Dubai Police have seized $40.9m in cash and more than a dozen luxury cars in the arrest of Nigerian IG celebrity, Hushpuppi, accused of online fraud and money laundering.

In a video shared by the police, officers explained how they arrested Nigerian gang leader Raymond Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi.

Hushpuppi’s principal scam was to create websites that looked identical to well-known companies and banks, it is alleged.

He and his accomplices then used emails and messages to prompt people to log in or make payments on the fake sites.



The gang hacked corporate emails and directed huge payments by companies towards accounts they controlled.

Olalekan Jacob Ponle, known as Woodberry, was also arrested along with ten other men in an operation involving six police SWAT teams.

Along with 13 luxury cars, valued at an estimated $6.8m, police confiscated 21 computers and 47 smartphones.

The gang had 119,580 “fraud files” as well as addresses of more than 1.92 million victims.

Hushpuppi posed as a real estate investor and businessman, with more than two million followers on Instagram.

His account shows a lavish display of wealth, landing at Atlantis, The Palm in a helicopter and flying across the globe by private yet.

At a wedding in Dubai attended by Nigerian celebrities that made headlines in his home country, he was seen in a video dancing around the room throwing $100 notes into the air.

Abbas posed as a successful businessman “celebrating his wealth via social media platforms, in an attempt to lure victims from all over the world,” Dubai Police CID chief Brig Jamal Al Jalaf said.

A senior prosecutor told The National: “They would send out letters from email addresses almost identical to those of legitimate companies, targeting customers of these companies, with the purpose of diverting payments to themselves.

“Initial information includes that he was part of this gang which fraudulently obtained cash and cars from people.

“His statement was taken by prosecution but this is just the beginning of prosecution investigations.”

Abbas was wanted for fraud in Europe, the US and Nigeria.

Abbas was extradited to the US state of Pennsylvania this week.

Nigerians on social media have taken to different platforms to blast man identified as, Mr Chidiebere Ogbonna, who reportedly returned #1.8 million he found in a carton of indomie noodles he bought. The carton was only partially filled with noodles coupled with bundles of #1000 notes.
According to him, he got home, opened the carton and when he saw what was inside, he immediately returned it back. When he was asked his reasons for returning the cash, he said the money was not his, so there was no reason for him to keep it.

The vendor who could not hold back his joy, thanked him and told the man to come and collect a carton of indomie whenever he needs it till December.

Nigerian Aviation unions have expressed their displeasure with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency’s decision to slash the salary of workers in the month of June.

The union warned that the failure to pay full salaries to NAMA’s workers would amount to gross embarrassment, not only to the aviation industry but to the whole country.

It advised NAMA against the decision, promising that there would be grave consequences.

The workers made their stance known in a joint letter signed by the General Secretary of Nigeria Union of Air Transport Employees, Ocheme Aba, and the secretaries of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals and Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical.

The letter read in part, “Going forward, we are compelled to suggest that the management be properly guided on how to address issues that concern salaries of our members in the agency.”

An undergraduate student of Unilag who was allegedly mocked for losing her virginity, has been linked to the gang-rape of her two female friends by 7 boys.

The conversation between Brooks and Officer Garrett Rolfe starts out cordial. Rolfe suspects Brooks had been drinking and driving, although when cops came on scene Brooks was not driving … he had fallen asleep in his car.

Rolfe is trying to get Brooks to admit he had been drinking and driving, pressing him to take a field sobriety test. Brooks says he had a few drinks during his daughter’s birthday party, but that was it.
Brooks makes it clear … he doesn’t want trouble and agreed to leave his car behind and walk home. Rolfe clearly views that comment as a confession Brooks is unable to drive.
Eventually, Brooks takes the test and the officer tries to handcuff him, and that’s when a struggle ensues.
Again, Brooks was able to grab one of the officer’s tasers and run, so the officers knew a man accused of a non-violent misdemeanor was running away from them with a NON-LETHAL weapon, yet Brooks was shot 3 times.
The family lawyer is indignant the cops waited more than 2 minutes to even check on Brooks once he was down.

Huge crowds of Black Lives Matter protesters have gathered outside Oriel College at the University of Oxford this evening to campaign for a statue of the imperialist Cecil Rhodes to be torn down.

The demonstration has been organised by the Rhodes Must Fall Oxford campaign group and comes after activists identified 60 UK statues they want removed for ‘celebrating slavery and racism’ as councils and museums rushed to bring down their controversial monuments after Edward Colston’s was toppled in Bristol.

At tonight’s Oxford protest, organisers placed chalk crosses on the floors in either side of the street outside the entrance to the college, to enforce social distancing.

The crowd took to their knees for eight minutes 46 seconds, to reflect the time Mr Floyd, a father-of-two, spent with a police officer kneeling on his neck which killed him in America last month.

Hours before the rally began Oxford City Council’s leader Susan Brown wrote to Oriel College inviting them to apply for planning permission to remove the statue, after 26 councillors signed a letter saying it is ‘incompatible’ with the city’s ‘commitment to anti-racism’.

Councillor Brown said: ‘Typically such actions are only allowed in the most exceptional of circumstances. But these are exceptional circumstances, and as a city council we are keen to work with Oriel to help them find the right balance between the laws that protect our historic buildings and the moral obligation to reflect on the malign symbolism of this statue.’

Oriel College has said it will ‘continue to debate’ the issue – but did not commit to removing it.

Ndjodi Ndeunyema, an Oxford University law student and a former Rhodes scholar, organised tonight’s Oxford rally after starting the Rhodes Must Fall campaign for its removal five years ago, and said today: ‘The statue remaining is an affront on the university’s support for movements such as Black Lives Matter. Rhodes is not worth of veneration or glorification because of the racism and subjugation he represents’.

Some of Briton’s most famous people are on the hit list revealed today including slave-trading West India Docks founder Robert Milligan at the Museum of London, the Edinburgh statue of former Home Secretary Henry Dundas who delayed the abolition of slavery, and a statue of Sir Francis Drake on Plymouth Hoe.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday berated the President Buhari-led federal government over moves to import herbal treatment from Madagascar.

No fewer than 19 people have died after an Iranian destroyer accidentally opened fire on one of its own warships in a friendly fire accident, according to reports.



The accident happened during a training exercise in the Gulf of Oman, killing 19 and leaving 15 injured.

The Jamaran, a frigate, had been attempting to hit a target with one of its Noor cruise missiles when it accidentally struck a support ship named Konarak instead. The Konarak had been placing targets for the Janaran to hit but remained too close to one of them causing the missile to lock on to it by mistake, state-run media said.



The Iranian navy initially reported that one person had died and several were injured during a naval exercise.





However, it has now emerged 19 people have died and several other naval service personnel are missing following the sinking, local media has claimed.



Unconfirmed posts on social media claimed dozens had been killed in a friendly fire incident during the exercise.

Local media has said the battleship was inadvertently hit by a C-802 Noor missile from Iran’s Jamaran frigate in the Gulf of Oman, causing it to sink.
