BusinessRe: GTB Freezes My Account For False Loan by lomaxx: 10:03am On Apr 05, 2013
Rubbish GTB. Same bank whose staff take delight in defrauding unsuspecting customers.
When I and my colleagues had Agbami scholarship, our joys knew no bounds when we realised that GTB was Agbami's bank of choice for the issuance of ATM CARDS preloaded with the scholarship award money. GTB used to have a good name. It didnt take long for us to realise that GTB and its staff are fraudsters.
The bank was supposed to issue the awardees an ATM card which the scholarship money is loaded already. Some of us awardees were issued empty cards. No money. Agbami had released the funds for all awardees. Some GTB staff collaborated to steal the money.
And did I also mention that those of us that were lucky to have finally been paid had to suffer more losses. GTB makes withdrawals on my scholarship funds without reason - bunch of thieves!!! I was paid by Agbami again on december 2012- 200k. I went to confirm with my ATM card. The money was there smiling at me from the machine. I returned the following week to withdraw 100k o buy books i needed for school, insufficient balance smiled at me. GTB robbed me of 120k. I approached their branch in Uyo to make my complaints. Dont they all have very rude customer care representativeshuh? The rubbish woman gave her dose of GTB's normal laissez-faire attitude to customers.
This bank has been defrauding both customers and students of their hard earned money. I will advise anyone - for the safety of your money- avoid this bank.

As I sojourn each day in the ever demanding Nigerian medical school system, the competitive aura that characterises each major step takes one more minute of sleep from my eyes and leave me with a dense determination to forge ahead with fresh fire.
I never wanted to study medicine with the fear of being prunned out. Infact, I had repeatedly admonished myself that I can surmount every churning out procedure ever to be invented. Years ahead of that self-inspiring thought, the reality of the system has unfolded. And the picture has never been any clearer than now.
The system has no pity. The system has no remorse for any unfortunate fellow. It speaks the language of pass or fail. To fail is human, but to pass is divine.
So each day, I live my life to acquire this supreme divinity. I pray not to be found wanting. Not to be caught without a good measure of "stuff". And not to disappoint myself and the society. It is clearly the surival of the fittest.
Whilst we strive to survive with our enormous efforts (which the system consistently considers fragile and frail), we have a hope that one day , life would never be the same again. We see beyond the prestige and the hallowedness of being in med school. We never worry about people's assessment of our abilities. What we are more concerned with is that fact that never shall this system find us wanting. Not now . Not ever.

agabasam: test result dnt make diagnosis... It confirms d diagnosis or rule it out....
I think he is still correct. There are many types of diagnosis. He specified "laboratory diagnosis". Clinical diagnosis(made on basis of signs and symptoms) is confirmed by a laboratory test.
But a lab diagnosis is made significantly w.r.t lab test results (especially when a disease presentation has a symptom or sign common with many other diseases. Ruling out is not feasible). An example is the malaria that's common around here.
cheers!!!

Emzybrown: aww doc ,guess you want me to expantiate what i mean by mls being the bedrock of modern medicine.
By bedrock i mean medical laboratory science is the solid rock, foundation of 21st century medicine,in global medical pratice lately evidence base medical pratice is ideal.a hospital cant function without the laboratory where diagnosis are made while sometimes we make prognosis and maybe advice the doctor on effective antibiotics and dosage to use for overall treatment,we can also assay the conc of drug in biological fluid to ascertain efficacy of drug or cases of overdosage.a doc treating a patient witout lab diagnosis is doing so out of biasness cos many health problems have same or similar symptoms n sign,i dnt think a doc can prescribe treatment plan by just analysing the patient base on clinical signs n symptoms, vital statistic or experience without consulting the lab, with this few point i think its enough to convince you that med lab science is the bedrock of modern medicine, meanwhile am nt demeaning great doctors regardless of whatever organogram they are stil the head in overall patient care.
You have made your point. These days, every field claim to be the solid foundation of modern medicine. The medical laboratory is a necessary necessity in management of patients. My problem with Nigerian medical labs is their supposed indifference to new methodologies and criteria in helping the physicians in the quest for a more rational diagnosis at a lesser cost for the patient.
Also, another issue worthy of note is the "traditional" approach of medical lab science practise in Nigeria to career developments of the practising scientists. I have a classmate who left mls practise to study medicine because it was made evident to her that no matter the number of added qualifications she might possess later on in her career, the "traditional" way of doing things will still hold.
I still believe in the future of the Nigerian healthcare system. And i have so much respect for medical lab scientists. Patient management isnt comlete without the medial laboratory!

charliechyke: Pls can I apply for direct entry before NYSC....is t possible to exempt ?
I have 2 DE guys in my class that never went for service. They did ojoro sha at the NYSC level and somehow the NYSC Discharge Certificate are in their hands. If you can get the Discharge Certificte, you are free to apply.
Exemption creates a different scenario. Infact, some schools would probe further if you present with an Exemption Certifcate to ascertain if you met fully the conditions for exemption.

labodinho: tanx for yur reply @ Dr Lomax,is it possible i can cross to MBBS frm physiotherapy in my 200L or 300L cos ma primary aim is MBBS?
Since your primary aim is medicine, go for the medicine. I was once in your shoes 5 years back. It wasn't physiotherapy for me though. I wanted to study medicine but due to the competitive nature in getting admitted, I began thinking of other measures to get into medicine whilst avoiding the hallowed jamb and the then post-ume.
Infact, many people whom I perceived more brighter than i was never made it to medicine. They were all shifted to other para-medical departments. To make matters worse, I never knew anyone studying medicine- no where to draw inspiration. My plan was to do med lab science then later in 200 or 300, i'll have a cgpa enough for transfer into medicine.
5 years now and i forever remain glad i never made that choice. I choosed medicine and damned all fears, all inadequacies and all self-doubts. We all have that point in our lives when we just wonder if our plans would work out or leave us stranded. Happens to almost everyone. I prepared for jamb and post ume with so much determination and vigour. I still couldn't believe i had the highest jamb and post jamb score when the list was finally out.
what is my pointhuh I'm not telling you how good i was. All im saying is if you want medicine, go for it. Dont waste time on transfer here and transfer there. If I made it, you can. Even better. There's enough inspiration on this thread to make you pass any exam in med school and before then. Apply yourself to it. That's all.

Bush2013: I am an aspirant to stdy medicine. which of this three medical school is the best for medicine,Unijos,ABU and unilorin
They are all good medical schools. For the sake of others reading with similar dilema, aspiring to study medicine is commonplace and highly competitive. You need the right choice of school with full accreditation for mbbs programme, and with the right facilities. I can vouch for the three medical schools - make your choice based on factors such as catchment area, comfort and ease of getting admitted. Be smart about ur choice too. Goodluck!!

labodinho: Helo Doc's, kan i specialise in gyneacology or cardiology afta ma years in skul as a physiotherapy??....pls,i need replies......
No sir. Specialising in cardiology or obstetrics and gyneacology or any other area in medicine is post-mbbs. You must be a doctor before you start thinking of specialty.
Given your choice of physiotherapy, i would want to advise that you seek areas of specialty in your field. And even if you were to study medicine, i would flippantly assume its rather too early to narrow your views to specific specialities(unless you have personal reasons)
cheers!!!
