Olanlere11: Pastor Tunde Bakare in his most recent teaching attributed Nigeria's problems to the fact that we have a poor man in power. In a series of declamations, Mr. Bakare asserted, “When the shoeless takes over, he does clueless things. When such men of low estate find themselves in power, terrible things begin to happen.” He added, “It is the timidity of the inferior that prods them to cover up. Deep rivers flow in silence.
If Bakare's teaching is anything to go by, what then is the fate of an average Nigerian, who has taken up education to change his social status? Is leadership an exclusive reserve of the rich? Is the prevailing insecurity orchestrated by the rich to humiliate the poor? Is it fair that a man of God who is suppose to preach equality now makes distinction between the rich and poor? Politics40 Laptops Campaign Squad Under Presure by LFJ(op): 9:12pm On Jul 24, 2012
Our Dear Friend on Nairaland,
We are here to appeal to our friends on Nairaland to show understanding with us. Ever since when one of the greatest enemies of oga reveal our activities on the Internet to the general public things have not been easy with our group. We have been under pressure to boost oga image and save him from daily embarrassment arising from his incapability. We always agree with your position that image can only be built on integrity which is clear to our group that oga lack. Apart from the official 40 laptops member, we have sympathizers group; this group is not officially commission. They don’t get pay like us, but they want oga to be there dead or alive because they believe that this is the turn of their people. The other groups are the sons and daughters of Nigeria politicians who their parents are getting the benefit from oga.
Since the beginning of this task, we cannot claim ignorance of effort of smart people on Nairaland and Sahara reporters. These are people who we started the race together to raise our voice against bad government before we sold our mind to the devil. Even though, we smile to the bank on a regular basis our mind is heavy, and our conscience is no longer at ease. But what can we do, we need to survive, we need to belong, our families need food, and this is what is presently available.
Our performance are evaluated based on the number of post we make in a day, the number of oga enemy we can destroy their image and how brilliant our ideal to cover up lie of government that is exposed. This is not an easy job, our work goal is very clear; it is absolute loyalty to oga and madam. It is never in doubt that oga and madam are an embarrassment to Nigeria. The more we try to get out of one mess the more oga and madam bring in more embarrassment to us. Madam in the recent time is even making things difficult for the group based on the simple reason that oga is not man enough to tell madam to stop running her mouth in the public. We know oga lack the leadership quality to take Nigeria to the promising land, but that is where our food is coming from.
Our friends on nairaland, we share in your pains; we appreciate your position, and we are convinced that all your angers against oga jona are justified. We fought Abacha and all the previous bad government together before we sold our conscience to the devil. We know, after this assignment our voice will be dead; nobody will take us serious on important national issue again. Those who align with Abacha yesterday are now history; our case may not be an exception. We pray that after this assignment, we will still find favor with God, and the poor masses of Nigeria.

The battle for the future is becoming more challenging for the current youth. The young derived their strength from the old; what is now the fate of the young when the old is empty? When I listen to the current set of our leaders, I feel ashamed of given them the honor of a leader. These are the people that benefited from the wisdom of great minds like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe and Tafa Balewa. DeboAdejugbe,it must be observe has social accounts in twitter, facebook and my space, with different pictures and barely two European friends. This discovery goes forth to reveal that not only is Adejugbe non-existent, the work is also part of El rufai’s litanies of strategies aimed at plunging the country into anarchy, possibly a civil or religious war and ultimately the division of the country.
Understandably,Nigeria is yet to arrive at our desired destination, but can we be justified in regarding Nigeria as a failed state just after 52years of independence? While admitting that we are yet to become our desired nation, we should not forget that the present administration is committed to uplifting the image of the country and make available to Nigerians the dividends of democracy. This can be clearly seen in his transformation agenda targeted towards the realization of the vision 2020.
Regrettably, the effortsof the president has been constantly challenged by subversive elements who do not want us to grow, and the president to succeed. They query the system that brought him just because power has slipped to the younger generation. They have constantly criticized the government and instigated violence in some parts of the country just to distract and frustrate this government.Nigerians who have the interest this country at heart must rise up to the occasion and challenge these enemies.
El rufai has on social media constantly criticized the government without offering solutions. He has through the back door supported terrorism (remember his position against the demolition of houses used as bomb factory by boko haram). His aim may not be unconnected with the decision of the government to probe and expose him. As a religious fundamentalist, he also vowed to ensure that Islam becomes a general religion, against the freedom of worship as enshrined in the constitution.
The US we admire today didn’t get there through violence. We must support Nigeria by ending violence. There can be no development in an atmosphere of insecurity.

LocalChamp: We will expose corrupt senators – Mark
On July 8, 2012 · In News 12:50 amEmail1

By HENRY UMORU

SENATE President David Mark has vowed to expose corrupt senators and those engaged in acts capable of tarnishing the image of the National Assembly.

Mark stressed that no amount of blackmail will deter the institution from carrying out its oversight functions. He, however, cautioned members of the public against compromising lawmakers in the discharge of their duties, stressing that the National Assembly will continue to clear itself in its strong determination to meet the expectations of the electorate.

Speaking at the National Assembly-Private Sector Forum organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Lagos, the Senate president noted that allegation of corruption against the National Assembly was exaggerated.

According to him, “There are those who say that the National Assembly takes the bunch of the budget. This is very ridiculous. I know that what goes to the National Assembly is not more than 2.5% of the total budget. The National Assembly members are always accused of corruption but Nigerians ,to a large extent ,are responsible for this alleged corruption.

”If a businessman gives a bribe to a lawmaker, is it only the lawmaker that is corrupt? If the business man didn’t offer the bribe, the lawmaker will not accept. But the question remains: Why did he accept it? If our National Assembly members are found wanting, we will discipline them.

“We will clean our house to earn the respect of those that elected us into our respective offices. We will continue to clean our house and those who bring us to shame will get their punishment accordingly.”

Stressing that the legislature as an arm of government is on a steady growth and improving by each legislative day, Mark recalled that the level of rancour that characterized the legislative houses between 1999 and 2003 has been reduced.

“We would continue to improve on legislative business until we attain a level where the average Nigerian will be satisfied with our performance”, he said.

CareerRe: HND Accountancy Vs BSc Accounting by LFJ: 1:54am On Jul 08, 2012
gaskydudu: 1. What you have said is your assumption, not the generally accepted and empirically tested one with regards to ACCA. What justification do you have about the quality of the courses? As a qualified accountant in ACCA you are recognised in ICAN but not the other way round. Isn't that enough? I never compared the quality of the course but the method...and what hasn't quality to do with the international outlook..C'mon!

2. 'Before 2010, a few people gained admission with 4 credit...' The fact people gained with less qualifications is still given. Two years ago is too short to even compare the standards. It will take a longer while for the entry standard to be accepted socially.

3. My initial contribution used the general average comparison between poltechnics and universities. Please note that cos there could be wide variances. However, education is NOT only about reading and doing your courseworks, the quality and experience which are shared from lecturers come in, the learning environment and the brand. How many professors do u have in an average good university to a polytechnic? Those things count. Have you ever considered a BSc in OAU or Havard? Or better still, a mushroom uni in the US against Havard? Yeah they practically teach the same thing but different methods cos of the quality and experience of their teachers.

4. I know this issue is quite emotional/controversial, but in my opinion the AVERAGE university graduate has more opportunities than a polytechnic graduate. With regards to exposure, I have worked with enough of them for over a decade to justify my assumption. I have also come across very smart ones, no doubt about that, but my assumption is on the AVERAGE.

5. If you feel so strongly about polytechnics, why don't you let your sibblings or kids (if you have) attend?
What I said is no doubt my personal assumption based on personal experience. I maintain my position that the quality of ACCA syllabus is not in any way better than that of ICAN. I experienced both exams, and I know what it takes to pass both exams. Yes, as a qualified accountant in ACCA you are recognized in ICAN, not because one is better but because most of the founding fathers of ICAN were ACCA and CPA qualified, so when ICAN was formed, that clause was inserted. As I said, ACCA is not in any way better than ICAN in terms of quality of the syllabus, though there is no doubt that ACCA command respect than ICAN because of the UK status in the world. Almost all countries of the world have their accounting body, and it is for their country unless there is understanding between the two countries to give automatic status to each other country members when they cross over e.g. USA, Canada and Columbia.

I think you need to get something right so that you will not be engulf by sentiment. As far back as 90s, many polytechnics will not admit you without 5 credits Maths and Eng inclusive, and at that time we have some Universities that accept 4 credits too. Both institutions have pre ND and Remedial that accept people with less required credit. The issue between both institutions is not about requirements; it is about our failed systems that don’t even know the reason why they have both institutions. Copy and paste from our colonial masters. This is the same system that increases the numbers of years in secondary school from 5 to 6 years without any extra benefit.

Your argument in number 3 is right, if this argument is about HND vs Bsc, but the scope of this argument is limited to HND acctg vs Bsc Acctg. Bsc holders truly have broader knowledge Bsc acctg inclusive, and they are trained as manager of human and material resources. So my argument in favor of HND acctg over Bsc Acctg as related to acctg technicality is perfectly in order, because that is the point of argument.

You are absolutely right with number 4; Average University graduate is better than Polytechnic graduate. The exposure is quite there, and our society equally gave them special honor that placed them higher than poly graduate. As I said, I pass through both system, and I know what is required to succeed in both systems. If you open your mind you will see the point in my argument; it is not based on hear say it is based on experience.

I think your response in no 5 is immature; we are here to learn from each other and not to throw insult.
CareerRe: HND Accountancy Vs BSc Accounting by LFJ:
Uncanny Genius: HND Accountancy Graduates are more experienced than Bsc Accounting graduates because they took part in the 4months Industrial Training after ND1 and 1 year Industrial Training after ND2 before they apply for HND. During that training they acquired working experience while the Bsc holders didn't.
The standard say get a place to do your IT, how many people get a place to do IT, so technically no training.
CareerRe: HND Accountancy Vs BSc Accounting by LFJ: 3:51am On Jul 06, 2012
gaskydudu: Polytechnics and Universities are NOT the same. First of all, entry requirements are different. Polytechnics have lesser qualifications to enter, that's where the stratification starts.

Notwitstanding, there are brilliant Polytechnic graduates, but in general an average Polythenic student has less opportunities and exposure..unfortunately, that's the truth.

Accounting has developed far from the excel thingy, it's now more like facts behind the figures and not just figures; thinking outside the box. In the working world of today, we have Chief Financial Officers(CFOs) who make up a combination of financial reporting, analysis and management.

ACCA realised that, and in their exams they do not just give you an account to balance (for financial reporting courses) but LOTS of financial analysis cos they realised people were just cramming and not understanding required principles;and there were complaints from employers..and that is why ACCA,CIMA,etc is much highly rated than ACA (ICAN).
As at today u need 5 credit to gain admission to both Uni and poly; before 2010 few people gained admission with 4 credit, Maths and English inclusive, majority were with 5 credits. The only occasion you can see people with less than 5 credits and with either no credit in Eng or Maths is when you have people that gained admission through pre ND, and this happen in Uni too with those that came through remedial. ACCA and CIMA are rated higher not because they are better than ICAN in term of quality, but because of their international outlook, so let us forget about the story of this or that analysis.

The reason why we are having this type of debate is because those who establish both institutions don’t even know what they intent to gain from having them. I may not be able to talk about other discipline, but for accounting, I can talk about both institution, the polytechnic students have more understanding of accounting issue than the University students.

You equally talk about exposure, that those in Uni have more exposure than those in Poly, what exposure other than proud to be lecture by professor. May be there is something that is new to me, I am here to learn.
CareerRe: HND Accountancy Vs BSc Accounting by LFJ: 3:05am On Jul 06, 2012
NNBB2012: I think by now Nigeria government should scrap Polytechnic. HND certificate is not recognised in Nigeria and even abroad. I can only think of some schools in SA and UK, that will take HND directly for either Masters or Top-up programmes. So, why are they still running programmes in the Polytechnics? Imagine in Australia, HND graduate in Nigeria is regarded as Technician, not even Technologist. The people regarded as technologist are those that hold B.Tech degrees.

The best thing to do is to run the programme as it is being run in SA; 3yrs of National Diploma and proceed to 2yrs of Bachelor Degree.

Government needs to review the curricullum to meet up with international standards.Even our so-called Universities in Nigeria, I doubt if any of them is among the list of 500 best Universities in the world. Most of our equipment, books and even lecturers are obsolete so to say. They need to be updated. We need to wake up, if we really need to compete with the wolrd.
Don't miss inform ppl, u can do your masters with HND the same way you can use your Bsc to do it in US.
CareerRe: HND Accountancy Vs BSc Accounting by LFJ: 10:10pm On Jul 05, 2012
Jarus: One or two HND students/graduates doing exceptionally well in ICAN exams doesnt validate HND accounting holders being deeper than Bsc holders. It would not have been a talking point if a Bsc Accounting holder or Accounting undegrad does well in ICAN, but it will be if an HND did. That alone tells you something. Within my circle of friends alone in teh university, we have 2 people that won Best Qualifying ICAN candidates, within a space of two years. It's normal, you see these things on daily basis in top universities but if you have one or two from Poly, it becomes a national news headline.

I'm sorry if it sounds rude, but it is not for nothing that polytechnic, at least in Nigeria, is a fall-back for university rejects.
Jarus, on this one I disagree with you. Personal effort play major role in what we do but without puting sentiment into this issue Poly student cover far more than Uni Student in acctg. I pass through both system, and I can tell you put side by side acctg student of Yabatech and Unilag, you will always see the different. The record is there to confirme that the poly has the highest no of qualify accountant and the highest numbers is from Yabatech.

GboyegaD: I truly do not know who does better although I have always heard it but do not have figures to prove however, I think it has to do more with the individuals involved that their type of degree. One thing that cannot be ruled out is that Polytechnics Students take more Accounting courses than their University counterparts and that I am very sure of.
It is true that the Polytechnics student take more acctg courses than University student. I pass through both system and I can confirm this. If you want the break down of this I will be glad to do it.
