Please house help me. My sister has been in a relationship with a guy for the past 10 years and the relationship is sexual. The boy is 37 while she is 34. The boy keeps claiming he doesn't have money to marry her, my sister will say why am I pushing marriage, will I give them money to sustain the home? I have called the guy and asked him questions and he said if I have 100k, I should give him, so they can marry. Abeg how do I handle this issue?

My sister works but she is always broke. The guy is an artist who does art work but sales is poor. Not that I ever knew when sales was good.

How should I handle it?
Stay out of it. Why are you pokenosing in the business of 30yr old adults? Stay in your lane abeg.

Exactly! Getting sick is normal because there is no one who has never gotten sick.

What happens when the person stays being sick after the administration of treatment? It becomes abnormal right?

How many people have slept and not wake that we begin to consider dying while asleep a normal thing?
FRANCISTOWN:
It is statistically not significant.
I never said dying in your sleep is normal. We were talking of there being a guarantee you will wake up and walk to your bathroom tomorrow morning. Dying in your sleep is not the only thing that could prevent that from happening.

It is statistically significant enough to be a concern amongst certain portions of the population. You not being in any of the groups doesn't negate the concern.

I understand, but for the sake of this argument. They are nullified because they are not normal. Or is sickness a normal thing?
Being sick is not normal, getting sick is normal. There is no human being who has never gotten sick. Getting sick is a normal part of the human experience. Being sick on the other hand is a deviation from the normal functioning of the body.

It is not a confirmation bias. I've not totally ruled out the possiblity of sleeping and not waking. Therefore, it also cannot be a conjecture.

Consider it as a random variable that has a probability density function that is proportional to X on the interval [0,1] and zero elsewhere.
Let's consider the 0 elsewhere as a container that houses all underlying sicknesses or midnight accidents that could trigger not waking up.

If you insisted on your above disposition, then it means that: Not waking from sleep is Normal and if not waking from sleep is normal, then waking from sleep becomes abnormal.

Is that the theory you are trying to propound?
Nope, I am telling you that the probability is never zero.

Well hope is different from want/need but stems from them

Consider want and need as the parents.
They begot Wish.
Wish begot faith and hope.
Faith begot persistence, determination, long sufferings, do or die, success or vanishing. "Change starts by doing" e.t.c

Hope begot "Do your best and live the rest", "if you set your mind at it, you can achieve it", "i know i can be whatever i wanna be","I hope one day, things will change", weakness , what will be will be. e.t.c

I've decided to adopt Faith and her children. Hope is for weak people, Faith is for the strong
I guess we have different views of hope then. Hope to me is not "Do your best and live the rest", well not exactly. Hope to me is this is what I want or that is what I need, I am going to aim for them. Then I make plans to fulfill those desires. Why I say not exactly is because I recognise that plans, situations and circumstances can change, heck I may not even want that thing anymore, so I also plan to be flexible in achieving my aims. Plus I realise that there are things beyond my control, things will happen that I did not expect or anticipate.

I laugh at "Hope is for weak people, Faith is for the strong". If you have never experienced something that completely blindsides you, you'd have this view is my opinion. When you've experienced the vagaries of life you'll see things differently.

Want means that you are even interested in the light at the end of the tunnel. Then you hope there is really a light. If you do not want/need the light at the end of the tunnel. Even if there is a 1000watts of incandescent lamp , you will gladly remain in the dark. Actually, some people love the dark. I personally enjoy the dark. I love darkness.

Whatever you hope for is something you either want or need. If you are hungry and you need food, will you hope to not get food?

Waking up is guaranteed. It's a normal thing. Anyone who doesn't wake up must have suffered an absurdity.

The fact that something is guaranteed does not mean there can't be mishaps. But it's a mishap, a mistake. Something that is not expected to happen. I've maintained this position since the beginning.

As in the case of SIDS, are you saying parents should not have the guarantee that their kid will outlive them?

Let's imagine a mother says to a day's old baby that "I hope this child grows, and live long". WTF?

It was strange to me when Aemmyjah, MaxInDHouse, Dtruthspeaker and other christians think atheists are always depressed because they are scared of the future.

The pessimistic mentality and a mind full of negativities, insecurities and uncertainties of many atheists must have been the reason.

I'm an atheist but I get faith die.
I've said it several times. I will live up to 90 in good health with great-grand children all over me in luxuries 🥰🥰🥰.

I've never for once in this life thought it may not happen. Why should it not? Peradventure it doesn't happen. There is no big deal, life's misfortune can happen to anybody at anytime.
Emphasis on misfortune.

Until I saw what you wrote I have never heard an atheist say they don't have hope, especially if they are not nihilistic. I don’t really see nihilists so maybe that's why.

That there are atheists that say hope is stupid does not make it general. Once again the only thing you can say that applies to atheists as a group is they do not believe in a God. You need to get that parked very well in your head.

Lol! Why would you say accident is a normal thing? The world accident itself means an unexpected event, a mistake, something that shouldn't happen.
Did you think Henry Ford think a diesel-engine moving vehicle would claim lives? I guess you should read his notes or find his interviews.
Accident of whatever sort, even a domestic accident is a mistake.
Who would think it's a normal thing for him to cut his fingers while slicing vegetables? I think such person has an underlying mental issue and should be treated.
If your friends got caught up in an accident, or you fell sick. Just stay there and do not do anything just because it's a normal thing.

Yes! It is foolishness to do anything to worry about normal things. Even if anyone was to do anything at all, it is to make things continue in their state of normalcy.

A healthy human should be able to at least get 4hrs of sleep everyday at will. When you can't sleep for 3days on a roll it takes a toll on your body. By that time you'll understand that abnormal things are not normal.

Also, death is normal. But the only kind of death that is normal is death at old age.
Any other kind is an abnormality. Why do you think people don't cry much when they loose their old ones? Because it's a normal death bro. Do you compare the ambiance when someone in his 20s die to when an old person of 80 dies?
Why do people throw a huge funeral party for oldies?

You are beginning to make me feel like a fool for even talking about this.

Look at you, have you ever heard of a river of water in Antarctica that flows uphill?

Also the Erin River at Erinjiyan Ekiti?(Though, I'm awaiting a research report on this)

Now back to it. Wait! Are you saying SIDS is a normal thing? Like FR?
It's a normal thing for a baby to sleep and not wake? Haha?

You know what ? I really don't wanna sound offensive, let's just end this discussion here.

Death is normal too isn't it? Accidents are normal even misfortune is a normal. And when I say normal I mean it can happen to anybody and has no "supernatural" causes.

Water flowing downhill is not the same as sleeping and waking. We know practically all there is to know about water going down hill because we understand the physical forces and circumstances that make it so. Can't say the same for sleeping and waking. Have you heard of SIDS before? Sudden infant death syndrome has no known cause and is the leading cause death in children between 1 month and a year. Factor that into your response.

Alright. Every man to his own beliefs. There are atheists who have hopes, and there are christians who even believe that hope is useless.

I was studying about some ancient Greek and Hawaiian philosophy one time and I was not surprised that I'm not the only one who sees hope as evil. One said that hope is empty and no good and makes humanity lazy by taking away their industriousness, making them prone to evil

Nietzsche also said
“Hope, in reality, is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man.”

There a/were more than 100 philosophers with their quotes and many people who also saw hope as being utterly evil, foolish and useless.

I cannot debate over a personal opinion. If you felt hope is good for you. Then best of luck.

I Francis do not operate my life based on hopes.
Hold on, are you saying if I hope to get a million dollars and work towards getting a million dollars it is no longer hope?

All of these things are guaranteed to happen. They are norms. Now when they don't, they are called misfortunes.

It is guaranteed that, I should be able to walk myself to the bathroom tomorrow. That's a normal thing. Now if I can't? That becomes abnormal, a misfortune.

Some products come with "guaranteed". It's to tell the product will work as expected. But if didn't? That's a mistake and we'll refund the consumer.

Let's say you want to purchase a product, and on it you see a label that says "This product might work or not work, but we hope it works" or you are intending to buy a house and the agent goes like "this area is plagued with robberies, we hope your house is exempted". Will you proceed?

I will have a good life(if I put in the work), I will achieve my goals (if I put in the required sacrifice). I will live to see my grands(if I took care of my health) . Now anything that'll deprive me of that is either a negligence from my own end or simply a misfortune (mistake).

Now to your question, "what do I have faith in?".
I have faith only in myself and my library. I love the air that comes from the window when the A.C is off at night.
Huh? Living a good life is not guaranteed or else a majority of the population would be doing so. Same with health and longevity. Median life expectancy of men in Nigeria is hovering at about 52 - 54 years of age which means half of the population of men will die before that point so how is longevity guaranteed?

No it is not guaranteed that you'd be able to walk to your bathroom because you have no idea what factors are in play that can change your life in an instant. The reason why manufacturers can issue guarantees it because they control the factors that went into making that product so they can reasonably predict what it can withstand. Notice that your guarantee is voided under certain conditions, For instance IP rated devices may be guaranteed to have protection in water up to a depth of 1m. If you immerse the device past that depth and anything happens you have voided the guarantee.

Your waking up tomorrow has no such guarantees because there is no one who knows all the things that are going to put them in a position to issue such a guarantee. You can have confidence you'll wake tomorrow though because you have observed over the past number of days you've been alive that come the morning after sleeping you wake. Your confidence is not a guarantee.

I would say that your acknowledgment of the possibility of misfortune occuring negates the notion of a guarantee. You could step out briefly this night and be run over so what happens to you walking to the bathroom tomorrow morning?

May I probe further to ask what do you mean by you have faith in yourself? Does that mean you think you can grow wings and fly? I am being facetious with that question but I want you attempt to elaborate on what that faith in yourself means or what it achieves.

FRANCISTOWN:
Having hopes or not doesn't make anyone less of an atheist or an Igtheist, in my own humble opinion.

Hope is desire plus expectation. Hope is an uncertain but an optimistic orientation towards the future.

Faith is a confidence that A is A anywhere.

One of the reasons you don't believe in God is because you have faith that there is no God and not believing in him will not be a detriment to your life.

Why did you go to bed without praying? Its because you have faith that no there are no demons that'll attack you.

Why do you not sit in some odd places praying for success. Is it not because you have faith that the work of your hands will feed you?

Hope is simply an expectation of a desire. An illusion, trying to avoid known realities ( something you do not have a control over)

Faith is confidence.
You phrasing this in an odd way as if you are trying to force some of the meanings you are attributing. I work because that is the system I am in, I go to work, I get paid for my work. Even if I was to doubt that I would get paid I'll still get paid so I don't see what faith has to do with it.

I do have a certain level of confidence that the Christian conception god doesn't exist and to a certain degree of confidence I also think the entire conceptions called gods are nonsensical but I don't know if I can call that faith. I describe my position as a lack of belief so why would I now describe it as having faith? Besides if faith was confidence then what are believers confident in when adversity negates what ought to give them confidence in the first place?

I don't like semantic wranglings, I think it just muddies the waters for no clear benefit. Why can't we just say confidence instead of faith then latter trying to wrangle faith into meaning confidence. Just like those who say the universe is god, why the extra step?
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheists Debate Religionists * by LordReed(m): 6:50pm On Feb 29, 2024

Faith is the result of current belief systems as shaped by experience, whereas hope is the product of desiring a future state of affairs.

Faith is confidence or trust in something or someone.

Hope is an optimistic attitude based on expectation or desire. Meaning that there is a chance of it happening in the future.

So you mean, you feel there is a chance you achieve your goals or you may not achieve them? There is a chance you will live a good life and there is also a chance you will not?

You feel optimistic that you'll be in good health to see your grands, but what happens when you don't get to see them? Your optimism becomes a disappointment, innit?

I totally respect your opinion and disposition though. But I don't live my own life on hope. I live by faith. Therefore I do everything I ought to do to bring about what I have faith in.
Yes I have hope because none of these things are guaranteed to happen no matter how much faith you have.

PoliteActivist is not my son. She is a mature lady.

One thing you should know is that, Atheism is a personal thing.
I'm an atheist and I don't believe in God, people, and anything that I can't see, touch, feel, smell. The only thing I believe in is myself and my library(I love it so much).

There are atheists who believe people, governments, parents, pets, friends. As a matter of fact, there are atheists who believe there are ghosts and other paranormal phenomena.

Does that make them less of an atheist? Well! I don't know. I mean they do not believe there is a god because they've not encountered ha. Yet they believe in those things they've not encountered. Even if they were sure they've encountered those things that others might not have, don't they think others have encountered a god that they've not had?

Anyways that's not the point.

Atheists have faith but we don't have hope.
And it's the force of faith that drives atheists.

Atheists have faith first, then act.
Theists act, then they hope.

Faith and hope are the same in theism.
In atheism they are entirely different.

This is deep, I hope your brain power can comprehend.
If you still didn't understand, I can give you some scenarios.
I don't know what you mean because I do have hope. What faith do you think drives me? Faith in what by the way?

On February 27 2024, I was let in by Barbara Bush into more knowledge of assassination attempts on me. I used IFA to get the message from her. The attempt was in 2016 and by Enoch Adeboye.

Story

I was staying in the RCCG camp with my parents at the time. It was four years after my first psychiatric admission. A certain elderly couple older than my.parents named Pastor and Mrs Oduneye were staying next door and the woman especially was a frequent visitor to my Mum. According to IFA she had a vision and she told the vision to my Mum, the vision was that I their son might serve to bring down their Christian ministry and that there is a need to pray against such and my mother joined together with her in prayers and that was ongoing. My mother then told her younger sister Pastor Mrs Kolajo Odugbesan who also lived in the RCCG camp of the development. Mrs Odugbesan’s husband Pastor Abiodun Odugbesan is also a full time clergy of the RCCG. It was from Mrs Odugbesan that the news or information about the vision went from mouth to mouth and reached Enoch Adeboye who saw an opportunity in the situation. He swung into action via one of his connections in the underworld that is not a member of the RCCG, a man and they contacted the first son of Mrs Oduneye who is a civil servant based in Lagos via someone he regularly drinks beer with. The Mr Oduneye in question is not a member of the RCCG. He was told there is a need to kill someone living close to his mum who.is fighting.against the RCCG and living right there in the camp. He agreed and he charged them. He contacted his mum Mrs Oduneye and told her point blank that the mission is to kill me. He have her a small part of the amount he was paid and handed over the powdery poison to her that was to be used on me. His mum gave the poison to my mum saying it is a drug she needs to add to my food without telling me. She stated her reasons because according to IFA she is a Nurse, may be a psychiatric nurse. My mum took the poison from her but did not add it to my food though it was intercepted by the CIA.
The son of the Oduneyes used by Enoch Adeboye was killed later by beer poisoning as is customary with Enoch Adeboye. I remember when the man died and his parents reported the event to my parents saying his younger ones have gone to bury him.
On February 27, I messaged Barbara with the news upon finding it out from her and by the next day, I find out via IFA that Enoch Adeboye paid the Oduneyes one hundred million naira to silence them. He paid the money on February 28 2024.
If you're aren't telling this story just to catch cruise, you really need psychiatric help.
