My favorite moderator: Lawyer, dude is cool and extremely informative. Hmmm, worst?? Well I won't call them the worst but they are very interesting, Becomrrich is an interesting character! I must say. |
@Blackspade You hit the nail on the head - On the other hand, China looks to Africa like a trading partner (like it should be), that's why the West is worried. China took a gamble with Africa, and the outcome was successful. Its this strategy that is going to make the Chinese a super economic power! The west, especially the US have everything to be worried about because the Chinese have discovered investment opportunities in the emerging markets of Africa that will sustain them through this global crisis. |
@Eziachi Its cool. Just enjoy the dude he is entertaining. |
Errrr BecomRrich, Are we voting for the new republic of Benin here? ![]() |
BecomURich, the president elect for the New Republic of Benin, kai, just when I thought homeboy took a break he hits us with the nuclear bomb!! This guy is on a role today oooo!! |
@Becomrrich; I thought you would have suggested that the New Republic of Benin supply lagos state with constant power ![]() |
Hmm. Interesting. There is definitely collateral damage here. Displaced pple like this Alhaji will definitely take some desperate measures, however I was informed that these people were given enough notice to vacate. Also looks like a good number of these folks are emigrating to cities like Ibadan (another reason crime is up there). In all, I would say this is the typical challenge in politics. You can't please everyone. But dude has been in the same spot since 1978?? Not sure what to say about that. |
Hey still here |
@siparaporo Hey thanks for the encouragement. Yes, trust me I have had my eye on Naija for a long time. Since the whole concept of "sub-division" building has become more and more popular in Naija. As a matter of fact, I have been doing extensive research on building practices in the "tropical" climate regions of the USA (Florida) where the designs of the homes and construction practices are more "exportable." My main focus when it comes to building houses in Naija would be tackling the pest issues and building houses that are "maintainable." One thing about our mentality back home is that we are not very "maintenance-driven." We tend to build once and just not bother with maintenance. Then the pest issue, that's another story. The rats in Nigeria are some serious strategists and I think the problems with pests is due to the fact that we are not good at completly "sealing" our doors, windows, ceilings etc. I actually have some software which can produce all sorts of plans like these, and even give live tours into the building as well as 3D renderings. Its called Chief Architect and you can check the software out at www.chiefarchitect.com , The software is really good. I really think there is a lot of opportunity and demand for western-influenced residential builders in Nigeria. We have a long way to go but we can get there. |
@Siparaporo Thanks for the info. Info like this comes in very handy for us "Andrews" (nigerians wey don check out) who are looking at building homes in naija. I hold a degree in residential construction from a tech school in Georgia and just trying to do research on construction practices here and in Naija. Usually over here, along with a set of plans comes what they call a "materials take off list." This list basically is used by estimators to show all materials needed and their quantities. It is from this list that the cost of materials is estimated. Labor is a whole seperate estimation method. Cheers |
@sultaan. Just curious as to where you got that info from (Money sent home down 50%). I can believe this as people's disposable income has shrunk in the west therefore they have less to send home, but still curious as to where you got your stats from. Cheers PS: Is the dollar really going for N200 or is that just speculation? |
These are very nice plans. The only thing I am curious about, if anyone can help me out with my question is the cost of construction that you post for each plan. Where and how do you base your numbers? Bearing in mind the "no rhyme or reason" inflation in nigeria. Are these figures based on factual/historical prices? Just curious for those who want to budget and not find themselves running out of money while constructing. Thanks |
