ClassNotFoundException definitely is clear enough (the JVM is telling you it can't find the definition of a class it needs); so you should have known adding serialVersionUID will not solve the problem. That will only solve the problem of identity/version tracking.

If you decide to use a simpler method, that's fine. But you need to learn the basics now (when you are still a novice). Running away from them will not help you (if you intend to actually grow as a programmer).

You are quite wrong there. Fela collaborated with a woman who simply went as Sandra and she was very much American. The story has even been told how she was the one who urged Fela to change his style to the one which brought him so much fame (as he was not so successful when he was doing High Life). So get your facts straight.

@poster already said this in the post.
I think the guy has all the classes he needs.
@Poster, is the StoryNode source file in the two Applications exactly the same?
@logica Once again, I've never written a single line of Android code and I hope to learn from this. Looking forward to your reply.
See, that is the problem with using an IDE if you are a novice. It might end up obfuscating the concepts.  A workspace such as you have in Eclipse or Netbeans allows you to group related projects together, but it also give you the opportunity to create unrealistic dependencies. What I mean by that is this:

Your workspace in this kind of project will start off with 2 projects:

1. The Android client (Consumer)
2. The server (Producer)

In the real world, they are not within the same physical space, meaning they do not share the same Java Run-time: the Android client runs on a phone while the server runs on some machine which could literally be anywhere in the world.

But when you put them in the same workspace, as a novice, since the Android client requires the StoryNode class, the project will indicate that the class is missing. But this class already exists in the server project right? So to handle this missing dependency you will tend to add the server project as a dependency, or add the class from the server as a dependency. But this does not make sense because in the real world the Android client runs within a completely different Java Run-time from the server. In other words a direct dependency between the Android client and the server does not exist in the real world.

At build time, this will not appear to be a mistake, but the mistake will be apparent at run-time when the client actually requires the StoryNode class and searches for it in its own Java Run-time, since it has no access to the Run-time of the server.

So the correct thing will be to model this separation (by creating a utility project which they both share and can bundle separately). You have to always have this at the back of your mind.

As I earlier said, this is not an issue particular to Android, but it applies to any application similar in design (for instance this also applies to an Applet client as well). But the Android Test Device does a good job of modeling the real life thing in that the Java Run-time is guaranteed to be different from the Java Run-time of the server; which might not be the case if the client is a standard Java Application.

Do you mean "polygamous"? Anyway, population control in that period had more to do with medical support than what you claim. At a time when the infant mortality rate was so high, and babies and their mothers usually died during child-birth, population was well controlled without much fuss.

That's what you mind tells you they say. But yes, it's a pejorative exclamation/swear word with the real meaning being "used sanitary pad" - a used sanitary pad being disgusting. So usually it's said in disgust. It's actually "bomboclat" = bombo cloth.

If the target JVM has no class definition for the serialized entity, how do you think it will create an instance? I thought my explanation was simple enough. It does not matter than you serialize from A to B successfully; what matters is, does B have the definition for the class to instantiate the class? This is general Java and is not specific to Android.

Programming › Re: J2se/ Android Complication by logica(m): 3:53am On Sep 02, 2011
First the design of your application follows the Producer-Consumer Pattern. Your J2SE application is the Producer while the Android app is the Consumer.

Your Android app runs within the context of a JVM separate from your "producer" application therefore the Android app cannot automatically pick the classes in your "producer" app. What you need to do is either:

1. Export your classes in the "producer" app as a JAR file, create a /lib directory under your Android project, and then copy this JAR file to the /lib directory.
2. Create a utility Java project which both the "producer" and the Android app have dependency on. This utility Java project can then be exported as in 1 above to both apps.

The benefit of 2 is, you have already factored out all shared classes. With one, you may end up with a huge JAR file and quite a bunch of classes which are not shared could end up on the Android app (which by the way could lead to security issues).

Good luck.

Well Christianity is not even a religion.
So what is it? I've heard Christians trying to feel cool and try to muddle things up and distinct themselves from other religious folk, and remove themselves from the criticism of religion, but you are out of luck. That kind of trick only works on sheep - those who only hear what they are told and have lost the ability to think for themselves. Those who merely regurgitate nonsensical and false statements packed full into their ears. Zombies.

1
: the religion derived from Jesus Christ, based on the Bible as sacred scripture, and professed by Eastern, Roman Catholic, and Protestant bodies
2
: conformity to the Christian religion
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/christianity

Religion is a collection of cultural systems, belief systems, and worldviews that establishes symbols that relate humanity to spirituality and moral values.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion

1.
a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2.
a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/religion

In summary, if anybody tells me Christianity is not a religion I know the person either doesn't know what he's talking about or he's a con artist; meaning everything else he says are likely false or make-believe.

I am not surprised at the level of intelligence here.

Speaking on this issue, there are some things in the Bible that are difficult to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist and misconstrue to their own utter destruction.

God reveals His Words to His very own. You can argue over the written word which of course the devil knows and quoted during the Temptation of Jesus and i believe still quotes today BUT the power lies in the(RHEMA) spoken Word of God. And no word of God is void of power.

Your human intellect nor mind cannot grasp God. God is a spirit. You can only see Him through His Word! thank you
I sometimes wonder whether some of you believe the gibberish you type, but then after watching a documentary on how brainwashing works and Manchurian candidate types, I perfectly understand.

It surprises you? Why won't it surprise you. Now your best defense is: please take a look at other religions? The pathetic "why is everybody always picking on me"? OK, all forms of religion are moronic. Does that make you feel better?

Dear Mor.on,

In case you missed it, we are back to the actual topic of this thread. Not unlike when chapters of the Bible were selected by a voting process overseen by Constantine, so are interpretations of the Bible based on votes. The overwhelming vote is, Joseph was a POOR carpenter. You may go take it up with your pastor, who probably told you Jesus was a billionaire and Joseph richer than Solomon LOL.

Dear Mor.on,

The overwhelming interpretation of that verse (John 6:42) from the whole flock of sheeple is Joseph was a POOR carpenter. The fact that you either don't know this or that you tried to twist it to serve your purpose underlines either your ignorance or insincerity. Now run along.

Dear Mor.on,

I sure am glad you caught on to the fact that the Bible can be translated as suits anybody's purpose, so of what real use is the book then?

In any case, judging from your dimwitted responses, you probably don't know that the theologians have the duty of studying the Bible and drawing up commentaries. Certainly I will take the "subjective opinion" of such a scholar (whose actual interpretations these sheeple lap up and follow) than the babbling of a mor.on who has no clue on the contents of the Bible.

Here is the commentary for the resident mor.on from Christians who lecture you:

http://bible.cc/john/6-42.htm

And they said, is not this Jesus the son of Joseph?,  From murmuring they go to mocking and scoffing at his parentage and descent, and object this to his coming down from heaven; and intend by it to upbraid him with the meanness of his birth, being the son of Joseph, a poor carpenter; and suggest, that it was great arrogance in him to claim an heavenly original, and to ascribe such things to himself, that he was the bread of God, and the bread of life, and came from heaven:
LOL @ "Jesus went up to the mountains several times by himself to pray." = Vacations. LMAO! Guys, the best vacation you can have is to go to MFM to pray all night. What a wonderful vacation. Take pics please.

ramalot:
The biggest thing you can wish anyone is that they have the ability to think for themselves.
LOL. That's asking for way too much. You shouldn't expect anybody who has come to believe that the middle-class perks of house, car, vacations et cetera define a good life can actually think straight talk less of think for himself. The modern Christian is a selfish man whose sole purpose in life is to live better than the Jones'. See what he had to say:

"I can guarantee you that kind of middle class life is better than the one 90% of Nigerians will ever live in their life time." He forgets that the same 90% he mocks are actually religious (Christians and Moslems). I am yet to see a lower class Agnostic or Atheist. But then, I wonder why he probably thinks I am one of the 90% he speaks of. It's not shocking though; that's the modern Christian's way of thinking - "I live better than you because I have a car, a house and 2 kids".

I just made a comparison above between a middle-class "successful" Christian and Jesus himself and see the response I got. I cannot imagine that any Christian will believe he or anybody for that matter is living a more interesting life than the originator (if not the creator since Jesus never asked people to become Christians) of his faith. How can a none-entity spoke-in-the-wheel compare to a man who billions purport to follow, and how can anybody claim he is more enlightened that the man he follows?

He first talked about the perks of middle class life as success yet I threw him the curve-ball of comparison to Jesus and of course, expectedly he swung wildly and struck out.

Also, I am baffled that someone defending the Christian faith and the Bible seems to know so little, as I will outline:

1. Where in the Bible was it mentioned that Jesus went on vacations? Can anybody mention those vacation spots? LOL
2. Jesus was a man of meager means and basically lived off of donations from followers. He shunned riches.
3. Joseph's carpentry practice could not have been so successful judging by the manner in which the Pharisees referred to Jesus in John 6:42. Joseph was very much a POOR carpenter.
3. Even if there was no US in Jesus' time, he was not a Roman either (which was the equivalent of the US at the time), and and of course we know they crucified him even if it was against their will. But anybody with a little sense will get where i was going by mentioning that Jesus did not have US citizenship, after all our resident clown had to tell us of his definition of a "good life".

One minute you say your friend is living the good middle-class life which for you is an example of success and the next you say "wealth comes not in the amount of money you have but how richly your life is rewarded by what you have", then I wonder if your brain has fallen out of your skull (that's if you had any to start with).

If you think you (or anyone for that matter) is living a more interesting and enlightened life than a man you purport to follow, you must be a fool.

This will be the last time I will respond to you because you are obviously obtuse. Anyway, so the quoted is your definition of living a good life huh?

From the Bible, I can tell Jesus did not have all of these (I don't think he was a US citizen, neither was he rich and neither did he go on vacations or owned property), yet he had a better life than your Mr BASF because he lived a more interesting and enlightened life (and I suspect modern day Christians probably do not even get his message considering the Gnostic interpretations, but I digress).

Whether you wake up tomorrow or not, we can assume the Sun will still shine and about 6 billion others will still go about their business. It's the same way with the "missing out on life" issue on which I really don't know why it's so difficult to grasp.

If your life is made uneventful and a waste akin to those humans you saw in the movie "The Matrix" lying comatose and with false lives injected into their subconscious, whether YOU know it or not, it is still a waste. Capisce?

Because even while you had been unable to observe for yourself, somebody was wide awake and had observed your life frittered away lying on a hospital bed, and with false scenic views and vistas injected into your psyche giving you the impression you are living, when you are actually just lying there comatose.
