9jacrip: What is esoteric about the tradition is the spiritual aspect of it, history is never shrouded in secrecy if you ask.
Nigerian historians have become lazy and redundant, westernization has made the younger generation lose interest in their history and the circle goes on.
A friend of mine was going to write a dissertation on Ifa in UI History department but was shot down. Infact that supervisor started hustling him with some christianity bullsh. What about the theorical study of the spiritual aspects. .nd not the deep things themselves If Isese people come together to teach the traditions in an organized institution everyone will gain A good example is the Ifa heritage institution in Oyo, something big and of more seriousness should be done And it's true. ..people parading as historians have displayed so much laziness. .. To be honest Isese adherents are too silent, we have not really come together to organize the system...that's why there's so much negligence by the government |

sukkot: this is rubbish. useless archaic tradition. only tradition and culture you need is YAH Even the culture and traditions of yah are archaic (and certainly useless to Africa. ..we've seen that for many centuries already) Yet Israel and Jewish communities outside israel (ie. In Ethiopia) guides their archaic traditions jealousy Africans should do likewise in regards to African culture and traditions, we should encourage our knowledge regardless how archaic it is. ..it cannot be more useless than the archaic traditions of others that we currently operate on Look at Nigeria for instance, importing everything and discouraging anything produced and distributed locally. ..making other nations richer at its own expense |

neocortex: @9jacrip any authoritative text on Obatala ? If there is none, I think it is time one is compiled as oral tradition can't keep all the knowledge passed down from generations.
This knowledge will eventually be lost if no attempt is made to preserve them. You are right here, I think it's high time we stop restrictions on uninitiates and reform the system into institutions Back in the days initiation was like enrolling in a college |

Hot drink came from foreign land so i wonder what could be why they use it. Why it has special significance. juman: @ macof
I see in some yoruba movies that they use hot drinks when doing yoruba sacrifices or things like that, what is the connection between those sacrifice and hot drinks? There's a drink Oguro made from special trees and heated. . aalthough am not sure I've ever tasted the substance at all...I believe it's like hot gin so I guess in absence of the real deal they settlesettle for foreign gin My uncle serves people with it too Notice the similarity with the name "ogogoro" of pidgin (originally from urhobo language) |

9jacrip: Yes. Ifon was Obatala's first son. He has a compound which his offsprings occupy till today.
Ifon left Ife for Ifon in Osun and people from there moved to found another Ifon in Ondo.
The Olufon plays a major role in Odun Obatala and also during Ifon festival.
Olufon is regarded as Ifon incarnate and the kings of both Ifon towns look to him for whatever borders on Ifon or Obatala.
I'll look for the picture of the present Olufon and share. Wait! So Olufon resides in Ife? How then do we explain the connection btw the Olufon in Ife and the Olufon of Ifon-Orolu? Yes both are descended from obatala but who fathered who between the two |

3. I am not sure where this land covers presently. I could try asking question about this.

OrlandoOwoh: You are as confused as the person you are trying to defend. Do king makers choose one person to be Ooni or several people from the ruling houses, among whom the Governor picks from? Apply common logic in your arguement. Yes they choose one person. The head of the ruling houses selected their best candidates and the kingmakers elect only one of them.. After this process. .the governor Appoints the "One" person officially. ..if the government rejects the process(not the result). .the process can be repeated...and mostly be the same result (like in the case of Oba Adeyemi) It's no shame not knowing everything. .just quietly leave this arguement |

And he brought out the people that were in the city and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes... 1 chronicles 21:14 So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. Numbers 25:3-4 : And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel. And the LORD said unto Moses, 'Take all the heads of the people and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel Judges 8:7 : And Gideon said, Therefore when the Lord hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers This ur foreign god best describes "plain wickedness" - your own words [/b] |
