Senior advocate, of Nigeria (SAN) and father of singer, Falz, Femi Falana, says Abubakar Malami risks being removed as the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) if he fails to secure the release of Omoyele Sowore.



Last Friday, Malami took over Sowore’s case from the Department of State Services (DSS), and with this development, Falana, counsel to the activist, asked him to use his office to secure Sowore’s release.



The AGF, however, said he cannot take any decision on Sowore’s release. Responding in a statement on Tuesday, Falana said the AGF has not taken note of the legal implications of taking over the case.

“With respect, Mr. Malami has not taken cognizance of the legal implications of taking over a pending criminal case in exercise of the powers of an Attorney-General under the common law and the Constitution,” the statement read.

A viral story of a pregnant mother who died during childbirth because she together with her husband refused cesarean section on the instructions of their pastor.

According to the social media user who shared the news, the husband of the late woman is his friend and a couple of weeks ago, the wife was informed during a scan that due to some complications coupled with the child’s weight, she has to give birth through cesarean section.



When the pastor of the couple who married just last year was informed about the scan results and recommendations from the doctor, he advised them against it.

The pastor assured them God wants then to give birth as a natural couple and not short cuts through a cesarean section which he described as wrong just like many other pastors describe it as evil.

Well, the wife went into labor last week and neither the mother or the baby came out alive. Both died attempting to give birth the natural way against the doctor’s advice.

The case of journalist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore have been taken over by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), from the Department of State Services.

A statement by the Malami’s Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr. Umar Gwandu, confirmed this on Friday.

The statement referred to a December 11, 2019 letter sent on behalf of the AGF by the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Mr. Dayo Apata (SAN), to the Director-General of DSS, Yusuf Bichi, directing the security agency to “promptly forward all the case files” to the AGF office.

The letter by Apata, who doubles as the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, was a response to a September 9, 2019 letter sent to the AGF.

The statement by the media aide to the AGF reads in part, “The Solicitor-General of the Federation and the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Dayo Apata, SAN, who signed the letter, referred to a letter from the DSS office on September 9, 2019.”

President Buhari’s Special Adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adebayo, has reacted to the decision by Punch Newspaper to henceforth start referring to President Buhari as General Buhari and his administration as regime.



In a notice released this morning by Punch, titled “Buhari’s lawlessness: Our Stand”, Punch stated that it will “henceforth prefix Buhari’s name with his rank as a military dictator in the 80s ‘Major General’ and refer to his administration as a regime until they purge themselves of their insufferable contempt for the rule of law.”

A Nigerian Army have once again be thrown into mourning as a commander was killed on Saturday after an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Marte, Borno State.

Military sources told PREMIUM TIMES the army major, who was the commander of 153 Task Force Battalion in Marte Local Government Area, was leading a patrol of the unit’s perimeter when the bomb went off Saturday evening.

It was gathered that the officer was the only one immediately confirmed killed in the attack. It was unclear whether some of his troops, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, were injured or killed during the patrol.

The Department of State Service have been given 24 hours ultimatum by the Federal High in Abuja to release the Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu gave the order at the scheduled commencement of the defendants’ trial on charges of treasonable felony.

Miss Ukraine in 2018 is taking legal action against the organizers of Miss World contest after she was banned for having a child.

Veronika Didusenko, 24, was crowned Miss Ukraine in 2018 but stripped of her title four days later when it was revealed she was divorced with a son.

She should have gone on to represent her country in the Miss World finals but was banned from taking part and replaced by another contestant.

Veronika claims bosses of the UK-owned Miss World franchise are in breach of the Equalities Act 2010 and has demanded they change their “outdated” entry rules.

17-year-old boy identified simply as Williams, has been arrested for stealing tubers of yam from a farm in Issele-Uku in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Southern City News gathered that the teenager dug up almost the entire tubers in the farm overnight, leaving the owner, Mr Chiedu Mordi, with nothing.

The suspect was said to have been caught on Saturday by the vigilante group, which had been patrolling the area to ensure security.

The vigilante group was said to have trailed the suspect to where he hid the yams in the bush, while making arrangement with a vehicle to evacuate them.




An Issele-Uku palace source confirmed that the suspect, who was later identified as Williams, was brought to the palace after he was apprehended by the vigilantes.

The source explained that the suspect had been in the habit of stealing tubers of yam in people’s farms until he was caught.
