feldido: I'm not saying one shouldn't promote/present his culture, but even in every culture there are attires for different functions, don't tell me those guys don't have modest cultural clothens/attires that covers their bodies? if they dont like covering their body, should they pretend and act like westerners or you(maybe where you are from they cover up) when they are supposed to be representing their country(with its culture)? please learn to respect people's culture |

9jacrip: Maybe so, but in recent times tales such as the one the person put up have been circulating strongly. Reason I'm saying this is that, apart from its steady rise in this forum, certain folks in the academia have also taken it upon themselves to redraw Yoruba history and how united we were - I have experienced several classes with a Hausa lecturer who would present the Northern elements as united but the Yoruba as fractured at every given opportunity; I always cringe in horror when he rolled out this content in his Ethnic studies lecture. thats very true, Why do people see the North more united than Yoruba? people usually come up with different schemes to suggest the disunited among us but nithing of such is discussed about the North? this problem exists among the Igbos at a big scale |

I think his case is just identity crisis and unwillingness to see what 21st Century Yoruba is - a united ethnicity |

When European footballers like Messi, Ronaldo.... and scientists address the press, they do so in their mother tongues. But if a Nigerian tries to do that, he will be considered an illiterate by some Africans, as if the English Language is superior to all other languages. We should values our culture and traditions, it's who we are! Its a pity indeed. I weep for africa |

If you're sure your stand on the issue is reasonable, then I'd advise you to walk the talk: don your traditional attire(buba and sokoto and the likes) while attending an interview or any business meetings. On a more serious note. There are always valid reasons for one not to eat an animal. I just had a conversation with a friend of mine who finds it disgusting for anyone to eat a goat, but she has no problem eating a cow. She grew up eating beef and chicken and finds goat meat repulsive. Then comes a vegan who finds us disgusting for eating any living animal. Because they have feelings too.. I don chop am but na just testing, I don't like it and I believe it's cause of my sentiments towards pigs Like now I fit fight anybody wey I see dey chop dog meat |

You have nothing to say on technology. Possibly, you are going to use the Zulu spear, shield made from leopard skin and mode of dressing to define technology. I can sense that from afar. This is about former gathering. You can talk about how beautiful your culture is in a cultural events and museum not in a gathering like that one. Family › Re: Are Men Naturally Polygamous? by macof(m): 5:52pm On Jul 08, 2015 |
FrancisTony: There are many differences. Solomon practised Jewish law in the old testament and he still married his wives legally unlike a married man who has a wife and still committing an adultery with a side chic or whatever - that's fornication not polygamy....
Christ said he didn't come to destroy the law but amend it meaning that Jewish law isn't pious as it's supposed to be. You can see that in the beginning, God made a helper for Adam which is Eve and not many helpers if he believed men are polygamous. Take a cue from Genesis, ALL the men who were fore-runner married only one wives not until some..... So, Christ was sent to amend laws. Jews had many nasty traditions like worshipping the goddess ashtoreth, stoning an adulterous woman, hypocrisy et al Jesus came to amend? Or you mean your de fact master Paul? Cus jesus said clearly he had no intention of changing the Jewish laws. ..dem no even born am to try such an ordinary construction worker |

KingSango: I know what Sango stones are and the awesome power within them. I do know what you are talking about but I think you don't know what you are talking about. Africans over spiritualize their faith means that they expect the Orishas, spirits and demons to be responsible for everything that happens in the physical world. Humans are given life to experience it, it wouldn't be an experience if the spirits did everything for us. We have to have choice and struggle to improve ourselves. The spirits are here to help us or hinder us in our choices but the choices are ours to make. We must build Africa and we can't do it stuck in the clouds. We have to battle the evil men while Orishas battle the evil spirits. Its that simple. Good you know them, so where is this talk about Sango's skills being a myth coming from? See why I said you don't understand what am talking about, The physical world is connected to the spiritual and only separated by a thin line The Spirits most move for anything in the physical to take effect Though it doesn't mean everything we do should be "mysticised" . Truth is Spirits are always involved |
Culture › Re: Sango Olukoso by macof(op): 5:14pm On Jul 06, 2015 |
KingSango: Not everything problem is based on spiritual issues. Like you can pray for the Orisha to bless you but nothing will happen if you don't get up and work at your goals. Also you if you don't keep good hygiene you will get sick, this has nothing do with spirit. Like if you go into the bush and get bite by a snake that's not an enemy cursing you. All I'm saying is that somethings lie in the spirit realm and have spiritual roots and others lie in the physical and have physical world roots. That's all. And overspiritualizing Sango does a disservice to his historical image as a great king who made real world strives for betterment of his character and his people. That's it. you won't understand what I am talking about. I didn't over spiritualise Sango, Edun ara is a physical charm |
