9jacrip: A deity, she has a compound in Ife where her descendants keep her alive.
No, she was never and is not yemoja.
Yeemoo *clears throat* was an Aje (mo juba o!- I hate calling out that name, I rever it).
Was Yemoja banished from Ife along with Obatala? Was she an Aje who initiated Obatala into the order of Aje?
Considering the spiritual is confusing to the regular person. Separate Yoruba history from Yoruba cosmology, it will help everyone.
Yemoja was not Ife na. Oyo or Ijebu
I was trying to explain that some people claiming a connection between Obatala and Yemoja(I know of the "Father and daughter" claim) might be speaking from Yoruba cosmology and not History
Ilaje44: What is ayilala? What Language did you just spoil?
The Ilaje deity is called AIYELALA. That was the last word of a wronged woman who after she was wrongly accused and executed became a deity. Aiye = World, lala = big. Literally, it means the world is big. However, philosophically and in the context of usage, it means humans are unfathomably cruel.
Gatiano. Could you quit bringing Ifa into ur program?(I don't know what else to call it without sounding aggressive) Those who have years of experience with odu Ifa haven't made something known who are you to know them? You can concentrate on ur nation of islam but Ifa cannot be used by drunks like yourself so please stop all this Ifa says this and that. ..all which Ifa never said This whole thread is just filled with jargon that I was so irritated
even the bible says they came from Mesopotamia, and in their culture we find links to Mesopotamia Even the word "Hebrew" means "from the other side"ie from Mesopotamia
Africans are so disgusting with the gross historical misinformation
buygala: Saudi Arabia shares a border with Egypt, but Israel doesn't have any border with any African country .... So there isn't any direct connection between Israel and any African country
Lol am very sure israel shares boarders with egypt You can check any map to confirm
Is Yemoo held as a deity or just an historical character? If she is considered a diety in Ife, I would be inclined to suggest that Yemoja to Ife is Yemoo
I have come across some works on Isese describing Yemoja as daughter of Obatala. ..in the Carribeans she is his wife You know it's not always based on historical facts. ..the mythical/spiritual parts should be considered
buygala: Islam originated from the middle east of which Egypt is part of... And Egypt is also part of Africa
please bear in mind that the thread is concerned with regions/ continents not countries .... So if Islam originated from the Middle East of which Egypt is part of, and the first major practice of Islam was recorded in North Africa, then Islam can be said to also originate from Africa
I blame the messed up Educational system in Nigeria for ur misinformation
Please try looking into the history of egypt and the people called arabs, you would find out that egypt was only recently invaded by arabs Yet egypt is not middle east, part of the Arab world yes but not middle-east
chiedu7: Guys dont bother with African gods that the God of the bible judged?
The God of the bible disgraced the African gods, now if these gods can't save themselves how can they save you?
Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.
Sorry guys African gods are useless the only living God is the God of the bible.
PS allah is not the God of the bible , if allah were God it will tell moslems to stop killing Jews & Christians.
Surah 5:51 O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them.
You are stupid indeed. The same egypt who developed a civilization ur dumb Jehova couldn't help the jews achieve

Mr I don't know where you get your info from but ancient Egypt was never arab They were mostly black africans like Cushites of Ethiopia
Adebayo has had a hard time lately, if islam gives him a little rest of mind it's ok But the greatest rest of mind lays with the ways of the ancestors - Isese
kevoh: Battle between Thor and Sango! Gonna be Epic to know the real Thunder God.
@OP
That description of Sango looks like something you will get from the Carribeans and the South-Americans. I'm pretty sure the African yoruba version will have a slightly different Sango story. Let me call someone to lend credence to my line of thought.
CC: FOLYKAZE
Yes that's a Carribean description of Obatala, Yemoja and Sango. Yoruba version is slightly different
Zoharariel: I know u're an atheist but I tell you - everything in that 1st link, written by Dr. Malachi York - who was framed and thrown into prison by the American Government is nothing but the truth.
I just knew it, I've come across this too. don't be gullible please, Igbagbọ is a pure yoruba word meaning "belief" Belief in every context of the word, it doesn't mean Christianity
absoluteSuccess: Alright brov, i'm about to yield, I'm not claiming to know more but I only see they mixed it up somewhere and that's a ruse. But before then I want you to tell me how Sango died first, according to the knowledge about Sango that had come to us as Yoruba. As to Okoya, the Yoruba use this often in people's name: Orekoya, Olukoya, Adekoya, Ogunkoya, Onakoya, etc. Infact, did you notice San(go) in AgbeSan?
I don't think there's any mix up at all, Yoruba ancestors are very intelligent and tho they mix Spirituality with History , it's not so difficult to identify the history in what the yoruba say You only read too much into Sango's braids and wrapper. .. All Sango devotees braid their hair but not the male Osun devotees...goes to tell you a lot
Adekoya to me is Ade ko Iya, crown rejects suffering...apply same to the rest
Agbesan , the 'San' there is different from 'Shan' of Sango
absoluteSuccess: My macof, my proposal is this: some of the words coming from the ancient Yoruba are ayinike, meaning 'archytype when chipped'; then there is ayinipada, archytype as feedback. Ayi is a word in circulation, some storytellers picked such words and interpret it and fashion stories that perfectly rhyme with the ayinike from it. Such stories are aroba or ayinipada, not ayinike. I want us to leave ayinipada alone and examine ayinike. That's the only time we will see sense in my nonsense. I want to say the word okoya ('avenger') is what our forebears miscontrue as okoya 'husband of oya'. The Yoruba women usually flatter themselves saying 'nigbati mo siwa ni Sango Ode, kinto di Oya ile' 'when I was still an outgoing Sango, before I became an householder', Oya is part of Sango's credential as 'secessionist' or 'breakaway'. Oya is Ose, that is, 'break-off' or spillover or offender. Now carefully note this: 'won kan nb'Oya ja, Sango loni Seere', meaning 'they were keeping futile malice with Oya, Sango owns the rattle.'
so now you know more about Sango than those that have devoted all their lives to Sango and Oya? Those who say Sango husband of Oya Btw I don't know the word Okoya to mean avenger, I'll rather say Agbesan
It's impossible for a whole cult reformed by Sango to be built on falsehood, and certainly it won't take one who isn't initiated to that cult to identify the falsehood (if any) So you are completely wrong, good you know no yoruba would support your position, especially not the very keepers of Sango
Rivertemz: That man posted some stats on his video that proves its the yorubas that have it. But we are the least to take credit for anything as a Yoruba.
Nigerian first, then Yoruba second. But everyone else puts their tribe first. How come?
That is stupidity, only a silly man would put Nigeria first before his ethnicity How can you even begin to serve Nigeria without hurting your ethnicity? Awolowo was not a pan - Nigerian
Arabambi Oko Oya = Arabambi husband of Oya, not Arabambi same as oya His 3 wives have their home town far away from Oyo-ile or koso, Osun's home is not far from my hometown and we worship her in my lineage, i still remember the oriki, there's absolutely nothing to suggest that Sango is Osun. Oya’s house is still existing till today in Ira, for centuries untouched and kept as a sacred place, you won't find Ose Sango inside
Braiding hair doesn't make a man a woman , the person who made Sango's hair was Oya, his other wives saw this and complained about it - this is a very popular part of the Sango tale
And as 9jacrip already said nobody can say this is the exact way Sango dressed, I have personally seen Baba Mogbas in different styles, what's important and binding is the red colour. In the old days Ooni wears wrapper, and there's only been one female Ooni All over southern Nigeria, men wear wrapper. ..absoluteSuccess aren't you Awori? Don't you know how Awori dress? Wrapper it is.
The former regent of Akure Omoba Adetutu Adesida always wear agbada, I guess that makes her a man?
You need to see Olu-iwa celebrations in Ekiti, the priests tie wrapper, does that make them women?
Infact wrappers are what men wear to keep charm in the knots. .learn your yoruba
