1. Can you pay the taxes that the average Canadian pays , at the same rate?

2.Canada has less than 30 million people....Nigeria has 200million people. And our annual budget is far less than what Canada spends on prinary school educaiton in their country.

3.Canada has an actively exporting industrial sector. Nigeria....all of you guys think of economics is that 'we export raw materials to the West, and share the money to import stuff from the same West.'. You won't vote for polticans who would stimulate industrial growth because it means an end to spoon feeding welfare politics.

4.Canda's GDP: 1.653 TRILLION dollars. (2017). Nigeria's GDP : 375.8million. Now keep in mind Canda has 30million people compared to Nigeria's 200 MILLION .

If you want Canada level...you have to be willing to pay at Canada level.

Actually, this is not a fair comparison.

International students pay an average of 3million naira in Canada per year but Nigerian schools charge an average of say 100k. (Rough estimates)

It's called getting exactly what you pay for. Good class rooms, but it's no big deal.
don't be naive and ignorant.. Tuitions is actually free or almost because the government takes care by subsidizing educational expenses the only difference is u pay heavily as a non citizen or if u aren't married to a citizen...

Can ur government provide free education? How much is education budget? And how is maintenance and upgrading including sustainable ideas to improve....

Please enlighten ursef before rubbishing and advertising ursef as ignorant..Most countries in Europe even offer free tuitions irregardless except for professional courses...

Before u quote me and say poo I'm living abroad now 15years and long before that i have been travelling in and out..Although i was schooling in naija and even went to the first private university in naija before the proliferation of the likes..i also know how public schools function and look like...

Politics / Re: Buratai: Spiritual Efforts Needed To Defeat Boko Haram by Livefreeordieha(m): 8:05pm On Sep 30, 2019
Omooba77:
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has said that terrorism and terrorist groups could not be eliminated alone by the military unless religious bodies and organisations in the country come to the “forefront of this spiritual battle.”

The army chief noted that the focus must be religious groups interfacing on addressing the ideologies which fuelled the Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

Buratai stated these on Monday in Abuja at a spiritual warfare seminar at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre with the theme, “countering insurgency and violent extremism in Nigeria through spiritual warfare.”

The army chief, who was represented by the Chief of Administration, Maj Gen Sani Yusuf, therefore, urges Islamic and Christian clerics across the army formations to join the fight against terrorism, and reorient the people against negative ideologies.

Buratai said, “It is easier to defeat Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists than their ideology because while we degrade the terrorists and their havens, the narrative of the ideology grows the group.

“Therefore, communities, families, and groups should join in the fight and narratives to reject and prevent the ideologies of the terrorists and extremist groups.

“Religious bodies and organisations in particular who interface regularly with the grassroots should be at the forefront of this spiritual battle and fashion out ways of stepping up their roles.

“The fight against terrorism, Boko Haram and ISWAP, as well as other security threats, cannot be left to the troops in the battlefield alone. Yes, we will do our duties but the need to tackle groups through spiritual warfare and reorientating the followers against the ideology is also a necessity.

“It is a well-known fact that terrorism and terrorist groups cannot be totally eliminated by mainly military actions. This means focusing our efforts on the underlying narratives through ideologies that are employed by these terrorists to lure innocent citizens to their fold.

“The need to defeat the ideologies of Boko Haram and ISWAP is based on the awareness that it is the ideologies that enhance their resources and help to recruit new fighters to their fold and as such; kill their ideology and the terrorist movement withers and dies.”

The army chief added that religious leaders and clerics who regularly interfaced with members of the society must “fashion out ways of stepping up your roles, remembering that the fight against terrorism is a collective responsibility.”

Politics / Re: Sowore: Court's Order For Activist's Release No Longer Has Life - DSS by Livefreeordieha(m): 5:38pm On Sep 30, 2019
xristos:
- The Department of State Service (DSS) has said that the Federal High Court's order for the release of Omoleye Sowore is no longer valid considering the current arraignment
- The DSS also denied claims that it denied Sowore and his co-defendant access to their lawyers
- However, A. Olumide, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who is holding brief for Femi Falana, Sowore's counsel, said that the defendant was denied access to his lawyer.

The Department of State Service (DSS) has denied claims that the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant was not allowed access to their lawyers.
The DSS denial followed an allegation by A. Olumide, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who is holding brief for Femi Falana, Sowore's counsel, that the defendants were not allowed access to their lawyers prior to their arraignment on Monday, September 30.

The counsel for the DSS, Hassan Liman, said, contrary to Olumide's claim, the charge sheet was made available to the defendants on September 20, which is 10 days ago.
- DSS Liman also said that it will be a disservice to the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) to say that the prosecution failed to allow the defendants access to their lawyers prior to arraignment. He also noted that the judgement of the court which the defence counsel had referred to in his allegation was made by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, pending arraignment.
Liman said: "With respect to the defendant's arraignment, this order no longer has any life." He also accused the defence and their counsel of playing to the gallery and using the press against the DSS.

Furious over Liman's submission, Olumide said his colleague gave wrong information to the court.
He also said there was no interaction between the defendants and their counsel prior to the arraignment. He added that orders of the court must be obeyed before anyone can come to the same court for other benefits.

Olumide said that it was only late Sunday, September 29, that the defence team, through the pages of newspapers, found out that Sowore has allegedly been served papers for arraignment. "It was also on the pages of newspapers that my learned colleague, Falana, got to know that his client has been 'served'. "They are the ones running to the media and playing to the gallery, my lord," a seemingly angry Olumide told the court.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the DSS on Friday, September 27, stopped Sowore's lawyers from accessing its Abuja office. The counsels were at the office to present documents showing that he met the bail conditions for the treason and money laundering charges that were levelled against him.

Politics / Re: In Major Crackdown, Customs Shut Car Dealers Across Lagos by Livefreeordieha(m): 7:33am On Sep 30, 2019
Omooba77:
In continuation of its war on smuggling in line with the closure of land borders across the country, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in a major crackdown yesterday shutdown some car marts suspected to have smuggle vehicles into the country through the land borders.

THISDAY gathered that members of the Comptroller General of the service’s strike force and officers attached to the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Ikeja stormed the popular Berger along Apapa-Oshodi Express Road and other major car dealers’ premises across Lagos in search of smuggled vehicles and subsequently shut down the car marts until further notice.

It was learnt that the car marts were closed on the orders of the Comptroller General of the Service, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), for allegedly retailing smuggled vehicles in the shops.

The Customs Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah, who confirmed the development to THISDAY yesterday, however, denied that car dealers who are not involved in selling smuggled cars were shut down.

According to him, “Yes a number of car marts were shutdown based on credible information that there were smuggled vehicles in these car marts, but the sealing is just temporary. As from this week we will assess the situation and advised them accordingly as to what they should do.”

Asked how many dealers were shutdown, he said, “As of now I don’t have the numbers but those not involved in any bad business were not shutdown. But I can confirm that some numbers have been shutdown. Within the week, customs will take a look at the records of each vehicle in these car marts and appropriate actions will be taken.

Attah who also confirmed that no arrests were made added that the action was not taken to inflict harm on anyone but to ensure that government gets its due revenue.

“The target is not really to bring any unnecessary hardship to any individual, the idea is to see the possibility of either seizure or recovery of revenue for such vehicles,” he added.

When THISDAY contacted the managing director of one of the companies affected, he said car dealing marts were stormed in a Gestapo style with four trucks load of customs officers who pasted closure notices on their premises and asked that they report to the FOU today.

“All car dealers in Lagos were shutdown, Affordable Cars Limited, Carlink Limited, InehmicAutos, Globe Motors, COSCHARIS and Skymit Motors, Arrowhead Motors, Wonder Wheels Motors, Auto Point Motors and any name that you can think of were all shutdown. Even Stallion Motors was affected. The only one I cannot confirm is Toyota Nigeria Limited or Elizade Motors.

“They came and put a sticker, sealed off the place and said come to FOU in Ikeja. That was all. No information or notices. It was not as if they came and found smuggled cars in our premises. They didn’t even ask for anything. Globe Motors and Inehmic were the first place they went to around 7a.m. They came to my place in the evening. One will expect that they will at least ask for documents but nothing, they just sealed off the place,” he said.

Another car dealer whose mart was shut around Oregun said his documents were up to date.

The dealer, Chukwudi Nwachukwu, said he was surprised that his stand was shut down by the service.

“I was shocked when my mart was shut. I operate at Oregun and I can tell you that my documents are up to date. In fact, am printing my documents to take to FOU, Ikeja for them to unsealed my business,” he added.

One of the dealers with link with a global brand told THISDAY that the company imported its vehicles through official channels and had documents to prove the legitimacy of its transactions.

The source from the company said they would find out from Customs what went wrong when they honour the invitation to appear before the FOU today.

Family / Re: My Wife Tricked Into Marrying Her After Discovering She is HIV Positive by Livefreeordieha(m): 3:04pm On Sep 27, 2019
Hobbsandshaw:
I need mature advice from nairalanders.

I got married to my wife December,2015. The marriage is now blessed with two boys, the 2nd boy came last month.

The issue now is that I just discovered my wife is HIV positive during this 2nd pregnancy. The woman that I showed so much love tricked me into marrying her knowing fully well that she was HIV positive. I'm not really angry because she is HIV positive,I'm angry because she has been playing me all along.

She was in the Uni in another state while we were dating.Almost to the end of her study in 2014, she called that she was pregnant after I visited. She came to Lagos with PT and scan results to prove her claim. She then pressured me into paying her bride price before the pregnancy become public. We did our traditional marriage and went to the registry.Months after the marriage,my wife said the pregnancy has mysteriously disappeared, blaming it on "village people",but the gentle man in me didn't allow me to read any meaning to the movie. She tricked me into marrying her with the fake pregnancy after discovering she is HIV positive.

She eventually took in(for real this time),she came back from antenatal one afternoon crying, when I enquired what the issue was, she told me that they booked her for C-SECTION,that the doctor said the baby's weight is below 2kg and will almost be impossible for her to have the baby by herself,I was there consoling her not knowing that the doctor opted for C-SECTION because she is HIV positive. She actually told them not to disclose her status to me.The baby was 3.6kg at birth. My son was giving Nevirapine.I did some search and discovered that the drug is an antiretroviral drug,I became worried but I still played it down.

Her lid finally blew when she started antenatal for this my 2nd son in a different hospital, maybe she might have thought to herself that at this point there is nothing I will do any more, she told me that the doctor referred her to a government hospital for HIV confirmatory test.We went and did the test,I don't know the trick she played this time, the result was non reactive for her, me and our son.I went to the hospital and made Alot of noise,we went home and celebrated.Seven months later, she had an accident and was admitted, the doctor not satisfied with result of our confirmatory test, took her sample and send it to one of the best labs in Lagos, all the kits shows she was reactive.Because of the scene I created earlier, the doctor called me and showed me the result. That was when I started playing back to the first pregnancy scam, the rush for the marriage and the Nevirapine that was giving to my first son and I discovered I was being fooled by this woman all along.

This woman has hid her status from me and have been taking drugs under my nose for over five years without me knowing.I and my boy have gone for test twice at seven months interval and we are confirmed negative. I was told at one teaching hospitals I went for the test last month that maybe I'm just lucky or we are "discordant couple"
I have been expecting her to show remorse, and maybe apologize but she is still doing as if nothing happened.

I can't discuss this with my family or even hers, she will be stigmatize.I feel betrayed,I don't know how long I will stay in this marriage, but then I'm concerned about my boys. I'm afraid she might get desperate and try other means to infect me,I don't trust her.
What should I do?

Politics / Re: Kogi West : Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Dino Melaye’s Appeal by Livefreeordieha(m): 6:27am On Sep 25, 2019
9jahotblog:
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday reserved judgment
in three separate appeals brought before it by Senator Dino
Melaye challenging the decision of the National Assembly
Election Petition Tribunal, which, last month quashed his
election as the Senator Representing Kogi West Senatorial
District at the National Assembly.
The three separate appeals were brought by the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC ) and Dino Melaye, praying the appellate
court to set aside the majority decision of the tribunal and
restore the victory of Dino Melaye.
Justice Abubakar Datti Yahaya, who presided over the
three-member panel of Justices of the Court of Appeal that
sat on the appeals announced that the date for the delivery
of judgement would be communicated to parties as it is
fixed.
PDP, represented by Jubrin Okutepa (SAN) in his final
argument prayed the Appeal Court to set aside the majority
decision of the tribunal against Melaye on the ground of
denial of fair hearing and refusal to evaluate evidence
adduced during the hearing of the petition.
The party claimed that the tribunal failed to evaluate the
testimonies of its witnesses while no reference was made to
all the documentary evidence it supplied before the tribunal
came to a wrong conclusion of over voting, even when the
petitioner did not tender voter register.
The party, on its platform that Dino contested and won the
election, urged the Court of Appeal to invoke section 16 of
the Court of Appeal Act and dismiss the appeal for lacking
in merit.
In the second appeal filed by INEC, through its lawyer, Kola
Olowokere, the Appeal Court was urged to dismiss the
allegation of mutilation of election results and favouring a
particular candidate as alleged by the petitioner, Senator
Smart Adeyemi.
The electoral body argued that finding of over voting by the
tribunal was wrong and baseless because the voter register
and result of election in 2015 tallied with the result in the
disputed area.
The electoral body alleged that the tribunal did not evaluate
the exhibits it tendered to prove that there was no over
voting and pleaded that appeal be allowed.
In the third appeal filed by Dino Melaye and argued by Dr.
Onyeachi Ikpeazu (SAN), the appellate court was urged to
set aside the over voting decision of the tribunal because it
was based on hearsay instead of polling units agents’ result.
Ikpeazu drew the attention of the Justices to the fact that
only three witnesses were called, adding that the evidence
of the three witnesses based on hearsay cannot justify the
cancellation of the senatorial election.
Melaye’s counsel further submitted that mutilation of result
sheet was untenable because the final result of senatorial
election was endorsed by agents of the candidates and the
parties, and that the petitioners failed to establish that the
alleged mutilated result substantially affected the final result
collation.
However, Senator Adeyemi and the All Progressives
Congress (APC) pleaded with the appellate court to dismiss
the tree petitions because the petitioners were not denied
fair hearing and that the tribunal based its findings on over
voting on the report of INEC which comprehensively
contained the number of collected voter cards, unit by unit.
Adeyemi and APC through their counsel, Adekunle Otitoju,
argued that INEC bridged an order of the federal high court
to the effect that the senatorial election result must be
collated and announced in Kabba, the senatorial district
headquarters and not in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital as
done by the electoral body.
They alleged that while their agents were in Kabba waiting
for the collation, the INEC officials and agents of the
appellants allegedly colluded and secretly moved the result
collation to Lokoja where the result sheets were allegedly
mutilated to favour Melaye.
They insisted that mutilation of results, dated February 25
instead of February 23, was so apparent and that over voting
was so established that the petitioners won with over
48,000 votes.
They therefore urged the court to dismiss the appeal and
uphold the majority decision of the tribunal.
