Celebrities / Re: "2017 Was The Toughest Year In My Entire Life" - Toolz Says In New Photos by macherie1: 5:18am On Jan 01, 2018
Me too. I can relate to what she's saying. 2017 gave me hard knocks but God showed up for me. I suffere a strange illness that almost drove me to suicide. Medical experts had no idea what to do. I went from hospitals to hospitals. After months of severe illness and despair, God showed up. God never fails. I still can't believe I'm here today. Indeed there are times when life life heaps much more than we can bear on us and we ask ourselves where is God in all these? The truth is, the sun will always shine again for those who put their trust in Jesus. 2018 indeed will be a better year in Jesus name.Amen
Investment / Investors' And Experts' Opinions On Bitcoin by macherie1: 9:33pm On Dec 30, 2017
Financial and Economic experts as well as top investors have given their opinions and expectation on the current bitcoin frenzy. The reactions are mixed with many expressing skepticism and labeling it a bubble similar to the Tech stock bubble of 1999. Below are the reaction and comments.

Comments against

“Investors are taking a risk buying bitcoin“– Vitor Constancio, Vice President, European Central Bank
In November, Constancio warned against investing in Bitcoin at such high prices. bitcoin prices shot up from $5000 in October, 2017 to $11,000 in November, 2017 and then rose astronomically to a record high of $19,000 before price tumbled to a current low of $12,000. This could be the result of people withdrawing their earnings in the wake of the holidays.

“Bitcoin is a Fraud.” Jamie Dimon, JPMorgan Chase CEO
The Cryptocurrency “is a fraud, It’s not a real thing and eventually it will be closed. ” Dimon said at the delivering Alpha conference presented by CNBC and institutional investors.

“Bitcoin is like Monopoly money” – Jim Cramer, Host of CNBC Mad Money
“Bitcoin is a pure gamble, ” Cramer said. It is kind of like monopoly money. Obviously there’s people who use it.
If you ever say anything bad about it, there’s like this bitcoin mafia that comes after you. But it is an oddity that has nothing to do with us” as investors. “It’s just pure gambling at this point,” Cramer continued. “I mean, if you want to gamble, go to Vegas. Vegas is fabulous.”

“It’s a Pyramid Scheme.” – Howard Marks, Billionaire Investor
Digital currencies are nothing but an unfounded fad perhaps even a pyramid scheme, Marks wrote in an investor letter.
“It’s a Mirage. Stay away from it.” – Warren Buffet, Billionaire Investor.
The billionaire investor whose investing wisdom is widely followed said the idea that cryptocurrencies have some huge intrinsic value is a mirage in his view. Buffet believes the frenzy about bitcoin is driven by FOMO, fear of missing out.

Comments In Favor

“Virtual currencies may give existing currencies and monetary policy a run for their money” – Christine Largarde, IMF chief

“Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are viable financial Instruments.” – Adam White, VP Coinbase Inc
“What we found was that bitcoin was both oil and less volatile than Twitter stock in the year 2016”. He said, “We’re seeing volatility now. That’s not a bad thing. More liquid markets with institutional capital entering the space are ultimately going to decrease that volatility. Thus, make digital currencies like bitcoin are really viable financial instrument for the world.” Adam White stated In a paper he wrote with Chris Burniske, a partner at cryptocurrency focused venture capital firm.

“Bitcoin will hit $300,000 to $400,000 in the coming months. ” – Ronnie Moas, Founder of Standpoint Research
In July 2017, Moas predicted the rise of bitcoin to $5,000. At the time of his prediction, bitcoin was trading at about $2,600.
“The end-game on bitcoin is that it will hit $300,000 to $400,000 in my opinion, and it will be the most valuable currency in the world,” Moas told CNBC’s “The rundown.”
“I don’t know how much gold there is in the ground, but I know how much bitcoin there is, and in two years there will be 300 million people in the world trying to get their hands on a few million bitcoin.” Moas said.
Our View
Based on the history of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, we believe cryptocurrencies have come to stay.
Cryptocurrencies have two important features that can’t be ignored. They can serve as money and are becoming more accepted as means of payment. They also serve as commodities that hold value such as gold. These two features give bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies a huge potential to become very valuable commodities in the near future.
However, due to it’s highly volatile nature, bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are better held as long term assets.

Ate can be pronounced in both ways. The one the poster says is wrong is the UK pronunciation while the other is American English. Nigeria speaks British English which make the UK pronunciation more acceptable. Also, revert means reply in Indian English. Always double check before accepting grammatical corrections
Celebrities / Re: Magistrate’s Absence Stalls Hearing On Kemi Olunloyo, Samuel Walson’s Bail by macherie1: 2:06pm On Mar 24, 2017
Even though Kemi Olunloyo is very controversial in her utterances, to detain her is injustice to human right. This government has no respect for human right and it is a risk to democracy and free speech. This case is not a police business. The erred party should sue for defamation of character which should not lead to the defendant being detained at all.

Which reasonable country in the world operates a cashless policy? Did you bother to compare the pros and cons of a cashless policy? Frustrating seamless transaction will only drive the country deeper into recession. Unlike developed countries where cash transactions are minimal, Nigeria has no system to protect or insure its citizens against electronic financial frauds. The policy makes no sense. If we have a well established electronic banking system, (functioning and adequate ATMs, secured electronic cheque deposit, insured and secured electronic transfers etc) people will use them voluntarily without being coerced.

Politics / Aftermath Of Treasury Single Account by macherie1: 12:47am On Feb 21, 2017
It’s almost two years now since the Treasury Single Account 'TSA' was flagged off. Also, It’s been about two years since the economy of the country began a dive into the pits. According to a report on dailytrust , accountant general of the federation Mr. Ahmed Idris disclosed that about N5.422 trillion has accrued to the TSA account since its implementation. The minister of finance and other members of the country’s economic team continue to tout the news of how much the country has saved in the single treasury account. One thing they never tell us is how the citizens are better of for it. The economy has witnessed a significant downturn since the implementation of the policy. Shouldn’t that signal to a reasonable economic expert that there is a problem with the implementation of the policy and maybe it should be modified? How do you withdraw money from the circulation with no clear plans of reinvesting yet expect the country to be better off for it? TSA was established to curb corruption in the government. However, when the cost of tackling corruption exceeds the cost of a corrupt system should we not review the policy?

Prior to the implementation of TSA, Nigeria’s inflation was a single digit. The country has witnessed an unusual spike in inflation since the implementation and the figure currently stands at 18.72%.

The price of most consumer goods have more than doubled. Contrary to the CBN governor’s opinion that Nigeria’s inflation was caused by too much money in the circulation chasing too few goods which is the “Demand Pull Inflation”, what the country is witnessing is a “cost push inflation.” This is a situation in which increased cost of factors of production, raw materials, machinery, capital leads to rise in cost of output.

Although the significant drop in crude oil prices led to the depreciation of Naira, TSA aggravated the situation by making access to capital more costly with the withdrawal of funds from the Deposit Money Banks (DMB). The government did not earmark any cushioning effect for the sudden withdrawal of funds from DMBs rather, CBN increased interest increasing the cost of borrowing and worsening the situation.

Agreed, the TSA account helps government consolidate transactions and accounts for ease of disbursement and monitoring, however, there must be a clear cut plan of ensuring that surplus is made available to the market for investment purposes.

According to IMF’s strategy on TSA implementation , a strategy should be developed for investing available surplus cash and funding temporary cash shortfalls.

Once a TSA has been established and its target balance has been set, a strategy needs to be developed for investing available surplus cash, and funding temporary cash shortfalls. The strategy should include options for both short-term and longer term investments.31 The management of surplus cash investment and short-term borrowing could be handled either by a specialized unit within the MoF or by a fiscal agency agreement with the central bank

However, Nigeria’s current economic team seem to be oblivious of this part of the implementation process and continue to boast of trillions of Naira that has been saved in the account.

Jobs/Vacancies / 10 Words Never To Include On Your Curriculum Vitae by macherie1: 4:38pm On Feb 16, 2017
If any of the words listed below appear on your curriculum vitae, consider expunging or rephrasing them. Your curriculum vitae says everything about you and determines your chances of meeting with an employer who doesn’t know you in person. Do your best to give it an appeal that can grab the attention of the recruiter long enough to give you a chance.

1.Unemployed

There is no reason whatsoever for this word should appear on your CV. The recruiter can infer your employment status from your employment history.

2.Hardworking or Hard worker

Unnecessary. Expunge it

3.’Ambicious’

Pay attention to your spelling. Misspelled words like this should never appear on your CV

4.Microsoft Office

Listing Microsoft Word proficiency as skill is like listing being able to read and write as a skill. Microsoft office is not a skill. Consider including other professional short courses that you have completed online or go online and take free courses in skills and software that are relevant to your profession.

5. Reference available upon request

The recruiter will ask for a reference without you telling them.

6. Can’t or Won’t

Avoid negative words. Rather emphasize what you can do or will do

7. Unnecessary personal Information

Personal information such as date of birth, family status, personal interest etc. should be avoided on a CV. These information do not determine your qualification for the job.

8. Hobbies

Including your hobbies is distracting and time wasting for the recruiter. Your hobbies do not pertain to your qualification for the job.

9. Result-Oriented

“While many other words are misused or diluted by overuse, these are the weakest and most abused,” says master executive resume writer Barrett-Poindexter.

10. I know SQL, HTML…

You don’t have to know all the skills required for a job to land it. You will be questioned based on the skills you claim to know and your level of proficiency in them. Avoid dishonesty.

How can export thrive in an economy that is perpetually in darkness with underfunded institutions of learning. Nigerians are brilliant people but the government does not make the environment condusive for innovation. That is why a lot of Nigerians are recognized for record breaking achievements abroad.

Mr.Tule should take his advice to the government. Tell them to invest in development of infrastructures and research.Nigeria also needs a good credit system to advance loans to small and medium scale entrepreneurs. Then we will do our part as citizens to contribute to export.
Phones / Re: Emefiele's 3 Minutes Call Tax Is Economically Wrong - Telecom Companies by macherie1: 11:08pm On Nov 26, 2016
If this is the CBN governor's solution to recession, then we are in real deep sh*t. You can never solve recession by making life more difficult for people rather, the government should come up with policies that encourage people to spend. Reduce interest rate, borrow if you must to finance projects so money can be injected into the economy.

Taxing phone calls will only frustrate communication. Communication is key in development and execution of ideas which is the bedrock for growth in an economy. It is completely ridiculous that the CBN governor will make such a suggestion.

If you must raise tax, increase the tax for the high income bracket individuals and companies. Go after them. people like e-money who go to parties with money spraying machine. Increase the tax of the likes of Dangote and Otedola. That is what developed countries do.

As long as Buhari continues to have his quack economic team in office, there is no getting out of this recession anytime soon. We just have to sit it out or demand for a change in government.

Mathew 16:4, A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Jesus then left them and went away.

If the universe is not sign enough that God exist, then you may be thinking somewhere in your mind that you are too wise to believe in God who gave us wisdom in the first place. The only sign you will get if you want all these signs like Jesus said, is the sign of Jonah, and since you are wise I assume you have read about what happened to Jonah.

The government should develop infrastructures and encourage industries to grow.

Dauraking:

I think you're the one talking arrant nonsense.

1. What do you mean by "duo parallel rate at the official market". I know English Language is not your mother tongue. So I forgive you.

2. Of course Naira has been devalued because floating Naira means that the currency worth would be determined by the market. The market has always said that N197/$1 by the government was overvalued. The real value of Naira is what we would see from Monday.

3. There's no diversion. Those appointed by the government would sell dollar at market rate. There's nothing like N199/$1 again.

4. With this policy, you can't round trip or speculation is reduced.

5. Naira is already floated.

In as much as I'm a stern critic of Buhari administration, I applaud this monetary policy. Still I blame the government for waiting for 10 months before it's implement thereby wasting foreign reserves and engendering massive corruption. We should blame the Dullar.d himself. He said that he must be convinced before he would devalue Naira. Who now convinced him to float Naira. Maybe, his London doctors have successfully opened his blocked ears and he heard reasons for the first time.
Who has the foreign reserve helped? When we had excess money in the reserve how did it benefit us?
Business / Re: New Naira Policy: 8 Things That Will Happen In The Next 10 Days by macherie1: 1:33pm On Jun 16, 2016
@ op continue to deceive yourself. You think the supply of dollar will automatically increase just because of CBN's full float policy. Have we increased our exports or do we now manufacture dollar? What has changed? Since the market is now open to all, the demand will increase but supply wont measure up which will lead to increase in the rate. We are waiting.
Business / Re: CBN Floats The Naira, The Implications For You And I by macherie1: 12:54am On Jun 16, 2016
What CBN has just done is shoot themselves in the foot. An economy that is largely dependent on import has no business with a full float exchange rate policy. We are net importers. Devaluation of our currency doesn't help anyone. If we were exporters, devaluation will make our goods more competitive but as importers, we are at the mercy of the banks who will exploit the policy to their own benefit.

Asian Tigers like China who understand their economy had a fixed exhange rate policy for decades and later changed to a managed float to encourage investment. Never free float. Why? As Net exporters, they had to keep their currency undervalued compared to other western nations. Hence their goods became very competitive so much that Americans now import largely from China. Most American companies even have their factories in China.

What should Nigeria do as a Net Importer? Have a managed float exchange rate where the currency is prevented from being fully depreciated against market force to prevent a very sick economy from imminent collapse. Then Invest in infrastructure and develop export. The Asian Tigers broke the jinx of poverty in their countries by developing their export trade. The government should look at the things that Nigerians spend dollars on importing and loan money to Nigerians who can start producing those things here in our country. Invest in research and human capital development.

But first, Buhari should fire every single member of his economic team. There are very weak and lack Ideas. Instead of them to study economies that have gone through this phase and what they did to get out of it, they keep applying trial and error economics, toying with the livelihood of over 200 million people.
Business / Re: CBN Floats The Naira, The Implications For You And I by macherie1: 4:21pm On Jun 15, 2016
And the plot thickens. Why would CBN throw everyone to the interbank market when we know banks are only after the profit? In a country with so many greedy people like Nigeria, competiton rarely puts downward pressure on prices. The implication of this is that the rate of dollar will rise astronomically in the coming weeks since a very high demand has been automatically placed on greedy Nigerian banks. Wether the rate will decrease anytime soon is unknown.
