Agnostic - an atheist with no courage in his convictions.
As simplistically defined by a simpleton.

Blind as a bat, thick as a tree. Read back, at no point have i discussed anything that has to do with you or your beliefs. I have only been responding to YOUR own claims. So why would the joke be on me? what joke?  grin
You are obviously a standard issue mo.ron. Not less than 3 times did you refer to my "atheist tricks" (when I am not atheistic but agnostic). And then turned around and accused me of making assumptions. Once again, who's the joke on now? They really should start a "Joker of the day/week" award. You should be the 1st recipient.

We're left with nitpicking grammar now?
I wouldn't expect you to know the difference between grammar and logic. From the logic of the sentence, a pointer to the person forming them emerges.

LOL. Anybody following this thread knows who the incoherent one is. Try as you may in obfuscation it doesn't work here. You went from talking in definite terms to hypothesizing - "what if I am an agnostic just fooling around".

1. How do you know i am "shackled by ignorance"? Ignorance of what? How does that "ignorance" affect me?
The ignorance is affecting you so badly right now, as it's the worst kind - I call it self-assured ignorance. I think "eyes wide shut" captures it better if oxymorons appeal to you.

too many big words that in the end mean nothing.
I am sorry if my English proved too difficult for you to grasp. I am in no way being grandiloquent.

davidylan:
Living without "shackles" to what exactly? What does the pupa stand to lose by dying earlier?
OK I will help you a bit. When you are shackled by ignorance, things are not easy to grasp anyway. So now you know what shackles I speak of. The same shackles that make some spend the better part of their lives shouting "Halleluyah" when they should be making good use of that time to help humanity progress. I don't live in fear while your WHOLE life is a mass of fear - which is actually the crucible in which your faith simmers. And you ask me what shackles? Ask me again. What does the pupa stand to lose by dying earlier? Jezuz! No wonder you don't get it!

davidylan:
What exactly is the "a lot" that i would have lost? The ability to live in sin without the need for moral or spiritual restraint? Any tangible thing you think i would miss?
I will consider losing the real essence of life as a total loss. "Living in sin" is a phrase I find amusing though. I am not a saint, but I have found myself more honest and living a cleaner life than quite a number of church-going, Bible-thumping "believers". But indeed I have no shackles, and I live without fear. If you really want to know how much you would lose I can only use an analogy - it's like a moth's pupa dying within its cocoon before it could metamorphose, and then thinking it had a good life. The adult moth can only shake its head in sympathy.

At age 81, after decades of insisting that belief is a mistake, concluded that some sort of intelligence or first cause must have created the universe. A super-intelligence is the only good explanation for the origin of life and the complexity of nature.
Senility or did he see God? Why one is more realistic?

Luxzy:
Who wrote the bible? What force holds the universe? What happens when we die? and finally, if you claim that there is no God, how do you explain your existence? Evolution? I sure know I didn't evolve from a freaking monkey or some primitive mammal,
Watching educative channels will answer all your questions in one. If you don't know who the authors of the Bible were (as there were many - for one several of the Old Testament chapters were written by Moses for instance), then you might as well just keep quiet.

That's where you are wrong, and I am not surprised you didn't even notice. You would have lost a lot - spending your whole life believing in fairy tales is as if you never existed in the real world but rather in the realms of fantasy; like Alice in Wonderland. Say hello to the Mad Hatter.

Even the bible is quite clear, the bible is foolishness to those who dont believe.
If I remember my Philosophy lectures well, this appears to be fallacy of begging the question. You cannot defend the bible by what the bible says about itself.

Sorry about your loss. This country's just a mess. When things like this happen, the survivors normally get grief therapy sessions to help them cope psychologically. I am not a psychologist but I know how you feel and what you are going through (it's called Survivor's Guilt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivor_guilt ). I will advise you share how you feel with compassionate close relatives and friends. Make sure you don't talk to the cynical/uncaring/unfeeling ones though.

If anybody thinks that the Cold War's effect on Africa was 2 elephants fighting and the grass suffering then I suppose you view JFK as a part of the grass when he was supposed to be sitting on one of the elephants. Though viewed as a Conspiracy Theory, the theory of the CIA being behind his assassination and the subsequent cover up is the most plausible. But why would the CIA be against JFK? Well, he like several of the African leaders that were eliminated around the same period (1960's) were progressives and JFK was the first US president since Abraham Lincoln (who also got assassinated. . . hmm) to be liberal towards "blacks". Apparently there was a group within the CIA who may have thought giving equality and freedom to Africans (either at home or abroad) was unacceptable at that time. He and his brother (Robert) were even backing Mandela at that time.

In summary, a non-subservient African leader is a dangerous one.

I am trying to understand how some people think. OK, conspiracy theories can be sexy, but not when they make no sense. So why will The West bomb the UN building to gain access to Nigeria's oil (which they already have access to anyway thanks to our porous borders, waters and creeks, and willing Oil "Bunkering" Generals)?

Kobojunkie:
A Lot of people allowed themselves be misled into believing we get hurricanes in places like Nigeria, when we rarely ever ever do
Matter of fact we don't at all. The only African country that gets touched by hurricanes is Cape Verde, and that's because it's off the coast of Africa itself. So it gets hit by baby hurricanes which are just forming and moving westwards on their way to America.

Check this:

Politics › Re: Floods In Ibadan And Oyo State by logica(m): 6:52pm On Aug 28, 2011
The term "tropical" refers both to the geographic origin of these systems, which usually form in tropical regions of the globe, and to their formation in maritime tropical air masses
Exactly. But some people even with the words right in front of them still don't know how to read. Hurricanes are formed in tropical regions just as I said, but then move to temperate regions where they hit (like the US). So hurricanes while they form off the coast of Africa DO NOT land or affect Africa; they simply move away in the direction of America. The "tropical" prefix merely refers to the source of the storm, not where it affects.

BABE - the distinction you made between "farthest" and "furthest" actually ONLY applies to "farther" and "further" as you can see in the example posted by "violent", as in "Do you have anything further to say". In that context, using "farther" sounds funny but I have no doubt that's as a result of what they call COLLOCATION in English meaning it might sound wrong simply because it is rarely used but not necessarily wrong. Now back to the topic please.

Chinese is not as exotic as it sounds.
Some Canadian-Chinese dude told me what we call Chinese food is actually not Chinese at all. I guess you can only get the real thing by going to China. All we get outside of China are basically mass-produced junk/fast food.
Romance › Re: Tales Of A First Date From hell by logica(m): 4:37pm On Aug 28, 2011
Two things struck me:

1. Date at Chinese restaurant. When did Chinese food become fashionable or a delicacy? I always saw them as fast food (even when it's a buffet). Oh well 2 each his own. I guess when you've eaten Thai food, you know Chinese food is junk.
2. So you actually told your mom about the date, and that he tried to kiss you? All these mama's girls sef.
Politics › Re: Floods In Ibadan And Oyo State by logica(m): 1:03pm On Aug 28, 2011
What the hell? How can people even talk about hurricane on the coast of Africa. Anybody who knows how hurricanes are formed will know hurricanes can never hit the coast of Africa (expect for climate inversion), after all it's the temperature differential on the African coast that is actually responsible for hurricanes. In other words hurricanes actually form off the coast of Africa and arrive on the coast of America due to temperature difference. So yes, hurricanes are Africa's gift to America. smiley
