pls quote the section of the constitution, cos as far as i know, principal members are chosen from the party, the party reserves the right to zone it, handpick or conduct a mock elections within the party, constitutionally such positions are recognise by law, such positions are filled from a particular party, the senate only ratifies such positions.
While you are asking your question, please you too should show us the section of the constitution that allows the so-called party to write a letter imposing candidates on the house, thereby depriving members of that house the democratic right of choosing their own leaders. undecided

Olaone1:
I don't know why APC "leaders" are complaining. When Tambuwal was a thorn in the flesh of PDP leaders, they hailed him and encouraged him. When Amaechi openly disrespected GEJ and his party, Tinubu and co called him a patriot. Why are they now whingeing like ninnies? Why?!

Saraki and Dogara have done nothing wrong, to be honest. Why should NASS allow Tinubu, an outsider, to choose its leadership? Let's be fair here. It is power play and Tinubu lost out. Chikena.
IdiAmin1:
Another condemnation coming from APC. Is APC the ruling or opposition party sef?

By allowing the senators to make the choice on who and who becomes their principal officers, Saraki is democratically in order.

So APC should continue crying me an ocean for all I care. Nonsense undecided
Abeg, help me tell them!!! wink cool

I have been shaking my head trying to find out if the rabid authors of the so-called APC letter written to Saraki, took time out to study our constitution or the house rules.

Where is it written that a party's letter is supreme to the Constitution or the extant house rules?? shocked shocked shocked

Why do some people keep arguing blindly?

Some jesters keep chanting the "party has decided", "Saraki betrayed the party," or "the party's decision is supreme." sad

Who exactly are these members of the party that decided, then sat down to draft a letter to NASS to impose candidates on the house, when most of the house members within the Senate and House of Reps had already formed caucuses and alliances, to elect their own leaders??

Who are these clueless APC letter writers for goodness sake Who?? huh huh

Ppeessuu, you are defending the indefensible.

Did you talk to the families of Ibeju-lekki whose hectares of lands he grabbed and appropriated for a pittance and rendered homeless??

Have you checked the proportion of revenue from the Lagos State treasury that goes into his coffers through the scam called Alpha Beta Consulting which he set up to milk the state? Is his daughter the most qualified person to be the Iyaloja in a state where there are several market women of distinction, timber and calibre with much better business acumen? angry angry

Guy, no man can make another man....it is God that makes all men! And the people who truly elect them as representatives. angry

There are several people who suffered, made sacrifices and had their properties confiscated during the NADECO era, but none of them have exhibited the megalomaniac tendencies and the greed that Tinubu has done.

Politics › Re: FG Lifts Ban On Importation Of Furniture , Textiles by laudate:
Onegai:
Nothing stops Nigeria from being another China (you don't have expensive labour here, you have unskilled and unmotivated labour). And you overestimate the Chinese: they are a juggernaut when it comes to manufacturing but the average consumer in most countries around the world will prefer to buy a non-Chinese product if they have a bit more disposable income. The American Cotton Industry realised this and packaged and lobbied appropriately, Africa on the other hand ran to China because it's cheaper (it's not necessarily the best quality, even in road construction, compare JB to CCECC or better yet, drive through Orile express and tell yourself "this was built in the last 3 years".

The average babe in Lagos will rather buy a made-in-Turkey outfit or even a 2nd hand European outfit than a brand-new Chinese one. Nigerian Govt has to tap into this and aggressively defend their industries (other countries do) and defend their citizen's right to ownership of big companies in the country.

In that same Asia which is quick to offer cheap manufacturing, they have policies to discourage long term ownership of most factories and plants. Their ToC will specify 25 years ownership to be transferred to a national afterwards. Nigeria should do the same, defend our local Textile industry by saying "sure you can invest but we give you 25 years to make your money and sell over 60% of the company to an indigene and 70% of your trained and skilled staff must be indigenes". Then pass policies to grant tax breaks to indigenous companies and publicise the Nigerian textile industry.

Not a fairytale, just bloodyminded hard work.
Bros, all you are still advocating here is a bloody fairytale. angry

Did China open up their economy to all kinds of imports, before they became a force to be reckoned with in the manufacturing world? No. They shut their doors to a lot of things (due to Communism in the early days) and worked underground to get things right. They even stole technology wherever they could find it, and replicated it on their shores.

There are a large number of American and European firms doing off-shore contracting and manufacturing through Chinese based firms. All they do, is hand down their quality standards to the Chinese manufacturers and insist that they meet it.

India did the same thing several years ago. They banned several products and insisted their own people must manufacture only what they could use. They took up the challenge and did so. Today, they have refined a lot of their products and are even exporting it.

Yes, a number of people prefer made in Turkey or US. But if you actually look carefully at the label on that US or European product, you would find components of it that have been made in China and other places. sad

I have worked for a couple of multinationals in different countries and I can tell you one thing for a fact. People will always do business in an area where they have competitive advantage, and no country throws open its borders to all and sundry, in any area where they know their home-grown industries would be adversely affected by such imports.

Do your research. Am out.

AbdulMuttalab was not wearing a veil when he nearly blew up an aeroplane midair. A veil covers only the face and no terrorist hides bombs on his face.
Ban the burqa? It is easy, the terrorists will start dressing like nuns. I'd like to see you getting excited like you are now when we start asking that nuns be made to stop covering themselves.
The day the outfit of the nuns constitute a security risk, I will support calls for the authorities to ban their attire.

Apart from that, a lot of nuns have the shorter slim-fit version of their habit, that allows them to move around freely and is incapable of concealing weapons or bombs. They can wear that, until the terrorist battle is won. undecided

Politics › Re: FG Lifts Ban On Importation Of Furniture , Textiles by laudate: 7:58pm On Jun 24, 2015
Onegai:
Actually you probably don't. I purchased some of those bubu tops and dresses usually sold on Akerele street (Surulere) and to my surprise, found out they were all imported. Ankara and lace is imported, only Nichem Wax is produced in Nigeria. So unless you're wearing Nichem, Aso-eke and Tie-And-Dye constantly, you, like everyone else in Nigeria, is wardrobed in 70% imported fabrics. Every designer on the fashion scene is going to a China to produce or manufacture textiles.

There was excessive corruption in Customs over this matter. Let them lift the ban, pour money into the Textile Industries (especially in Kano, the SW and SS cotton) and then gradually phase out imports.

Our Textiles and Furniture cannot compete with the imported stuff, last year I couldn't find a buyer for local Leather goods (no quality control, high costs). Lifting this ban will hurt the industry but the industry needs to sit up and modernise and enforce quality control. The assumption that Nigerians will choose cheap imports over quality local isn't always true. And with the Naira in a free-fall...

The best thing Fed Govt and State Govt can do is fix the infrastructure and encourage Nigerians to invest in them. And make it more viable to sell Made-in-Nigeria

Same thing happened with Paper: the output of quality from our local paper mills reduced, almost all paper on the market is imported, Customs turned a blind eye to it and paper manufacturers whined about losing business instead of thinking of strategies to improve their product and challenge the imported stuff. Then everyone blamed govt (as if they are not part of the problem).
What you have advocated here is a fairytale.

There is no way local industries will be able to compete effectively against imported textiles. What is the labour cost in China? Haven't you heard of 'dumping' in international trade?? huh shocked shocked

The paper industry is still in dire straits as we speak. Every time the price of paper jumps up in the international market, the price of local paper here, becomes prohibitive.

Sure, the best way is to prevent them from getting the dynamites. At least in the case of the Senegalese & Babanrigas, you get to see the faces of the perpetrators and can quickly spot if something is amiss, from their body language and countenance.

You're joking, Tinubu isn't controlling any sh*t in Kogi... people are tired of Smart Adeyemi and Aro isn't in a popular party besides Dino has most from kogi LGA , tied in other LGAs
May Dino Melaye never win an election in Kogi State again. Who are those proposing him for governor? Like I stated on another thread:

Dino Melaye is a disgrace. He represents Kogi West which has the worst network of roads in the entire state, nay, in the entire country...if am not mistaken.

Daily, lives are lost on the Kabba - Mopamuro - Isanlu road and Dino has done nothing to help reverse the trend, by ensuring that the roads are fixed and the carnage is reduced. His predecessor Smart Adeyemi was no better. Smart was always getting embroiled in controversy, conflict and unnecessary arguments, until he was taken out. Dino has now taken over the baton. Under Smart's watch the roads deteriorated further, and public utilities in Kogi West became non-existent. shocked shocked shocked

Instead of Dino Melaye to concentrate on revamping the fortunes of the area, he has decided to expose his clueless, 'money-miss-road' persona to the world. angry The deputy governor of Kogi State also comes from that area, yet their people still suffer from a lot of backwardness and horrible lack of development. sad

Dino Melaye needs to tell the world how he made his money. Last time I checked, he was not on the board of any multi-national or publicly quoted company. Neither does he have any shareholding in any marginal field or an upstream oil & gas company. undecided

Those clapping for him, should bear in mind that when push comes to shove, the likes of Dino Melaye will have no hiding place.
