LOL. I know the people selling this idea to the dumb azzes in government know this will be an easy way to reduce the Nigerian population to close to zero. Forget about the waste disposal; I know within a few weeks somebody will go to sleep and we will have an explosion that will dwarf what Hiroshima and Nagasaki witnessed.

Dont they have different Business hours? For school 8am to may be 4pm. Brothel 7pm till dawn, grin
Dude, even during my secondary school days I used to see prostitutes hanging around outside their brothels. I can imagine it's a 24-hour biz these days as market dey tight and competitive. Not a good thing 4 kids on their way 2 school to sight half-clad obese women with their fat bellies hanging out above their "leggings".
Nairaland General › Re: Which Is Worse: Greed Or Selfishness by logica(m): 10:56am On Nov 04, 2011
You can be greedy and not selfish. Greed makes a man a billionaire; selfishness makes him keep all the money to himself. Yet we have philanthropic billionaires - meaning he's greedy but not selfish.
Politics › Re: Breaking News: Fg To Re-introduce Toll Gate by logica(m): 10:47am On Nov 04, 2011
Toll-gates should only be built to charge trailers and lorries for now; as far as I'm concerned they are the ones causing major damage to highways. This will force haulage companies to actually start considering rail as a better option. Tolling cars should come much later; not now.

I attend Sign Fireman's church and I can tell you that  this video was seriously edited to suit the purpose of the producers - who by the way don't believe anything in God (They were out side smoking during most of the services). If Fireman had anything to hide he would not have given them such free access to the church.
Indeed I too will like to know where you got your Masters degree from, if you are too dim to realize that many Christians are smokers. So na non-smoking you wan use recognize Christians? First-class mor.on. And your pastor may be the idi.otic type that thinks an interview from a news crew is always for good exposure only to feel the heat from the backlash of his goofs. Oh yeah, any kind of publicity is good publicity for some people.

Indeed. It's quite coincidental that rain clouds had formed not so? Have you ever seen rain fall without rain clouds? Jezuz. Just look up into the clouds and EVEN you can predict rainfall within minutes.

There  is nothing wrong with out current price of petrol. N65 = $0.41 which is cheaper  than in Iran, KUwait and Venezuela
The exact same argument that ignorant government officials will put forward simply because they have no idea of the difference between $/liter and $/gallon. If you don't know which is being used, it's best to be very quiet.

moneysense:
Nigerians have no business buying petrol for more than N30
look at the prices below if only the refineries are working.

Petrol price in some OPEC countries:
Saudi $0.12;
Kuwait $0.79;
UAE $0.37;
Venezuela $0.5;
Qatar $0.22;
Iran $0.42;
Algeria $0.20;
Libya $0.14.
I am sure you don't realize those prices are per gallon not per liter. Meaning you should divide your 30 Naira by 4.2.

Nope. It means "wealth is prestigious". You don't seem to get his point. "Olaniyi" in Igbo refers to something getting rotten or spoilt. So for Yoruba guys called "Niyi" that bush Igbo guy that keeps calling you "Olaniyi" (even though you are "Adeniyi"wink isn't doing it mistakenly; he's telling you what he thinks of you.

Indeed low self esteem is a b!tch; I mean a b!tch has low self esteem. Hmm, makes sense transposed.

Pro1 I don't agree with you. If a person can go as far as pouring acid on another he's always been violent. You know why? It's what they call "premeditated". When you are angry and you immediately retaliate "in situ" that's more or less temporary insanity. But then when you sit down, formulate a plan; go get acid stalk your victim and then commit the act (and not lose your nerve on sighting the woman) you are definitely callous. Now if this is in retaliation for a previous acid bath she carried out no wahala. In any case if you fvck with me, as long as I'm still alive you have a lot to worry about.

Good points Negro; especially as pertaining to the Ijebu angle.

Also "Gbadamosi" is a corruption of "Badmus" right?
Dabiri is actually "DABIR" or "DABIREE".

Its semitic origin and mean TEACHER.

Gbadamosi is another one of such semitic name origin.

To the person asking about JAKANDE, it's TAPA name.
I think the best way to determine the origin is to know how wide-spread the name is used. I don't know the distribution but I will be convinced on the "dabir" theory if the name is used throughout Yoruba land. But if they are restricted to say Lagos as someone suggested the Arabic origin is doubtful.

With "Jakande" I also thought about the possibility it's not Yoruba but then there has been suggestion that Jakande is originally from Kwara. That does not stop him adopting a "Lagos" name though.
Culture › Re: Meaning Of The Name Dabiri? by logica(m): 6:20pm On Oct 27, 2011
shadrach77:
dabiri might also be a variation of the yoruba word dabira which mean "perform wonders" or "perform the impossible" - some yoruba words are not easy to explain - for example a word can have more than one meaning - da may mean perform eg. dasha - perform an action, the word biri can mean quickly/swiftly or thoroughly so:
da = perform
biri = swiftly/thoroughly

dabiri can mean "perform swiftly"   OR perform thoroughly  wink wink cheesy
Now I think you just inadvertently came upon the most appropriate meaning:
Da: stop
Biri: quickly

So it could mean "stop quickly". It could be a plea (to God) for an unpleasant experience or feeling stopping quickly: like
crying/sorrow/pain etc. This I think is the most appropriate translation.

I really don't think it's one of those "Yorubized" Arabic words like "kaffir" which become "keferi" or "Kabir" which becomes "Kabiru" etc.
Culture › Re: Meaning Of The Name Dabiri? by logica(m): 4:55pm On Oct 27, 2011
Very funny. So because a name means something in your language then it can't have it's own meaning in another language? Me too I always knew "Nwobodo" was Yoruba meaning "searching for a va.gi.na to fvck". Go figure.

dabirithis analysis is wrong wink wink angry
da - single handedly
bi - here
ri - found
Meaning: i discovered/ found this place alone

But let's leave dabiri for now - what does JAKANDE mean? grin grin shocked shocked
Most correct. I can only guess "Jakande" is one of those names whose pronunciation has been bastardized by foreigners and the true meaning has been lost - like "Moremi" which I surmised to be "Omo re mi"; a variation of "Omo wu mi" from Osun/Ekiti. In a similar manner I think "Jakande" might be "Ija kan de" or "Oja kan de". Play around with variations and you have your best fit.

I will advise you, if you see any acts of negligence by crew members or technicians do not keep quiet and watch like a mugu. Your life is at stake.

you don't seem to know the MO of armed-robbers. That car will be used in another robbery. The robbers already have a target and they have stolen this car to go carry out their real intended robbery. Evil Brain:
Why is it that the least intelligent people in Nigeria always end up holding high office?
1. Intelligent people refuse to shove the dullards into a well and take over.
2. It's become a culture - culture of incompetence passed down from the colonists. Their best servants who were of course usually the dullest were well rewarded. This is an instance of negative reinforcement learning. We have learnt to be sycophants knowing that's the essential "quality" that gets you further in the shortest period.

These silly people that just like to argue. I have posted what the law states, now you are saying "will you do what's wrong even if the law says it's right"? I thought the law defines what's wrong from right. Or are you all now making your own laws?
Crime › Re: Can A Man Rape His Wife? by logica(m): 2:04pm On Oct 22, 2011
I think this is what the Nigerian Law defines as despoil:

Section 357 of The Criminal Code act (Nigerian laws Cap 38), applicable in the south of Nigeria, defines violation as: "Any person who has unlawful carnal knowledge of a woman or girl, without her consent, or with her consent, if the consent is obtained by force or by means of threats or intimidation of any kind, or by fear of harm, or by means of false and fraudulent representation as to the nature of the act, or in the case of a married woman, by personating her husband, is guilty of an offence which is called violation.
"unlawful carnal knowledge" means carnal connection which takes place otherwise than between husband and wife
From that definition, a husband cannot despoil his wife. Carnal knowledge within the confines of a marriage is always legal.

I wonder why a tool that's supposed to censor my English ends up putting wrong constructs in my post.

Christianity Etc › Re: Has Atheism Ever Gotten U Into Trouble? by logica(m): 4:56pm On Oct 20, 2011
You can take solace in the fact that Christianity itself was no more than a heretical Judaic sect 2000 years ago. If anybody had intimated that the movement would one day be a major religion at the time you would have been scoffed at. They had a long history of persecution which comes with "non-conformance". But it's no coincidence that the Church was at it's height of influence during the Dark Ages. The influence continues to dwindle; 2000 years is long enough and soon we will discuss these religions in Literature classes as "Ancient Middle-Eastern Mythology" no more than we discuss "Ancient Greek Mythology" which they largely replaced in dominance.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why More Christians Are Becoming Atheists? by logica(m): 2:09am On Oct 20, 2011
OK. I can surmise you are a religious person going through a metamorphosis as clearly many of your beliefs are religious (especially Christian) and even going by such phrases as "confessing my love for the Creator", "give God thanks and praises", "proof that God is great" and "I just know that God is in my heart and soul" are quite familiarly religious (Christian).

T'care.
