The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) allegedly sent a patient who tested positive to the deadly coronavirus pandemic back home because the hospital didn’t have a bed space for him.



According to SaharaReporters, the man named Emmanuel Benson (one of the men pictured above), had close contact with two persons that recently arrived Lagos from the United Kingdom.



On March 21, Benson tested positive for coronavirus at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, but was allegedly told to go home by medical personnel.



Benson, who had hoped to be quarantined and treated at LUTH, was asked to go back home over lack of bed space to admit him at the facility.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus, the government has said.

The Prime Minister of UK, Mr Johnson has mild symptoms and will self-isolate in Downing Street, after being tested at No 10 by NHS staff.

“He was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty,” a statement said.

The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of all public and private schools due to the coronavirus outbreak to take effect from Monday, March 23, 2020

The decision was contained in a statement Wednesday night by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo.

She said the move became necessary to prevent children and their teachers from getting more vulnerable.

“It is important for parents to ensure that their children practise ‘social distancing’ while at home, wash their hands regularly or use hand sanitisers and observe high standards of personal hygiene.

“Children should be encouraged to remain at home. The closure is not intended to create panic but to arrest the spread of the disease, which has become a global threat,” it read.

The first results of the 312,000 candidates that sat for Saturday’s 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) nationwide have been released, says Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

Another case of the novel Coronavirus disease has been confirmed in Lagos State, Nigeria.


The state’s Commissioner of Health, Akin Abayomi, revealed this at a press briefing on Tuesday.

Her identity is given as a 30-year-Nigerian lady and her case is “independent of the index case”.

She returned from the UK on March 13 and was under self-isolation, where she developed symptoms and eventually tested positive.

This development comes days after the state government confirmed that the second case was now free of the virus.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, has warned the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, against treating the traditional institution in Yorubaland with levity.

Alaafin said unlike in some tribes, where there was nothing attached to their traditional institutions, the Yoruba traditional institution was “ancestral and spiritual.”

The monarch stated this in a letter to the state governor dated March 12, 2020, following a query issued by Fayemi to some prominent traditional rulers in the state over alleged insubordination.

Fayemi, in the query issued individually to the affected traditional rulers by the Bureau on Chieftaincy Affairs dated March 11, gave the monarchs 72 hours within which to reply.

The query, which was entitled, “Re: Absence from State Functions and Council of Traditional Rulers’ Monthly Meetings,” was signed by A.O. Adeoye on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the bureau.

However, in a letter reacting to the query, the Alaafin said he wrote on behalf of other prominent traditional rulers in Yorubaland, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona; and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo Adedotun.

A pipeline reportedly owned by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in Abule-Soba community of Lagos state, exploded this morning.



The explosion was so loud that residents of Surulere, Amuwo Odofin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Alimosho and environs felt the impact. The explosion left some of the windows shattered and ceilings pulled off.

Scores of people have been injured following the explosion in Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Sunday.

It was learnt that the impact of the explosion destroyed some buildings.

As of the time of filing this report, the suspected cause of the explosion, the casualty figure and the number of buildings affected could not be ascertained.

A resident, Aliu Jimoh, said two fire service trucks had arrived the scene of the explosion but the fire was yet to be put out, adding that scores of people had been injured.

He said, “There is a problem in Abule Ado right now, a pipeline has exploded and many buildings have collapsed, including a school. We don’t know if people are in the building or not.”

The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Nosa Okunbor, added, “A team is heading to Abule Ado, trade fair axis for investigation of the alleged pipeline explosion. We are awaiting details and preliminary reports. Please avoid speculations.”

Kaduna state Governor Nasir El-Rufai has departed Kaduna city for Awe Local Government, Nasarawa State to visit the dethroned Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi

El-Rufai stated this in Facebook post on Friday accompanied by a picture in his car.

The governor has been a friend of the emir for decades.

Abuja Federal High Court Justice Anwuili Chikere has ordered the immediate release of dethroned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from confinement/detention in Awe community in Nasarawa state.



Sanusi had filed the suit before the court challenging his confinement in a two-bedroom apartment in Awe community. Recall that after his dethronemnet on Monday March 9th, he was moved to Nasarawa state.



Delivering judgement this morning, the court directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Attorney General of Kano State and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) – who are all named as respondents in a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on March 12th by Sanusi, to immediately ensure his release from the confinement.

“An interim order of this honourable court releasing the applicant from the detention and or confinement of the respondents and restoring the applicant’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria, (apart from Kano State) pending the hearing and determination of the applicant’s originating summons.” the judge said



The judge also ordered that the order for the release of the deposed monarch should be served on the respondents to the application.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai, of Kaduna state on Wednesday appointed the deposed Emir of Kano as the Chancellor of the Kaduna State University.

El-Rufai made the appointment barely 24 hours after he appointed the former Emir into the board of the state investment promotion agency.

The governor, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Mr Muyiwa Adekeye, said the deposed emir succeeded the pioneer Chancellor of KASU, Mallam Tagwai Sambo, the Chief of Moro’a in Southern Kaduna.

He stated “The Kaduna State Government has named His Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the Chancellor of the Kaduna State University barely 24 hours after he was made the Vice Chairman of Kaduna State Investment Promotion Agency.

“Sanusi II succeeds the pioneer Chancellor, His Highness, Malam Tagwai Sambo, the Chief of Moro’a, who was appointed to the role in 2005.”

The statement stated further that the appointment was based on the fact that “in public life, His Highness has demonstrated a strong commitment to education.

Lagos State Ministry of Health has confirmed its first case of the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), incidentally the first in Nigeria and in West Africa since the outbreak in China in January 2020.

This was contained in a statement released Friday morning by the state Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi.

It is the second confirmed case in Africa following one recently recorded in Algeria in North Africa.

The novel virus is fast spreading, having been reported in over 20 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and lately in Africa.

Like the case confirmed in Algeria, the victim, an Italian traveller, arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday from Milan on a business trip.

The victim used the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos.

The victim whose name was not identified is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.


The Lagos State Goernment said it has reported it to the Federal Ministry of Health.

The statement from the government read, “The case is an Italian citizen who entered Nigeria on the 25th of February from Milan, Italy for a brief business visit.

“He fell ill on the 26th February and was transferred to Lagos State Biosecurity Facilities for isolation and testing. COVID-19 infection was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

“The patient is clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.”

The state government said it is working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and other preparedness groups to ensure the case is effectively managed out of circulation.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Thursday, indicted the Federal Ministry of Health for not putting serious measures in place to prevent the outbreak of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Twerking, kissing, caressing themselves as well as using vulgar languages has been the order of the day as if those are included in their new syllabus used to teach.

In a new video sighted, two students could be seen in a romantic way as the girl locked lips with her colleague(boy) beside a car on the streets during school hours.

Unfortunately for the girl, her father surprisingly was passing by the school’s area and saw her seriously kissing and caressing her colleague.

The man livid with anger rushed to the scene and immediately dished out his belt to mercilessly beat his daughter. The boy, on the other hand, took to his heels after sensing danger.

Without mercy, the man whipped his daughter in front of the public as he dragged her home.

This is coming few days after a disturbing video of some female secondary school student giving her male colleague a lap dance in class while other students cheered them on was shared online.

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll, who is the Sultan of Sokoto, has declared that God was using insurgency in the Northern part of the country to punish Nigerians for their sins.

Abubakar said Nigerians must learn to adhere to the teachings of the Quran and the Bible to escape God’s wrath.

The monarch stated this at the 5th International Conference on “Love and Tolerance: Countering Violent Extremism for Peaceful Coexistence” in Abuja, on Thursday.

Represented by the Emir of Jiwa, Dr. Idris Musa, the Sultan of Sokoto stated that the challenge of insurgency would come to an end when Nigerians stop committing sin.
