Yep. It is a sad case where an African will insult his history just to defend a foreign religion

Evil Brain: The Pink Unicorn argument is basically identical to the Flying Spaghetti Monster argument which was first proposed by the great Bobby Henderson seven years ago.

Back then the Kansas Board of Education was considering including creationism and Intelligent Design in the school curriculum alongside evolution. Mr. Henderson argued that he believed that the universe was created by an invisible, undetectable, omnipotent being that closely resembled spaghetti and meatballs. He pointed out that there was just as much evidence that the FSM created the world as there was that god did therefore both theories are equally valid. He then demanded that the FSM theory also be taught in schools and that it be given equal time in classrooms with Intelligent Design and Evolution.

Basically if you accept one outlandish idea without evidence, then you should be willing to accept others. And if you reject one, you should be willing to reject others. Otherwise, you are not thinking rationally.
Gbam!!!!

simple summary of the argument. Nice

ba7man: This is a topic i love. Christianity is a religion in which its foundation is "LOVE". Trust me, if u see ppl doin evil things and they claim to be Christians, they are not following the bible and also Christians base their beliefs on the teachings of Christ. Our traditional religions were relions of "FEAR". Our ancestors worshiped things they didnt understand. THey see a large tree and instead of dominating it(to make tables and chairs) as the God of christianity commands, they worship it. They even worshippd chickenpox "sapona"(like how daft can you get?). Fear restricts discovery and thats why our societies were backwards doin all sorts of funny things when the white christians "dominated" the seas to get to our lands to "dominate" us with our backwards religions.
Christ? The same racist guy that clearly said that he came for the lost sheep of isreal only?

Delafruita: a miracle doesnt have to conform to your idea of it.i have witnessed miracles or at least occurences that defied every sense of reasoning.

a personal example.

my dad used to suffer from severe sinusitis.when i say sever,i mean absolutely severe.he has had sinusitis ever since the day i became aware of things as a boy.according to my Ma,hez had it ever since she married him though it was mild.the man was a freestyle man and (un)luckily, his alcohol dehydrogenase level was very high so he could down 8 bottles of star(his favourite) without even getting tipsy.all this together with his smoking made his sinusitis severe and sometime around 2007 it got so worse he couldnt sleep.mind you he had always taken medication.infact he has used drugs for his cattarh every single day dor the 27years i have been on earth.but by 2007,it was decided he had to seek medical help abroad.it was very ridiculous for a person to travel abroad to treat a cattarh but it was very severe.his first trip was to london.it got better but it didnt leave completely and then it returned.then he was reffered to a hospital in manchester, then liverpool and then he eventually went to america.he went to america in 2010 and spent 3months on treatment(for cattarh).later that same year,he sought help in south africa.by early 2011,he went to germany and it was decided that he needed a surgery that will also include a nose recontruction.i cant recall all the medical jargon but we were assured the surgey would put an end to it.coincindentally,my dad had planned a trip to makkah for that year's hajj but he was told he'd need 2 months for post-surgery rehabilitation which meant he'd have to miss the hajj.he insisted on going and having the surgery after hajj so his german doctors gave him some medication to reduce it for the period.

according to him,he drank of the famed zemzem water and he fell into a deep sleep.by the time he woke up,his cattarh was completely gone.now my dad has never been a serious muslim.he goes to church once in a while and allows everyone their freedom.my mum is a strong christian so it isnt like my dad is a mullah or something.i cant remember him praying on a mat and the only reason he went to makkah was to relieve the pressure of his extended family.

suffice to say,he didnt go for the surgery.he visited his doctor here in lagos who did all manner of tests and also discovered his previously high sugar level was below normal and even advised him to take more sugar.

i dont know your definition of miracle, but for me,thats one hell of a miracle.if you think there's an explanation for that occurence, give it
sinsitis is curable. End of story.

#next miracle

obadiah777: JUST A SIDE NOTE, AND A POSSIBLE EXPLANATION, NOT SAYING CHRIST CANT PERFORM MIRACLES, BUT TURNING WATER INTO WINE SOUNDS LIKE PURE MAGIC. NOW SUPPOSE ALL THESE ARE SYMBOLIC ? OK TURNING WATER INTO WINE. WHAT IS WATER ? WATER IS A SEA OF PEOPLE ( BIBLICAL LINGO ), AND WHAT IS WINE ? WINE IS THE WORD IN THE BIBLE. SO MAYBE THAT ACTUALLY MEANS JESUS FED THE PEOPLE WITH THE WORD AND KNOWLEDGE AND MADE THEM FULL OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

FEEDING THE MULTITUDE OF PEOPLE WITH TWO LOAVES AND FIVE FISHES. WHAT IS BREAD AND MEAT ? THE WORD OF GOD ( BIBLICAL LINGO ) ( ANYTIME YOU SEE HONEY, MEAT, WINE, BREAD, MILK IN THE BIBLE IT IS REFERRING TO THE WORD ). SO MAYBE HE FED THE MULTITUDES WITH THE WORDS OF GOD AND HAD ENOUGH LEFT OVER TO FEED MANY MORE PEOPLE BECAUSE THOSE WHO GOT EDIFIED ALSO BECAME A SOURCE OF BREAD AND FISH ?
For once, you are making some sense.

The miracles could be symbolic

emmatok: Well it seems you know noting about history.
I don't need to tell you am from Iperu-Remo have you ever heard of that place before.
I have a lot of documented history about wars and slavery among the Ijebus.

Go learn your history and stop blaming foreigners for you failure.
My failure? lollololol. Where did I tell you that I'm a failure?

Concerning your "documented" history of slavery among the Ijebus, how come you never gave any specifics? And I hope you now that African history bfore foriegners is oral and not "documented" as you put it.

I am not yoruba by the way and Iknow my history.

The fact remains that Christians and Muslims came to this country with slavery. These religions did not come with peace. They are not much better than pagan religions. Even worse when you realise that Christians and muslims have killed far more than any pagan religion.

Even look at today. Pastors defrauding church members with tithe scams, Children being beaten and killed because iof withcraft accusations, roads blocked because of useless spiritual camps and retreats. Christians dying because their pastors told them that they can be healed through miracles rather than medicine.

You can claim that the christians brought schools but you will only sound like a mental slave. The christians were in Nigeria since 16th century, yet the first schools were in the 19th centurey after the abolitiopn of lsave trade. Apparently schools were too good for the "black monkey slaves"

emmatok: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_slave_trade#Slavery_within_Africa

Slavery in African cultures was generally more like indentured servitude, although in certain parts of sub-Saharan Africa, slaves were used for human sacrifices in annual rituals, such as thoserituals practiced bythe denizens of Dahomey
Please, you rely on that Wikipedia quote to learn about Yoruba history? That yoruba people had slaves which they sacrificed? lolololol. Or were they sacrificing enemies from other tribes or tribal wars? Is Dahomey in Naija?

Lmao. Are you a yoruba person? If not, go and ask Yoruba peeps to educate you.

As for the main point why are you trying to reduce the chattel slavery of yur religion. Did yorubas ship(like the christian Europeans did to Africans) each other like sardines so close that they shyt on each other? Did they chain and whip them to work on farms?

Your christian religion is a slave religion
Christianity EtcRe: Ancestral Religion Versus Imported Religions by MacDaddy01: 8:39am On Sep 21, 2012
emmatok: Great, that is the point I have been making .
Slavery exists in every society.
But they are so biased, yet thay want us to accept their views.
Depends on your deifnition of slavery. Even so, please explain how there was slavery in the Ijaw, Urhobo or Itsekiri tribe because there was none.

Furthermore, there is stealing in every society. Does that mean christianity should support stealing? If even there was slavery in every society, why did christianity support it in the bible and in the European slavery?

MacDaddy01: Remind me of the Benin Empire slave trade. Was the slave trade not named after the slavery of Europeans? Why are you now remixing it as if the slaves were sold between benin men? Keep lying. The Benin empire slave trade was between tBenin and the Europeans.

Please, show me where slaves were traded as a commodity between west African tribes before the advent of foriegners.

You are also remixing my point. Why would the avergae African man need slaves if he and his many wives with many children worked on their own farms? Prisoners of war were killed in most tribes. So where did slavery come from between Africans? Why do you lie against your ancestors to cover the wickedness of your foreign religion?

As for the Kings buried with their servants (for the benin obas), yes it was a cruel practice. The fact remains that slaves were never sold between africans before the advent of foriegeners. The kings servants could not be considered as slaves because of their lifestyle (they had their own farms/properties etc)
However, they were slaves in death because they were buried in with the kings. Its funny that this is the only fact you could manage to hold on to because those kings servants were not slaves until death.
Hmm, the Pink Unicorn Argument.........

Lol, This is funny you would bring it up here because it is a very weak argument, Unfortunately, I can't handle it now as I'm gonna be very busy today, I'll come back to you on this tomorrow.

but perhaps before then, someone else will put you out of your misery. The problem is will you recognize it when it happens and be noble enough to admit it? or will you just deny and scream insults in your usual manner when you have been proven wrong?
This really irritates me. Why are you people so arrogant and dishonest? Why not state what is wrong with the argument rather than just claim it is wrong?

My dear brother slave na slave whether them live for quarters or not why did he need them if he had wives and children
to do farm work? And they were even castrated to avoid sleeping with obas wive shocked . Did the Oba not get buried with his "SERVANTS"

Slaves never worked in chains but were only used when captured and transported.

Do some homework and get back to me.

capricon: Yes there were wars before the coming of europeans and Arabs. History is filled with them. oyo empire was constantly at war with dahomy and Nupe kindom and constantly tried to expand its territory. same with Ashantis just to mention a few. There were numerous intertribal wars. Slavery was also practised, they were often captured in war and sold or serve kings and deities. There is nothing new under the sun
Liar. There is no record of slavery in West Africa before foriegners. Prisoners of war were beheaded or killed. In my village, it is called efa. In the past, enemy tribes were sacrificed or killed. Slaves were never sold as a commodity.

Farm labour came from the wives and the many children of men in those days. Why would we need slaves? Even the king had servants and the servants had their own living quarters and did not serve in chains where I come from in Niger delta.

Keep lying against you ancestors to protect your foriegn religion

Anony strikes me as a calm guy even though many times, the premises for his arguments are inherently flawed. I think that will be a good discussion...

Is there anyone i would like to meet?

Anyone that can offer a good conversation about his/her faith or lack of it will make a good conversation... From experience, Atheists usually make better discussions than ideological Christians (no disrespect), But you have to have some kind of logical foundation before you start throwing bible verses..... That is why i think anony is better than most even though his arguments are pretty weak.

For the "career islam bashers" (you know yourselves), i will love to dismantle all your arguments but i don't think i would like those conversations. I would rather tell you how incredible Islam is, and how it makes perfect sense than have wholly defensive discussions.

Great to see that people are getting together through this forum...

Safe.

Slavery is purely business it has nothing to do with religion.
Keeping of slave during that period was never a crime.

Even Yaweh in the old testament says that Jews should take slaves from other nations but not among jews. Religion is part of slave trade. Take it or leave it.
