U can ask me questions about mixers and I will.tru my possible best to ans them. |
There's no denying that a stand mixer is so much nicer to use than a hand model, but you do pay for this convenience. On the other hand, a stand model is much more functional, especially if optional accessories are available. Buying a stand mixer can require a small investment and with different wattage, features, and capacities, it can seem downright confusing to shop for one. And this is one appliance you don't want to have to replace anytime soon. These tips can help you make the right purchase decision. Stand Mixer Use is the Ultimate Consideration How you intend to use the mixer is really your first consideration. If you bake a lot (average of 10 kg weekly) you need a powerful motor and a large capacity bowl - a minimum of 600 watts of power and a 4.5 litre bowl or larger. Basing your decision on capacity is important. If your needs are smaller and you buy a large mixer, you'll find it cumbersome to use for small batches. On the other hand, if your needs are great and you buy an undersized unit, you'll need to split your recipes and process them in batches. A Caution Regarding Power Performance and Capacity It may seem that the higher the wattage, the more power for mixing and kneading. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Some mixers may use more wattage to operate than other models and power output may be less than denoted. This is why it is wiser to base your buying decision on capacity, rather than solely on advertised wattage. Manufacturers will often provide capacity (so many cups of flour, etc) guidelines which can be very helpful, but since these usually tend to be a little on the high side and may not be the best for optimum mixing, base your decision on a reduced capacity level. Best Stand Mixer Features Overload protection is a nice feature, as is a locking tilt head. An all-metal construction offers more durability. O-8 speeds are average and most stand mixers come with 3 standard attachments (whisk, dough hook, and beater). Some models have a convenient timer onboard to remove the guesswork and a splash guard to prevent spills. A motor that ramps up to the speeds will help protect the unit. Models with hubs to connect optional accessories are the most functional. Warranties tend to vary between brands, but some do offer longer periods. A Stand Mixer Has its Limitations While you would expect a high-wattage mixer to easily handle any dough, they do have limitations. Even the best mixers have trouble handling very stiff dough. When dough causes the motor to become sluggish and stall, your mixer is not designed to handle that capacity or denseness of dough. It's not unusual to finish kneading bread dough by hand, even with a powerful mixer. To prevent motor burnout, follow the manufacturer's guidelines as to how long to operate the mixer during a session. Keep in mind that not all mixers have built-in overload protection and they are not meant to run continually for long periods. Optional Stand Mixer Accessories Many models come with a hub to connect optional accessories including vegetable/meat grinder, pasta or sausage maker. Although these accessories add to the cost of a mixer, they do make it more functional and reduce the amount of appliances you need. However, they need sufficient power to operate these and you may want to consider the power level when purchasing your mixer. Where Quality Speaks - What Influences Price Since there's a wide price range for stand mixers, you should consider what influences price. A base model may only have one mixing action (middle), whereas a higher-priced unit will have a spiral or rotating action that covers a wide mixing area and gets closer to the side of the bowl. This action mixes better and pulls in the contents so there's less scraping needed. Generally, the more power, the more you can do with the mixer. More expensive units will also have more durable parts and all-metal construction. CAPACITY AND BOWL DESIGN Some mixers, go as high as 7.5 litres Unless you bake excessively every now and then it is entirely unnnessesary... 4.5 and 5 litres are pocket friendly to some caterers still. I term above ten litres as commercial mixers as how many regular caterers can afford to cough out over 100k for such equipment. For bowl shape, I prefer processor bowls with taller sides and a narrower base. Wide-bottomed bowls means that when working with small amounts of ingredients, the whipping head may have trouble reaching it. Trying to whip anything less than say, four to five egg whites is an exercise in futility. Taller, narrower bowls also help ingredients fall towards the bottom of the bowl more easily and so require less frequent scraping. Tall narrow bowls do make it a bit harder to add ingredients while the machine is running, but the clear plastic lid guards with feed tubes that come with most decent models solve this problem handily. Other Considerations Depending on the cost of your mixer, you may want to consider an extended warranty ( This depends on if u get it brand new) Second hand/ tokunbo mixers atimes don't come with warranty from the sellers .. You can add yours and probably ask your mixer questions .. |

U don't need to buy anything....go start a baking class from anywhere close to you with great designs and tasty cakes.... Note some caterers can decorate but their cakes ain't tasty other bake good tasty cakes but their decoration is nothing to write home about... U need to learn the basics of cake baking and decoration When u start ur class as your course progresses you would know the instruments u need at that particular time.... After ur days class create time at home to practise what u learnt in class...cake baking and decoration needs constant practise. As ur class progress you would know the instruments to buy...different subjects require different instruments.. In my honest opinion it is only after u have done a basic training that the youtube videos would make sense to u...cos most of the videos its assume the person watching is already a baker...for instance if the tutor mentions dip star 2 tip or glaze icing ...if u don't have a basic background knowledge you won't know.... But if u fall into the exemption of those who are quick to grasp things quickly u can watch you tube videos go to the market describe the instrument or mention the name to the vendor he gives it to u to go back home and practise. The advantage of going somewhere they regularly make great cakes is the there is nothing like a practical experience....you would learn more. Wish u the best |
lifenajeje:Oops sorry my last line....u will learn stuffs ur boss did not put in ur syllabus....and the lady with the crumbs cake increase ur sugar like someone said cos the sugar incoporates air into ur batter. |
tpia1:First of all I must say nice thread....judt saw the polka dots designs in the cake for the first time...i will try it out this weekend... Like mamachops said a good sponge cake can Last for seven days....mine last for seven days....fruit cakes last much longer than that.... But dessert cakes are best eaten immediately..... Asides mixtures what I know makes sponge cakes not to last is cos some caterers don't allow their cake to cool 100% ...the heat inside would spoil the cake and in such case scenario even a refrigerator cant save your cake.... For the lady with cake bringing out crumbs mamachops said it all but in addition to that use small eggs for ur measurement not the very big eggs ...20 is best for measurement but u not less than 16...its actually size 3 eggs ...if u want ur cake to be fluffy use an electronic whisk for ur eggs(u can get it for 2000) whisk till it forms a peak when u insert a spoon. I have tasted all drinks in making fruit cake but I will tell u cos I have a very strong taste bud....if u can get a good supply of original squadron its tastier compared to brandy.... In getting the best out of your cake flavours buy industrial flavours and taste them cos atimes it is mixed in the market....use natural ingredients when the need arises instead of the packed ones ..ie natural nutmeg ..natural orange zest(back of orange ) instead of orange flavours...the natural stuff enhances taste better. Have an open mind ...be innovative...creative...go for seminars....use google....learn something new .....if there is any new product in the market don't be afraid to try it.... Lastly if u want to learn cake making be sure u go somewhere close that makes cake on a regular basis with decorations that speak volume and cakes that taste good(some can decorate but make bad cakes vice versa) making cake on a regular basis gives u more opportunity to learn and your boss will learn stuffs that are not on your syllabus .... |
All u need is a positive altitude towards the child.... My friend and his inlaws have always maintained a positive altitude towards his wife/ daughter......she is 36 with 3 children and for over 15 years she had crises just twice. |
agarawu23:If u are based in Lagos am up to the challenge.......but if u are not carry out a blind mans test. |
agarawu23:Salt alone does not give perfect taste stop arguing and carry out a blind man test....who tell u say village people no dey use seasoning....I dey see Dem for my village and other communities wet I don visit south east and west... |
NO CAUSE FOR ALARM... You can have ur dream wedding....by strategizing and scheming things to go your way.... Fix your wedding date on an environmental sanitation day during the raining season. If you can get her pastors or any pastor to wed u at the venue of ur reception better...before people will leave their plus these factors inclusive ...rain ...traffic..etc... They will be discouraged or will arrive late...when the wedding guest had started leaving....for this to be successful your bride to be has to stay in a hotel close to reception....u can pay hotel accommodation for the pastors as well.. On the other hand OP if its the cost implication you are afraid of..... There are wedding vendors that can give you cheaper but quality services.....from ur cakes...dj.....caterers....decorations...and it would still look like u spent money...cos that cake for 150 someone can make it tastier and better for 80 k....food of 1500 per head another vendor can give u for 700 per head and it would still taste better....decorations for 200k can still be done for 60 k by another vendor.... I can help u as a Nairalander to plan the above....cos the second point wont piss off ur inlaws...all is going to plans in their eyes according to them but you are strategizing to cut cost..... I will even advise you to make a budget for ur wedding and ur wife's travelling expenses same time..... You can reach me on 07038149252 |
Op point of correction its called seasoning not maggi as maggi is a brand name....am a Knorr fan..forget Knorr chicken...beef etc..nothing like the ordinary Knorr... To the topic...what is appealing to you is not to others... Food taste better when seasoned or spiced. I cook with and without seasing depending on what am eating and how I want the food to taste. There is no need for argument...... Carry out a blind man's test.. It implies cook same food using same heat..same ingredients...same time ...one with salt and the other with salt and seasoning....serve it in two separate labelled bowls A&B ...blindfold fifty persons and ask them to taste...you can interchange the bowl to serve from first repeatedly... Let them tell u which is tastier.... I made a sugarless ice cream for a friend once he keeps coming back for more...y...cos what is appealing to you is not to others |
