Resign, apologise to Nigerians, Junaid Mohammed tells Malami • AGF’s memo demonstration that Nigeria’s led by greedy officials, PDP chieftain, Sarka • Malami doesn’t have right to pull down anyone under him — CAN By Bashir Bello, Kano & Ibrahim Hassan Wuyo, Kaduna Leading voices in the North, yesterday, expressed divergent views over the memo reportedly written by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to sack chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over sundry offences, ranging from diversion of recovered loot, insubordination and lack of control, among others. The leaders, who spoke from Kano and Kaduna, both in the North West, where Malami hails from, said it was wrong for Malami to try to bring down Magu at all cost, despite the risky assignment he has performed for Nigeria in the last five years. They include Dr. Junaid Mohammed, a medical practitioner and politician from Kano, Danjuma Sarki, a top-ranking Peoples Democratic leader in Kaduna and the Kaduna State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev John Joseph Hayab. Junaid Mohammed, who was a member of the 2014 Constitutional Conference, berated Malami for daring to accuse Magu of fraud, insubordination and disloyalty, apparently due to his inability to pocket Magu to lose focus on the anti-graft war. Mohammed, therefore, advised Malami to resign and tender unreserved apology to Nigerians and President Buhari who appointed him into the exalted position he is trying to ridicule. Malami should urgently resign if he feels uncomfortable with Magu, a man hailed and feared by many crooked persons because of his unwavering disposition in the fight against graft. “In his words, if he means that Magu should break the law and allow him (the AGF) to act arbitrarily and put his own consideration over the national consideration and provision of the laws; if he is not happy and he must have complained to the President and the President has not deemed it fit to remove Magu, Malami should have common sense and common decency to resign. “After all he is a political appointee. President Buhari would not sack one of them. But he, the AGF, should resign because he is the one who is unhappy by making such scandalous statement aimed at belittling Magu. But it is actually the President that he is belittling, not Magu.” On allegation that Magu is not transparent enough by paying more money from recovered loot into the CBN than what he claimed, Dr. Junaid said: “They should investigate and we should be very careful because what the Attorney General of Federation, Malami, says or does is suspect because he has never had other issues with Magu. ”The important thing to realize is that we must follow the law. The law does not give the kind of leverage to anybody to open his mouth and accuse anybody. If the AGF has started a media propaganda campaign against the principal officer of one of the most important agencies of government, then there must be something fundamentally wrong.” But a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain in Kaduna, Danjuma Sarki, said the memo released by Malami to President Buhari was an indication that looting and re-looting of Nigerians’ common patrimony was still rampant, despite Buhari’s claim of fighting graft. “The number of high profile corruption cases and the suspects who were allowed to go scot-free by this administration through intentional act and poorly prosecuted cases are alarming and should worry the government which claims to be fighting corruption. “This is a testimony of the failure of the President himself and the people he has entrusted with responsibilities. It is rather unfortunate that Nigeria is being led by incompetent and greedy people who are working at cross purposes for their personal interests,” Sarki said. On his part, the Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev John Joseph Hayab, berated the AGF for taking a matter he should have called Magu and discussed privately into a scandalous memo without any evidence to prove his allegations against a subordinate. Hayab noted: “We must not allow this poor tradition of portraying every appointee in bad light just to have him or her removed or have their career destroyed. One good thing you must give credit to this current administration is not rushing to remove any appointee just because some people are speaking ill of him. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/anti-magu-memo-northern-leaders-differ-with-agf-malami/ |

By Omeiza Ajayi – Abuja The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has warned commercial sex workers operating in the territory to respect all the COVID-19 protocols especially the 10 pm to 4 am curfew, noting that they are not on the exemption list of workers on essential duties. The Administration also warned operators of nightclubs, bars, and gardens across the city not to open for business until the COVID-19 restriction order is lifted. Chairman of the FCT Ministerial Enforcement Taskforce team on COVID-19 Restrictions, Ikharo Attah handed down the warning at the weekend when the team went round Kubwa, Gwarinpa, and Wuse to monitor the level of compliance by operators. Addressing journalists after the operation, Attah noted that, “the ban on nightclubs, parks, and bars is yet to be lifted hence the need for us to sustain routine inspection and ensure compliance. We believe that if we relax too much, with the number of positive Covid-19 cases on the rise it would not be good for the city.” Attah who expressed satisfaction with the high level of compliance by the nightclub operators was however not happy with the high number of suspected commercial sex workers around buildings housing the nightclubs at Kubwa. He pointed out that, “the presence of the ladies of the night is a violation of the curfew because they are not on the exemption list of essential workers. Their presence made us to carry out full checks on some nightclubs which are truly closed. At moments like this, we expect them to stop the unholy trade in their own interest because the men who may patronize them may be Covid-19 positive.” Speaking on the shutting down of a bar at Wuse 2, the chairman said, “We got several calls that Reset Nightclub and Bar located at Lobito Crescent in Wuse 2 was fully operational. But when we got there we discovered that it wasn’t true. A bar operating in a plaza located opposite the nightclub, as we all found out this night, was the one operating and playing very loud music which necessitated the calls and complaints we got from residents of the area.” The team shut down the bar and confiscated some of its loudspeakers which were handed over to Enforcement officials from the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB. The chairman explained that the team would be extending its checks on nightclubs in the suburbs while appealing to FCT residents to stay at home during the curfew periods and not endanger their lives. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/covid-19-commercial-sex-workers-not-on-essential-duties-fcta-warns/ |

By Adekunle Jimoh, Ilorin Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state has insisted Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is behind internal crisis rocking the party in the state. A faction of the party led by the Deputy Chairman Abdullahi Samari however exonerated the Governor from the internecine intra-party wrangling in the state. But in a statement, Financial Secretary and Treasurer of the party, Mohammed Shola Tajudeen and Alhaji Dantala Yaro, said some members of the party who recently attended a parley with the State Government on behalf of the leadership of the party did not have consent to do so. The statement said: “Our attention has been drawn to a parley held between the state governor, represented by the secretary to the state government, members of the state house of assembly and a group of people purported to be the leadership of the APC in kwara state. “For avoidance of doubt, we affirm unequivocally that the state chairman of the party in kwara state is Hon Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa. In line with the provisions of the party’s constitution, the deputy chairman can only represent the chairman at any official function at the behest of the chairman. The claim that the leadership of the party attended the said parley is spurious and unfounded as the group of people who supposedly attended the occasion did not represent the leadership of the party and did not have the instruction of the chairman to do so. ”The continued hobnobbing with these group of people by the state governor and his appointees to the neglect of the state chairman has given a clear indication that not only is the governor behind the crisis in the party,he is the one fuelling it. “We, the treasurer and financial secretary of the party are the custodians of the party account and therefore know the true position of the account.” stressing that, “any accusation of financial wrongdoing against the state chairman is merely a figment of their imagination. The state chairman is of an impeccable character.” The statement also accused some members of the executives, who claim to have disagreement with the state chairman of not raising it at any of their executive meetings before they absconded. “Their claim that the crisis is internal is untrue to the extent that they are the protagonists who are internally motivated from the day they gave themselves up for the divisive politics and manipulation of the governor at a price. “The intention of the group is very clear, they decided to pitch their tent where their bread will be best buttered QED. In the process they are destroying the house they helped to build without any qualms or any thought of the place of posterity as the best judge of all our actions. “The aloofness and silence of the governor to their destabilizing activities lend credence to his support for them,” the statement said. https://thenationonlineng.net/abdulrazaq-responsible-for-crisis-kwara-apc-insists/ |

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its governorship primary in Edo. Its spokesman, Kola Ologbodiyan, stated this in a tweet on Thursday. The primary was slated for Monday, June 22. Though didn’t explain the reason for the postponement, it was gathered it may not be unconnected with the defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki any moment from now. https://thenationonlineng.net/just-in-pdp-postpones-edo-primary-over-obaseki/ |

The controversy surrounding the Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress has deepened as two persons have laid claim to the position following the appeal court’s decision that upheld the suspension of Mr Adams Oshiomhole. Following the decision, the party’s National Working Committee affirmed former Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi as the Acting National Chairman on Tuesday. But due to Mr Ajimobi’s unavoidable absence, the NWC on Wednesday, appointed the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Hilliard Etta to act on his behalf. On the other hand, the APC Deputy National Secretary, Mr Victor Giadom also declared himself as the acting National Chairman, on the strength of a Federal Capital Territory High Court order obtained on March 16. Meanwhile, a legal document has surfaced, from a group in the southwest, claiming that the position of the Deputy National Chairman, south of the APC is still vacant and that the party’s acting National Chairman, Abiola Ajimobi is not eligible to occupy the seat. The group’s lawyer, Babatunde Oke said in a statement that the suit was instituted at the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti on February 12, 2020, against the APC National Working Committee and Ajimobi asking the court, among other things, to fill up the position in line with the party’s constitution. The statement explained that at the time it was instituted, Senator Ajimobi’s name had not been purportedly recognised, but he was later announced as the Deputy National Chairman, south of the party. It added that Ajimobi’s lawyer had also denied his appointment in court on March 23, as the court warned that all parties desist from changing the status quo on the suit. The group insists that Senator Ajimobi is not recognised as the substantive Deputy National Chairman, south of the APC and can, therefore, not act as the party’s National Chairman. Consequently, they asked the National Working Committee to take note of the suit and desist from committing contempt of court. https://www.channelstv.com/2020/06/17/controversy-as-giadom-etta-lay-claim-to-apc-chairmanship-seat/ |
