4) Imams/local mosque rectors are not immune to itme #2)
5) victims of the rote learning of the Quran: being able to quote the Quran in Arabic is usually perceived by other Muslims as sign of high learning; but this is almost completely useless for engaging in discussions where you're not working the crowd
6) it must be admitted: even the Quran isn't an easy book to read: the accounts are not arranged chronoligically, and it is frankly usually a boring read
7) er, hmnn . . . some of the practices are downright nasty and difficult to support (niqab, death for any number of minor infractions, mutilations, hatred for a certain pet animal . . . etc etc). At least Christianity has Jesus, who to some extent reformed the Jewish tribal god, Yahweh; Islam has no equivalent of that; this is a big problem . . .
8') and, well, there's that thing with Sunni & Shia muslims; if the questioner knows about it, then it's already too much of a problem . . .
9) many of the Muslims here are lazy; not ready to do the hard work, and not ready to mount a robust defence of their favourite middle eastern religion

Simple rules for banning;

-There should be a 2 strike rule for banning;
First the person is warned (and his offensive comment explained) and the second offence is banning

-Insulting everyone in a religion.
"all muslims are fools"....."all christians are fools"......."all atheists are fools"

-Trolling and Derailing.
A clear definition of a troll (for Nairaland) would be someone that comes to insult and doesnt contribute anything to a thread. An aggressive comment is not trolling as long as it makes a valid point on the topic of the thread. A troll in Maclatunjis definition is someone who says something against islam and is a non-muslim. Please ask Maclatuji how many muslims he has banned for insults on atheists and christians.

Have you noticed that when you debate with christians, they use their bibles and church doctrines to argue? The focus of the argument mainly stays on christianity.

Try this with muslims here on Nairaland, and the muslims will bring up negative things christianity and judaism. This baffles me as an atheist. What kind of logic is this? When pushed to the wall with reasonable arguments, one would rush to say "but christians did it too"


This tactic weakens me and betrays a conscious disingenuity on the part of the NL muslims that do this.

b) Nigeria has secular laws in the south but they are limited because there is no law enforcing the separation of church and state. Government pays for pilgrimages, governors using state money to support their favourite churches etc

ow11: Religion is NOT the only factor that yields to progress. Much of Europe was ruled by the church when breakthroughs were happening in Science and Technology. The fact that many countries in Europe at the time were Religious did not stop the advancement. These countries have moved on and now operate a secular government but the truth is the advancements were done when many of the country folk were fiercely religious and said countries even ruled by religious tenets.

The Catholic church held back science a lot of times. The persecution of science eg Galileo, evolution etc

If the MFM guy believes he can not operate where women wear trousers, then women who do not mind wearing trousers should stay away from his church. I only go further to sya that while the church has the right to enforce their rigid dress codes, they are setting a bad precedent for human rights and freedom in the society. Many members of these churches take such rigid codes to the outside society. My sister's boss wanted her to wear only long skirts. My sister had to go to meet the regional manager to handle her boss.
