Borini Prono has always led the repairs. 2 done so far. Luvinghubby: Since it's Julius Berger that constructed the bridge, I think they should be the only firm assigned to maintain it. A different firm carried out maintenance during GEJ tenure, now Borini is on coming on board again. Every minister wants his own favoured contractor. Too many cook spoil the soup. SMH |

If Naptu2 doesn't know, nobody knows. What is the Borini Prono angle? They have been invited for the repairs all the times I have known. Could it be that they did the project for JB? Naptu2 falls no hand. naptu2: 1) The bridge was built by Julius Berger. In fact, according to Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson, he had the idea to build this bridge when met with the CEO of Julius Berger while he was on a medical vacation in Germany.
If you drove down the bridge before 1989, you would see a Julius Berger obelisk at the dead end after the Ebute Metta exit.
2) In a way it was a collaboration between the FG and the LASG. The bridge was concieved when Gowon was head of state and Femi Okunu was commissioner (minister) of works. They collaborated with the Lagos State Government of Mobolaji Johnson on the project.
I watched the commissioning of the bridge on the news in 1990. Babangida said that Rasaki disturbed him about the bridge to the extent that he had to tell his secretary that he should not allow Rasaki into his office the next time he visits.
Rasaki gave an interview in which he confirmed that he constantly bothered Babangida because of the bridge. He said that there was a time that the work slowed down and he went to find out why and he was told that there was no money, so he said that the Federal Government should deduct the money from Lagos State's federal allocation.
3) The bridge is linked to the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Oworonshoki.
Note: Only the section of thr bridge between Ebute Metta and Oworonshoki was renamed IBB Bridge. It was renamed in 1991 when the Federal Government was moving to Abuja. |

Naptu2 , Explorers, Please confirm some of the information in this post. That Julius Berger constructed the bridge. Certainly, they had a lot to do with it, but what about Borini Prono? Was the major repair works not in 08/09? The 2013 if it happened, apparently, wasn't major. Can we say the bridge was a collaboration between the FG and LASG? We also cannot day it is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi expressway, can we? AutoJoshNIG: https://i1.wp.com/autojosh.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Third-Mainland-Bridge-2.jpg?w=600&ssl=1
1. The Third-Mainland Bridge is one of the three bridges linking Lagos Island to the mainland.
2. It was named Third-Mainland Bridge because it is the third of the three bridges that connects Lagos Island with the Mainland – the other two being the Eko and Carter Bridges.
3. The Third-Mainland Bridge is the longest of the three bridges.
4. The Third-Mainland bridge starts from Oworonshoki which is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi expressway and Lagos-Ibadan expressway, and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island.
5. The completion of the abandoned Third-Mainland Bridge was a collaborative effort of the Gen. Babangida-led Federal government and the Raji-Rasaki-led Lagos state government.
6. Renowned engineering firm, Julius Berger, constructed the Third-Mainland Bridge.
7. The then Nigerian Head-of-State, General Ibrahim Babangida, commissioned the Bridge on his birthday – 17th August 1990.
https://i1.wp.com/autojosh.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Third-Mainland-Bridge-4.jpg?w=600&ssl=1
8. The Third-Mainland Bridge has a total length of 11.8 km.
9. The Third-Mainland Bridge was the longest bridge in Africa until 1996 when the 20.5 km long “6th October Bridge” located in Cairo, Egypt was completed in 1996.
10. The Third-Mainland Bridge is the longest Bridge longest in West Africa.
11. The official name of the bridge is “Ibrahim Babangida Bridge”. However, the bridge is rarely called by that name.
12. The Third-Mainland Bridge is an eight-lane bridge.
13. The Bridge offers breath-taking views of the Lagos Lagoon, the University of Lagos Waterfront and Makoko, a shanty town built on the Lagos Lagoon.
14. Less than N1Billion naira was spent by the Babangida administration to complete the Third Mainland Bridge after the abandoned project was restarted.
15. In 2013, 1.05billion was spent on repair works on the Third Mainland Bridge and additional works on the bridge’s expansion joints.

Naughtysite: I am not making an excuse for myself. Defeatist ? Don't make comments when you don't know people. I am referring to generality of Nigerians. I am talking of reality on ground. How can you judge 100million young people with just one successful online business among 10,000 failed ones ? You are not being realistic. This is a discussion board, comments opposing your views do not necessarily imply a disapproval on your person, you did not have to respond with a defence for yourself. That said I was also talking of reality on ground. That I gave an example of only Paystack doesn't mean it is the only successful business. Search around you for information about Nairaland, Nairabet, Linda Ikeji Blog etc. Not every one that grew in the era of OUK was successful, hence, his success may not necessarily be related to his era. Cosmos Maduka (Coscharis) grew under an extremely disadvantaged position, yet, he became successful. This is the reality on ground. Students fail exams (no risk), I therefore see no reason not to expect that businesses(with risks) would fail. Naughtysite: Have you opened your own web based business let us see ? Haystack shit when you have over 10,000 other failed ones and young people Hawking Adsense and Bitcoin on nairaland. Is that what youths should be doing ? All business models would not be web based. Paystack not Haystack. Hawking Adsense and Bitcoin is a choice they made, they are never the only way out. Naughtysite: Everyday EFCC arrests Yahoo boys and this week we started hearing of Yahoo girls too. Is that where you are talking of defeatist mentality? At least I was in business when.the going was good and I can identify how bad the going is right now when profits have plunged, opportunities are scarce and you are talking of defeatist when you should be talking of VOTING visionary leadership into power to return the economy to the path of growth? "Yahoo boys/girls" is an act of crime and should be so punished accordingly. |

Defeatist mentality. Founders of Paystack.com started it in their 20's. They are a big threat to an aspect of Interswitch's business today. They are on their way to making money. Naughtysite: Yes, having good business tutelage at a young age can make someone extremely rich early in life in a growing economy filled with opportunities.
The opportunities are not here as we speak any more so I don't blame the present crop of young Nigerians.
You cannot take something that is not there. |

Fashola replied that all these PPP people do not have money, but they insisted that it should be done by PPP.
The project was never done and Hamzat said that they regret opposing Fashola. He said that it would have been easier to expand the bridge back then because there were fewer houses there then. |

MisinformationFAAN is not NUATE. NUATE called for strike not FAAN. FAAN is a parastatal NUATE is a labour union. Richmmbm: Anyone who has plans of travelling around and out of the country might be unable to do so come Tuesday, November 6th as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has declared its intention to join in the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress over FG's refusal to meet its minimum wage demand.
Talks on a new wage have reached deadlock after state governors said they couldn't guarantee the payment of N30,000 wage to workers. A court had ruled on Friday that the strike be cancelled, as it would jeopardize citizens' livelihood. But the NLC insists it is well within the ambit of the law to embark on the strike.
FAAN said in a statement it was standing with the labour union, and will shut down operations in compliance with the nationwide strike.
"All airlines operating in/out of Nigeria Airports shall be affected by this industrial action. We appeal to your good sense of understanding in this regard," the organisation said in a bulletin to its workers.

Don't miscontrue my reaction to mean I'm an Atiku supporter.
Generating 50,000 jobs is not the same as employing 50,000 people.
Dangote has 30,000 employees according to you. If the firm has 1,000 distributors and each distributor has 5 employees, that's additional 5,000 jobs. If each distributor has 100 retailers in their portfolio and each retailer has 2 employees, that's an additional 200 thousand jobs.
You look at the value chain in determining how much jobs have been generated. If you bring in 1,000 trucks today for logistics, you'd have 1,000 drivers, 1,000 motor boys and perhaps 50 mechanics.
Hope there's an understanding of how 50,000 jobs can happen. |
