Magnifico2000:Tell 'em HD or SuperHD it's all the same This episode is dark and full of terrors. But now that we're through with Walking Dead and we're back to Game of Thrones, do you see Dany losing her faithful advisor as a big setback. Can she and Sansa finally be on the same page?

The sudden NK death was pretty anticlimactic. I still like the fact that he was killed by a Stark. Snow would have been my preferred choice but that would have been too predictable. Even if he died at the hands of a Northerner or a Watchman would have been okay too.(Just few people fit this category, I know) Please, what's with this attitude of telling people to make their flicks just because they criticized how things played out? I don't still understand why opinions of redditors should come first before ours. I thought everyone was entitled to an opinion on this forum. |
It's all fun and games before the NK attacks.
Lyanna Mormont's expression though...

Varys:Royce lol. Sometimes I forget about that man. When last was he given a real scene or lines for that matter? I'm alright if Tyrion and Dany survive. They are the only ones I've rooted for from Day 1. |
Endy10:Suit yourself. It's pointless arguing with you. I daresay we've bored others here with this back-and-forth. |
Endy10:Since you wish to analyze how they died let's go there. Ned died at the hands of his daughter's fiance. The same fiance he tried to steal his kingdom. He confessed to the whole Kings Landing. By whole, I mean the high and low. The who'res, the thieves, the lords. Everybody. He was executed in the presence of his two daughters. After his death, his head was put on display for anyone and everyone to jeer at. The details of Tywin's death are sketchy at best to the common people. All they know is that he was murdered by his 'Demon Monkey Son'. |
Endy10:Such fixed mindset is the reason I don't really bother arguing online. I've given the reasons why at their death, Tywin was held in higher esteem to Ned. I've also said that Tywin was more politically astute than Ned. When it comes to personality, Ned was head and shoulders a better man (this is not even up for discussion). You're always free to agree to disagree. |
HenryDion:No. It wasn't ambiguous. He chose not to understand. I gave context when I used the word twice. |
Endy10:How were both buried? Who honored their burials? Ned died a self confessed traitor. Tywin died fresh off saving Kings Landing from the hands of Ned's 'co-conspirator' Stannis. That's how most Westerosi remembered them. There's also there is the small matter of Ned fathering a 'bastard' while Tywin had none. Tywin never even tolerated whores. We know the last line is a lie but sadly that was the reputation both ended with. |
kay9:Remember that Ned was actually against the attempted assassination of the Daenerys. Even the Drunk King knew that was necessary. Unknown to him, she was nursing a vendetta against House Stark. "The Usurper and the Lannister and the Stark dogs" as she put it. When you want to overthrow a great House, you do it completely, unless it comes back to haunt you (ask Houses Bolton and Frey) . Ned failed to understand the cutthroat nature of Westerosi politics. In the books, he admitted on many occasions that he was out of his depth in King's Landing. |
Endy10:I'm guessing you didn't see the honor was in quotation marks. Or don't you know what the quotation marks denotes? |
meforkene:They went shopping. ![]()

Gbola5:The only people fighting for the Ned's children are the Northerners (and not even all of them) . Many Westerosi view Ned Stark as an usurper (he confessed to that). He died without 'honor'. We like the Starks because we know the 'behind the scenes', the characters do not. Only the few who managed to connect the dots are reluctantly changing their POV. Tywin on the other hand died with 'honor'. He was killed by his dwarf son who had already killed the king. The people who rejoiced at his death were those who stood to gain from a weakened House Lannister . They (eg Tyrells) knew that Kevan and Cersei couldn't fill the void. We know the truth behind all this but once again the characters do not. GoT mirrors real life. Those politicians we view as bad may actually be the good ones. |
dubylhover:Far deeper. Too many storylines and back stories. So much plotting and scheming by characters, I've lost count. Even folktales told by characters have their hidden meanings and puzzles. The material is dense. I feel that is GRRM's undoing. For example the 'show Sansa storyline' is separated into Sansa/Alayne and Jeyne Poole storylines. The showrunners managed to condense it all, if not there would have been like 10 seasons just to meet up book 5. It would be difficult for GRRM to tie all the storylines together, hence the delay in releasing books 6&7. It will be interesting to see how he does it. |
Fadedvoices2:Oberyn was a Dornish Prince, Doran was The Dornish Prince (yes, the Dornish were weird that way). Oberyn wanted to lead a rebellion immediately his sister was murdered but he was stopped by his brother, Doran who held the power. The Dornish saw Doran as a weakling for it. Unknown to most, Doran has his long revenge plan(book Doran that is). Show Doran is simply a weakling. |
raumdeuter:Rallying a Dornish Rebellion not reason enough? If she survived, it would have been she and Oberyn rousing the Dornish against the wishes of the Dornish Prince. Rather than Oberyn alone. They would in turn rally behind the Beggar King, Viserys III. Any discontented House joins too. What does that spell for King Bobby B and his Lannister Alliance? |
raumdeuter:You're basically butressing what I've said before. Tywin didn't care about Tyrion so Joffery taunting him does not count as much. If that was Jaime or Lord Kevan's son it would have been different. Can you name one excess from Joffery that happened after Tywin came to KL that does not involve Tyrion? In case you didn't notice, nobody likes Tyrion. Not the the elites, not the masses. Some feel pity but nobody likes him. So I don't know who you expected to interfere. Proof? Remember that "Demon Monkey" speech in the streets or that Braavosi play Arya witnessed. It's we fans that like him(I should be like number one on that list). About the death of Elia Martell and her kids, Tywin did the necessary evil. He underestimated the brutality of the Mountain (I think he admitted that) About pillaging the Riverlands, that was solely on Catelyn's head. How do you hold Tyrion prisoner without proof? But yeah, Tywin took things too far. |
raumdeuter:Lord Tywin kept Joffery in check. Or where you expecting him to murder that mad boy? Tyrion failed to do that when Tywin made him acting Hand. He saw Joffery's death as a pretext to get rid of Tyrion. Even Cersei knew the truth, but the opportunity was to good to pass up. About the glory hunting part, no. The Lannisters would still have lost if Tywin and the Tyrells didn't come to the rescue. Remember when Cersei tried to kill Tommen and herself when she thought they lost? True, Tyrion helped but so did Tywin and the Tyrells. |
Funaki:Ned Stark would die ten times in eleven different instances in Kings Landing (in that one exception, he's sent to the Wall). His type wasn't made for politics. Same as Jon Snow. |
kay9:Tywin was basically the most astute person on the show. I scratched my head when Arya made that her "smartest ever" comment cos she has met the man. He returned pride to their family name and always protected their interests. ("The Lion does not concern itself with the opinion of the sheep" I remember how he blocked the Tyrell plan to rule the North. Who do you think backed the Boltons and Freys in their coup against the Dumb Wolf? The only ish was his hatred for his dwarf son. That proved to be his undoing. In the books, it's implied Tyrion is a Targ bastard of the Mad King. Completing the top four cleverest for me are Tyrion, Baelish and Olenna. Charles Dance played the Tywin character to a T. |
armadeo:If not for Jon Arryn, I would have said that the Eyrie are cursed with childish, little lords. Could it be because they have their heads in the clouds? (pun intended) Imagine selling your kingdom not for a dragon but a dragonride. |
Kaycee7:They feminized franchises like Ghostbusters and Ocean's Eleven, creating all-feminine casts. Didn't really work out the way they hoped. Thing is, when they feminize a movie, they do it just for the sake of playing to the gallery. Instead of feminizing a franchise, why don't they build one from scratch? I wonder why people are kicking against the idea of a 'Gay Bond'. Once the producers incur the Loss of the Century, I think their heads will cool down. |
meforkene:I think the witch's prophecy remains valid until Cersei actually gives birth i.e she may lose the pregnancy. If indeed there is no baby, it won't be the first time she fooled Jaime |
Only Patrick Star can go from Möron to Genius in one breath.
|
oyetpel:You sure? Yeah she stopped trusting Baelish after LF MANIPULATED her to marry the Psycho Hobbit. She and Arya saw through his plans because of Bran (although this is implied rather than shown). Baelish is one of the cleverest on the books or show. It's a shame they gave him such a weak, meaningless death. |
nani6666:What is dead may never die What is cut may never grow |
nani6666:He can always take a leaf from Grey Worm's guidebook. ![]() |
Sasquatch:Nice story though
|
Seun:Those are single combats. I don't think she's led any army before. This would be a trial by fire (or should I say winter?). |
meforkene:This is the mentality I've adopted that mentality for myself for any foreign franchise. |
TheKingIsHere:Movies/series adjust their themes to be socially and politically correct. If you re-watch an early 2000s movie, you'll see them mocking homosexuals. It will be suicide for any movie to try it now. Even earlier than that, movies used to have white supremacist themes. But now, if you cast a white guy in a role suited for an Asian , your movie will be poorly received e.g Dragonball Evolution, Noah's Ark and The Last Airbender. Early GoT seasons were criticised for gratuitous nudity and marginalization of women. If you notice, both have been toned down as the seasons went by. No critic actually cares that both themes were very common in Medieval Times (which GoT is loosely based on). Like one poster rightly said all feminine characters of Power (bar Sansa IMO) were slowly built up to where they are today. But the showrunners now want to ruin the plausibility of the show by making some hitherto clever characters act like buffoons and vice versa so they can be politically correct. JK Rowling made that mistake by whipping out from nowhere, the fact that Dumbledore was gay. She's still recovering from that backlash. What I'm saying is: it's good to see the feminine characters stand up get counted but the male characters shouldn't suffer for it. |

I remember how he blocked the Tyrell plan to rule the North. Who do you think backed the Boltons and Freys in their coup against the Dumb Wolf?
