Politics / Re: Ekiti To Get $500 Million World Bank Project, N18 Million To 19 Communities by Livefreeordieha(m): 9:01am On Sep 19, 2019
postbox:
Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday declared that the World Bank would shortly begin on some legacy projects across the state worth about 500 million dollars.

The Governor stated this in Ado Ekiti, the state capital while presenting cheques worth N180 million to 19 benefiting communities under the state’s self-help community development programme.

Tuesday’s presentation came barely six months after the state government doled out about N216 million to some communities for various self-help projects.

Governor Fayemi, at the presentation ceremony held at the Government House grounds, said his administration is determined to improve technical education by ensuring that all the technical colleges in the state are upgraded in its drive to improve skills development and education of the citizens.

The Governor said “I’m also pleased to inform you that no fewer than five World Bank projects would be starting in the state across many of the local governments within the next few months and all of these would cost about $500 million.

He assures that his administration would continue to bring remarkable improvement to the living condition of the people through value restoration adding that the grassroots would continue to benefit from this agenda.

Dr Fayemi said he would continue to collaborate with development partners to ensure that the people at the grassroots are not left out in the scheme of things.

“Today’s ceremony is one of the multiplier effects of the Ekiti State value restoration agenda of this administration, and we are poised to make a similar meaningful impact in every stratum of our society. As a government that wants both urban and rural developments, we paid our own counterpart fund to activate this World Bank project geared towards improving the living condition of people at the grassroots.

“When you entrusted the management of Ekiti State’s commonwealth in our care, we promised and assured you all that your welfare and well-being will be of paramount interest to us. We are here today to strengthen the bond and deliver one of our promises.” He said

While congratulating the benefitting communities, the governor enlightened them on the need to ensure judicious use of the money by following the World Bank standard. He advised all stakeholders in the project to carefully monitor the projects by ensuring its completion.

Dr Fayemi also explained that “I admonish you to make sure you use the money for the completion of the projects for the benefit of your people and follow the laid down rules and regulations of the World Bank so that other communities can benefit. The government will not hesitate to sanction any individual, group or community found wanting in the implementation of the selected and approved projects.

He, however, commended EKCSDA for its efforts towards actualizing the desired goals of rural development and advised them to work assiduously to ensure the best for the State.

Earlier, the chairman of the agency, Dr Yemi Alatise commended governor Fayemi for facilitating the World Bank’s support for developing the rural areas of the state through the various projects approved by World Bank. He further appreciated the cordial relationship between the governor and donor agencies which according to him has attracted a lot of developmental programme to the state.

Alatise said the agency scrutinized the various projects to ensure that they would boost the economy of the benefiting communities.

Responding on behalf of the 19 benefiting communities, Chief Gbenga Agbona from Ilawe Ekiti community appreciated the Governor for the gesture and promised that the communities would make judicious use of the fund.

Drug Test Imminent For New Applicants In Delsu

The management of the Delta State University maybe taking imminient steps to ensure a drug free learning environment. The management headed by the VC, Prof. VF Peretomode has commissioned all newly admitted applicants under the 2019/2020 academic session to be tested for drugs. This will help to clean the school of the plague parading herself as drug addiction amongst youths all the nation.

While this order is in effects, steps are also being taken to drive effective drug test in all faculty of the institute. The VC charged the students to shun drug misuse as depicted on the school official guide(Delsu Guide). Any applicants tested positive for drug intake will be dropped immediately.

Recall that Uniben conducted a drug test during her screening last year. Other schools are adopting this step to build a drug free nation.

Kudos to the Honourable VC

Politics / Re: Buhari Constitutes Economic Team: Charles Soludo, Others Get New Appointments by Livefreeordieha(m): 7:34pm On Sep 16, 2019
GboltNG:
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, in Abuja, approved the constitution of an Economic Advisory Council (EAC), Igbere TV reports.

A statement obtained by Igbere TV issued by Buhari’s Spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the council will replace the current Economic Management Team (EMT) and will be reporting directly to the President.

Igbere TV recalls that the now disbanded EMT had Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as chairman, who presides over the weekly meetings and receive reports from it directly. With the latest development, Osinbajo will no longer be in charge but Buhari.

“The Economic Advisory Council (EAC) will advise the President on economic policy matters, including fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.

“The EAC will have monthly technical sessions as well as scheduled quarterly meetings with the President. The Chairman may, however, request for unscheduled meetings if the need arises”, the statement issued by Adesina added.

The statement listed the following names as members of the newly constituted Council:

1. Prof. Doyin Salami – Chairman

2. Dr. Mohammed Sagagi – Vice-Chairman

3. Prof. Ode Ojowu – Member

4. Dr. Shehu Yahaya – Member

5. Dr. Iyabo Masha – Member

6. Prof. Chukwuma Soludo – Member

7. Mr. Bismark Rewane – Member

Other pointed out that even if the slain women were prostitutes, that doesn't excuse their murder.

The protest comes barely 24 hours after another female victim was found dead in an hotel room in the city of Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

sojiboy:
Text of broadcast by Governor Kayode Fayemi on the Violent Protest at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State

Ekitikete,

I have in the last few days agonised over the incident that took place at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

Until the multiple investigations are completed, I am necessarily constrained from talking about the details of what transpired. I however do not need to be constrained about the emotions a tragedy like this evokes.

Any death is a tragedy. Any shooting arising from legitimate protests diminishes our fledgling democratic dispensation and calls to question our commitment to fundamental human rights.

Having heard from all parties to the incident, it is pertinent that I now personally convey my deeply felt sorrow for the loss of two promising young lives and for those who suffered injuries.

To be sure, our government prides itself on its strict adherence to the rule of law. The right of citizens to protest on any issue relating to governmental actions or inactions is a fundamental component of our good governance agenda.

We could not therefore under any circumstances have directed that deadly force be used on any of our citizens freely expressing their right to protest.

Even before the conclusion of the investigations into this matter, we have taken a number of steps; a high level government delegation has visited the families of the deceased. This will not be a one-off intervention. We will stand firmly with, and support the families at this time. Those persons with varying degrees of injuries will also be given support whilst their hospital expenses will be defrayed by government.

I have directed the State Commissioner of Police to urgently commence an investigation into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate shooting incident with a view to identifying possible culprits within and outside the Force. Taken together with the ongoing investigation by the University management, we will consider the need for an independent panel of inquiry, if necessary once these fact finding investigations are concluded.

In the meantime, I have suggested to our police authorities to explore the use of non-lethal rubber bullets in managing public protests and the Nigerian Governors Forum will take this up at the highest levels in government.

I note the initial public statement by the University authorities and its Students Union body. We welcome the conclusion that neither the wife of the Governor nor any Government official directed the shootings. Indeed it is obvious that the wife of the Governor and those on her entourage are victims of this unfortunate incident.

The issue that led to the protest has been the subject of intense disagreement and negotiations with BEDC since I became Governor. Last week, my Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities was still in Benin to see BEDC management on the matter of inadequate and inconsistent supply of electricity in Ekiti State. Though Governors do not have any control over privatised power distribution companies, the four Governors from the states covered by the Benin DISCO have consistently expressed dissatisfaction with the services of BEDC and taken the matter up with the Vice President who chairs the Privatisation Council.

In addition to this, I have been talking to the Rural Electrification Agency about including FUOYE in the next round of their University Electrification Project.

I therefore appeal for calm and caution as we await the reports of the various investigations. No persons or group should attempt to use this tragic incident to destabilise the peace and progress of Ekiti State. It is time for sober reflection as we mourn the dead and care for the wounded.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Dr Kayode Fayemi, CON

Governor, Ekiti State.

UdechiHD:
A sensationalized topic is the usual norm in nairaland all to push traffic. Tribalism is fuelled here from time to time just to satisfy the monetary gains of some greedy owners.

What was posted here is similar to that posted in the Sun newspapers. Only that the intention here is demonic. The dude who killed his aunt is mentally deranged and had once tried to kill his Dad in Owo before he was sent back to the village. The yahoo boy tag he calls himself is purely insanity. How can a sane person kill his loved one and yet had the guts to call his Dad to claim a crime no one saw.
Sun newspapers, the nations newspaper and other advanced blogs in this country should be censored or shut down since they've become purveyors of hate.

In the case of nairaland, it's usually an habit to push tribalistic, violent and sexual threads to front page. Their job as Mod is only to enhance tribal and violent topic instead of the other duties.

The mods in order to a spite an ethnic group tribalised the thread in a bid to push traffic. This is a usual norm since a long time now by the selfish owners of this site. The so called hate speech clampdown should have started in nairaland before anywhere. You hardly see Linda Ikeji and other respectable blog engage in such tribal propaganda.

The seasonal pattern in nairaland is usually the same. The life cycle is transcient with the intention to always trend tribalism targeted at a scape goat tribe from time to time.

This years pattern started by the mods in making sure the herdsmen menance is sensationalized, all kidnapping and killings were pushed as the acts of Fulani.
Then, the yahoo boys menance began, now all is related or unrelated news is sensationalized as an Igbo affair.
Although there is a usually nairaland sponsored e-wars among the Yoruba's vs Igbo's, but a seasonal sponsored tribalism is usual pattern.
I won't be surprised if the Yahoo boy/Xenophobic case whittles down before the mods return to the skull mining in the west to push traffic.

Nairaland is anti-Nigeria, anti-patriotism and anti-unity. Division and tribalism drives this site.
Until someone is made to answer for their actions, including the tribal warlords, where government clamps down on all the hate sponsored blogs in this country, these nonsense will continue.

I won't be surprised if an agent bans me for saying the truth.

6 Nigerians have been arrested by the police in Meghalaya, India on Saturday for allegedly entering into the Asian country illegally through Bangladesh with night bus.

According to reports, the arrest of the Nigerian nationals brings to total number of foreign nationals arrested to nine within a span of two days, reports Sahara Reporters.

The Nigerians are Thomson Nwafama, 29, Chijioke Obiacha, 28, Desmond Uzochkwu, 25, Okoliegbe Henry Onyedika, 33, Okeke Justin, 32, and Chukwunyere Christian, 30.

East Jaiñtia Hill superintendent of police, Vivekanand Singh, said on Saturday that the six Nigerians travelling by night bus from Silchar to Guwahati, were detected and detained for interrogation, the Telegraph India reports.

He said,

“They admitted that they had travelled from Africa to Bangladesh on visas issued by competent authorities but had illegally entered India near Agartala on Friday."

From Agartala, they travelled by car to Silchar, and were assisted by residents of both Bangladesh as well as India, he added.

A case was registered at Lumshnong police station under the Foreigner’s Act.

On Friday, three foreign nationals were detained and arrested in the same district and also booked under the Foreigner’s Act.

The modus operandi adopted by the three — one from Ivory Coast and two from Nigeria — to enter India was the same as the one adopted by the six Nigerians.

Politics / Re: Nigerians In Trouble, As Fulani Herdsmen Threaten To Go On Strike by Livefreeordieha(m): 6:42am On Sep 15, 2019
Mrakeli:
Hajiya Baheejah Mahmood, the National Woman Leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has threatened that the Fulani Herdsmen may soon embarked on a strike.
She stated this on Saturday, in a statement made available to Journalists, in Bauchi State.

The statement reads:
A Fulani is a courageous, self-reliant, fearless and shy person who can be considered an introvert. The Fulani man does not interact and mingle so much with people of other languages and cultures. He prefers to be alone or with his animals or among his kith and kin. He feels intimidated with the presence of other people who he does not know, around him. Despite these though, the Fulani man is a sociable person who likes a lot of fashion and fashionable dressing in multi-colored attire. I consider the Fulani man a very enterprising and thorough person, tending to his herd every hour of the day and going in search of grazing lands to wherever the search might take him. The typical Fulani man is very straight forward and honest but will not stop at anything to defend himself, his family and herd against any predators; human or wild animals.
A Fulani woman on the other hand is a very respectful, obedient, shy and submissive woman to her husband and family. She does all the house chores from taking care of the children, cooking, and preparing and selling the cow milk and cheese. Traditionally, the Fulani woman is a full-time housewife who is fully in charge of the home front. When the family is moving around in search of pasture for the cattle, she is responsible for the children throughout the journey.
The Fulani are mostly known to engage in cattle rearing or transhumance endeavours. Most of them are without a permanent settlement because they move from place to place in search of greener pastures and water for their cattle. In Nigeria, the Fulani move from the North towards the South during the dry season months between February to March and back towards the North at the start of the rains. They depend on the cattle for their means of livelihood.
The Fulani contribute a lot to the economy of the country and its people. They provide the country with over 90 percent of its meat requirement. The cattle provide beef; they rear chickens, guinea fowls, goat and sheep too. They contribute to the dairy (milk) production and supply of hides and skin of the country, which contributes to the GDP of the economy. The affordable meat and eggs consumed in Nigeria are largely as a result of the activities of the Fulani. During festivities of Muslims and Christians, and almost anything in-between, cattle, sheep and goats are used which are readily available as a result of the transhumance activities of the Fulani. All the products of the activities of the Fulani contribute to the nutritional enhancement of the country with provision of protein in form of meat, eggs and dairy.

The Fulanis as a people gain next to nothing from the government of the country. Because they are mostly on the move, the Fulani’s do not benefit from the provision of basic amenities such as schools, hospitals and roads. They hardly know the importance of infrastructural items such as electricity, tap or borehole water and bridges. In fact, the Fulani only “buy into” infrastructural and economic development programs that are targeted at some other population, but not those targeted specifically at them. Before a program is designed specifically targeting the Fulani, thousands may have been developed for the “regular” population. No one thinks about them and their welfare and those of their cattle, despite the huge direct and in-direct contributions they make to the employment creation drive of the government. Groups such as butchers, traders in cattle and other animals, traders in hides and skin, makers of leather shoes and bags; and yoghurt-producing companies all depend on the animal product of the Fulani. What the Fulani need is a kind of public/private partnership (PPP) arrangement with the government to boost the production of the animals and their products. For example, if the Fulani should decide not to bring their livestock to the market for one week, all Nigerians will then know and appreciate their contribution to the economy and the well-being of Nigerians.

The Fulani face a lot of challenges. Moving across the length and breadth of this country and even beyond, with their cattle, in search of greener pasture is not an easy feat as their health, safety and general well-being and that of their children and animals can all be compromised during such trips, especially with the current insecurity reigning in the country. The Fulani women and children are more vulnerable in every situation when their husbands and fathers embark on such trips in search of greener pastures, in places thousands of kilometres away. They are equally vulnerable when the whole family moves on such trips as the women have to back the infants while the older children are made to trek through treacherous terrains on foot, open to the elements. If the Fulani herdsmen decide to go on strike for one week, Nigerians will suffer.

I can beat my chest ANYWHERE knowing I have made VERY SIGNIFICANT IMPACT on the lives of TOTAL STRANGERS.

In my little ways, I have clothed, fed, educated and paid the school fees of TOTAL STRANGERS.

I have also assisted TOTAL STRANGERS who were accident victims even when they were ignored by a passing convoy belonging to a politician!

That said, I really dont owe any fool any explanation with regards what I have or haven't done for people. No one paid me to take on such responsibilities, but Shehu Sani on the other hand was paid to carry out projects, and the best he could come up with was TRANSISTOR RADIOS numbering about twenty.

You are an ignorant clown trying to pass yourself off as a sage to the admiration of other ignorant clowns around here.

You should stick to amusing yourself and them rather than making a mockery of your trade getting involved with those beyond your reach.

Lastly, if Shehu Sani fought alongside YOUR grandparents, you better personalised that credit to him rather than making stupid generalizations.

Good night.
lol..u are good at telling lies whilst keeping a straight face... The sad news that's why there are psychologists, behavioral scientists, profilers.. To help save the world from people who use their gifts negatively like u... The alleged gestures u tried so hard to show or tell is a sham and abstract.. In other words personalize the credits if there's any...

Now to the claim... U don't strike me like someone who bares such magnanimity in his heart.. Your constant rants and general inputs here can never collaborate that facade... One who bares such would be an idealist, realist, benevolent, objective and uncannily sincere at all times peruse and discern informations as they were...

Above all have the ability to know when to substitute commonsense for logic vice versa..

Think if u will... You could be better..

You that is not a HYPOCRITE what have you done for your own people? Small boys abusing men who fought alongside their grandparents for democracy. Silly children.

Richdad
the worst is they are social misfits and they are loyal to their status because poverty they inherited has already set the limits for their lives... It's sad but understandable..
