. Whatever account you heard about Aburi, the most important thing which everyone will agree on is that an agreement was signed by Gowon and Ojukwu in front of the then president of Ghana, General Ankrah. Now you said that Ojukwu got 80% of what he wanted? Yes this is true. He got it on paper in Aburi, Ghana. He did not get in reality in Nigeria. Do you know why Ojukwu declared Biafra? Ojukwu declared Biafra because Gowon broke the cardinal rule of the Aburi agreement rendering the entire agreement useless. The Aburi agreement stated that Gowon would not change the confederal structure of Nigeria agreed in Ghana unless all four Military Governors of the four regions also agreed. It didn't matter if three of them agreed, all four must and had to agree. On the 27th of May 1966, Gowon violated this agreement by announcing the abolishment of the 4 regions and the creation of 12 states. Gowon acted in direct contravention of the agreement he signed because Ojukwu never agreed to repealing the regions. In response, Ojukwu declared Biafra 3 days later. Ojukwu never got what he negotiated and signed in Ghana. Bros, this your theory you posted here is highly twisted oh! Ojukwu got 80% of what he wanted in Aburi both on paper and in reality but he still went ahead to ignore all entreaties NOT to go to war. He started by seizing Fed. govt assets in the East and unilaterally taking all kind of decisions without consulting other military governors of the other regions. Go back to the archives to read the truth about what actually took place then! Also find out why N. Akpan Secretary to the Military Governor-East, who attended the Aburi meeting with Ojukwu disagreed with Ojukwu's version of the events that transpired in Aburi, when they returned to Nigeria! |

As of the time Gowon took over, the regions existed without their powers of autonomy which had been taken away by decree 34. Isn't it funny that so far you are the only one i know of that has ever denied the import of decree 34 by Ironsi ? What am I seeing? You mean that in the year of our Lord 2016, someone is still arguing blindly that Decree 34 did not extinguish the autonomy of the regions or kill the spirit of regionalism? Ye gods! What we are trying to say is that Ojukwu new, as a senior officer in the army, before the war that millions of souls will be lost because he was ill prepared. The deaths could have been avoided.
Let me ask you a question, Azikiwe, Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello fought for Nigerians independence right. Ahmadu Bello was killed in a coup by young Igbo soldiers, Awolowo was at the front of the situation trying to queel the civil war. Please, where was Azikiwe all through the civil war. Why didn't anyone hear of his contributions to ending the war.
Your people should stop being ungrateful to a man who stood for your fathers when there own ran away.
I have never heard any Igbo youth mention Zik or when call him a coward. That I believe is because the stories told by your elders never mentioned him, and no one has the guts to ask.
To the 20pounds issue, note that most Igbos who had accounts in Nigerian banks withdrew all their savings before going back to the east. Let your elders be sincere with you for once. Guy, abeg leave them. They will never acknowledge the truth. Even the South-easterners that did not own any bank account and did not save a dime in any bank, are part of those lamenting the 20 pounds policy. They are in fact, the ones making the loudest noise. When the Biafran troops overan the old Mid-West and looted the Central Bank in that area, did any of them stop to consider the implication of their actions? When Ojukwu came back and got back his father's properties that were seized, did he lobby the Federal government to return the properties of any South-easterners that were seized during the war? All the Civil war veterans at Oji River, what has been done by South-east governors to rehabilitate them? |

gidgiddy: The OP made so many mistakes:
He said Ojukwu started a war: How could Ojukwu have started a war when it was Gowon that came down to east to start fighting?
He said that Ojukwu executed people like Victor Banjo, Ifeajuna, Alale and Mr Abam for opposing him: I would suggest to him to find a book called 'No place to hide: crises and conflicts inside Biafra' by Ben Odogwu. In this book he will read the ful text of how these four men were tried for plotting to topple Ojukwu and how they were secretly recorded planning their coup.
He said that Ojukwu didn't consult anyone before declaring Biafra when it is a historical fact that it was the Eastern Nigeria consultative assembly which was comprised of all the representatives and Chiefs of of the 20 provinces that made up former the eastern region that mandated Ojukwu to declare the Eastern region a separate country on 29th May 1967.
The OP said that Ojukwu rejected aid for his suffering people. Ojukwu never rejected foreign aid. What Ojukwu rejected was Gowon trying to control the distribution of the aid.
Ojukwu may have been highanded, brash and condescending but it was war situation. Hardley the time to be Mr nice guy.
The OP also failed to take into account that over 50,000 easterners were slaughtered in broad daylight and that Ojukwus signed a peace agreement in Ghana with Gowon which Gowon decided not to honour.
Ojukwu did what he had to do to protect his people and I commend him for standing up to fight northern Nigerian hegemony at a time when all others decided to be cowards and submit themselves to Nothern slavery. Guy, even your own rejoinder has so many errors. What year were you born and whose viewpoints are you quoting? Which peace agreement was signed in Ghana? If you are speaking about the Aburi accord, a lot of key players have come out to state their own side of the facts and render a true account of what transpired during the meeting. Go and do some research to get the real facts. Ojukwu wanted a confederacy and a lot of other things as well. Over 80% of his demands were met, yet he still went ahead to declare secession after several entreaties not to do so, and a lot of warnings about the consequences of his action. So please stop recycling hearsay and free your mind! |
