Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi on Friday disclosed that a total of 2,381 COVID-19 patients in Lagos were yet to be admitted to any of the isolation centres in the state. Abayomi also said Lagos contributes 42 per cent out of the 58 per cent of coronavirus burden in Nigeria. Giving the summary of COVID-19 cases on his Twitter handle, the Commissioner added that the State accounts for only 23.6 per cent of the recorded deaths due to COVID-19 in Nigeria. He, however, said the summary suggests competence in the management of confirmed cases in the state. He said: “Under the distribution of cases by local government, Eti-Osa local government continues to have the highest number of reported cases of COVID-19 in Lagos State. “Lagos has 9,497 confirmed COVID-19 cases. 5,064 are believed to have recovered in the community, 1,470 admitted and discharged, 447 currently admitted while 2,381, yet to be admitted due to wrong information and or preference for self-care at home, Abayomi added. In a related development, the Lagos state government is collaborating with the Federal Government to establish Community Care Centres (CCCs) in four Local Governments to test-run the healthcare model in the country as part of efforts to flatten the Coronavirus curve in Lagos. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/covid-19-2381-patients-in-lagos-not-in-isolation-centres-abayomi/ |

What did they gain with the five to six weeks they lockdown before? Absolutely nothing other than hardship to the masses. Best time to lockdown but house rent has expired, NEPA bill to increase by July, millions of Nigerians have lost their jobs so far, businesses dying because they were opening thrice in a week without even sales. |
Oshomole may not have enough strength to campaign for pastor Ize ooo Because he has a lot thinking about now. |

Anybody who believed that Tinubu and Oshomele won today is just deceiving his or her self. My own joy is that Oshomele is not campaigning with Ize Iyamu as national chairman of APC. That will totally reduce his influence. |
Frontline governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming election in Edo state, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama has said he instituted the lawsuit against the party to prevent impending disaster following the way Governor Obaseki was being imposed on party stakeholders by the national leadership ahead of the primaries scheduled for Thursday, June 25. Ogebide-Ihama in his address to members of the PDP and the people of Edo state on Wednesday stressed that as painful as it was “it is the quickest and most necessary thing to do at this time to save our party from an impending disaster.” He said the injunction was about the flawed process that was adopted to put the governor on the ballot for the primaries. Recall that Governor Obaseki joined the PDP last week after he was denied the chance to seek reelection in the All Progressives Congress (APC) under which he had ruled Edo state for the past four years. Ogbeide-Ihama noted that as a loyal and committed member of the party he had laboured to build a vibrant, peaceful and stable structure and would not sit back and allow a situation where certain leaders in the party would plot to stop his ambition of becoming governor of the state by trying to impose Obaseki as the party’s flag bearer against the will of the stakeholders in an illegal and unjust manner. “Before I embarked on this project to serve our state in executive capacity over a year ago, I consulted extensively with leaders within and outside our party, and with the assurances and promise of support I got, we embarked on the tedious and demanding process of reaching out and building relationships and alliances with our members across the 18 local Governments of the state. “This year-long exercise culminated with another ‘meet-the-delegates tour’ across the state last week, after which we came back to prepare for primaries. Suddenly the brewing plan by certain ‘leaders’ in our party who for certain reasons had decided they were going to stop my ambition by all means shockingly materialized with their bringing the Governor into the party on the same day we were to have primaries they had influenced to be postponed. “I have spent quite some time in politics and I understand that due to its dynamism, sudden strategic calculations may necessitate re-alignments and the need to make sacrifices. What I found difficult to understand was the brazen manner in which a process that was a few hours to completion could be bastardized, established rules and due process turned on its head, hard-work and efforts treated so inconsequentially, and key stakeholders treated so shabbily and disrespectfully, all in the bid to enthrone what had all the clothing of illegality. No dedicated member of the PDP deserves to be treated that way,’ ’he said. He said that a critical look at the process adopted to allow the governor participate in the primaries will show that probably as a result of the rush to make it happen, a couple of illegalities may have been made which could create legal loopholes for opponents of the party or aggrieved parties to exploit. “It is expected that we learn lessons from the situation in the last elections with the opposing party in Zamfara and Rivers States,” he said. Ogbeide-Ihama said that even with such travesty and injustice, his loyalty to the party was first consideration, adding that in the event of an ugly situation, which necessitates a change, the least that was expected was that a meeting would be called where issues could be tabled and discussed, especially pertaining to the internal and external dangers related to the process that brought in the governor. “Nothing of such was done. That a man marries a new wife does not mean the old one must be sent packing ingloriously, forgetting that she contributed to the attraction the new wife saw in the man in the first place,” he said. The federal lawmaker insisted that his action was not an affront to the party or its leadership as some people may decide to interpret it, but rather a last attempt to save the party from making a major blunder that could lead to series of lawsuits with a possibility of disqualification of the party from participating in the September 2020 Edo Governorship Elections. “I state unequivocally that I was very happy to welcome our governor His Excellency Godwin Obaseki into the party. PDP remains a progressive umbrella that is open to everyone that can add value to our common goal, and I believe our governor offers such value. He said the rules must not be twisted or broken to give undue advantage to anyone above others adding that a well-conducted process will produce a candidate and whoever that candidate is will have his full support. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/edo-guber-i-instituted-lawsuit-to-save-pdp-from-impending-disaster/ |

World Finance lists the top five fasting-growing economies in Africa, according to the World Economic Forum. 1 – Ethiopia (8.5% GDP growth rate) Efforts to modernise Ethiopia’s economy have paid off. A wave of privatisation, with state-owned companies being sold to overseas investors in China, saw FDI growth hit 27.6 percent in 2016/17. The Ethiopian Government has also stepped up to the plate with substantial state investment to boost infrastructure and support sustainable solutions. Hoping to rival the manufacturing sectors of China and India thanks to its cheap labour costs, the country has also made efforts to improve its trading relationships and promote Ethiopian products. However, the modernisation of the economy has not been all smooth sailing: as the country moves away from its reliance on agriculture, the reforms have sparked public unrest and raised concerns about the government’s human rights record. 2 – Côte d’Ivoire (7.4% GDP growth rate) The Ivory Coast is one of the nations that benefitted from the 50 percent African franc devaluation in 1994. This helped to control the resulting hike in inflation, while making exports more competitive. The nation also benefits from excellent infrastructure, making it attractive to foreign inflows. This is boosted further by the government stepping up a programme called the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2016-20, which is aimed at encouraging investment. Challenges remain, however: the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a report in 2018 that highlighted the effects of climate change on nations such as the Ivory Coast. The country has a heavy coastal population of 7.5 million, contributing to 80 percent of its GDP. The report predicts that, on the current path, climate-induced impacts are expected to “drive the loss of coastal resources”. 3 – Senegal (7% GDP growth rate) Senegal is one of Africa’s most stable countries, experiencing three peaceful political transitions since it gained independence from France in 1960. However, increased extremism in neighbouring countries has been a cause for concern in recent years. Senegal’s economy remains highly dependent on agriculture, accounting for 15.4 percent of GDP, though variable weather conditions can play a large part in this figure. Fortunately, the nation has a highly developed tourism industry, and with its extensive coastline, it also operates as a shipping hub – another driving force behind its high growth rates. Dakar, as the capital of the former federation of French West Africa, is home to numerous banks and institutions that serve the continent’s Francophone countries. 4 – Tanzania (6.4% GDP growth rate) East Africa’s second-largest economy, Tanzania, is a nation in transition. But despite the country’s promising GDP growth rates, an estimated 46 percent of the population remains in poverty: many of the gains in GDP have so far been unequally shared between citizens. As with others in this list, Tanzania remains highly dependent on agriculture with no signs of this abating – in fact, between 2014 and 2015, the sector’s contribution to GDP increased by 0.2 percent. That said, the nation is also a regional leader in the financial services sector. The Bank of Tanzania allows non-banking institutions to provide financial services, a daring move that has proved to be rewarding. The country also benefits from a stable deficit that has remained modest – 2.1 percent in 2017/18 – meaning investments into the country pose less risk than others on the continent. 5 – Ghana (6.3% GDP growth rate) Neighbour to the Ivory Coast, Ghana is the third Western African country to feature on the list. The country boasts a rich range of resources: it is Africa’s second-largest producer of gold, and has an abundant supply of diamonds and oil. To supplement trade, Ghana imposes various tariffs or barriers compared to neighbouring countries, and its depreciating currency has made the nation’s exports more competitive. Consequently, agriculture accounts for around 20 percent of GDP, while also employing half of the country’s workforce. However, in 2015, a drop in oil prices and lax government spending forced Ghana to apply for an IMF bailout of $1bn. It is on track to exit the agreement later this year. |

OK, but with who? |
The immediate past Speaker of the Edo Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Adjoto, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Adjoto, who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Benin, said that he took the decision after deeply consulting with his conscience, family, friends and his teeming supporters. He said resignation was also in line with Article 9.5(i) of the APC constitution. He noted that the decision was nostalgically clothed with apparel of mixed feelings as it translated to leaving the party he had contributed to build for more than a decade. He, however, said that the necessity of his decision to resign was firmly hinged on the interest of his supporters and Edo people in general, saying “my resignation takes immediate effect”. https://thenationonlineng.net/immediate-past-speaker-of-edo-assembly-resigns-from-apc/ |
The crisis rocking Rivers chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened following rejection of Igo Aguma as the acting Chairman of the party by 28 out of 38 statutory members of the party. The statutory members resolved to suspend Aguma as the acting Chairman and constituted another caretaker committee led by Sokonte Davies. Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the statutory members said Aguma was acting against the spirit and letters of the High Court judgement that made him a caretaker chairman.
