Investment / Re: What's Correct Cscs Number To Use On Public Offer Forms by madeonline(m): 9:14am On Nov 16, 2007
CHN Number is the one to use because it is for depository purpose unlike the account number that is for Automated Teller System/finaicial transactions.

The only challenge is that issuing houses keep confusing public investors by requesting for cscs account numbers on their forms rather than CHN numbers.

It is better to stick to what is right and not to make some experimental assumptions: Use CHN numbers always on IPO/PO forms.

your account must have been opened , pls do send me an email stating your namel and i would get your account details across to you. Most new accounts get trade alert when their accounts are opened so I took it for granted that once I process the account the investors would get their details via text. Perhaps you used a foreign number not supported by trade alert. Some clients in USA, UK, Ireland have been receiving there account details via trade alert.

Apologies for the delay , kindly send me a reminder and I would get your account detailos across to you.

Both are your CSCS numbers.

The alpha numeric is for depository purposes while teh numeric is for Automated Trading System , that is ties your financial transactiosn to your account.

By extension you write the alpha numeric on your Public offer forms and you also use alpha numeric to access your CSCS account online .

All stocks are generally going down now and would continue like that till late Dec. Reason, people are selling stocks so as to fund vacation and travel plans. (Exception is Oceanic though and a few others, oceanic is explicable - it is experiencing her post IPO peak period and cert. would soon be out.)

Don't be discouraged , this is the best time to buy more stocks particularly from the secondary market.

They ahve a good management and have benefited and would continue to benefit from local content policy in Oil and gas industry as a leading player in oil servicing industry.

They have some ongoing juicy contracts and they are fast expanding. A chunck of the fund being raised is proposed for expansion. Their projections as containd in the offer rpospectus are fair.

No broker would sell your shares without your mandate , why the consequences are grave and no broker would want to risk being sanctioned by SEC for such an offence.

If it is done and you report to SEC with evidence that you did not authorize the trade and the broker cannot present your sale mandate is defence the broker is likely tobe suspended and that would cost him much finaicially and in terms of corporate image too.

Investment / Re: How Do I Get A CSCS Number? by madeonline(m): 2:59pm On Oct 17, 2007
Dear eyimofe89 ,

I do hope you have been able to buy stocks from the secondary market now. It is as easy as filling a CSCS account opening form, submitting through your stockbroker (either online or offline), meeting other requirements as may be deem fit by your broker. Funding your account and buying after giving a buy mandate. Please do rememberto ask for your bought or sold contract notes after every transaction. Equally demand for your cscs statement of account and financial statement periodically. Different brokers have different medium for sending out these documents and varrying procedures too.

You talked about delay in account opening , this actually challenges me to assist co-nairalanders with hitchfree account opening. To the best of my ability, almost all those who showed interest got it done within 3 working days. I believe the systems has greatly improved and you do not need to tolerate delays from any broker more than necessary. The CSCS actually take 24hours to oipen the account the extra hours/delay is due to perfecting the account opening papaers!

Dear Enolase ,

I read about your research in which you said one can open a CSCS account by directly approaching CSCS and paying a token.

Please do kindly avail me the details of your research findings via ogunyemi@gmail.com.

I am convince it is practically impossible to obtain CSCS account and house numbers without going through a broker except you are attempting to get a special account. (Special accounts differs from CSCS accounts for normal secondary market trading and I wouldnot be discussing that for now).

I do know CSCS charge 2500 naira for online CSCS account access registration and 2500 naira for trade alert. I am yet to confirm if an investor could approach CSCS directly to get this two forms above sorted out. Please share your findings with me. I look forward to hearing from you.

eyimofe89 (m), r.o.c,

You were trying to register for CSCS online access, you need a CHN number before you could complete that form. Do get in touch with your/a broker to help you
get a CHN number. I am sure you must have done that.

I do hope you found my follow up posts useful. In as much as this is a forum we cannot completely exhaust all the discussions on CSCS details in a forum particularly where you may need to fill some forms and revert to your broker for processing. I do hope you found my postinhgs useful though. I tried to explain further later, if you are still not clear post your questions in here and I would explain further here too. Nothing to hide by giving my email, it was given for those who wanted to send in their forms for processing and so many nairalanders have done so.

Dear Forfavour
Some clients do request for ID, proof of residency and all that. In my firm we do request for signed application form too and photocopy of ID but I just used the formere excel file for nairalanders so as to give them speedy processing. I no longer use the excel format to assist since some people abused the method. However, the soft copy of the form could be emailed to you/any other person interested in a CSCS/stockbroking account. All you need do is fill the form with black ink, sign it and email back to us for porcessing with a scanned international passport data page/and other id card.

Please Dibosa how can one open and idividual investor account with CSCS without going through a broker. Please give me an hint. I strongly feel this is impossible but am willing to learn, afterall this is Nigeria.

Individual investor account, is an account opening at CSCS through with an investor could buy and sell stocks on the floor of the NSE through his/her broker or registered stock dealer. The account has two numbers specific to a combination of names. The CSCS account number and CSCS House number. The former is for tying finanical transactions to clients account through ATs ( Automated Teller System) while the latter is for depository purposes. Links the investor personal details to CSCS, her broker, NSE trading platform, registrars, etc.

Dear kg (f)

Proudly Nigerian

I do agree with you that "nobody should charge you a dime for opening a CSCS account for you at anytime, it is free!". However, most stockbroking houses have what they term minimun account opening balance such as is obtainable when you want to open some forms of accounts in banks too. It ranges from 50,000 naira to 5 million naira depending on the stockbroking houses and you either pay in form of cash/cehque deposit for shares or monetary value of share certificates deposited for verification.

"Clearing House Number only applies to broking firms. As an individual investor, you should leave it blank once you encounter it on your forms."

Please the above instruction is incorrect. If you do this on your CSCS online access form you may as well have just dashed CSCS free money because it would be very difficult to process your form. Broking firms fill similar forms and apply as corporate organizations with a different fee regime.

Dear Contila,

You could use your foreign address if you are not doing much of public offers or primary market purchases, seems registrars do not post certificates to freign destinations. I am not sure of my information though. Anyone working in a Registration firm/Issuing house could confirm or disprove my biews.

However the good news is that Trade Alert (CSCS sms service) is available even to foerign numbers and most of my clients abroad having been receiving transaction sms.

What is Trade Alert?
The NSE/CSCS introduced an investor Protection scheme known as the Trade Alert which involves the installation of a software to rear-end of the mainframe of the computer system of the CSCS, such that whenever there is a transaction on the account of a subscriber at the CSCS, an SMS massage is triggered into the GSM handset of the investor, detailing sales or purchases made and specifying volume and price.
In the event that the investor did not authorize the transaction, he can summarily abort the process by placing a call to CSCS/NSE.

What is this about?

Either you or your recipient friend must get in touch with a broker. Get CSCS account opened for the two parties. Lodge the Certificate in your account and use a letter of authority (from you to the broker) to get the stock transfered to your friend's account.

Alternatively, get in touch with companies that have fund trustee section and they manage the process on your behalf. I can however assure you that the process is not as cumbersome as you think. You could get in touch with me if you need some expertise assistance.

Start a computer business!

Depending on your university/tertiary institution.

If there is constant power and systems are allowed in hostels.

Then meet your classmates and particularly thsoe who have strong believe in you and could give you jobs without asking how you are going to get it done.

Look for an existing computer service center and attempt to rent a system (perhaps your former boss's neighbours). Since you are an operator you must be fast at typing. Get the work done and print for far less depending on your bargaining power.

Deliver such work and expand your client base.

Continue with this trend until you could make your 4k up to 10k then go to compuer village in lagos and get a rickety comp assembled. Even if it is pentium two. It would serve your purpose.

I have written the above out of exeperience. I never owned a printer while in school but I lived on typing jobs. I had a rcikety pentium one and the will to survive with God being on my side too!

Best of luck!

Dating And Meet-up Zone / Who Should Pay For Dates? by madeonline(m): 8:18pm On Aug 29, 2007
Who Should Pay For Dinner Dates?

Who Should Pay For Dinner Dates? The Man Or The Woman?

There is this debate that we all like to avoid, but it stares us in the eye at almost every outing – especially if one is (un)lucky enough to be dating a richer partner. The question “Who should pay for dinner dates?’ is a familiar evil that has broken several relationships and threatens many marriages. How do we view it as individuals, couples or groups?

In my opinion, the man should pay for dinner dates, not as a rule but as a sign of living up to ones responsibility in the context of cultural and sociological perspectives of human living in this part of the world. The African man has a measure of pride attached to making his lady comfortable, toiling for her, making her happy, protecting her and doing all sorts that increases her level of comfort from building of traditional huts for her in time past to opening the car door for the lady in modern times.

Moreover, it is almost generally accepted worldwide (except in the West where honour has been thrown to the dust bins!) that wooing the opposite sex is the man's responsibilities and dinner dates are preludes to an established relationship and necessary impetus to sustain the excitement in any existing relationship. The man should seize the opportunity of a dinner date to appreciate his partner or girl friend, he should endeavour within the limits of his purse, to thrill his partner at every dinner date. He should allow the lady to pick her choice on the eatery menu. If they have already established good rapport he could let her know the limits of his purse such that the cost of such dinner dates does not unnecessarily affect other bills.

However, the act of buying so much for a lady at any dinner date at the expense of ones budget for other issues and items like family upkeep, school fees, telephone bills and others is not ideal. It is a measure of financial immaturity and a display of misplaced priority. Moreover, some men are fond of buying stuffs they haven’t tasted in a life time and cannot afford to take at dinner dates just to impress a newly found love (she eats while the mope at her, trying to curtail their displeasure at not being able to afford the delight in duplicates); this is mere deceit.

It is also not always compulsory that a dinner that should cost a fortune especially in the light of weak national economy. With mutual understanding among couples, a dinner date could often times be as cheap as convenient for the financial standard of both the man and the lady, without necessarily diminishing the quality of the fun achievable. This essential state of understanding, which is very compulsory for partners who have envisaged, marrying one another, could put to rest the argument as to whether it is a man or a woman that is to pay for any dinner date.

Another important factor, especially for already married couples, is the allocation of social responsibilities based on mutual understanding or marriage contract. Often, it is the responsibility of the man to stock the house with foodstuffs while the lady does the cooking; however in rare case the lady might have accepted to cater for the kitchen independently while the man’s pay packet is used for capital projects like building houses. In such homes, it is common to see the lady paying for dinner dates – often she suggests it especially if she is not prepared to do kitchen chores at that moment.

Finally, there is no crime in a lady paying for dinner dates. It is however criminal for a man to expect a lady to pay for dinner dates. Although, from experience, one must have observed that most disciplined ladies do not allow a man to pay their bills on the first date. Rarely, a lady may also decide to threat his man to a dinner date, men do not need to feel too pompous to accept this offer, just reciprocate it in hundred folds shortly afterwards!

HAPPINESS AND JOY

There are feelings
That aren’t like seedlings
In a peaceful mind
But, trunk as tall as pine,
Happiness and joy they are.

A search for happiness
Like a toy for joy,
The more wearied you are
The more the search,
‘Cause they are a must to have.

A happy woman abides
In a joyful man’s home
And there there is love
In as many rooms
To keep off all doom.

Happiness and joy,
Not only synonyms
But escorts and friends too.
You ask for one, you receive the two.
‘Cause the same work they do.

Investment / Re: Effect Of Naira Redomination On Stock Market Investments? by madeonline(m): 9:21pm On Aug 15, 2007
Effect Of Naira Redomination On Stock Market Investments?
There would be no negative effect.

There would be no confusion.

The nation would be better for it.

Explanation:
What is being done is redenomination meaning just move the previous value by two decimal places to the left. Meaning if one used to earns 80000.00 naira up till 31 2008, his salary by next month Sept 2008 would be 800 naira.

Old notes wouldbe phased out with the redenominations and 20 new naira note (with strength as present day 2000 naira would emerge) will to-be 5kwould have the same purchasing power as today's five naira.

With massive media campaign, a norm when new naira note is to be the transition would be smooth without any confusion.

By extesnsion, a televsion that used to cost 10000 naira (then it would be old naira) would be equivalent to 100 using new naira notes (ie a bundle of to be/new powerful 20 naira =50pieces). Both old and new notes would be spent concurrently for a given period just as was the case during the last change in naira design.

Finally, the policy would take effect on the cpital market too on 1st sept 2008 and the market value of stocks too as at that day would be devalue by two decimal places to the left across all securities.
That means ABC Bank withmarket price of 50naira as at august 31, would have a mrket price of 50k as at 1 Sept 2001. The listing price of NSE would have been made 1 naira before then (hopefully) all the indices wouldbe rounded off accordingly. That means the new listing price for a new stock to be issue would be 1k.

I do hope I have explained it simply enough. You could post questions on greay areas I would come back to the thread to drop a few more lines!

Lest I forget the nation would be better for it, first the naira would be strongest currency in Africa. Easy conversion rate meaning we would be able to estiomate that a Nigeria earning 50000 per month under old regime would be earning 500 naira/dollars per month under the new regime assuming 1 naira is equivalent to 1 dollar. i guess before then the naira and trhe dollar would be at par , if the current global economic and socio-political situation trend persist!

Cheers!
