PoliticsEnugu Government To Shut Schools, Markets Obeying ‘sit-at-home’ Monday -Gov Mbah by leanonme82(op): 8:12am On Jun 04, 2023
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has threatened to close schools, markets and transport units that failed to open for business and academic activities on Monday henceforth.

The governor issued the threat in a Public Service Announcement made available to journalists on Saturday night, adding that the directive was a sequel to his recent ban/cancellation of Mondays’ sit-at-home in all nooks and crannies of the state starting from Monday, June 5, 2023.

The statement partly read, “This is to inform all schools, markets, retail outlets, hospitals, transporters, malls and the general members of the public that, in view of the recent ban/cancellation of Mondays’ sit-at-home by the Government of Enugu State, in all nooks and crannies of the state, they have been directed to go about their normal businesses and activities every day of the week, including Mondays.

“The above-mentioned bodies and others alike are required to comply with the directive as adequate security measures have been taken to guarantee their safety.

“Members of the government’s task force will be moving around to monitor compliance. Any market, transport outlet, or any other body that fails to open for business risks being shut down immediately.”

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Commanders of PMF Squadron Bases, and other Tactical and Operational Units of the Command, to deploy personnel and all the operational and intelligence resources at their disposal to actualize the declaration, by ensuring maximum public security and safety of citizens and their property in the state.

The Enugu State Commissioner in a statement issued through the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, titled, “End to illegal sit-at-home: Enugu CP orders adequate deployment of policing resources and perfecting of strategies already devised,” appealed for the cooperation of the citizens to ensure the success of the directive of the governor.

Ammani, however, warned miscreants and troublemakers that the Command would not spare anyone in whatever name that would try to cause trouble in the state.

The statement reads, “Sequel to the declaration of the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, putting an end to the illegal Sit-at-home order in the state, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, further directs all units and formations to ensure that the strategies already devised to reverse the ugly trend are implemented to the letter, warning that lapses on their parts shall not be tolerated.

“The Commissioner notes that innocent and law-abiding citizens of the State deserve to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or physical threats by unscrupulous and subversive criminal elements, enforcing the illegal Sit-at-home order.

“Hence, he tasks the Supervisory Officers and personnel under them to live up to expectations, by ensuring that every part of the state is visibly patrolled and necessary policing actions taken to forestall possible adverse activities of the undesirable criminal elements.

“CP Ammani reiterates that the operations to end the illegal Sit-at-home order will be jointly executed by the Police, the Military, and other Security Agencies in the state.

“Therefore, he warns unrepentant and subversive criminal elements, known to have in recent times murdered fellow brothers and sisters, destroyed their property and disrupted the social and economic well-being of their people without conscience, in the name of enforcing the inconceivable illegal sit-at-home order, to turn over a new leaf, as the Security Forces shall not spare any person or individuals found wanting.

“The CP, therefore, enjoins citizens of the state to cooperate with the Police and the Joint Security Forces, while remaining law-abiding and vigilant as they fully begin to go about their lawful businesses on Mondays, like every other work day.

“He urges them to promptly report criminals and their activities on such days and beyond to the nearest Police Station or call the Command’s emergency hotlines on 08032003702, 08075380883, 08086671202 or 08098880172 for necessary policing actions.”

An earlier tweet had gone viral on social media showing Remi Tinubu sitted with the President and Vice President.

Although this picture only showed these 3, it went viral on twitter after an obidient member posted it saying it was an economic meeting involving the NNPC GMD and the CBN Governor.

This has however now been confirmed as false as photos of the actual meeting with the Economic heads, showing Emefiele and Kyari, have surfaced on social media and Remi Tinubu was not present at that particular meeting.

You still need to talk about revenue generation in states if it is going to be a living wage. Else you'll just announce a figure and state governors wont pay it. Except theres a law passed to punish states dt dont. Some have not even paid the 30k.

I hope they are able to find a solution for a living wage. They should just bring back SLS as CBN governor and get a solid minister of Finance.

Nigeria's last good government is obj own. The rest no know wetin to do, after all d mouth making. From buhari to tilimpoo. Very and totally irres6 and useless
Oh so you agree about that. I keep rolling my eyes how Yaraduas government got that crown. Tinubu will do as good a job as Obasanjo in resetting the country on the right path.

I like the fact that he implemented SLS and Okonjo Iwealas recomendations for subsidy removal and combining the exchange rates in his first week as president. Its a good sign he is listening to real economists.

He is a politician unlike OBJ though. OBJ led with brute force and eliminating his enemies in the SW (Bola Ige), eliminating threats in Maiduguri (Boko Haram leader) and eliminating dissent in the south south (Clearing Odi). Tinubu is more into schmoozing people to get things done.
PoliticsTinubu: We Will Review Minimum Wage To Reflect Current Realities (video) by leanonme82(op):
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his administration’s readiness to review the present N30,000 minimum wage to be in tandem with current global realities.

According to him, improved livelihood for Nigerians remains a top priority of his government, with more people-focused economic policies, assuring that the national minimum wage needs a review to reflect realities.

The President, who received members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) led by the Chairman, Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, at the State House, Abuja on Friday, said the national and sub-national governments will work together on the minimum wage, which already requires “soul searching.’’

Watch Video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8smjIgHSS8c

He said: “We need to do some arithmetic and soul searching on the minimum wage. We will have to take a look at that together, and the revenue. We must strengthen the source and application of our revenue.’’

President Tinubu urged the governors to seize the opportunity of being chosen among millions of citizens in their states to make a difference in the lives of people, adding that he will work for the benefit of Nigerians.

According to him: “This meeting is not strange to me, and the content of the meeting is so valuable. The camaraderie is very stimulating. This is about the Nigerian project, not Bola Tinubu”.

“As progressives and thinkers under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC), you have a role to play in educating our people and making sure we manage ourselves,’’ the President told the governors.

President Tinubu said it was a good and encouraging sign that the APC has a majority in the National Assembly and some Houses of Assembly, which will make it easier to develop policies that will directly impact the economy and the people.

“If we work together, the Nigeria of our dreams is not far away. Rest assured that we will not have multiple exchange rates anymore. You asked for this meeting, and I had to set aside time to be here.

“We have a political party that we will need to manage, whichever way, we have inherited assets and liabilities, and we cannot complain,’’ he stated.

The President said he would maintain an open-door policy, willing to entertain issues, deliberate, and collectively find solutions to the challenges facing the country, including security.

“It is in our hands, and I am ready to work and listen at any time,’’ he added.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, on his remarks, called on the governors to rally around the President as he tackles the challenges that stagnate the economy, like the oil subsidy and multiple exchange rates.

“Let us rally around the President and not bulge, there are vested interests that may want to resist the subsidy removal. Its removal will free resources for the development of your states,” he added.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting with the President, Chairman of the PGF, Governor Uzodinma, called on Nigerians to rally behind the government’s decision to remove the subsidy.

According to him, subsidy was no longer sustainable as the country had been having to borrow money to pay for it, and that the National Economic Council (NEC) had already voted against it.

“We already agreed as a government and in the National Economic Council that subsidizing petroleum products is no longer sustainable because for the past two years, we have been borrowing to subsidize and in various meetings I, for instance, have asked questions, who are the exact beneficiaries of this subsidy and I’m sure you, from the media, may not know exactly who the exact beneficiaries and there’s none of us here who can vouch for the integrity of implementation programmes of the petroleum subsidy allocation.

According to him: “It has gotten to a point that it is either that, which is no longer sustainable, is managed or there will be no Nigeria and all of us are committed to the success and unity of the country and the last appropriation, which is law, made provision for subsidy up till June. The President, who has just been sworn-in few days ago, has not prepared any budget, and he’s under oath to respect the laws of the land and one of these laws is 2023 Appropriations Acts.

“So by June this year, it is very clear that there is no provision for any money to be used to subsidize petroleum product. What he did from the address, because I went home two days, took that address, went through that address and saw that what the President mentioned passively was petroleum subsidy is no longer fashionable and cannot be sustained and we, members of National Economic Council, chaired by former Vice President Osinbajo, agreed also to the extent that the former government had concluded arrangements to take loan from the World Bank, that will be used as palliative to be sent to the people of Nigeria, as a measure to cushion the harsh weather or inconveniences of the complete removal of the subsidy by government.

“So it is not new and I want you people to help this situation because collectively, only by working together, we can save the country. I thought that what we should be saying now is, in the absence of subsidizing petroleum products, how are we going to make this product available to Nigerians to use”.

DeLaRue:
Fuel subsidy must go in June.

Mr Sanusi did not say the government should merge the official and black market rates.

The government can't merge official and black market rates. It's not possible since the government has no direct control over the black market.

People don't appear to understand that the government operates 2 official rates. Those are the ones the new govt can and will merge. The rates will be merged and the naira will be devalued during the next few months so that the official rate will be around N670 - N700.

Black market will still exist, but if we are able to grow the economy and our foreign reserve significantly, the difference between the official and black market rates will reduce to N10 or less.
The two official rates have now been merged.
PoliticsI Have No Doubt Tinubu Will Perform – Oba Of Benin by leanonme82(op): 11:32am On Jun 02, 2023
The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has said he has no doubt that President Bola Tinubu will perform excellently as the country’s helmsman, given his antecedent.

The Oba made the declaration on Thursday in a congratulatory message to Tinubu, which he signed on behalf of Royal Court of Benin, Benin Royal family and the people of Edo State.

He called on the President to give priority to youth development, while praying that God and the ancestors would back the President to deliver on his mandate.

“Your swearing-in as the 16th President of this great country was a result of the fulfilment of destiny, the people’s will and, the wish of God Almighty who made it possible (for you) to assume the mantle of leadership.

“From your antecedent, we have no doubt that you will excel in this position and fulfil your mandate to Nigerians. We, however, plead with Your Excellency to give more priority to youth development in this country,” the monarch said.

Na still corruption be this anyways.
He explained it very well on AriseTV, this short article doesnt. He said the cost of freight will be gone and its about N3 on the litre and wont be a significant difference on pump price. He said dt what local refining will do over time is drive costs down across the whole west africa since there will be more efficiency in the system and production costs usually come down with efficiency.

Continue to defend ineptive and nonsense , what does it cost government to build ten modular refineries before removed the so call subsdy if it exist.
Build refineries? We are surrounded by countries that have no single refinery or crude oil. They only import fuel and sell products at 5oo per liter. The refinery will only make our own costs cheaper than our surrounding countries.

I am actually happy the subsidy removal was announced abruptly. The marketers should start competing immediately & not waiting for riots to bail them. No company should be able to sit down and just get $1billion alert from government as subsidy, even before selling any product.
The new budget should use that money for free education or reduce costs for normal nigerians by reducing farmers costs or sthn so foodstuff doesnt get too high.

GEJ was right. Everyone dt resisted it till the subsidy got this big was wrong.

Buhari removed subsidy. House of Assembly has signed the budget and it is not in Junes budget. It is not going to get paid.

Tinubu reiterated that it's gone. The marketers are aware, since last year. National assembly will have to sign a new budget if we want it back.

Don't make excuses for thieves creating an artificial scarcity for greed. Nothing is stopping them from selling today and carry on selling everyday till the price goes up. They must be forced to sell. Availability matters, no matter the price.

PS - Subsidy is a socialist/communist policy. Capitalism is market forces setting price.

The Edo State Government has warned petrol dealers against hoarding of petroleum products, with a view to creating artificial scarcity and hiking of prices of the products.

It was reliably gathered that following the pronouncement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the subsidy paid by the federal government on imported petroleum products would cease henceforth, many petrol dealers in the state stopped sales of the product, with a view to hiking prices.

The government, in a statement by Osaigbovo Iyoha, the Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, warned that any petrol station caught hoarding products would lead to revocation of its landed property.

“The attention of Edo State Government has been drawn to the unscrupulous attempt by petrol dealers in the state to hoard fuel and create artificial scarcity and price hike.

“As a responsible government that cares for her citizens, we shall resist this economic sabotage by every legal means possible.

“To this end, all petrol stations are ordered to immediately resume sales of the products to Edo people or risk immediate closure, and possible revocation of their property to enable others who want to do legitimate and respectful business in Edo State come and invest,” the statement said.It added that the government cannot continue to allow extortion of Edo people in whatever guise, warning that “a word is enough for the wise.”

“I have searched the entirety of the record and indeed the judgement of the court below and there is no such finding. To think that learned senior counsel will mislead the court is sad.
