Politics / Re: Dignitaries Praise Bianca Ojukwu For Slapping Former Anambra First Lady (Video) by LoveThemChubby(m): 8:45pm On Mar 18, 2022 |
THE HYPOCRISY OF GENDER EQUALITY MESSAGES I learnt the bias was broken in Anambra yesterday. Anyone who knows me well; family, friends, colleagues, classmates etc knows I don't subscribe to the term "gender equality (GE)" especially the Nigeria version, yes, Nigerian version even though I am a humanitarian/development worker. E shock you, relax, I have my reasons. One thing they will attest to is the fact that I mainstream gender top-notch. They will also tell you that in gender workshops I ask too many questions that sometimes make the facilitators uncomfortable but a few discussions afterward have always convinced them that I have valid points. I would prefer the term "balanced inclusiveness" to gender equality. Someday I'll write about my reservation for for Nigerian version of feminism, gender activism, gender champions etc but today let's focus on women lifting women in Anambra. Some of the points from yesterday incident is part of my reservation for GE here. 1. Ebele Obiano called Bianca Ojukwu "ashawo" in the public of Igwe mmadu (in full glare of people including the media). These are same people (first ladies and Co.) that won't let us hear word with "gender equality" "women this, men against women" that. Initiating GE programmes, implementing and bashing "men" at all level for injustice. Did you see the way she walked up to Bianca? If that's not gender violence, bullying, abuse then I don't know what else it is. Since yesterday social media space have been agog with evidences of her violence on other women. In 2014, in far away Poland she called Senator Uche Ekwunife a "prostitute" in the full glare of people including the then first lady Patience Jonathan. An incident that made the first lady ban her never to be part of her entourage. Here's where I have issues with gender messages; We've been made to always think that gender violence is men against women. When we hear Sexual, Gender Based Violence (SGBV) the first thing that comes to mind is "man". We've been so focused on "men, changing men, who raised him etc" that no one asks very pertinent questions like "who raised women like Ebelechukwu Obiano?" Will the society ever listen to what Oga Obiano have been through? No, he's a man. #Breakthebias. 2. Bianca Ojukwu, another gender equality champion slapped Ebele Obiano in the full glare of the word with cameras rolling. A physical abuse against a verbal abuser. Since yesterday this act have been celebrated across social media including feminist, GE champions and activists. None of them have condemned what Bianca did. Don't get me wrong, I am not in any way supportive of the former Governor's wife. Infact if she walked up to me in such manner I won't slap her just once. She would have left with swollen eyes, twisted arms and some broken ribs. It's okay, I never told you it's a crime to defend yourself against an abuser. I don't take sh*t. My point is, why didn't Bianca return verbal abuse, why go physical violence? Now here again is where I have issues with GE messages. The same people celebrating this have in the past submitted, posited, declared and stood for on this same space that "no amount of verbal abuse justifies a man physically abusing his wife". My question is what changed yesterday? Because its a woman verbal abuse now justifies physical violence? I have never and will never support a man hitting a woman. Please get the point. The double standard, hypocrisy and confusion is why my reservation for GE. My gender tend to shift the goal post at will, twist the rules to suit our interests and victory per time. It reeks more of a scam than a course to me. #breaktherealbias 3. I saw a post from a feminist yesterday. She wrote and I quote "Talk true o.....if Odumegwu Ojukwu was sitting beside Bianca do you think that Ebele Obiano would have the guts to walk up to her and insult her“. I was like wow! Is she admitting now that a woman's husband/man represents coverage, protection, shield for her? No she's a feminist, she can't say this especially in public. Attached is also is a comment from another feminist. I was shocked at her quick shift and I asked her "what is wrong with you guys? One minute it's partnership, nobody is the Head then another minute you are forcing the man to be the Head because matter don reach responsibility". Now the man is the head, the man is stronger because she's asked to give to a man without expectation. See her reaction, the same people that wants a man to give without expectation. What exactly do we want? You see, too many times we twist the GE messages to represent our interest and arguments per time. It is never what it was yesterday. Why can't we be consistent, stick to one message no matter which gender is affected? Why is it okay when a woman does it and not okay when a man does same? Why is it always about one gender and not the other? Why does GE seem to focus so much on "men and women" instead of the myriad of gender and exclusion issues? #whatistherealbias These are just a few of my problem GE arising from the incident in Anambra. Please note, I don't like going with the crowd just because they are many. I am okay being the only one on the other side. I like asking questions that no one wants to ask so I won't be supprise with reactions to this post.

Politics / Hypocrisy: High Oil Prices Good For Others But Bad For This Administration by LoveThemChubby(m): 6:56am On Mar 12, 2022 |
The Buhari administration is one full of hypocricy. Over the years, the administration has been shouting to high heavens how past administrations sold crude at high rates yet did nothing with the proceeds. However, when fortunes smiled on the same administration since the start of the Ukraine-Russia war, the tune has changed to "the high oil prices are bad for Nigeria". This to me is the height of hypocrisy. Is it that the higher amounts paid for subsidy due to soaring oil prices were not paid by past administrations? 2 Likes |

Watch out for Abaribe. He is an intelligent politician. He knows that no SE candidate at the moment can win PDP presidential ticket or the main election even if the PDP mircozones it to the SE. Tinubu did same to Ribadu in 2011 and Atiku in 2007 in ACN when it was clear that they cannot win against the government in power at the time. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Cryofigbos:Did you even read what I wrote? I guess no. It baffles me how some of you confidently and ignorantly insult people online, making unsavory remarks. I know reading is a big problem for this generation so let me help you understand a few things in summary. In my earlier comment, I said 1. The SE actually has low bandwidth penetration 2. I don't agree with the other user's assertion that the low usage in the south east is because the people of the region travel out and leave just few people back home. Instead I pointed out that Igbo villages are even more inhabited 3. I advanced the high cost involved in putting in place telecom infrastructure as the major reason for the poor availability of telecom infrastructure in the SE and consequently low growth rate. |
Phones / Re: Internet Penetration: Why South East Remains Lowest At 13.7 Million Users by LoveThemChubby(m): 1:34pm On Mar 02, 2022 |
SmartPolician: I beg to differ. The Igbos have one of the best rural settings you can ever think of. That is, you still find a good number of people in the village compared to most areas where people leave the villages and only a handful remain. I strongly believe that the cost of doing business accounts for this low penetration because the amount it will cost a telecom company to erect one mast in the south east can be used to erect 4-6 masts in the north. 2 Likes 1 Share |

PrinceOfLagos:Those of you who push forward this SE narrative, is it plain ignorance or just mischief? When power is to shift to the north no mention is made of North East, North Central or North west regions but once it is about the south, you start preaching south east, south west and south south. For the record, the country is politically divided into two: North and South. Once it is the turn of a region (North or South), we don't talk geopolitical zones (i.e. South south, south east, south west, NE, NW and NC). |

Politics / Re: Pat Utomi: If Igbo Want Me To Contest For Presidency, I Won’t Decline by LoveThemChubby(m): 2:48pm On Jan 23, 2022 |
specialmati:For the record, presidency in Nigeria is not rotated on a tribal basis but rather on a regional basis (North and South). That is why GEJ could become president from a not so dominant tribe. Presidency is not just given. Igbo politicians should wake up and live up to their responsibility so that they can produce a president. So stop the talk and do the needed work of building bridges and capacity. |
Politics / Re: 2023: South-East Won’t Accept VP Slot, Igbo Leaders Warn by LoveThemChubby(m): 1:39pm On Jan 23, 2022 |
The south east will continue to play backstage in the political arena for a long because they don't have political foresight. When I hear some of their politicians resort to issuing treaths directly and indirectly, I just laugh because it is obvious that they don't understand how politics work. It is high time they realize that power is not given but taken and that it takes capacity and bridge building to take power. Here is my take: 1. Which politician in the south east can square out in an election with a northern candidate and win? OBJ and Jonathan did it from the SW and SS respectively. Recently Kalu said he can only contest if the party's ticket ia zoned to the SE- this shows that himself is not convinced that he can win in a kinly contested primaries. This is why I said igbo politicians must build capacity and bridges. As it currently stands, I don't think there's any igbo politician that has northern appeal like Amaechi. This means that if he is to contest against a candidate from the SE in an election, he will most likely floor the candidate. Buhari was a regioner champion (northern) and couldn't win an election until he built bridges with people from the SW, SS and SE. This should be a lesson to SE politicians. 2. All the two democratically elected presidents from the north have been from the north west (Katsina to be precise). Should the NE, NC now also begin to threaten others? When it is the turn of a region (we only have two: North and South) to produce the presidency, it is left for members of the region to decide on a candidate) _The SE should therefore concentrate on building capacity and bridges. For then and only then can they access the presidency. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Bola146:You should be praising the man for even surpressing his anger. The man feels his anger is justifiable but isn't sure that is why he brought it here to seek the opinion of others before bringing it up with his wife so what's wrong with that? It's obviously not the first time this is happening but his anger is that: 1. He was very hungry and requested for the breakfast 2. His wife had to wake her sleeping brother and serve him breakfast first before coming to serve him who was already awake and very hungry. 3. If he is to meet his own sister's request before his wife's, all hell will break loose even if his sister's need is more pressing than that of his wife. Now look at the above 3 points and tell me why he shouldn't be angry. @poster, personally I will advice you talk to her about it but after your anger must have decipated. 5 Likes 1 Share |
