Enahi:Whichever way you see it, it still boils down to insensitivity of the government we have. How can this be a recurring scene every year and it remains unsolved. I am starting to believe the Fashola was even somehow over-hyped. |

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said that he is responsible for the emergence of his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, as governor. This is as he also described himself as the engine room of the former governor. Wike said this on Saturday while speaking with journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State The governor explained that he was teaching those in Amaechi’s camp the way to play the game of politics, because “there is no polling booth in the state that I do not know or do not know anybody.” For those who have been criticizing his emergence as governor, he said, “the fact is that I was prepared for that election. “I was a council chairman. There is nowhere in this state that I do not know. There is no ward I do not know one person. “As I sit down here, I can mention one, person from each ward. I know the politicians in this state. I know who has strength and who does not have strength.” Wike also said during the course of the campaigns he was strong and healthy. “I never emaciated one day, the truth of the matter is that if you do the election 100 times in this state, I will win,” he said. Wike also dismissed claims that he received the sum of N108 billion from former president Goodluck Jonathan as a refund for the rehabilitation of federal roads by the past administration of Rotimi Amaechi. Wike described the allegation as a frivolous one that should be disregarded by well-meaning Nigerians and the people of the state, maintaining that he met an empty treasury in the state. There have been speculations in some quarters that the governor received the said amount from the former President as reimbursement for the federal roads repaired by the former administration. Wike explained that it was not possible for such a huge amount of money to be released to him without anybody being able to trace it. He said, “It is not possible for me to receive N108 billion. Did Jonathan pay the money into my account or gave me cash? “Was I paid the money before or after I was sworn-in as governor? Did Jonathan have the power to sign for such money after President Mohammadu Buhari was sworn-in? “Is it possible that nobody can trace the money (N108 billion) if it was given to me? It is unfortunate how people have trivialised governance. So such stories should be discountenanced,” Wike added. He explained that despite meeting an empty treasury when he assumed duty as governor, the state Ministry of Works was indebted to the tune of N200 billion under the past administration. On recently recovered government property, the governor insisted that the vehicle seized from the former Commissioner for Information’s residence belonged to the state government. “The bulletproof Lexus 570 is the property of the state government and it is worth between N60 million to N70 million. I personally impounded three Rivers State Government vehicles in Abuja from the Liaison Officer,” Wike said. Describing the scholarship programme of the past administration as a scam, the governor explained that Rivers students, who were beneficiaries of the scheme, were suffering abroad. He decried a situation where the former administration used consultants to execute jobs that would have been done by the State Scholarship Board. http://www.punchng.com/news/i-was-amaechis-engine-room-wike/

Rather than barking, why can't he come out with evidence? Let him print the bank statement till Amaechi's last date of handover. Don't come here and start saying rubbish. Maybe he's considering looting what Amaechi left there. |
I refuse to be deceived. Something doesn't sound right about this man's story. |
Suspected assassins have killed an Egba Chief, the Oluwo of Ikanna in his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Wednesday, June 17. The late Chief, Moses Oyebade, 75, was said to have been shot three times. It was learnt that attempt had been made to kill Oyebade before. The victim's first son, Oluyemi Oyebade, recounted, "my father was sleeping in his bedroom. The bed is close to the window. As the glass was broken, he woke up to see what happened. He took his torch to see who was there. That was how he was shot. "The first gunshot was in his hand which was seriously damaged. Maybe when he was still struggling, they shot him again. I guess they shot him three times.” The Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, saying the killers left a note after killing the chief. In the note, he was referred to as "Useless" and "Promiscuous". Adejobi said, “We have a case of murder at hand concerning Apena of Ikanna Chief Moses Oyebade. Some men went to his residence, broke his window and shot him at 12: am . “We have examined the place and recovered assassination note which contained a message written in both English and Yoruba languages. “The content read useless man, Oni dokudo (promiscuous ). In our preliminary investigation, it could be a case of assassination. We will invite some people for interrogation. “The state Police Commissioner, Valentine Ntomchukwu has directed that the case be transfered to department of criminal investigation. “The perpetrators would not go Scot free. The commissioner of Police sympathises with the family, even, the Kabiyesi, the Alake of Egbaland.” http://pulse.ng/local/in-ogun-egba-chief-shot-dead-killers-leave-note-referring-to-him-as-useless-and-promiscuous-id3884373.html |
A former Imo State governor, Ihedi Ohakim, was on Thursday arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Ohakim, who was scheduled to visit the EFCC office in Abuja on Wednesday, had shunned the anti-graft agency’s invitation to answer questions on fraud he allegedly perpetuated while he was in office. But when he shunned the EFCC invitation, operatives of the agency invaded his residence in Asokoro, Abuja where he was arrested on Thursday morning. He was subsequently taken to the EFCC headquarters where he was subjected to many hours of grilling over allegations of corruption and embezzlement. Sources at the EFCC said that the former governor was specifically questioned on why he allegedly used the state funds to acquire choice property in many locations. He was later released around 4.30pm and is expected to be summoned soon to answer more questions and provide clarifications. The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Ohakim was arrested and quizzed in respect of an investigation into corrupt enrichment by the ex-governor who led Imo State between 2007 and 2011. “Ohakim was released and allowed to go, we will call him whenever we need him,” Uwujaren stated. Similarly, the commission interrogated a former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, in a case of money laundering, embezzlement and funds misappropriation involving him and his children. The commission had earlier invited the former governor, but he did not honour the summons because he was out of the country. Uwujaren confirmed that Lamido was at the anti-graft agency’s office for interrogation in an investigation being pursued by the commission. The EFCC had in recent weeks woke up from its lethargy and stepped up its investigations into cases of corrupt enrichment and embezzlement by former governors.

THE Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has said that contrary to the claims by the immediate past administration that it left N7bn in the state coffers, he met an empty treasury. Wike explained that the treasury where the monthly Federal Allocation accruing to the state was always kept had remained in debit as at May 29 when he (governor) took over the reins of governance in the state. The governor made this remark on Thursday at the Government House in Port Harcourt during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and officials of Julius Berger and a Chinese Construction firm, CCECC, for the rehabilitation of 33 kilometres of township roads in the state capital. He stated that from the brief he received from the state Accountant General after his inauguration, only one revenue account with Sterling Bank had some funds left by the immediate past administration. Wike said, “I want to say on good authority that we did not meet any N7bn, as being speculated. The state’s FAAC account as at May 29 (2015) was in debit. That was the briefing I received from the Accountant-General.” Signing the MoU with the two construction giants, Wike explained that the step was to realise his administration zero potholes programme launched on May 29, 2015. According to the governor, while Julius Berger is to handle the rehabilitation of 11 kilometres of township roads alongside street lights and traffic lights, the CCECC will handle 20 kilometres of township roads in Port Harcourt. He explained that the state government had resolved to work with the construction giants to rebuild road infrastructure in the state capital. He added that the revival of facilities in the state capital was beyond political consideration. Wike noted that the funds for the ‘Operation Zero Potholes’ had been set aside, hence the signing of the MoU to ensure that the companies concluded work in 120 days. He, however, promised to personally monitor the execution of the projects by the construction giants. Wike explained that his administration had resolved to take the N10bn loan with specific focus on key projects to be implemented, noting that the request to the state House of Assembly was accompanied by all the projects to be executed. http://www.punchng.com/news/i-met-an-empty-treasury-says-wike/

Jman06:Yours is surely one. No need to trade words with you. |
Security first! Why would you take a car by the road side all because you don't want to pay for t.fare. Go to the motor park to board vehicles. Do not hitch-hike by the road side. I am a guy but yet i do not have the gut to take a lift in a car that I do not know the occupants/driver. Not to talk of a female. You may not have the opportunity to spend that N1000 you are trying to save... |
Jman06:Easy to see who the f00l is here. |
