As a matter of fact bro you shouldn't conclude because such conclusions beclouds the possibilities of what may be or not. There is a lot the universe can teach us so don't make absolute conclusions...

Vastness of the universe suggest billions out of the trillions of planets on it might be habitable and possibly harbour life...

True

I believe what you are trying to point out here is the Goldilocks zone, water and breathable atmosphere..

Well billions of planets actually are on the Goldilocks zone of their respective parent stars.

Water probably is one of the characteristics man has unidentified with rocky terrestrial planets.

Mercury, Venus has polar ice, earth has a lot of water, Mars used to but still has a little, Jupiter's moon Ganymede has, Europa is speculated to contain twice as much waters in the earth's ocean under it's ice surface..

I think the possibility of ancient life forms are quite loud.………
well, am not denying the possibility of alien life but by what is available to us now, I settle for No aliens argument, I just think all the factors responsible for life on earth has to be present with other planets for them to contain life as we know it. Humans after all started out in east Africa before spreading , so why can't sentient beings start from earth? Don't ever think you know nature so well.
It wouldn't surprise me if am wrong tho

Very erroneous assumption . Look at how vast the universe is . I'm a christian and I strongly , very strongly believe that God created life in far way planets

True

Natural selection does not point to evolution

Mention these factors
that my conclusion is false assumptions to u is ur business..ur own assumptions too..this is just an interactive thread

the vastness of the universe got nothing to do with life on mars or any other planet, if the factors necessary for life are absent there can never be life as we know it.

I have no regard for Christianity, so I don't know why you should mention that

oh, actually natural selection does

distance from a major star, adequate amount of essential elements, the planet's magnetic field... just to mention a few
all these factors need to be in perfect place to have what earth has

You know like i told you on whatsapp i have a crush on the greek goddess of love Aphrodite .... Imagine what i could kneeling in between those long flawless legs grin

If i should kneel to a deity then it should be her cheesy

In most times they are just personification of a concept to give it meaning.

what causes humans to fall in love.. Uuhm the God and Goddess of love.

what incites and helps us at war... Uuhm God and Goddess of war.

What causes storms at sea... Uuhm God of the sea uranus.

so most of these are just vague personifications of these concepts..
Ehen! all those tales of God were just personification... its so obvious with Greeks, even justice was personified... I just love the ancient Greeks

lol grin Uranus is not God of sea o

well, I haven't got reason to believe aliens exist. Nature is beautiful and complex, she doesn't need to keep popping sentient beings everywhere

That flowing water existed on Mars and might still exist beneath the surface doesn't mean we have cousins on our neighbor planet. Natural selection has a wide variety of options, that humans are humans and not Chimps despite having common origins is just to buttress my point

even if there's life on mars, probably just bacteria-type organisms, factors that bring forth organisms like Humans or even fishes on earth might not be present on any other planet in the universe

I am not Yoruba, so don't know how the King-ship thing works.

But, the Kingmakers should take into cognizance, the dirty play being employed by a few of those interested in the Stool here. It is times, like this that i tend to believe the Benin Version of who came from whom.

The process of choosing the next Benin King is straight forward, and the Yoruba's should borrow a leaf from them. You don't read or hear about Benin Prince's stabbing themselves in the back in the tabloids, just because they want the PIE called Oba-ship.

At the end of the day.

It is the Traditional Stool that loses all the respects,it should have been accorded.
if the prince is involved in shady business then he cannot be Oba in Yoruba land, doesn't matter if it is revealed by other princes or not

the "straight forward " way used to be employed by the Yoruba...that tradition caused lots of bad blood
and Benin princes stab themselves in back you know and even worse kill each other... take a glance at any work on past Benin obas..call it traditional politics

The south has no leaders, all the political power houses and prominent individuals ie. SW governors and Senators don't give a bleep about anybody... we have complained to them, we have called the press to make the situation known yet no response from those who are supposed to help.

Well, English will slowly devour until most if not all indengious languages are dead. I'd rather have it be one of our hundreds of languages doing the work, but it might very well be too late now. I find English a bland and very boring language. It has borrowed excessively and lost most grammatical peculiarities. A lot of people think it's the language of science, but really most of the scientific terms are French or Latin of origin. It doesn't posess the same creative ability to create words (which luckily Yoruba does) as those two other languages.

Came across this hymn: Onisegun nla wa nihin. Meaning seems to be retained here, not sure how old the hymn is as it seems to be a translation. Elero makes sense, so it's really a mystery why it's not widely used. I suppose mekaniki and enijinia is of preference for the lingustic ignorant. People these days don't even understand simple Yoruba coined words. They seem to think more like English where syllables are mostly meaningless and you only consider the word as a whole.
That's so true. .english lacks the ability to create words, it's like a glorified pidgin language

One can notice how certain yoruba words are so complex that most of us these days cannot translate it into English. .some words are compounded from long sentences that it's difficult to give their meanings so people just abandon them

Hello, indeed!

Most of these words are sourced from Beginner's Yoruba by Kayode J. Fakinlede and are very recent, indeed. There are, however, several inaccuracies in many of the translations. I'm not at the level of proficiency where can I point them all out, sadly.

Isegun definitely is science related and be used as a prefix in that regard. Eko is also very interesting and could possibly create many new words with little effort. It would seem ero has replaced ogun and now means tool/device and machine.

Very interesting, nonetheless and we should attempt to reintroduce these words you mention. Most technological words today are coined from several words from a source language, so one could theoretically break them down and make a translation. However, one language's logic doesn't necesarrily transfer to another.

The problem is that many of these words sound somewhat artifical due to them essentially being created with intent and is not the cause of actual development. The problem becomes more apparent when you attempt to explain these concepts. The words are just not there for the average speaker.

The main concern is that Yoruba and our other languages are not used actively for conversing and developing science. It does not bode well when the language stops being developed. I think the only way to turn the tide is for Nigeria to abolish English. I am unsure if that will ever happen though.

Meanwhile, we must do what we can and this thread is a start.
nah. Nigeria without English would be a disaster, how do we communicate?

but we can still maintain the old logic behind Yoruba words
take for instance - Onisegun and Elero being scientist and engineer respectively, today nobody uses the words like that

I don't distort any history, i brought my own word and my idea about it, I have not touched any of your cardinal point or idea emanating from your idea, if I do, refute it, not with argument, but with 'valid points' to point out what the true history should be, and I or others would learn the truth.

If not the entire Yoruba nation, tell me where the entire Yoruba nation come from, when you can do this, I would be clear about your arguments. For now I only know what you are arguing against, which is my context, but your own historical content is immaterial.

Sorry Yoruba history is a family history: Omo Oduduwa. He was said to have come from "Orun" and that's where my family also originated from, as I am "omo oniporogun l'ode Orun". You do not have any idea where Oduduwa came from, so that means Oduduwa was an immigrant from somewhere.

I am learning my history from various pointers from diverse but contradictory sources (written and oral) that harmonizes to establish the same point, as avail me in historical precepts, bible, ifa, oriki, place names etc, so that if contradicting sources can agree on a point, there are great possibility of that being factual:

Am I delusional to handle such complex data and deduce historical fact from it?
u seem not to have anything better to do so you go back to a post you have already replied... well, lemme indulge you

I don't need to know the origins of everybody's family quarters as I don't expect everyone to know the origin of mine. as you have said your family is descended from a mesopotamian man named "Eber" in the bible...I can't argue with that.. so I didn't.. you are free to claim where ever for your family...
my family is of Yoruba land not Israel or Mesopotamia and have remained in Yoruba land only moving within Okun and Ekiti, we are IFA priests and travellers before settling in Ido to own farms... its in our oriki....that's enough gist wink (I don't give family history on faceless forums) I am not your family so that ur claimed family origin doesn't concern me what's more I won't argue that. you are free to make up things and claim stuff for your family ... whether you are wrong and only being delusional is really your business, its only members of your family that can shut u up.
But what you must never do is to be stupid and arrogant enough to claim for other people what they have never claimed for themselves, resolve your family history and don't expect everyone to have ur history(of coming from the middle east ) as I don't expect everyone to have my history ... my origins is unique to me and my family even as I am Yoruba..not even everyone in our quarter share the same origin with me...should I force my perceived origins on them too?
you have established that you are not of Yoruba land.. it's simple, you are an immigrant in west Africa and we can help you if you want to return to your fatherland (the middle East) but please leave Yoruba people out of your family history.. Again Your family history is not Yoruba history

if you want an honest answer (which I'm always sure to give)...it is only a completely deluded mind that will use a book written by Jews and complied by Romans to point out a west African's history.... I've told you before to seek help you thought I like insults

Ado is made up of different quarters known as Ido, meaning camp or station, I am from isolo, but our family are the custodians of 'ileba temple' at Ileba quarters at Ado Odo. The temple handlers are known as 'owun olowonrin'. So we are praised as

'omo Eleba Ori, omo ori Onoja Osan.' I would like you to take this oriki to oyo to find my kindred for me. Google wont help. If you listen to one of Osupa song, he praised his late dad as omo Ola-Ileba.

Another one from my mum side is this particular ancestral praise, from Ajase (the people settle at Idojigan, Ado Odo from port novo, they were of Agoro family):

mo gbo ayato, omo oyinbo aise.

omo afija sinu pete erin, omo afebi sinu konje.

I know things do change in meaning with you when I interprete them in Yoruba, you can help me to the interpretations.

You might care to note i am attached to root words and not pagan vs christian religious fervour. You are a pagan fanatic if you dont know.

Since you know its Ever I am refering to as Eber, otan.
perfect, your own family quarters is Ileba(Ile Eber)... there are many quarters named so and a small village in Oyo and I'm very sure they don't share the "Eber" idea

you can identify your "ileba" quarters to Eber, a mesopotamian man whose descendants are the Hebrews but don't distort the history of over 40million people. you can trace ur family origins to Hebrews (which of course is just delusional) but people will at least respect that its ur family not the entire Yoruba nation.
everyone has his family oriki and quarters and can choose to read any meaning to it even if he claims Chinese origin but your family history is not Yoruba history. that will only mean that you are an immigrant here in Yoruba land

this has nothing to do with my religion or lack of it. it is you that brings your religion in to your history... learning ur history through a foreign religion not me

I agree with you. But also, racial activism and complexes, religious fanatism, colonial mentality and its complex offshoots and an on-going need for self-determination can affect true search for origins or historical paths of the founding fathers.

I am at the stage of 'what to believe', I have conquered the dilema of 'who to believe', hence I seem not to care who hold the reins. I go with the tenets of my ancestral traditions on historical issues.
You go with the tenets of tradition on historical issues? Lemme bring u back to your previous post
You are right, the founding fathers of a civilization that spring forth Yoruba and her neighbours were hebrew, like I am from Ileba myself, (Il'Eba, land of Eber)
1. Ileba is in Oyo, Nigeria ... its not in isreal or anywhere in the middle east
2. Eber was not hebrew....an hebrew ancestor yes but "Hebrew" as a people didn't exist until Abraham over 5 generations later.
3. Eber is pronounced " Ever " in Hebrew.

There are people who know the bible and middle east here as well as Yorubaland
Try to get your claims to be consistent with already established fact

Btw aren't you the one who always says he's from Ado Odo? Ado Odo is not Ileba

Thanks for your objective statements. Yea, Igbos do face religious attacks and crisis in the North but many are still willing enough to go to the North in search of business opportunities. Yorubas are almost absent in the east in almost all spheres of life - trade, education, NYSC etc.

In trade there are very few Yoruba traders trading in the east. The few ones willing to travel to the east have made the east their home, and are excelling in their trade. Competition is very stiff in the east and many Igbos find themselves migrating out to other zones where competition is much less than it is back home.

Asides trade, let us consider education. How many Yoruba would you find studying in the east? You can count the number of Yorubas who are studying in the east. It is not a matter of not enough schools in the east. There are tons of schools in the east - universities, colleges of education and polytechnics. A cursory look at the admission list of schools in the east reveals mostly easterners and Niger Deltans and very few Yorubas.

During my 3rd year in the University, there was this Yoruba guy who lived in the same hostel as me. That was his final year as he was graduating. One evening we met ourselves at a popular indomie eating joint close to the area called 'beach' in Nsukka. As we were eating we got talking. I asked him about his decision to come to the east and how it happened. He revealed to me that when he put UNN as first choice because he wanted to come to UNN to study, his parents yelled at him for deciding to go to the east because 'they eat human flesh there and they will kill you and eat you when you get there.' They warned him to change his option to a university in the SW. He refused and took his JAMB exam. Luckily for him, he got admission into UNN and moved to Nsukka to start his education. According to him, he had deep-seated beliefs too about the Igbos before he left the SW and that living in the east had taught him that the Igbos were human beings after all. He said lots of Yorubas, like his parents, carry a lot of false impressions about the Igbos and that he was grateful he came to the east which taught him a lot about the Igbos. He also mentioned that he loved the city of Enugu a lot for its serenity and beauty and wondered why it wasn't as populated as Lagos, which he described as rowdy and noisy.

When it comes to NYSC, lots of Yoruba corpers posted to the east redeploy back to the west after camping. I have met more Yoruba corpers who redeployed back to the west than those who remained in the east to complete their service. A Yoruba corper posted to Port-Harcourt revealed her own story when she received her posting letter that she had been posted to PH (which she considered as 'east' or Igboland anyway), her parents were very critical of her going to the east for service and planned for her that they would have her redeploy back to the west after camping because the east was too dangerous for her to live there. After 3 weeks in camp, this corper called her parents and insisted that she was going to complete her service in PH and that she liked the place. Her parents tried to discourage her but she insisted.

The only area you can find Yorubas in significant numbers in the east is in civil service, which was not out of their volition but because they were posted to the east.

The crux of the matter is Yorubas bear a lot of false deep-seated impressions about the Igbos or Igboland in general that they are hardly ever willing to consider living there. To think of the fact that there are other ethnic groups such as the Hausas, Ibibios, Binis/Esan etc. living in Igboland while there are hardly any Yorubas reveals the thought processes of the Yorubas regarding Igbos in general.
All these stories that cannot be verified are irrelevant on nairaland

Btw it is very easy to get posted out to a different location in the civil service...once you know someone in head of service

You barely mentioned a few places with 'thriving' yoruba populations. However, Igbos are scattered all over Nigeria. There are THRIVING Igbo populations in countless places in Nigeria. Their populations in non-igbo states come second to the population of the natives. In those areas you have mentioned as having 'thriving' yoruba populations, i'm sure Igbos in those areas outnumber the yorubas, if not thrice their population. Not only in Nigeria will you find Igbos, but all over Africa, Europe, Asia etc. This is only a tip of the iceberg that indicates the independent mindedness of Igbos as a whole.

And when you said Igbos love to travel because it is just the way they are, yes that's true. That is the independent spirit I was referring to earlier which Yorubas have but not to the level of the easterners. It is a driving force within Igbos that make them want to travel out to other regions in search of business opportunities.
I see. Lemme see the result of the survey you took in numbers to conclude that igbos outnumbered the yoruba in places like Kano, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo. And the result of the survey you took to conclude that Igbo population is second to the natives everywhere in nigeria

Let's speak facts here not assumptions

And when did igbos start leaving igboland? Yorubas have had connection with many west African states building communities for centuries before igbos knew those places existed and suddenly traveling out of the south east is just how the Igbos are? Why not ask yourself why?
