Crazypilot and Airborne360, I've got a question for you guys or any other fighter pilot in this thread , however a response from the fine gentlemen would be most helpful.

My question is, we have been led to believe that you cannot have an accurate bombing of a target without a Targeting Pod, a JDAM guidance kit or any sort of modern guidance kit. This information has emanated mostly from American propaganda news channels or the many other foreign, mainly Western defence forums we visit.

Over the past 18 months the Nigerian Air Force has released 40 combat videos, including a capability demonstration video, how is it that in these videos we have never seen a target missed, either through bombs, rockets or cannon fire?

I'm not saying modern targeting tools like a Sniper, Lightening or WMD-7 pod are absolutely needed , but how come the NAF is able to achieve 100% kill ratios without these tools?

*the Rann incident been the only blight in this record in 6 years of continuous combat sorties.

Ironically, the SANDF then went and made exactly the same mistake in the 90's when they got rid of the Eland90's.
A upgraded Eland with denel's fire ctrl. made for that turret and a 2.4 diesel would be perfect for peacekeeping in Africa.
C-130 transportable with just enough firepower to deal with rebels on landcrousers.
Wow a lot of Stuff went to waste.The Elands are being used right now in Nigeria.

As well as you and Airborne360, there are other Nigerian soldiers in the thread, as well as South-African navy, army and air force contributors. We also have a Namibian soldier and an Indian soldier/contractor.

Including civilians from 6 different African countries who by the way do the most of the posting.

As you say, it's a fantastic thread, however without the contribution of every individual in the thread there would be nothing fantastic for you to see and comment on. We hope to see non-classified photos from you, no b siddon look matter.

While I always liked the Ingwe missile, its usefulness (like all ATGMs) is limited when fighting in thick bush.

In Angola, for instance the Ratel ZT3s were only able to engage the Angolan T-55s when they briefly came out into the open on a flat flood plain. They would've destroyed a hell of a lot more tanks than those initial three otherwise.

The inefficiency of long range ATGMs in this terrain, as well as the relatively close quarters of engagement, mean that RPG type weapons or direct fire from cannon are practically the only way for ground forces to kill tanks in the particular environment type.

If you want to have a giggle, google German military readiness - there is an article from Der Speigel that shows how pathetic it is. Its beyond shocking, and there was no excuse because it was AFTER the Crimea crisis

Hell, just last year there was a story about how they were using broomsticks to simulate machine guns on armored vehicles for exercises because they didn't have enough working ones to go around.
For Germans they should be seriously concerned, there are verified reports that German Soldiers are not being trained properly on their equipment prior to leaving for Afghanistan and may have contributed to some of their KIA what is disconcerting about this ,they had time to prepare their APCs for AFRICA apparently this was not considered important enough, this is not good.

The Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Army day celebrations have been unbridled successes. What does the Navy have is store, I guess we would have to wait for Navy day to find out.


Hopefully in next year's edition of NAF day, all weapons fired would be made or partly made in Nigeria.


We have started with unguided rockets this year, next year should be guided.

NAF TEST FIRES LOCALLY PRODUCED ROCKETS


The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully test fired 30.1mm ground to air Inert Head Rockets locally produced by its Research and Development Team. The rockets were test fired during the Weapons Meet at Kwenev Air Range, Makurdi to commemorate the 53rd anniversary celebration of the NAF. Also produced by the NAF R& D were the ground based rail launcher and vehicle mounted rail rocket launcher. The rocket launchers are fired through a remotely controlled firing based system. Aside from the display of air defence weapon, there was also a spectacular demonstration of weapon delivery by some of the NAF platforms. The aircraft fired both rockets and canons with high level of precision. A total of 4 NAF aircraft participated in the weapons meet with each arriving over the range with a spacer pass at 200ft for the helicopters and 300ft for the jets. The participating aircraft included Augusta 109 LUH with backdoor gunner, L-39ZA, Alpha Jet and F-7Ni. The exercise was aimed at sharpening the targeting skills of NAF pilots to acquire and engage targets as well as test the precision of the aircraft in hitting the targets. Four designated targets were identified and the formations attacked the targets one after the other starting with cobra, tiger and aggressor formations.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonishakin felicitated with the NAF on its 53rd anniversary celebration and commended the commitment of the current NAF leadership for improving the capacity of officers and men. “Today, I am proud to declare that the NAF has lived up to expectation. This sequencing, airmanship and accurate delivery of firepower from the various platforms that participated at the Air Weapons Meet are highly commendable”.

Gen Olonishakin also disclosed that Nigeria can boast of an Air Force that can deliver appropriate air power as witnessed in the North East where the NAF air interdiction, ground attack and close air support missions played a pivotal role in the counter-terrorism/insurgency operations.
