I am scratching my head, trying to understand what the argument is all about. There is no metropolis in the world today, without its' original indigenous inhabitants. In the case of Lagos, the indigenous people were the Aworis of Yoruba stock, and till today Yoruba is still the lingua franca of the majority that inhabit the city ( save for a few districts). Yes, there was an expedition by the Bini in Lagos, but that expedition was not designed to annihilate the original indigenous populace. And till today, there is no Bini man that would offend the sensibilities of the indigenous people of Lagos by claiming it is a "no man's land."So what is the problem? Calabar was also a sea port many years ago and the British planted their feet firmly in that territory. Do we now say that the Efik and Ibibio no longer own Calabar because it served as a seaport for the British and later became a metropolis? I weak o! |

What is the size of the land, sef? Is it up to 5 acres? It is people like you that make things difficult for their clients by slamming an exorbitant price on the property. Bros, you do not even know the intricacies of what you are selling. LNG is far different from LPG. And if you retain that =N=500 million tag, you will still be hawking the property on social media for another 3 years without getting a buyer! |

LNG Plant, ke Are you sure that the gas plant is an LNG plant? Check well, oh! It is likely to be an LPG plant. And your price is nothing short of ridiculous. A brand new gas plant would not cost more than =N=40 million. Add 2 gensets for another =N=8million. And what do we have?? Certainly not the =N=550 million that your client is seeking for his gas plant. |

esere826: I read an article by Shaka Momodu in Thisday http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/kwankwaso-the-master-beaten-at-his-game/212865/. Shaka was upset with Kwakwaso for being proud of mobilizing 2 million almajari's in kano to vote APC after his 8 year rule of the state I saw this as the first comment in the article, and thought to place it here .
I try hard not to be anti-any tribe (although its difficult). All that I desire is that everyone be treated equally with the same bar set and the same 'inalienable' opportunity You missed the point in Shaka Momodu's article on Kwakwanso. His point was that Kwakwanso is a man that cannot be trusted because he elevates treachery and betrayal, to a high art. Please read the article again. Shaka Momodu: Kwankwaso: The Master Beaten at His Game
THIS REPUBLIC By Shaka Momodu, Email: shaka.momodu@thisdaylive.com.
I have watched the former governor of Kano State and newly minted Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso for sometime now. The signals coming from him are justifiably worrisome. I don’t know much about his stewardship during his reign as the governor of Kano State, but I heard he did some good for the people of the state, and that he is immensely popular. I cannot vouch for both.
But what I do know of him from his public presentations and utterances in the last two years have helped me to build a character portrait of him and come to an informed opinion of him: Kwankwaso is a man who lures his friend or colleague to the guillotine with a false smile, viciously stabs him to death and then turns around to brag about it in public as if the evil of treachery and betrayal are virtues for celebration. I have come to see Kwankwaso as a man you turn your back on at your own peril. And as the saying goes in the land of my fathers: “Backstabbers are only powerful when you turn your back”. He is good at the “game” when your back is turned on him, otherwise, he is impotent. Clearly outsmarted by the new Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Kwankwaso has suddenly remembered that the party’s position should have been followed, describing the emergence of Saraki — his co-traveller in the New PDP charade — as “dangerous for Buhari’s administration”. He regretted that the Senate President had used his ambition to destroy party discipline and should be punished - expressing fears about betraying the confidence which Nigerians reposed in them by voting for change. It was honestly shocking reading these statements attributed to him, and whatever modicum of doubt I had about the dishonesty of our politicians instantly vapourised.
Kwankwaso is now talking about discipline? In case many Nigerians have forgotten, he was one of the people who alongside Saraki, used their ambitions to bring down their former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The betrayer, who gloats about his treacherous exploits, now wants Nigerians to take him serious. This must be “a joke taken too far” – as a man who rose to political relevance on the platform of his former party — the PDP — as Minister of Defence, and a two-term governor, but ended up robbing the PDP of the mandate and giving it to a party that was not even in existence when the mandate was given by the people, is the least qualified to moralise about discipline and betrayal.
Particularly striking now is that his position during the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) crisis is different from his new position on toeing the party line. His position then was that nobody must choose a Chairman of the NGF for them. His shots were directed at Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency which was not disposed to Rotimi Amaechi remaining as the NGF chair.
Recall that at the height of the NGF election debacle, which former governor of Rivers State, Amaechi, clearly won, it was Kwankwaso who came out to regale the public with tales of his exploits as a betrayer, declaring triumphantly that he set up the then Governor of Plateau State Jonah Jang to fail. He admitted that he personally nominated Jang to contest for the chairmanship of the NGF and urged the then Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam to support him only to satisfy the yearnings of some governors for a compromise candidate to run against Amaechi. “Let me say that we are northerners and I think we should be consulted on what we need for the North. Some people have decided that we should produce the chairman of the NGF - that is not our choice. We know what we want in the politics of this country, and even if that is what we want, we are not expecting anybody to choose for us - we should choose for ourselves. I think that point should be very clear. It was a game and we were trying to prove to them that nobody can shave our heads in our absence – we have proved to them that they are still at the elementary level of politics,” he said at that time. I don’t know why he felt the need to remind Nigerians about being a northerner. Whatever the reason, it wasn’t necessary.
Well, he was marooned at the International Conference Centre (ICC) waiting for the purported meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari when he heard that the election of the Senate President had commenced. According to him, he immediately jumped into his car and raced to the National Assembly only to find Saraki taking the oath of office as the Senate President. He could only look on with seething rage inside him. For once, the self-acclaimed master of the game of numbers was beaten flat at his own game. His head was not even shaved with a razor blade in his absence, but with broken bottle that left deep cuts and gashes on his head.
I was taken aback by his public boast of treachery and backstabbing – as backstabbers have never been known to come out and claim credit for their dishonourable conducts. They always hide behind the cloak of anonymity and when suspicion falls on them, they often deny any role because of the ignominy associated with it. But this was different – that Kwankwaso came out to gleefully claim credit and gloat about an act that is considered one of the greatest forms of vice in all of humanity’s history speaks to his character and moral standing. It really rankled me, and I took note of the man not necessarily because of who he supported, but the chest-thumping after the clear act of betrayal. I agonised for days that a public officer in the calibre of a sitting governor could publicly claim to have set up his fellow governor - who was not even interested in the race in the first place - but was lured into it by Kwankwaso himself only to turn round and betray him. I felt that day, that our country had reached a new low in moral decadence. The then Governor of Bauchi State Isa Yuguda was so shocked by Kwankwaso’s public boasting that he reportedly questioned the calibre of leadership being provided by his likes. He was quoted to having said: “Kwankwaso has spoken his mind, and has confirmed that his idea behind nominating Jang was to disgrace him. If I, as a leader, as a governor, will look at my colleague and take a decision ostensibly to disgrace him, then it is a tragedy. Where is our morality? Where are Islam and Christianity in this country for goodness’ sake?”
I didn’t miss the clear clannish arrogance explicitly exhibited and the implied superiority complex in Kwankwaso’s statement - what he said and the manner he delivered the message were quite instructive.
My fears were amplified further when I read an interview he granted some newspapers in April in Abuja. Asked if he thought the former president, Goodluck Jonathan, was a hero for conceding defeat, Kwankwaso responded: “I believe the president is naive because he had all the opportunities to change direction. I don’t blame him; he didn’t play this sort of game for sometime at the national level. So, he didn’t know who was who in this country. He was just looking at faces and those who were well-dressed, carrying many cell phones and they meet at the airport. They smile and he says well, these are good people. He sits down to listen to gossip and sometimes, he doesn’t even know their names. He made a big mistake by picking the wrong people.
“Let me tell you, our leaders who have been in this game before us especially those who were in the First Republic told us so much about our friends in this country and he happens to come from the South-south, where they are very close to our leaders. We did everything possible to work with him but of course, he vandalised the opportunities. He didn’t handle it very well, up to the extent that most of us saw that we didn’t have any future as PDP members and as individuals, thereby galvanising us into action by coming together to defeat him.
“Look at what his wife was saying that northerners are this and that; how could you say that to northerners? You can’t insult us and think that you will get away with it. This is democracy - a game of numbers, and that is why we went back and put Almajiris together to get about two million votes.”
He was referring to the Kano State presidential election result which produced over two million total votes cast out of which 1.9 million votes went to Buhari. The boast of mobilising Almajiris to defeat the president is quite instructive, and should be seen for its underlying meaning.
This same Kwankwaso, it should be recalled, was the one who moved against the appointment of Chief Festus Odimegwu, an accomplished technocrat, as the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), because according to him, the former managing director of Nigerian Breweries is an “alcoholic”. He was quoted thus: “We (the North) are not happy about that appointment, and think (that) it was a mistake. Odimegwu shouldn’t be there in the first place. Why? It’s because, you see unfortunately we were together, somebody read his curriculum vitae.
“He had only worked in alcoholic industry - all his life. And my guess is that he’s taking a lot of his products and that is why we feel (that) his appointment is a mistake because he cannot be the Chairman of NPC and at the same time attacking what his predecessors had done.’’
But Odimegwu’s only sin was his brutal frankness - that he dared to criticise the credibility of all previous censuses carried out in the country, vowing to conduct the most accurate and credible census in 2016 “that will accept itself”. Of course everyone is conscious of the significance of population data as an indispensable tool for national planning and resource allocation. Politicians across-the-board, whether in the North or in the South, but more so in the North, have for ages been known to falsify and manipulate census data to gain resource advantage.
And of course, Kwankwaso saw the danger in Odimegwu’s position – a man with such determination to right all previous wrongs and such outspokenness of truth to power couldn’t be trusted. This is because he is able to claim the numbers’ game because of the “true lies” contained in our censuses which give the North numerical advantage. According to Odimegwu in an interview with THISDAY months after he resigned as the NPC chairman: “Governor Kwankwaso is the biggest beneficiary of the fraud that is the demographic data in Nigeria.” Kano State had the highest population figures in the 2006 census. So, his vehement opposition to Odimegwu was borne out of the fact that he, Kwankwaso feared that those census numbers would unravel for what they truly are – official “true lies.”
It is noteworthy that before Kwankwaso’s campaign to get Odimegwu fired, he had written a letter dated June 28, 2013, soliciting the technical assistance of the Odimegwu-led commission for the Kano State house-numbering, street-naming and provision of an identity card project. When he wrote that letter, he didn’t realise that Odimegwu had been “taking too much beer and was an alcoholic”, but suddenly, he realised this after Odimegwu’s statement about falsification of results of previous censuses.
Interestingly, Odimegwu and Kwankwaso have found a common purpose as members of the same All Progressives Congress ( APC). The former was even a member of Buhari’s Transition Committee. Talk of how politics brings strange bedfellows together in this clime. Kwankwaso, the senator representing Kano Central, is already advertising Buhari’s achievements barely three weeks after inauguration when no single decision has been taken by the president - no policy direction has been unveiled, no ministers have been nominated, no secretary to the government of the federation, no chief of staff, no special advisers save for the two media spokespersons which in itself is odd. The only thing we have seen so far is a ruling party headed for the rocks. According to him, “From the day President Buhari’s victory was announced, things have started changing in the country - the power situation is improving, shares in the capital market are going up, while the exchange rate is stabilising.” Are you kidding me? Are we seeing another campaign based on “true lies”? One is tempted to think that somebody somewhere and not Odimegwu is actually taking “too much alcohol” and has lost his sense of reality.
My final take on Kwankwaso is that he is one of those opportunistic politicians who thrive on our fault lines - ethnic and religious - to advance and sustain their political careers. He sadly sees himself more as a northerner out to defend the interests of the North, than a Nigerian out to advance the interests of Nigeria. His likes are masters of deceit and illusion who thrive on the ignorance of the poor whose name they severally use in vain in pursuit of their personal goals. He is certainly one of those who have held this country down through their politics of dirty intrigues, ethnicity, double-speak and betrayal. The nation needs a break from them. We need a leader who will inspire and unite all Nigerians in hope and faith. Not these ethnic irredentists and heretics of faith masquerading as patriots.

biodunid: Abraham Idowu biodunid04@yahoo.com bb pin: 2B574264 Guy, you are too much!! You nailed it! I have worked in this area for over 15 years, and it still amazes me how a once peaceful, orderly district could degenerate into such a chaotic mass of traffic, simply due to the government's ineptitude. Instead of providing options like rail lines and ferries from Victoria Island through Lekki to the Free Trade Zone, to reduce the traffic, the authorities opted to toll the only arterial road leading to the entire district. Also, the proposed bridge leading from Langbasa to Ikorodu should have been constructed (and should still be constructed) urgently, to create an alternative route for those who need to link the mainland from Lekki. It will save them the hassle of getting to V/I or Ikoyi first, before driving another long stretch to the mainland as it will also reduce the number of cars on the Lekki-Epe Expressway! The sad part is that most of the side roads that branch off LEE or even feed into it, are not connected to each other, so you cannot drive down from Sangotedo through Ajah to Treasure Gardens or Lekki Phase 1, entirely through the side roads, in a bid to avoid the traffic on the expressway! My guy, please collect two bowls of 'isi-ewu' over there for your relaxation and enjoyment, and ask them to send the bill to me. It is on the house. BUTCHCASSIDY: Dont blame him. Blame the f00lish people of Kogi west who anointed him their representative. Blaming the king of fools shouldnt draw ones attention from the vast confederacy of fools who crowned him their king Dino Melaye is a disgrace. He represents Kogi West which has the worst network of roads in the entire state, nay, in the entire country...if am not mistaken. Daily, lives are lost on the Kabba - Mopamuro - Isanlu road and Dino has done nothing to help reverse the trend, by ensuring that the roads are fixed and the carnage is reduced. His predecessor Smart Adeyemi was no better. Smart was always getting embroiled in controversy, conflict and unnecessary arguments, until he was taken out. Dino has now taken over the baton. Under Smart's watch the roads deteriorated further, and public utilities in Kogi West became non-existent. Instead of Dino Melaye to concentrate on revamping the fortunes of the area, he has decided to expose his clueless, 'money-miss-road' persona to the world. The deputy governor of Kogi State also comes from that area, yet their people still suffer from a lot of backwardness and horrible lack of development. Dino Melaye needs to tell the world how he made his money. Last time I checked, he was not on the board of any multi-national or publicly quoted company. Neither does he have any shareholding in any marginal field or an upstream oil & gas company. Those clapping for him, should bear in mind that when push comes to shove, the likes of Dino Melaye will have no hiding place. |

4Play: The more recent bill proposed by Ms Anyanwu increased the punishment applicable to having sex with a girl below 11. It didn't say that one can have sex with a girl above that age. There's a lot of falsehoods that seem to fly around in Nigeria and which poisons debate. Sadly, even the highly educated and accomplished are not immune to the sensationalism. Senator Chris Anyanwu has replied Prof. Wole Soyinka. Her bill does not contain any reference to the age of 11 years, and neither does it carry any of the statements that Soyinka is so upset about. Please see the details below: ricsman: "....I have read your open letter published on PM News and re-published on Bella Naija, premiumtimesng.com and a number of online papers.
No one who read that letter could miss the fury embedded in your words. I know where that fury comes from: moral fiber, good conscience, and love of people. I want to assure you that it was the very same sentiments that drove me to come up with that bill and the same sentiments, that led Senators and members to pass it. As always, your aim was to speak as the voice of reason in our increasingly confused society. I know you meant well. I know you acted out of your deep compassion for Nigerians and fatherly love for the children.
But as I read your open letter, my heart sank because this time, my dear Baba, my dear icon, you are wrong; very wrong. You have been misled by the misinformation circulated by someone who could not read or comprehend a legal draft; someone who did not have the patience to read through a proposal, see what was recommended and what was finally accepted.
You were misled by someone who deliberately distorted the content of one of the most profound bills ever passed by the Nigerian legislature, scandalised the proponent and the institution for reasons that you and I may not know.
No where in the SEXUAL OFFENCES BILL That I proposed; no where in the bill passed by Senate was it stated that you can defile an 11 years old. No where in the bill passed by the Senate was the age “11 years” mentioned.
Here is what was passed in relation to your area of pre-occupation which is defilement clause 6 (2): “A person who commits an offence of defilement shall upon conviction be sentenced to imprisonment for life”.
You claimed that the bill re-defined “female adulthood as marital status”. Where in the bill proposed by me and where in the bill passed by Senate did you see adulthood linked to marital status? The extreme distortion of the spirit, intent and even content of this bill leads me to think that you may be talking about an all- together different piece of legislation. For emphasis, let me state that the bill makes no such linkages as you erroneously stated. I think it may be fear of Senator Yerima that is at play here.
For your information, Senator Yerima and all Senators who participated in the debate, the two times the bill came up on the floor, supported it as a vehicle for instituting a stringent law barring all ranges of sexual offences in Nigeria.
They did this because they also have children, wives, daughters, even mothers and cannot afford to leave them in the current state where abuses are rewarded with a slap on the wrist of the perpetrators because our laws are outdated, without strong in-built deterrence and mechanisms for monitoring and control. This is just another case of people demonising what is clearly in the public good because of deeply-set negative predispositions towards individuals in an institution.
By your strong advocacy against the bill, you have unwittingly stamped your feet in favour of maintaining the status quo. Where we are now..the statusquo.. is a world in which a six year old child is raped to death and then set ablaze. Where we are now, is a place where a father rapes his three year old boys repeatedly and the mother weeps at night and cannot speak out, out of shame and fear of her life. Where we are now, is a place where young Cynthia in her struggles for self-employment ran into a gang who drugged her, raped and murdered her. Where we are now is a place where foreigners come for tourism and turn children into their objects of tourism.
With all due respect Sir, I want to express my deep disappointment with your hastiness in flowing with the mob on this matter. I blame your press officers. I think they should have advised caution. You have known me since the 1990s. There is no way you could have sent fellers and I would not jump onto the next flight to answer you. In fact, a mere telephone call could have dispensed with the matter. If you had even asked someone to get you a copy of the Votes and Proceedings of Senate for that day which published the exact words in the legislation passed, you would have spared yourself the time and emotions spent over what is clear mischief circulated through the web. The people who started it all are hate-mongers. The merely took advantage of the negative public feelings they have built up against the legislature. You have no business with such people, Sir.
I am sure in the most inner recesses of your mind you know I cannot in anyway be associated with any anti-people law. Nothing in my personal history, professional antecedents or even the hard work I did to push through pro-people legislations in Senate, could lead anyone to think of me as capable of working against children, the very people I fought for over the course of my eight years in the Senate.
The Sexual Offences bill is only one of many I did. I also proposed the Occupational Safety and Health bill protecting workers in virtually all sectors of the economy from hazards at work. The only group excluded are those in the oil and gas sectors who have been extensively provided for in the PIB.
There was no “accident” as you call it involved in this legislation. Neither was there an error in judgement. The bill has been fabricated to provide a strong deterrence against abuses. When implemented, it will mitigate the private sufferings of parents; reduce their fear of what happens in their absence to their children at school, in the play grounds, in the neighborhoods, even in religious spaces. Nigeria today is not a safe place for children; not a safe place for girls; not a safe place for small boys; and it is not a safe place either for old women. This legislation it proposes consigns punishments for abhorrent crimes such as we are seeing in our country today. It even covers crimes yet to arrive our shores.
Under this bill, pedophiles will be put away for life not made rock stars as we do today. This bill will bring sanity to our society. It will make Nigeria a better place for all. I suspect that some of those fighting against the bill are fixating on the short title. Its long title shows what it is: a sexual offences prevention bill; a tough deterrence to crime.
I want you to take time and read the final copy of the bill. You will be proud. You will realise that good things can come from Nigeria and Nigerians. It is not only legislations initiated by outsiders and handed to us locals to push for their passage that should be deemed as good for us. By passing that bill, National Assembly has kept faith with the people of Nigeria. It has provided the cover of protection under which Nigerian children can live normal lives of fulfillment without fear.
By your robust advocacy against the bill preventing sexual abuses of children, you foreclose the future of children in this society. But if I read you correctly, I have no doubt that you will reverse yourself on this once you have the correct information. This is why I have written you this letter.
You have made your first “imposition” on Mr. President based on your understanding of the false information circulated by the very offenders you despise. I plead with you as a man who has been found to be a great man of honour and bestowed with the highest literary honour in the world to reconsider.
Let me on behalf of the innumerable victims of abuse in Nigeria; let me invoke the spirit of Cynthia who fell victim in Lagos; and let me plead on behalf of the many wives and husbands deliberately infected with HIV by their partners whose suffering impelled this bill, that you reverse your instruction to Mr. President. The President of the Federal Republic looks to old sages like you for positive direction. That was what you intended to give him.
But now that you know the truth, for the sake of your long established reputation and known love for Nigeria, turn it around and urge Mr. President to sign this bill that will protect our people, restore sanity to society and make Nigeria a better place for all.
I remain your loyal admirer and sister.

Curvinus: Rather than seeking to claim moral high ground and throwing tantrums from a safe distance, I suggest Soyinka and all others dismayed by that law go to court to seek interpretation of the act as to whether it is consistent with the letters of the law.
I say this because public odium alone has never been koown to be very effective in causing any change in this country. Don't mind Soyinka. He is a serial polygamist, himself. Last time I checked, he was on his 4th wife, Folake. At University of Ife, he once dated one of his students, who was just a little over 18 years old. |

I laugh.....in Greek!! Hahahaha!A bungalow in Ajah of all places....an area where the inner streets are untarred and get flooded at the slightest bit of rain. That is where you are offering a BUNGALOW for sale at 30 million !! Osanobua! Chukwu biko! Oghene! Tamuno!
What is the bungalow made of?? Gold??!! Bros, most bungalows in that area go for 11million to 15 million if they are brand new. Older bungalows cost about 6 million to 8 million. Oga, price am well oh! Don't allow people to make fun of you! |

Olushauneddy: .....It's damn obvious you're one of the Anti-Tinubu Nairalander. Tinubu is the APC brainbox just like Obasanjo was the then PDP brainbox. Tinubu was trained with the Obafemi Awolowo political manifesto. While the little political knowledge Saraki acquired was from his late father (Olusola-Saraki). Bros, na wetin dey pain you inside this matter? And why are you taking panadol for Tinubu's headache? Please don't speak of Tinubu and Awolowo in the same breath. Awo was miles ahead of Tinubu! The truth is that I do not trust any politician, Tinubu inclusive. I don't care if he is a brainbox, chatterbox or pillbox. Let him stop imposing his candidates on people.... this is not Lagos State, where he has pocketed the treasury, the executive and the house of assembly! Why can't he live and let live? |

ifyalways: OP, I have been searching for u and this thread. I saw it some weeks ago and told my staff who's interested. She called u and went to inspect the place. Granted, you didn't ask her to pay registration or inspection fees but for crying out loud, this house is not at Ikota villa estate, rather it's at " Ikota village right by Ikota bridge". Big difference!!!! Please be honest and specific. Hehehe .... I am laughing in Greek! Ikota village right by Ikota bridge is next door to the canal and a whole lot of mosquitoes! Wey di poster make him come answer dis question??! |
