It will be indeed one of the seven wonders of the world if Yaya gets APC ticket. How he would be able to convince Ogun voters to cast their votes for an already perceived 'Tokunbo' politician would interest me. My candid advice to him is that he should just seek reelection into the hallowed chamber from his Lagos constituent. |
Methinks the structure above is just the skeleton for the pyramid to stand firm. I initially thought the rice were rebaged as alleged to have been done in Kogi until I saw the the video of the factory on a program on TV. Majority of our politicians are deceitful though and one cannot imagine how low they can sink just to score cheap political points. |
One cannot but pity Gov Ortom of Benue state on the travails of his people. Unfortunately the Gov isn't really the Chief Security Officer of the state as he has no control over the Commissioner of Police and all other heads of security in the state. He, like other state governors, are already helpless as far as security is concerned as they are at the mercy of the Commander- in- Chief of the Armed Forces. Little wonder why they always outdo each other to be in the good book of the Presidency. |
Blackmail? I don't think so. PMB so far has been a huge let down in some critical areas of governance. Sometimes I wonder why there's a big disparity between what they told us GMB was and what PMB is. It's becoming obvious that PMB isn't in absolute control of this administration, a fact that his wife has alluded to. PMB couldn't have been the only upright soul in APC that can fix Nigeria. There should be an avalanche of worthy, youthful and competent successors in the party, otherwise the party should be disbanded forthwith Let him emulate Mandela and retire to Daura. |
MexicanWolf:That’s exactly the point I'm driving at and I wish the moderators here help give it the needed attention. I know of a candidate who scored more than 300 in the last UTME and yet couldn't get admission into UI to study Medicine. His post utme score was 69 while the cut-off for Medicine was 71 (as learnt). This candidate, of course, has to buy another UTME form this year again as the over 300 score has gone down the drains. It's glaring now that JAMB is solely concerned about how much it generates and definitely not about the welfare of the candidates. Again, UTME fee should not be more than #2500 unless it's validity is reviewed upward. Let's put pressure on all concerned ; JAMB, NASS, Presidency et al. #MODERATORS |
Chief Osoba has been rendered toothless in the scheme of things in the APC in that state. We shouldn't forget in a hurry how he was frustrated out of the party by the incumbent governor in 2015 and how all those that left with him ( Sen. Obadara, Sen. Kaka et al) lost the 2015 elections. As it stands, there are just two factors that might prevent Amosun from installing his Chief of Staff as his successor; 1. The masses especially the workers who are dissatisfied with the non-remitance of their deductions. I'm sure he will rectify all of those this year and they might forgive him 2. Tinubu's factor owing to the fact that Yayi is a Lagos boy (Tokunbo as he's being called). However, I do not expect Amosun to chicken out easily. He has the ears of the President ever since their days in ANPP. The drama is unfolding and never ending. |
fashionlily9ja:Thank you. Any M. ED Science Education graduate here ? |
That maturity is being constantly attacked by words like; Yoro Muslims, Ewedu Head slammers and some other derogatory words used to describe Muslims of Yoruba extractions on this forum. All of these are tagerted towards amplifying the hitherto silent religious difference in the Southwestern region of the country. And sadly, the division is getting registered in our psyche daily so much that in the next few years, the region may not be as peaceful as we have it now. |
UTME fee should not be more than #2500 unless it's validity is reviewed as advocated here. https://www.nairaland.com/4255607/call-downward-review-utme-fee I wish we all rise against all of these official exploitations by government and corporate bodies Next is the contentious Post UTME fee (some even charge as high as #10000 for the ever elusive admission) And then the obnoxious Acceptance fee When is enough really going to be enough? Let's raise our collective voice here https://www.nairaland.com/4255607/call-downward-review-utme-fee |
My personal expectation from him tomorrow ; * Resignation as the Minister of Petroleum and subsequent appointment of a capable replacement * Maintenance of his stance that there is NO subsidy anywhere * Immediate withdrawal of the embarrassing appointment list and appropriate sanctioning of the careless staffers in the Presidency. and ultimately, * The disbandment of his kitchen cabinet holding him hostage. They have made him fritter the much goodwill he had in 2015. |
SESknowledge:Alright. I wish the voice is raised loud enough before so many prospective candidates pay for the form |
Jesusloveyou:Sorry. I don't seem to understand you. |
How can the people in the presidency fail to verify such a thing as little as the list of appointees before making it public? How do we continue to entrust complex governance issues into the hands of these people? Granted that humans are prone to mistakes but the President ( if he's truly in charge) has to make some people pay for this gross negligence. |
If PMB had not won the 2015 elections, we would have regarded him as the best president Nigeria never had. Now he is being demystified and we can see that he's no different from the past rulers. Maybe there's something in the system we operate that makes governance such a dauting task. Even if the Ojota protesters wouldn't come out to protest this time around, one would at least expect a condemnation of this show of shame from them. If the NASS have the balls and want to be taken serious, they should invite the Minister of Petroleum instead of his lieutenants. As for the Labour Unions all it takes for their leaders to chicken out is just an invitation from the security agents |
slimsce:Hmmn! Two things are involved in Nairaland's case (or so I think) 1. Fashion, celebrity and entertainment gossips attract more patronage. Hence you see such threads gracing the front page traffic. 2. Dearth of topics that might provoke intellectual discussion devoid of unnecessary bickering and abuses. I chuckled yesterday when three threads about Yussuf Buhari bedecked the front page in succession.. Damn! I hope all of those will go with 2017. BTW all govt agencies and private Corporations stealing from the poor masses SHALL face the wrath of the people in the coming year and beyond. |
caringsce:This is only on visa application and has caught our attention because of the huge disparity. What about the plethora of other sundry charges we oftentimes overlook? Yes those few kobos and naira. The way I see it is that these people wether corporate or government have the same agenda to milk the masses dry in anyway possible while the complacent regulatory agencies look the other way. Sadly, the much we can do is to complain, grumble and at best demonstrate while the sleaze continues unabated Sighs |
SESknowledge:Since a large percentage of Nigerians cannot afford to go overseas now. Don't you think we should not fold our arms and watch these people stiffens us to 'death' |
googlestar:So many candidates this year had reason to change either course or institution or both and ended up paying up to #5000 again for an admission that is elusive. Painfully, many of them would still buy the form this time again |
etzskillz:Very well. I understand that JAMB cannot be scrapped by mere pronunciation of the FG except the Act establishing it is repealed. This might not come anytime soon. In the interim, we can advocate for the reduction of the UTME fee. |
The 2018 race for admission into Tertiary institutions in Nigeria effectively commenced when JAMB rolled out the registration for its UTME earlier this month. The admission process is fraught with wanton exploitation of the hapless candidates and their parents/guardians. Regrettably , the chief culprit in this official fleecing of candidates is JAMB itself. How do we explain JAMB, a government agency, charging #5000 (aside the #500 for the literature text and #700 for registration at the CBT center) for an exam in Nigeria, that may not last more than 3 hours, the validity of which is still not more than a year. Let’s look at the SSCE by WAEC for instance, this body charges about #14000 for her examinations that have validity of ‘forever’, and entails more number of days (sometimes more than a month), practical exams, logistics and not to talk of paying thousands of supervisors and examiners to mark the scripts. In this same Nigeria and under the same biting economy, one would expect that a government agency would better look for ways to lessen citizens' burdens. JAMB in its characteristic exploiting business charges #2500 per every UTME data correction ranging from Date of Birth, Gender e.t.c and ultimately , the Change of Course or Institution. This is where the JAMB (probably colluding the institutions further cheat the candidates). Let me explain; while registering for the UTME, candidates are compelled to choose four institutions viz 1st choice ,2nd choice ,3rd choice and 4th choice. The reality however is that a candidate would only be eligible to write the contentious Post UTME into only his/her as 1st choice institution as most schools will make it clear that only candidates who pick them as 1st choice should buy the Post UTME form. Most candidates therefore would be forced to part with another #2500 in favour of JAMB to be able to change the hitherto 2nd choice to 1st choice to be eligible to write the Post UTME. Can you blame the admission seekers for being desperate? Definitely no! JAMB, who is going to be the beneficiary of the #2500 for the change of institution, shouldn’t have looked the other way. Why make candidates select 4 institutions ab initio when they won’t be allowed to write Post UTME into their 2nd choice institutions eventually? More than 1.7 million candidates wrote the last UTME. We were also told that JAMB made a remittance of more than #5billion to the coffers of the government. While Kudos must be given to the Registrar, we should not be unmindful of the fact that JAMB shouldn’t be in contention with the FIRS and the Customs in generating revenue for the government. The more than #5billion remitted to the FG divided by the number of candidates that wrote the exam gives about #2941 per candidate. Hence I do not think JAMB should charge more than #2500 for the UTME. If the members of the National Assembly are not accomplices,I sincerely wish they will for once rise to the defence of the hapless masses and make JAMB gives the justification for charging candidates exorbitantly. Concerned candidates and their parents should write petitions to the National Assembly and The Presidency for the review of JAMB activities otherwise next year’s fee might just jump to #10000. Whoever thought that candidates would be made to pay #50 to obtain a registration code this year? The propriety or otherwise of the Post UTME as well as the obnoxious Acceptance fee would be discussed later (a battle at a time). The summary of the agitation is; 1. UTME registration fee should not have been more than #2500 Except it’s validity is extended beyond a year. 2. The cost of UTME data correction should not have been more than #1000. Imagine someone having to pay another #5000 to correct Date of Birth and Change Institution. 3. JAMB should either restrict candidates to only one Institution or instruct institutions to allow candidates write the Post UTME be it 1st or 2nd choice without having to pay for change of institution * You can add to the above listed grouses. # LibertyRep. |
As much as I sympathise with the students, I sincerely want the legal inclined people here to educate me on the following issues: 1. The law establishing MAPOLY has been repealed by the State's House of Assembly in favor of the newly established Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH) and the subsequent establishment of Ogun State Polytechnic Does that not imply that there is no entity called MAPOLY in the eyes of the law? If that is the case, does that not also by implication means that there are no students called MAPOLY students any longer? 2. If the premises above are right, does that not mean that the examination the students are clamouring for is an exercise in futility since the school does not exist any longer? I sincerely wish to be enlightened on this. BTW, the impunity of the State's Executives has to end someday somehow. |
#6200 for an exam that may not last for more than 3 hours, the validity of which hasn't exceeded a year. This is aside the other charges for correction of data, change of institution and printing of result slip. Now another #50 to get a code to be used to purchase a pin. This is clear exploitation. Then comes the Institutions with their cut-throat Post Utme screening fees. This is clearly an act of taking from the poor to feed the already overfed rich. The National Assembly, if they are not accomplices should for once do something over this. |
Follysho707:Yaba-Left That's huge! Two of una get scores to settle before? |
Sage7:The dichotomy is huge and I don't see ending, not anytime soon. |
Sage7:Brother, come and modify this 'comment' right now |
If you are not self employed already and would be seeking for employment after your program, please I beg you in the name of whatever you worship, don't buy that HND form. Don't make that mistake. Buy Direct Entry form or buy UTME form to start afresh at a conventional University. You also have the opportunity of approaching any Open University study center close to you and explore the opportunities therein available. All of these would eventually make you get a University degree. Worry less about the number of years and fund involved. Please don't buy that HND form. Don't be fooled by those who will tell you that you can always proof your worth on the field. See, the truth is that you may not even be given the opportunity to proof anything at all. A large percentage of Nigerian employers including the government worship certificates and there isn't any traces that they might change any soon. Take for instance, Ogun government commenced the sale of ASCON forms for the employment into the civil service of the state and HND holders are barred from partaking in the exercise. Even if you make it to the civil service through other avenues, there's is a level beyond which you can't rise because of your HND background. Why would you want to be subjected to such ridicule? Don't buy that form! You may also be thinking of doing PGD, Masters and PhD later on. Well some universities wouldn't let you pass the Masters stage. LASU for Instance specifically stated that MED holders with HND and PGDE background are not eligible to apply for PhD. You see, the discrimination is huge and you wouldn't like it later on. Please drop the idea of the HND form. What I don't understand is why the government and others in charge of our education have not scrapped these Polytechnics. Why would they allow them to churn out products that are not accorded the right respect in the society? Scrap the Polytechnics or at best stop them from awarding HND Certificates forthwith Don't get carried away with the fact that HND holders are also called graduates and are allowed to partake in the NYSC scheme. See, the euphoria of their 'graduates' status expires with NYSC. If you doubt me, try to pick up a masters form with your HND after your NYSC. The discrimination is huge and you wouldn't like it. Whilst it is true that some HND holders are doing very very well in their various fields, their percentage is also very very small compared to those battling with the ridiculous discrimination both in public and private establishments. Why would you therefore allow yourself experience such mockery after spending five years pursuing the certificate. (2 years for ND, 1 year for IT and another 2 years for the HND) It is good to be educated but please be educated properly at least In Nigeria's context. This is because the most ridiculed certificate in Nigeria now is the HND Certificate. Again, if you don't have a business of your own and would be seeking employment later on, don't buy that HND form. My two cents.

I sincerely blame those allowed Boko Haram to fester when they could have defeated the insurgency at the very start. Now it has become a cash cow and successive goverments would explore it to the fullest to milk the treasury. $1 billion ( roughly #360 000 000 000) to fight an already defeated group is very very suspicious. |
Good. All the 'thieves' who stole our collective patrimony must be made to vomit such and punished appropriately. However care must be taken to ensure that the present 'saints' aren't allowed to help themselves with our money with such brazen impunity. Or how do we explain that the infamous 'grass cutter ' is still roaming free. Someone should remind PMB and his handlers that corruption must not only be fought but must be seen in all quarters that it is being thoroughly and not selectively fought. |
In clear term, there is actually an account which the NNPC operates outside the TSA,the approval of which was conveyed to the NNPC by the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari. Thanks for the clarification |
Isn't it an irony that goverments continue to build and fund Polytechnics and yet relegate the products of such institutions to the back waters. Just recently, Ogun govt begins the sale of ASCON forms and HND holders are barred from partaking in the exercise. Why build an institution when you wouldn't recognize the product? Can we just scrap Polytechnics all together and save the intending HND holders the agony of this discrimination. |
