FamilyRe: I Want To Die, 85-year-old Woman Rejected By Children Cries Out by lorhema(f): 2:53pm On Mar 02, 2017
In family relationships there is the ideal and also the far from ideal. There is no smoke without fire. She's 85 now. What kind of a person was she in her prime? A good wife, a loving mother or not. I've known a couple of DIFFICULT mothers. In one case this mum was living with her own daughter who had 2 children. It was constant battle. She always wanted to blackmail her daughter by shouting and threatening to curse her. After some years, the daughter's uncle told her to move back to her own home and not to stress his niece. That the fact that you bore her doesn't mean you should kill her. Mama moved in with her grandson, quarrelled with his wife and moved out to a relation's place. When they quarrelled, she finally moved to her house and died alone in the house about two years later. Lagos state has old people's homes and the sons should arrange to have her admitted to one if she's too much for them to handle.
BusinessRe: Popular Market In Jos "Chobe" Demolished By Unknown Personals (photos) by lorhema(f): 7:10pm On Feb 26, 2017
I go toChobe regularly. In the past, you couldn't drive along the road because it was blocked and some sold their goods on the roadeg the ugu sellers. In January, we were pleasntly surprised to find that the bar across the road had been removed and we could drive in and park because the traders were restricted to their stalls. It was too good to last. Last week, they were to be found moving onto the sides of the road again and one women actually told us not to park in front of her. She was on the road and not in her stall so we ignored her. I believe people shouldn't do the wrong thing and then insist on their rights. Other people have rights too.
We have the right to live in an orderly environment.

Thanks for responding. No, Ogbomosho mango changes colour as it ripens although it could be eaten when it's still green(but is beginning to ripen).

PoliticsRe: Reps Urge Shell To Suspend Planned Relocation Of It HQ From Port-harcourt by lorhema(f): 10:54am On Jan 27, 2017
No. This plan to move offshore is old- over 15 years ago, my cousin who was a bigshot in Shell told me that they had decided on this plan because of the issues with onshore drilling.

You could also ask for referrals from the men who sell the chippings. If you are in Lagos, there's a seller about 200m after the Ketu pedestrian bridge i.e.if you're headed towards Mile 12. I bought all my needs from him a couple of years ago.

FoodRe: Tomato Scarcity : Has Anyone Used Dried Tomatoes For Stew? by lorhema(f): 7:38pm On Dec 20, 2016
I buy a basket of UTC tomatoes, wash and slice them. Then I spread them out to dry in the sun. When dry, they still have their color and I store them for the months when tomatoes are in short supply. I haven't noticed a difference in taste and because of the quality of the tomato a little goes a long way.
FoodRe: Why Can't Ladies Cook Without "Maggi"? by lorhema(f): 6:59pm On Dec 20, 2016
My mum is a great cook.Never used stock cubes. My husband says he's been spoilt by my cooking so he doesn't appreciate food outside our home. I don't use stock cubes either. For my soups I am an iru advocate. I find Iru gives a nice flavour.
FoodRe: When You See A Man In The Market: by lorhema(f):
In the North there's no issue about men going to the market. Back home my husband wouldn't go to the market. Here he does...because he's one of the many men we've seen shopping in the market.

AgricultureRe: The Hibiscus Flower Society: Calling All Gardeners, Flower Lovers Etc by lorhema(f): 10:51pm On Dec 05, 2016
People like gardening but when you live in a flat in Lagos and experience the daily stress you are not likely to do it. We had to move from the city, and to a bungalow, to begin to enjoy growing plants for their beauty but also some for food. For us, a mix is important. We enjoy eating our tomatoes, ugu, ewedu and waterleaf while we anticipate the fruits even as we appreciate the colours of our other plants.
Thanks for sharing.
The florist who made my wedding bouquet years ago is still in business and does a satisfactory job. She's not cheap though.
AgricultureRe: Photos Of My Tomato Garden by lorhema(f): 8:50pm On Dec 05, 2016
Thanks for sharing. I planted a couple of grapevines and realised they needed some support. Now I've seen your stakes I know what to do. I've just planted some UTC tomato seeds and hope they end up as good as yours. Cheers
AgricultureRe: The A-Z Of Snail Farming In Nigeria (what Nobody Will Tell You For Free!) by lorhema(f): 3:00pm On Dec 05, 2016
@lordhugo thank you for sharing this information. I'm retired and was ill for some years. I have just begun to do the thing I like -gardening. My ugu at the backyard is wowing my family. I wanted to start snail farming on a small scale but wondered if it would work in Jos(I have slugs during the rainy season). My other questions have been answered on your thread so I plan to take off,God willing, next rainy season. I'll be ordering my breeders from you. If it works I'll expand to a plot we own. Thanks again

PropertiesRe: Calculating The Numbers Of Blocks You Need For Your Fence by lorhema(f): 1:32pm On Nov 10, 2016
Sorry but I'm back. Rather than casting pillars,I've seen many cases where the place of pillars is replicated by blocks. Isn't this a credible lower cost means of fencing a plot? The only pillars that are then cast are the 2 gate pillars. What's your view please?
