kayci_d77:Knowing more than me is never a crime, but knowledge without courtesy is what I see as a problem. Profit and Interest may be similar but they are not the same. Interest are relate with loan or borrowing of money, why profit is majorly commodity base, meaning buying and selling of commodity. Aboki activities on our street are good example of commodity bases activity. May be I can help more by breaking down the different between the profits and interest so that you can fully understand major different between the two: Interest Profit 1. Excess over the principal in a loan transaction. 1. Positive end result of business operation. 2. Unearned income 2. Has to earn by investing labor and capital. 3. Return of principal with additional amount (interest). 3. No such surety. is ensured. 4. Pre-determined 4. Uncertain 5. Interest may repetitively be earned on a single transaction. 5. Profit may be earned once from a single deal. 6. Prefixed cost of goods and services and creates inflation. 6. Profit is found after deduction of all expenses from total income. So it has no relation with inflation. 7. Interest increases money supply in the market. 7. There is no opportunity of increasing money supply. 8. These is the opportunity of compounding 8. Close end transaction. 9. There is no risk of erosion of capital. 9. Risk of erosion of capital is there. 10. No chance of negative end result i.e., loss. 10. There is every possibility of negative end result. And to the bolded part, I think there is need to respect each other, all of us cannot share the same religious believe. You can hate Hausa, Ibo or Yoruba, but never hate their religion. Let us wait till when Supreme Being will tell us who is right or wrong. The same way billion of Christians around the world cannot be wrong with who they choose to worship, billion of Muslims too can never be wrong. The problems are not with those two religions but with you and me who refuse to tolerate each other. Religion is only a part way or guide to your salvation; the name alone is not enough to get you salvation. Tolerance, love, and respect for your fellow human being are part of what will help you. |
ncpat:Let me make a clarification between the two, maybe this will help your understanding of the different between the profit and interest, at least from Muslim point of view. Money is not a commodity, meaning, we cannot buy and sell or lease money, interest in reality is buying and selling of money. The “profit” that comes out from this “transaction” is called interest. Any other forms of increase in return (excluding those that came from forbidden transactions) is what is call profit in Islam. Or to take it further, profit is the residual return to the entrepreneur after all the factor of productions is paid their respective shares. According to some scholars, they said interest drive economy is dangerous, it destroys the economy, instead of investing your money in real commodities/business and risk a loss, you might as well sit on your money, lend it and enjoy the “fixed returns”; no companies or jobs were created. It did add something to the economy, but the reality is that it destroys more than it creates. Profit comes from the production of real goods/services and added real value to the economy. |
earlalright:Our problem as a nation can be traced back to this type of ppl who never see beauty in other ppls faith. Who told you your religion is the best? Why not learn how to respect others for who they choose to worship? Let us stop creating problem where there is none. Why not wait till the end, and let your God confirm you as holy? Until then you don’t have any moral ground to come here to ask this unreasonable question. |
I am beginning to see the reason why we are having problem as a nation, where is the hope when we cannot tolerate each other? If it is not Muslims vs. Christians, it is Hausa vs. Ibo or Yoruba. Must we fight all the time? My own religion or my own tribe is the best mentality is becoming a curse to our national progress. I fear for our future with this type of mentality. Why not think of how we can make life better for our generation and the coming one rather than thinking of what we divide us. We leave the main issue and started to chase shadow, let us look at what they are selling to us rather than the name first, must every issue be viewing from tribal or religion perspective? Why not look at the merit of each issue? In the last election, most of us voted not because we believe in the capability of who we voted for but because this is our turn, this person is a Muslim or Christian. For how long are we going to continue like this? Why not respect your neighbor for whoever he chooses to worship, and leave him to his creature? Who told you that your religion is better than the other, or your tribe is the best. Whether Islamic or Christian banking, the first thing I think should come to the mind of a reasonable person is to ask himself, how this policy is going to affect my life. The more we think logically the better for our future, we can never move forward as a nation until we decided in our individual mind that we want to leave in peace with each other. |
Eko Ile:I am beginning to see your level, I am not here to join issue with you; you can definitely not give what you don’t have. Your problem is more of upbringing. I don’t see why a reasonable person will feel that insulting people is the best way to communicate your view. You definitely have a problem; I thought you were matured and reasonable before. |
Eko Ile:Mr Eko Ile, I think you need to be more matured in your response to issue. You don’t need to insult or call ppl names just because they have different view or they are ignorant of the privilege information you have. I doubt if Fashola will subscribe to this type of approach in defending his government. You need to be more civil in your approach, please don’t be offended, that is just my observation of you on this forum. |
btyfulmnd:The best decision a reasonable and patriotic citizen of a country can take to avoid conflict of interest. If he believe and convinced that the election that brought Jonathan is not credible, why do you want him to be sitting with enemies especially when the case is still in court? Please, let this man be, he knows what is best for him and his followers. I don’t see where his decisions constitute a threat to our national security, or disturb the government in anyway. Of what value is even the council of state in Nigeria if not I recognize you today so that somebody will recognize me tomorrow and we can continue to cover all our dirty together? |
kalokalo:I think the situations in Nigeria are more complex than the way you are seeing it. Your argument would have been perfectly in order if there are reasonable job opportunities for our talents and able hands. Do you know the numbers of graduate who are forced to take minimum wage job in the absence of job opportunity in Nigeria? Nigerians, who are doing security guard and washing cars abroad, are doing it as part of the sacrifice for seeking for better opportunities out of their domain. Educations don’t need to cost you fortune or your blood before you value or appreciate it. Education to me should be a right to those who are willing, and the government should provide such opportunities either through free education, scholarship, financial aid or soft loan. Even in US, the kids of those who receive minimum wages are not denied the privilege to education except you are not a citizen or residence. And for your information, our Federal and State Scholarship board are there for the interest of powerful. And for the postal, advice you friend to take that opportunity, America is a land of opportunities, with your green card, you have the opportunity without crying to any family for assistance to go to school, information is the key. |
DRAMA! DRAMA! DRAMA!!! As officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission staged a dramatic effort to seal off the palatial residence of outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, a source in the diplomatic community and other sources within the government have told SaharaReporters that there appears to be a high-level scheme to create room for the embattled speaker to escape any serious prosecution. Moments ago, the EFCC received instructions to back away from Mr. Bankole’s residence as part of a shady deal involving Inspector-General of Police Hafiz Ringim and the presidency. Earlier, an EFCC source confirmed to us that the agency decided to arrest Mr. Bankole after the speaker spurned several invitations to come to the EFCC’s headquarters for questioning. However, the speaker’s security operatives, including police officers and agents of the State Security Service, initially frustrated the EFCC’s plans to arrest Mr. Bankole who was planning to depart to the UK today by air. “The arrival of our security people at the speaker’s house was just on time because the man’s plan was to leave today,” said the source. The EFCC reportedly alerted IG of Police Hafiz Ringim of the fact that Bankole’s police protection was thwarting their effort to have the speaker arrested. The EFCC implored the IG to withdraw the police protection around Bankole in order to prevent a bloodbath. A short while later, the IG was spotted entering Mr. Bankole’s residence, ostensibly to break the siege on the speaker’s residence. However, a source in the Goodluck Jonathan administration said the IG had instructions from the presidency to tell the EFCC to back off from the outgoing speaker’s residence. An EFCC source confirmed that Mr. Ringim called in the EFCC’s operations leader at Bankole’s house and said he had instructions from President Jonathan to allow the speaker to complete handing over ceremonies on Monday before he can be questioned. Then, in a move that an anti-corruption activist described as “ridiculous,” the IG offered to stand surety for Mr. Bankole. “Why would the nation’s chief law enforcement officer offer to stand surety for an alleged criminal?” he asked. Thanks to the new twist, when the IG left about an hour later, the stalemate had ended in Mr. Bankole’s favor, with the outgoing speaker nowhere close to surrendering. One of our sources said Mr. Bankole reportedly plans to insist on not surrendering unless he is allowed to travel to the UK first for a so-called “emergency medical visit.” Soon after Mr. Ringim left the speaker’s residence, EFCC chairperson Farida Waziri reportedly received confirmation of instructions from the Presidency to withdraw most of their operatives from the speaker’s residence, maintaining just a skeletal presence to ensure that the speaker did not escape. “The EFCC has been told to allow the speaker to finalize his hand-over on Monday before moving to arrest him,” a source disclosed to us. However, the source added that the speaker had planned to leave the country today, and would not have been around to hand over. Besides, a member of the National Assembly told SaharaReporters that the speaker’s presence was not necessary in order to implement a hand-over. “It’s the clerk of the House who mostly handles handing over,” he said. A top government source also revealed to SaharaReporters that Mr. Jonathan had assured the outgoing speaker that the EFCC would be instructed not to charge him with the more serious crimes of stealing some $1 billion through an account at the United Bank for Africa ((UBA). “The plan now is to charge the speaker with the minor car-gate scam,’ referring to Mr. Bankole involvement in a car-buying scheme where he received kick-backs in exchange for over-inflated invoices. “I can assure you that nothing will be mentioned in the lawsuit about the speaker’s UBA account,” said the source. In the face of the speaker’s stout refusal to submit to EFCC interrogation, several sources in Abuja, including a diplomat from one of the European Union nations, said the new move to lessen EFCC presence on the outgoing speaker could be part of a scheme to help Mr. Bankole evade arrest or seriously compromise the evidence against him. A source in the EFCC told SaharaReporters that the agency believes Mr. Bankole has a huge stash of cash in his residence, “and he may be making plans to move it and to move or destroy some incriminating documents,” adding that the order to the agency to scale down the number of its operatives at the speaker’s residence was baffling. The EU diplomat told SaharaReporters that he remained worried about Mr. Bankole’s defiance and his ability to get away with it. “One would think that a man who has held the responsible office of speaker would be anxious to meet with law enforcement officers to clear his name,” said the diplomat. He said the stand-off was reminiscent of the tug-of-war between the EFCC and former Governor James Onanefe Ibori. The EFCC had sought to interrogate Mr. Bankole over discoveries that he stole some $1 billion through bank accounts opened at the UBA. SaharaReporters exclusively broke the news of the shocking heist and has reported the efforts of the Goodluck Jonathan administration to shield Mr. Bankole from interrogation and prosecution. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/speaker-bankole%E2%80%99s-billion-dollar-fraud-high-level-maneuvers-efcc-withdraws-speaker%E2%80%99s-house |
andyanders:Kenyan Ambassador's" Son speaks Who beat my Mother The Real Tessy Wigwe, Written By Nelson Wigwe (Son) First of all let me say how angry, sad and disappointed I am at the public who have already ridiculed my father H.E Dr Chijoke W Wigwe without hearing all the facts. Without talking to the people who were there, without talking to the people who know him best. Without talking to the people who know H.E Tess Wigwe and know exactly what she is capable of. For days, I have been holding back information because my mother H.E Tess Wigwe is the woman who bore me, the woman who raised me, and she is the woman who has provided for me my whole life. But with that said I cannot sit back and allow her to ruin my father’s life and disgrace Nigeria like this. Now before I continue I think it’s crucial that you know a couple of facts. I have lived with my mother my whole life. I have never and will never put anyone before her. So if you’re silly enough to think that I will lie for my father against my mother? You are sadly mistaken. On May the 11, I was in my bedroom lying down listening to music when I heard a loud commotion coming from my mother and fathers room. I heard my mother shouting telling my father “I cook food for you and you don’t eat” I thought nothing of it because my mother and father argue a lot, so I ignored it at first. But then the commotion got louder. That’s when I left my room to investigate what was going on. When I arrived, I found my mother and father arguing in the hallway. My mother was yelling at me “look at my face, look at what your father did” I looked at my mother’s face and she had some cuts and small amounts of blood on it, her face was nothing like those horrific pictures that we all saw in the star on May the 26 2011. I tried to calm my mother down and I escorted her into her bedroom to clean her face. I took a face towel and soaked it with dettol and tried to clean her face but she refused. “No” my mother shouted “I want to show everyone what your father has done, I want the press and everybody to see”. I mean she was not complaining of any pain, she was not holding any part of her body in pain. She was not dazed or confused apart from the small cuts, she was fine. My mother told the star that “she was rescued by her 20 year old son and her 23 year old daughter” but that’s a lie because I found them arguing in the hall. My mother also said in the same interview “He grabbed me by the hand and when I tried to pull away, he hurled me against the wall and started punching me” But when I arrived at the scene I saw my mother and father having an argument, like all husbands and wife’s have now and again. So after my mother refused that I should clean her face. She incredibly asked me to look for her camera. She said and I quote “Nelson look for my camera, I want people to see what your father has done, I want everybody to know what happened even the press” to say I was shocked was an understatement, my mother claims that my father “battered” her but yet here she is, looking around for her camera, instead of telling me to take her to hospital. Could it be that my mother is lying? She eventually found her camera and phoned her friend to come and pick her up. My mother then went outside of the house to wait for her friend. On the way out my mother took photos of her face. My father locked the front door because at this point my mother was shouting at the top of her voice, saying, “I will finish you this Chijioke Wigwe, and you shall see what will happen” She also mentioned my father’s term, and mentioned that the possibility of any future opportunity for him, she will destroy. As she waited outside for her friend to arrive, my mother was shouting wild accusations at the top her voice. “Your father sleeps around with woman; your father is an evil man” My father was furious with these accusations and unlocked the door to confront my mother but I held him back. My mother continued to disgrace herself by shouting “ Chijoke Wigwe you are not fit to be Ambassador, you are a coward, your mother is a LovePeddler, I will finish you here in Kenya, mark my words” At this point, me, my sister, the chef and the security man, are all trying to calm her down, but she was continuing to shout and trying to fight. My nephew was also there, who is a small child, but It didn’t seem to bother her that he was witnessing the argument. She continued and my sister begged with her to stop for the sake of her son. It was not long after this point that she went looking for bricks and pot plants that are located around the residence. She picked up a pot plant and tried to throw it. My sister stopped her and the contents were spilled all over her as a result. When that didn’t succeed, she eventually picked up a brick and hurled it at the window. Twice. Eventually shattering it. This is the person who claimed to have suffered injuries including severe back pain. So, how, therefore, did she manage to hurl large objects and break our security windows? She eventually calmed down, and that was when her friend came. My father then left the house to see who had arrived, and told the person to just leave. They drove away. Maybe everyone is confused as to why my Mother would do something like this. Before my mother left London, it was agreed that every month my Father would be using a large portion of his allowance to pay her mortgage. That means that for the past two and a half years, my Mother has been sending that money to London to pay her mortgage for her house. Problems entailed when she realized that the so called trust worthy person was in fact keeping every cent of that money. So, as we speak, she is in serious debt. I cannot stress the amount of times that my mother has been worrying about the repossession of her house in London, due to the theft. When it comes to money, my mother is like a lioness protecting her cub. She will stop at nothing to try and make up for the loss of that money. Including, but not limited to, lying to my father, and the embassy. Saying that things in the house were broken or needed repair, receiving the money for it, then keeping the money to herself. Despite the fact that there is never any food in the house, which she receives a large amount each month for, she managed to pay for a plane ticket for her old friend from England to arrive here. This now being the new person entrusted with the payment of her mortgage. Yet, despite this expensive plane ticket, and the sheer thousands of pounds that are sent back to London, our Nigerian residence here, is somewhat of a joke. The five security dogs that we have here, who are Rottweiler’s by the way, are all suffering from malnutrition and some are starving. She receives around 20,00ksh for these dogs, yet a mere 3,000 is what is used per month to feed these large animals. Instead of a diet of meat and protein, they receive rice! My sister has been here since April from the US. When she arrived, true to my mother’s nature, she started once again into a long ongoing fight with her. Banning her from using the car, making her and my nephew take taxi cabs and finally telling our chef he is not allowed to prepare food for her! My sister even had to use her American bank card just so she could eat! The same thing happened to me in 2008, when I myself arrived with her from London. Not allowing me to use the car, or buying food. I was even accused of conniving against her with an old lady that was brought here from a village in Nigeria to work on the residence. Now, bare in mind this is a small woman in stature, and also quite feeble. This woman was battered by my mother as she accused her of turning me against her. She then ordered that the woman not be allowed to eat, or drink at all. I remember secretly making a meal for her as I felt bad, but she came in and saw me and an argument ensued. After everything that this woman was put through, which for her was hell, she was then made to leave. The other staff members have followed the same fate. Some have lost their jobs other were merely fired, based on the fact she thought they were silly. Prior to her arrival most of these people had their jobs for a long time. An example was a man called Ibraham who was not only my father’s driver but a driver to many other diplomats before him. My Mother was actually jealous of the close friendship they had. So, next thing we knew, he was fired. Most if not all of our current staff all work in fear of her. In my 20 years of existence, I have actually never once witnessed an act of unkindness from my father. My mother on the other hand, well, this is the woman who I have the worst memories of growing up. Especially concerning my sister. Which is why I’m disgusted at the hypocrisy of her “battered woman” claim. There were many times when I would witness her picking on and beating my older sister, then I would write letters to her and slip them under her bedroom door as I heard her crying on the other side. I will never forget that. At 16 she was kicked out of the house, and my mother will deny doing so to this day, even though we ALL witnessed it. In London, when my sister was pregnant at 24, I have never seen such evil behaviour towards her. We all thought it would get better, but it didn’t. A great example of this is when we had a small mouse that used to always appear now and then, in the kitchen. Although heavily pregnant and working at the time, my mother ordered my sister who was tired, and going through bad bouts of morning sickness, to clean the mouse droppings. When she asked if I could do it she was told, no and an argument ensued and she was almost made to do it. My sister stood her ground and refused. She would also spray air freshener in the room my sister was staying in, although she knew certain smells were literally making her sick. As a result, my sister not only left my mother’s house, although she had nowhere to go, but she went all the way to New York, 6months pregnant with about 30 dollars to her name. She even had to ask her GP for permission to travel as she was so heavy at that point. As for my Father, on top of NEVER raising a hand to any of us, He has literally supported us in any way he can. My sister used to live with him in New York and study fashion and photography. He used to also pay her rent in California just because she was unable to work. He has paid for even our brother’s girlfriends to come and visit in New York and elsewhere. He has always let us have our friends over and used to take us out to the cinema, to the park, to play, and to watch us at our sports games for support. My mother wouldn’t even let friends of ours in the house. My Father is loved and she has always hated that. She never understood why people didn’t take to her the same way. It never occurred to her that the way she treated people would have an effect on how they saw her. His kindness extends to his staff and they all reap the benefits of this. He never thought himself higher than anyone else and for this, his staff always received respect from him despite his powerful positions. My Father’s good nature has influenced us all. His love for music, has influenced all of us. His love of the arts, has brought out a brilliant talent in my sister which he has always encouraged and nurtured. He would wake up every day and put on Bob Dylan and listen to classical music. We have fond memories of him listening to his music, dancing and even making up his own lyrics to make us laugh. He is kind and very funny and even though my nephew has not been here long, Grandad is the one he runs to whenever he would return home. After events, he would come home, sit down with a small glass of whiskey and tell us interesting stories. He never raised his voice or yelled at us. He was always calm and peaceful. This is his true nature. Not the barbaric monster he has been made out to be. One of my brother’s got wind of the news in London and called him crying, and devastated. We all are. This is not the father we have grown up to, love and adore. It hurts us to see such mean things said about him. I haven’t even lived with my Father my whole life. Yet, the times that I was staying with him due to his occupation, were some of the best times and memories of my life. Like Warsaw Poland, Manhattan in New York, and then here in Nairobi, Kenya. I have lived with my mother my entire life, so I hope it’s understood the difficulty in me writing this letter. But, I must do it. For the sake of my family, for the sake of Nigeria and the reputation my father has worked so hard to achieve. But the truth must be known to all not just me. Diligence:What offence has Awolowo committed against your people? What do you expect during the war? How does war relate to cultural dancing? If the offence of Awolowo was supervising the program that stop the supply of food, blocked medical supplies and whatever you can think of during the war, then you have no point. War is not a child play, both parties are fighting to win, and in achieving that purpose, you can use any possible means. Let us stop crying for nothing, and look forward rather than inward. Both parties suffer casualties during the war, so don’t let us play a victim card. Awolowo or Nigeria own you no apology for what happen during that war, What you saw, or hear about your Biafara war are what a reasonable person should be expecting when you hear “WAR”. |

denzel2009:If there is company where HR is responsible/prepares Payroll they are in small number. So it may not be true to say that most organizations have payroll unit as a sub unit of HR. In Nigeria today, all most all organization have their payroll unit as a sub-unit of Account department. In western world, the practice is a bit different, especially in the United State where most organization contract out such responsibility to Payroll Company who work as agent of the company. The HR only serve as an intermediary between the company and the payroll company, by forwarding to payroll company the time sheet and distribute checks/cheques and pay stub as the case may be to staff. |
Accounting Departments are usually structured along functional lines: Accounts Payable: deal with suppliers Accounts Receivable: deal with customers or clients Payroll : Salary and wages with all related deduction Final Account: deal with general leger, adjustment, monthly closure of account etc Petty cash: handling small small cash as define by company policy Fixed Asset Management : fixed asset management as the name indicate Bank Reconciliation: reconciling bank account with your payables Budgetting A small company may have one person performing more than one (sometimes all) of the functions. In this case, there needs to be financial controls to reduce the probability of theft or embezzelment. In a large company, there could be many people working in one functional area; and in that case, that function might be broken down to smaller components. |
divide the department into payable and receivable first and carry on from there. I will help more if I have time later in the day. |
May 3 (GIN) – On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Omidyar Network of Redwood City, California, announced the award of nearly $5 million in funding to four media-related groups involved in investigative and citizen journalism in the developing world. The four groups are: African Media Initiative (Kenya); the SaharaReporters project (Nigeria); Media Development Loan Fund (U.S.), and the Committee to Protect Journalists (Africa programs). Announcing the grant to Sahara Reporters, an online network of underground and citizen journalists operating inside Nigeria, Omidyar’s Stephen King said: “They put a lens on the Nigerian government by covering corruption, disbursement of oil revenues and graft on a massive scale. (SaharaReporters.com) provides much more [information] than a newspaper or news outlet might. It’s a forum where controversial stories can be aired.” Sowore Omoyele, founder and publisher of the NY-based Sahara Reporters, described the work of his group as far-reaching. “We had 1,700 reporters on Blackberry alone who volunteered to cover the [recent Nigerian] elections for us," he said. "They took smartphone photos of police repression and election violence.” “We report events, news and write reports of real time issues. It is our response to the failure – the refusal or lack of will on the part of professional journalists – to report real news to the people … SR is doing well in that regard. We have broken the sound and speed barriers of reporting authentic, evidence-based news. “Omidyar Network believes a healthy government – one that is responsive to its citizens -- requires a healthy, robust fourth estate. By focusing additional efforts on fostering investigative and citizen journalism, we believe we will be catalyzing transparency efforts that will positively affect millions of people,” said King, who heads Omidyar’s global government transparency programs. To date, Omidyar Network has committed more than $400 million to for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations that foster economic advancement and encourage individual participation in the areas of microfinance, entrepreneurship, property rights, government transparency, consumer Internet and mobile. I did not use the world majority in term of who has the highest population, I was only saying that both Christians and Muslims have large followers that we cannot just ignore each other, let us learn how to live in peace, and fight our common enemies who use ethnic and religion to divide us. |
Like them or hate them they are in majority, their presence cannot be ignored. All religions have some elements that are extremist, fanatic, and violent. Islam as a religion is not an exception. I see this your posting as another way of misinforming people about the religion of other people. Your posting amount to calling over one billion people a fool. We need to learn how to deal with our problem in Nigeria without insulting other intelligent people across the world who are Muslims. When did Christian or Jew become an unbeliever to you, the verse you are referring to 9:5, 9:6 … said pagans and unbelievers, and according to my dictionary, the word unbelievers and pagans are well define to guide us Pegan 1. One of a people or community observing a polytheistic religion, as the ancient Romans and Greeks. 2. A person who is not a Christian, Jew, or Muslim. 3. An irreligious or hedonistic person. Unbelievers 1. A person who does not believe. 2. A person who does not accept any or some particular, religious belief. Let us be an agent of peace, and stop all these Muslim and Christian, Yoruba, Hausa and Ibo propagandas. Vicjustice: |

I CRY FOR THE FUTURE OF MY COUNTRY, the followers are worst than the leaders; the next four years will tell more of who deserve our praise. |
One, he’s the kind of president that will vote N10bn for 6 federal universities but will give N30bn for the entertainment industry. They say it is a loan but is the the entertainment industry the most endangered? What about the health and education sectors? Two, he’s the type of president that will vote N1.3bn for furniture in less than a year after his house was renovated for him and a similar amount spent by the deceased president on the same house? Insensitive? Selfish? Three, he’s the kind of president that will provide intervention fund for the textile industry and less than one week later lift the ban on the importation of textile! Four, he’s the kind of president that will increase the age of cars allowed into the country from 10 to 15 years when governments all over the world are spending billions to eliminate high carbon based carbon from the society because of negative impact on the environment. Five, he’s the kind of president that will set up six universities premised on a silly reason that every state should have one, created additional three when all the existing ones are in a state of uselessness due to huge under-funding? Six, he’s the kind of president that will waive and allow duty free importation of rice into the country, denying our local farmers the revenue, the support and the patronage needed for growth; all in the name of politics. Even Baba Iyabo was unhappy and could not believe that we import rice with so much local production going on. Seven, he’s the kind of president that will consider creating an airport in each state of the federation when the existing international and local ones are in ruins and taken over by goats and cows. Please visit Kano International Airport at night and see whether you won't have to read psalm 23 for safe landing. Eight, he’s the kind of president that will spend an entire $4.5bn in excess crude oil account in less than eight months; arguing that the account is illegal but the people have not seen anything he did with the money. Na wa oh! Nine, he’s the kind of president that will spend N10bn or N17bn on an anniversary with nothing to write home about. Ghana spent less than N200m and the impact is still on 2 years later – I still dey vex for this one! Ten, he’s the kind of president who under the guise of raising money for election keeps the price of kerosene and AGO at over N130. Well, it’s good for the masses. Na only no queues at the filling station una dey see? Eleven, he’s the kind of president who will spend so much money on a carnival like campaign around the country without spending time to reflect on the number of children without shoes, without books and without food. Or are poverty stricken people no more in Nigeria? In sum, the guy does not have the capacity to lead us. Many say he’s nice. That’s true but so are children; but if we allow them to lead even our houses, we can only harvest destruction. Besides, who wants a nice president? Nice neighbour, yes; nice wife, yes; nice friend, yes. But a nice president? By Safiya Musa http://saharareporters.com/article/eleven-reasons-why-you-should-waste-your-vote-jonathan |

As I meandered through the headlines early this morning as has been my daily routine for sometime now, my attention was drawn to events at Buhari’s last campaign rally at the Abuja international conference centre as reported by several dailies. Buhari was said to have broken into tears as he addressed a world press conference to mark the grand finale of his Presidential campaign. He lamented the ‘havoc which the government had done to Nigerians and their reputation’. He said, “Ladies and gentlemen, in the life of any nation there comes a time when some people have to stand up and point out when things are moving off track, explain why they are going wrongly, demonstrate how they can be set aright, and work towards making a difference. “For Nigeria, that time has come and it is now; and the people to stand up are you and me! Second, let me state categorically that I am not in this race to advance or protect any vested interest or group. “We are seeking to replace a government that has done so much havoc to its people and their reputation; and we are determined, with your help, to uproot them completely. By the grace of God, Nigeria is going through its last few weeks of arbitrary non-accountable, corrupt governance—the type that has turned it into a republic of thieves.” Buhari said that in all the time he had the privilege of managing national resources in various capacities in the country, he ‘never touched a kobo of public funds’. “I have fought drift and purposelessness in this nation. I have fought corruption and indiscipline. I have fought indolence and the betrayal of trusts. I have fought the Nigerian civil war and struggled for the unity of this country in many other ways. Some of his critics have already attributed his tears to frustrations of a sinking man. Others have said he is trying to buy sympathy votes with his ‘’theatrics’’. I’ve also heard a few say the results of last Saturday’s NASS elections must have dealt him a huge blow hence his outburst. Perhaps his critics are right however as I pondered upon the headlines and in particular the character General Muhammadu Buhari. Before this morning I could not imagine General Buhari weep in public…The stories we had heard about him tell me otherwise. Stoic, disciplined, a general in the army etc. My thoughts drifted to Prof Pat Utomi and Dr Okey Ndibe. Prof Utomi had a few weeks said ‘’lets sink this ship…lets crash this democracy because its not working for Nigeria’’. Dr Okey Ndibe had also wriiten an article within that same time frame titled Time to destroy the Nigerian temple? I began to wonder why these men we had always seen as Patrotic Nigerians begin to loose faith in the future of Nigeria. I began to ask many more questions. The what if questions hence my title. What If Nigerians truly deserve the leaders they get…what if Buhari is a true patroit and his tears were really about the rot in the system and his passion to salvage the system from self destruction…what if majority of Nigerians really are satisfied with where they are? A chilling thought then struck my heart…what if Buhari’s tears were an analogy of the tears of Christ as he gazed upon Jerusalem in Luke 19: 41-44 ‘’As Jesus drew near to the city of Jerusalem he wept over it saying "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace!! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side and level you and your children to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation." Jerusalem was destroyed in AD 70 as Jesus prophesied. What would make Buhari, Utomi and Ndibe agonize over Nigeria to the point of weeping. I do hope this analogy does not come through but again what if it does? Hypothetically, perhaps this election might present Nigerians the opportunity to decide between Buhari who sees himself as the messiah to bring Nigerian out of the woods and the current President. If we choose to reject him and choose the status quo then we can safely say that it is our collective decision and we would face the ‘’consequences’’ of our decision. The Jewish nation took a decision to reject Christ as their messiah and the prophesies of Christ came upon them in AD 70. I really hope this wont be our own story. Perhaps I am just hallucinating or overreacting but my initial questions still beg to be answered. what If buhari is right? What if majority of Nigerians deserve bad leadership. What if the fears expressed by Okey Ndibe and Pat Utomi are founded on facts. So many WHAT IF’s? I just hope that Nigerians can get beyond selfish and religious sentiments in picking her leaders this time around. In Akwa Ibom State, Governor Godswill Akpabio’s plans to pre-determine the gubernatorial and state assembly elections ran into troubled waters on Tuesday as a printer, Mr Emmanuel Edoho, the CEO of Leats Concept Ltd and a PDP stalwart, was arrested by state security operatives in Eket. A team of security operatives from the Akwa Ibom Command of State Security Services sealed off the premises of a printing press where ballot papers of the State Assembly and Governorship elections were being printed. The team, acting on a tip off, stormed the printing outfit, which is located at 48 Afaha Uqua Road in the town, and searched the place. It removed the printing plates and some of the printed ballot papers as well as others still under processing. The ballot papers are for the State Assembly and Governorship Elections scheduled for April 26. Although the proprietor of the press is a PDP stalwart involved with the party’s electioneering campaigns and election duties, it could not be immediately ascertained who had placed printing order for the ballot papers with the printer. SaharaReporters gathered that the armed SSS team which arrived in the premises in a Peugeot Multipurpose Vehicle and a Toyota Hilux with registration numbers AG 654 UYY and AP 586 UYY respectively, arrested one Etuk Akpan, who was identified as the manager of the printing outfit. The SSS team also conducted searches on the residence of the proprietor of the printing firm in Eket and took away some exhibits. A visit to the printing press on Tuesday showed that the press was in a lockdown mode while some members of staff who had taken to their heels when the security men invaded the place regrouped in the area to discuss the incident. Our sources at the SSS state headquarters in Uyo confirmed receiving the report from the Eket Field Office but declined comments, saying they were yet to get a report from the team that undertook the operation. “We got a report and dispatched a team to the field and we are yet to get a report and feedback from them and it will be premature to make any comments at this time when investigations are at the early stages,” an official said. SaharaReporters had identified Akwa Ibom, Imo, Benue, Kwara and Delta States as trouble spots where election results underwent manipulation during last week's parliamentary elections. Today INEC officials stated that some of the elections in those states remain inconclusive. They also named Imo, Bayelsa and Delta as states in which 117 ballot boxes were stolen during Saturday’s legislative elections. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/pdp-chieftain-arrested-eket-sss-seals-printing-press-alleged-printing-ballot-papers |
