Hey !

Your list above is interwoven ...BUT I WILL CHOOSE.

1. Payment of SEVIS fee ...because it will cement your Form I 20. SEVIS department are the one responsible for your I 20 record . YOU also need to attach SEVIS receipt to be able to qualify for emergency appointment if need be .

2. Payment of Visa fee... Without it you cannot book an appointment.

3. Filling of DS 160.....you need the DS 160 confirmation number to be inputted in your CGI page and it must reflect in your appointment confirmation letter . The US embassy also knows everything about you via your DS 160 confirmation number .

4. Going ahead to book your appointment.

Cheers .

Oh thanks for this. But I think I have seen someone saying one can book appointment before filling the DS 160

A quick one, will someone that is fully sponsored with tuition fee waiver and monthly stipend be asked to pay the normal initial deposit before processing CAS?

Also, will a PhD student have to pay £470*5 = £2,350 for IHS assume the study duration is 5 years?

Just a curious mind

There are a couple of terminal master's programs that are funded (you can use usnews.com to find schools with terminal master's in economics or the AEA website to find those schools with master's in economics without PhD).

As for the GRE optional school, I hope you get into them however, I would like to remind you that you are competing with so many others like you trying to avoid the exam thus, your grades will play a big role.

Lastly, from the experience of many that I know, I would advise you go through the master's as jumping straight into a PhD in Economics can be very challenging because we do not have adequate mathematical background. Similarly, most schools require a minor in mathematics which unfortunately, in Nigeria, we do not meet.

Your comments are always full of experience and wisdom. I will consider the terminal Masters. I appreciate

GboyegaD:

Are you planning to write GRE? I would suggest you do and focus more on the QA and AW. Most schools (not so sure about recent times) focus on GRE as a decision maker for Economics PhD (talking from experience).

Also, you mind sharing what school you finished from and how your Mathematics/Statistics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics grades are? Would you consider attending a terminal master's in economics before proceeding to a PhD?
I wish I can write the GRE but the fee is just not here...over two months salary if I'm not mistaking. I have been focusing on schools that made GRE optional or those that do not request for it at all... especially European countries.

I finished from UNN, the courses you listed were fairly ok at undergraduate but excellent at PG (As few B).

If the terminal Masters will be sponsored, I could definitely, but my target is direct PhD

What course are you going for?

Your profile is already competitive, but like someone mentioned, address the Bsc GPA in your SOP.

Also apply to schools that require application fees, it will broaden your chances.
Economics
Thanks for the words

I am not sure you should be bothered about your low CGPA. Find schools who have your program of interest and is comfortable with your CGPA. Just make sure you address the low CGPA and all you have done to make yourself suitable for the program in your CGPA.
Thank you for this

Very naive people who can't strategize. Na nzobu nzobu gra gra dem sabi. Instead of them to collect September first. Well CBN no dey under them sha and federal agencies like presidency, judiciary, customs are rumoured to have started collecting September salary. Although I'm not sure they are under ippis like the reste

If you don't have savings from what you have been earning since this year to sustain you then is better you resign from this job.

This strike will be total and indefinite
Career / Re: Has Any Federal Civil Servant Received The New Minimum Wage? by LudaChriz(m): 10:48pm On Sep 26, 2023
Total and indefinite strike is the way to go. We have a very insensitive govt in power. Over 4 months after pump price moved from 180 to 610, your workers are still receiving the same salary and you're asking them to be patient

Greetings to the gurus here for the great work you are doing.

For someone with 3.23 GPA in BSc, 4.90 in PGD and 4.69 in MSc, with 2 scopus publication and 1 already accepted, and one Thomson Reuters also accepted (all first author); with about 2 years lecturing experience, what are the chances like for a PhD considering the low BSc GPA

I noticed most US schools emphasize more on BSc GPA

This is something that should have started since January this year, almost a year after, we're seeing memo when we don't even know when they will start paying.

So what's the congratulations for

Government has really dealt with Nigerians to the extent that if they punish you by 200% and just favour you by 1% you will start dancing and forget the punishment
