So where is the money coming from? Doesn't the law stipulate a bail-bond of 10% of the actual bail amount? So where will he (legitimately) find 50 million?

Abeg carry your bias to one side. It is clear that the BlackBerry rules the smart-phone market. Nokia is probably still ahead in the regular phone market (but I have narrowed down to the smart-phone market which is about 20% of the entire cell-phone market), but as far as observation goes, everywhere I look around me there's somebody chatting away on BBM.

Phones › Re: What Is A Blackberry Without BBM? by logica(m): 7:22am On Oct 14, 2011
BlackBerry recognize Nigeria as a very important market, as well as other POOR countries. BlackBerry controls less than 2% of the US smart-phone market. World-wide, Android controls 47% of the market. In Nigeria as well as other poor countries, BlackBerry controls no less than 50% of the market. And the reason is the BBM. The phone was developed for businesses, but due to the cheap rate for communication (using the BBM) it became a big money saver. You can pay lower than 4000 Naira a month for an unlimited number of messages.

The iOS 5 has iMessage but it still requires an Internet connection (Wi-Fi/3G/Edge) unlike the BlackBerry.

You will get all the benefits of a CHEAP phone. That is enough information. Obviously it cannot compete with a higher range product like the Samsung Galaxy.
Phones › Re: Etisalat GAGA: Etisalat Offers Cheap Android Phone by logica(m): 6:22am On Oct 14, 2011
In any case this is good news for Android which currently controls 47% of the smart-phone market world-wide yet BlackBerry controls more than 50% of the same market in Nigeria (even without concrete statistics to back this up anecdotal proof exists). Hopefully the Android market can dominate in Nigeria, capitalizing on the issues beginning to plague BlackBerry.

I hope your luck holds up. But the wind-shield is not the only component that can get damaged as a result of the sudden temperature change; it affects every single part of the car (including the body - cracks might appear in the paint on the body) and engine components (as the hot water might run under the hood or bonnet as Britishers like to call it).
Not to disrupt the spirit of this thread but I'm actually interested in the process of transferring ownership in the case of buying Registered Naija driven cars.
Say I buy one of such cars, how exactly (what document, or something like that) will I be required to execute so I never have problems of proving ownership to our black brothers who call themselves the police?!

For you experienced hands in the trade, is there an agreement that needs to be signed between the old and new owners? if so, is there any readily available structure or format this should take?

Thots and answers,  please!
It's not like the US where you simply sign over the vehicle title. You actually have to process the change of ownership through the auto registration authority. Most people don't bother to do this and even drive around for ages with the registration number at the time of purchase; which the sellers don't usually bother to remove. You must be asking in horror - "What if the car is involved in a crime?" Well, nobody thinks about that, as in Nigeria it apparently doesn't matter. grin

@thehomer,

Don't waste your time with that dummy; he's a Christian but doesn't even know the contents of the Bible!

@davidlyan

Allow me to waste a few keystrokes here:
How many peer-reviewed work have you published on this topic - The Origin of Man? Just mention one.

Yes I read Discover magazine; I follow the works of authorities of science, or who am I supposed to follow - you? You are an authority in what exactly? As far as I'm concerned you are a non-entity. Your tantrum is quite amusing though - it can be compared to a Primary School kid mad at the world for listening to Einstein on his Relativity Theory in the early 20th century and saying "Come on I can tell you how space and time works using my compass and tee-square and ruler".
Car Talk › Re: The Confessions Of A Crooked Car Dealer. by logica(m): 4:48am On Oct 13, 2011
There is another thing - highway/freeway miles versus town miles. Highway miles put less stress on the engine while the latter does. But there is no way of identifying which is which except you know the driver's life-style.

Christianity Etc › Re: Mazaje & Co Lets Discuss The Origin Of Man by logica(m): 4:27am On Oct 13, 2011
I think you will get your answer by watching more channels like Discovery, BBC Knowledge, et cetera (if you have cable TV) or subscribe to Discover Magazine (if you can understand "science stuff" that is because I know it's not made for everybody - above average intelligence is a requirement). You could even spend less time making noise here and scour the Internet which is a gold-mine of all the information you need (again the previous caveat applies).

deadie:
I know somebody who imports cars and he told me that probably more than 90% of imported cars have their mileage reduced. The mileage reduction is mainly done abroad, cost average about 100 USD. VIN probably wouldn't help you. I know a car that was brought in with 60,000k knocked off the odometer, the user is still happy because of the good performance. The only advice is to test drive the car. But as long as finding out if the odometer was tampered with, forget it. As I have said earlier, it is done to virtually all the cars coming into Nigeria.
I don't know how it works for other cars but for the cars I used in the US (BMW and Benz) you cannot knock off 60,000 miles from the odometer. An odometer reading is done every time the car goes for maintenance which I did at the dealer shops. These readings of course go into the automobile records and is publicly accessible.
Car Talk › Re: The Confessions Of A Crooked Car Dealer. by logica(m): 9:02pm On Oct 10, 2011
You can only get a low odometer reading for an old car if you are buying directly from a retiree. Yep, very rare.

Like I said to believe in Evolution , one needs to be brain dead !!!
The official position of the Church:
According to the widely accepted scientific account, the universe erupted 15 billion years ago in an explosion called the 'Big Bang' and has been expanding and cooling ever since. Later there gradually emerged the conditions necessary for the formation of atoms, still later the condensation of galaxies and stars, and about 10 billion years later the formation of planets. In our own solar system and on earth (formed about 4.5 billion years ago), the conditions have been favorable to the emergence of life. While there is little consensus among scientists about how the origin of this first microscopic life is to be explained, there is general agreement among them that the first organism dwelt on this planet about 3.5–4 billion years ago. Since it has been demonstrated that all living organisms on earth are genetically related, it is virtually certain that all living organisms have descended from this first organism. Converging evidence from many studies in the physical and biological sciences furnishes mounting support for some theory of evolution to account for the development and diversification of life on earth, while controversy continues over the pace and mechanisms of evolution.[5]

Christianity Etc › Re: Why Christians/Muslims Get Offended By Atheists by logica(m): 4:25pm On Oct 05, 2011
And for those who still think the theory of Evolution is atheistic, you need to upgrade. Recently, the Papacy acknowledged the correctness of Evolution. The theory has proof/evidence and cannot be refuted. And interestingly it does not contradict religious beliefs, the same way an Agnostic can believe in Intelligent Design, as long as it is not as written on the pages of Genesis in the Bible. Also Intelligent Design and Evolution are not mutually contradictory in any way.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Christians/Muslims Get Offended By Atheists by logica(m): 4:18pm On Oct 05, 2011
The truth is, I will rather have people hate me and stay away from me, as long as I know why they do. I have no problems with that, as I don't want to listen to kindergarten talk all day about "God's Love" et cetera. I only have time to listen to real solutions to real problems.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Christians/Muslims Get Offended By Atheists by logica(m): 7:21am On Oct 05, 2011
One of the reasons you have pointed out - when religious people make attributions to God they actually refer to themselves. That's why you can have Joshua directed by God (and the people of Israel) to commit pogroms (crimes against humanity in our current dispensation) against their rivals. That's why religious people hope you turn out to be a failure so they can point at you and say "Aha. . .his life is messed up because he's not a Christian/Moslem"; they take it personal. While forgetting that your life is probably STILL better than the lives of most of their fellow Christians/Moslems.

One of the obvious other reasons is they see it as a war between good and evil. They are good (of God) and anybody else not of their religion is evil. That's why every non-Moslem is a Kaffir and every non-Christian is going to Hell.

I just need to add a commentary on my choice - Agnosticism. It is entirely based on my conviction after years of thought. I am what I am not because I read anybody's articles or because I try to emulate anybody. I am merely using my brain. I just saw a name on this thread - Antony Flew. I never heard of him before. The only well known Atheist I knew was Richard Dawkins and that was because of my subscription to Discover magazine; he was featured in an article 3 years ago. Basically, I am saying my persuasion was not as the result of any "evangelist". And in any case, I am not Atheist.

What religious people don't seem to realize is that allowing for the existence of God does not imply a religious belief. Anybody who thinks there is God, but that God does not fit with any religious belief is an Agnostic (there are various types of Agnostics) - someone like Einstein. And that was exactly what Antony Flew converted to - from Atheist to Agnostic Deist. So please, stop using Flew as the poster "child" of an "Atheist repentance and conversion".

You have to be extremely silly to think he personally writes updates on Facebook or think it's a fraud because he doesn't. What does he have PA's for? You think all those celebrities on Facebook write their updates? Or you think they are the ones who respond to fan letters?

The only tool I believe quite a number of celebrities actually write their own updates is Twitter and it's because it's very simple; and they are usually very young (present generation) celebrities so they are used to the tool.

Funny. Why not compare the price with Saudi Arabia, after all they are an oil-producing nation like Nigeria? The mere fact that the UK and US are more industrialized than Nigeria should mean they will pay more for fuel/energy sources.
Politics › Re: Court Nullifies LASTMA Powers To Impose Fine On Offenders by logica(m): 4:56am On Sep 23, 2011
The reason I didn't probe further was the fact that he eventually let me go with the ticket. If I had been arrested and locked up, or the payment on my card had gone through, then you bet I would have taken him up in court.

Pifa:
You had it right until you confused yourself with your “instant fine” proposition. There is no such thing as an “instant fine” in the US.
It's quite possible some counties in the US have this provision, or I was a target of racial discrimination. I never really confirmed, but I was pulled over in a county in Wisconsin. I was issued a ticket and the officer asked me to pay on the spot. I found this odd even though I knew I was guilty, but I didn't even have enough cash on me. He told me I could pay with my credit/debit card and told me I had to either pay or follow him to the station. I can't quite recall whether the payment didn't go through or something but he eventually let me go with the ticket. I simply didn't bother to find out if what he did was permitted but I simply decided it might have more to do with the fact that my car was not registered in Wisconsin than my race. But I don't think it was because I was way above the speed limit (since I wasn't) because in some counties/states you get arrested if you are way above the speed limit.
