Forcing people back home will only increase unemployment levels and raise poverty percentage band.

The country with its weak currency has got all kinds of potentials to rival with economies of the rest of the BRIC nations if and if it could improve on its exporting activities besides selling petroleum product, cocoa and rubber to the rest of the world.
sure, Nigeria do not manufacture anything. our main source of living is the currency been sent from aboard by , bringing everybody home means no other means of foreign exchange except oil

Well, maybe we should do what Indonesia did.
Appoint a dictator, let him rule for 40 years, and let him make a decree forcing all Nigerians abroad to return to their country.
Dictatorship, not 'democracy' is the fastest way to develop a country in this modern era. Just look and India and China, and you'll see the stark difference.
in fact the word dictator is the last thing i will like 2 hear. we had our own dictator in person of abacha, but that did not change things. see fashola, a civilian ruler, see what he has turned lagos to. what is required is a leader with a vision and a mission.

You should know better than   to post outlandish claims without any links. I am aware that the minimum requirement to be a teacher in a Lagos State secondary school is NCE or Bachelor of Education. So presumably they should have gone through all the necessary tests BEFORE they were recruited.

By the way have we now diverted from discussing the extent to which Nigerian university graduates are able to compete with their counterparts abroad as per top level research to lambasting teacher training and recruitment?? In other words the same hackneyed immature, irresponsible tactic of blaming the "system" .
well, this is not a recruitment exercise, it is an assessment exercise 4 teachers who are still in active service.

the disgraceful saga which occurs in kwara state when all the teachers( except for about 20) fail a pry four english and maths exam in the recent past is still in our memory. for this reason, the Lagos state govt decided to do a similar test 4 its teachers last week Friday at Wesley girls secondary school at yaba to ascertain the qualities of its teachers. the exam was conducted by WAEC.

well to summarized it all, it is the amount of input an individual put into something that produces output. inventions can only com if individuals, organsation, or the govt puts in a lot in terms of research, training,
as 4 nigeria, these things are not happening. thus, garbage in, garbage out.

what really is the benefit of education to Nigerians? good qxn.
I think the basis of this is to analyze how education has been of benefit to Nigeria.arent most of our politicians educated?
There are also lots of naija in the diaspora receiving quality education, how has it impacted on Nigeria?
Education does not only take place in classrooms it takes place everywhere.
Producing great thinkers like you are clamouring for does not necessarily come from sitting in harvard classrooms and reading books although i must admit it has its benefits.
Our problems in naija may not be to be using iphones, latest internet technology e.t.c the thinkers will be thinking of how to meet the needs they see everyday.e.g how to patch tire and sell that technology afterall it is technology and it has met a need.To a large extent the environment determines the product.
good talk

kobojunkie,

, If Einstein, Steve jobs or Bill Gates had gone to some of the primary and secondary schools that we went to, its arguable that we would have ever had about them. Maybe they would have been "local champions" (JET scholars) grin rather than world beaters. ,
good talk, just this afternoon, i was in a deep taught about this subject. just yesterday, i was in a secondary school discussing with the teachers. believe me, many of them are lamenting about their profession. they see it as a slavery and regretted ever chosen such a proffesion at the first instance. these are meant to be people who mold the future of our children. it shows that their future is ruined just before they have the chance of trying. Nigeria will never develop and will not develop unless some critical factors take shape

All of us Nigerians of today, with our Western appetite to life? Let's get real. Can we even work with our hands? Are we not waiting for Mr Government to show up and do everything?

By the way, OP, wasn't it you and some other chaps some months back singing the high praises of an Ivy League MBA? Now you are back to science? What happened?[/quote]well, literature is very important to a society, as well as music , art, just to mention a few. the world is not just about science and, at least many of you watch plays and films. is that not literature?

Don't mind them jare, instead of playing, there fellow students in China are studying like there lives depended on it. In Japan and in the USA right from primary school, students are giving science projects to do. They are told to build or to create something, this brings out the creative attributes in them. ,
that is where our problem lies. our educational system is not tailored towards understanding subject matters. say 4 students trying to design school radio. all the theories are meant to explain to the student how the radio works rather than the abstract calculations just inscribe on the board 4 a student 2 get marks. we have not stared experimenting with our own tech, how much more perfecting it. the 6/3/3/4 system which was designed by the visionaries became a big white elephant project.
Politics › Re: What's The Benefit Of Education To Nigeria by lekside44(m): 10:44am On Sep 14, 2010
well, this has been what i have been advocating 4 a very long time. well, the problem is really a complex one.
first of all, many Nigerians are very brilliant and are full of ideas, but the country educational system i s not design as an innovative one. rather, it is a copy and pasting thing. try to pass exam is the logo rather than understanding the working principle of the subjects at hand. in my university days, i do read a lot of materials outside what the lecturer gives to broaden my knowledge and understanding of my discipline, but my friends warned me that what matters at that stage is passing exams and getting a good grade 4 a good job. life after school did not permit me to continue my learning process most especially if you are working in an environment which is different from your choice of study.

many of the public schools are nothing but junks with junk teachers impacting garbage to the students. this is because those that knows never wanted to be a teacher because of the salary, many who do not meet up takes the job and ruins up a generations of students.
many of the private school are nothing but a high caliber social gathering places rather than a centre of academic learning. these schools might have a nice enviroments, with air conditional classrooms and cable tv, but what effect is it to say teaching newtons equ. 4 example the Lebanese community school at yaba. mthe studeny spend at least 3 to 4 hours each day playing basket ball rather than reading. the sch enviroment is ok, but how effective is the teaching and learning?

My company is working on introducing a contract design and manufacturing service in Nigeria
The aim is to make it easier to produce electronics-based products in Nigeria. Initial emphasis is local design and assembly. while manufacturing will be handled by our partners in china.

we hope to do more and more of the manufacturing locally as we transfer the manufacturing know-how to Nigerian companies and as it becomes more economical to do so.

We are interested in working with other engineers locally in product design and development. if they're willing to work on a profit sharing arrangement.
business men and traders are also welcome as we are able to not only get them their desired products, but also get the underlying technology thereby giving them independence and the flexibility to innovate and cut costs.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EDUCATION AND LEARNING.
IN NIGERIA, WE LOOK FOR EDUCATED PEOPLE WHO MAY NOT HAVE ACTUALLY LEARNED, AND THAT IS ONE OF THE REASONS WE HAVE EDUCATED ILLITERATES IN SENSITIVE POSTS AND POSITIONS IN NIGERIA CONTROLLING THE HELMS OF AFFAIRS OF THE NIGERIA STATE AND ECONOMY.
i support you. there is a real difference btw reading and learning. many Nigerians are even going to sch to acquire cert and not really learning the trade. well, as 4 me, i think i have made a mistake after all. many of you here are complaining of having a 1000 books, but i have tens of thousand of books. i can boost that i have books even more than the national library of nigeria.
i do not just stock pile books from all subjects, but from a few areas of computer and eng. i had undertaking a project to write a software for engineers need. with my experience in the industry, i saw a need 4 such. actually, my projects has not been able to materialized due to few technical aspect and funds. i had spent over a million in acquisition of materials, but as you know, , the economy of nigeria is not so much encouraging for unnecessary developmental program. you have got other things crying 4 money.
