Foreign AffairsRe: BREAKING: Coup In Sudan? President Al-bashir Reportedly Deposed by madmohamed(m): 12:01pm On Apr 11, 2019
IamHeWrites:
President of Sudan, Omar Al-Bashir has allegedly been deposed after a military coup in the nation's capital, Khartoum.

According to reports, the Sudanese Army has removed Al-Bashir from all positions amid reports of a coup in the African country following weeks of anti-government protests.

The Sudanese State Television said on Thursday that the Armed Forces would make an important announcemet, sparking speculation that a coup attempt could be underway against President Al-Bashir, who has ruled the country for 30 years.

“The armed forces will present an important statement shortly. Be ready for it,” the announcement on state television read, without giving further details.

However, hours later the Sudanese were left waiting for details as the there were apparent differences within the military. It was unclear what would happen to Al-Bashir, Sudanese sources however said that the president and his aides had been put under arrest.

As citizens waited for further word, state television and radio played patriotic music, reminding older Sudanese of how military takeovers unfolded during previous episodes of civil unrest.

Local reports says the Armed Forces plans to announce the creation of a military council which would govern the country during a transition period that might last for up to one year.

There are also reports that the Sudanese Army has seized the State TV and Radio offices during their “overthrow” of Al-Bashir from office. As of now, there is no official word on whether or not these reports are true; however, with the ongoing protests across the country, it appears that Al-Bashir’s future as president of Sudan is in jeopardy.

IGBERE TV gathered Thursday morning that in addition to these developments, Khartoum’s International Airport has been shut down, with the military arresting a number of top leaders.

IGBERE TV reports that Sudan has been rocked by persistent protests since December 19, sparked by the government's attempt to increase the price of bread, and an economic crisis that has led to fuel and cash shortages.

The crisis has escalated since the weekend, when thousands of demonstrators began camping out outside the Defence Ministry compound in central Khartoum, where Bashir's residence is located.

Clashes erupted on Tuesday between soldiers trying to protect the protesters and intelligence and security personnel trying to disperse them. “At least 11 people died in the clashes, including six members of the armed forces”, the Information Minister said citing a police report.

Opposition figures have called for the military to help negotiate an end to Bashir's nearly three decades in power and a transition to democracy.

The demonstrators at the Defense Ministry had said that they wanted to submit a petition for the armed forces to take their side in their attempt to remove Bashir and his “Islamist-backed administration.”

IGBERE TV reports that the protests against Al-Bashir gained a boost last week after Algeria's ailing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigned in response to weeks of similar protests against his nearly 20-year rule.

Earlier this week, the US, Britain and Norway called for Sudanese authorities to respond to protesters demands.

“The Sudanese authorities must now respond and deliver a credible plan for this political transition,” the three countries said in a joint statement.

Al-Bashir, an Islamist and former Army officer, seized power in a coup in 1989. He had remained resistant to giving up power in the face of protests, saying that change can only come through elections.

IGBERE TV gathered that Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and genocide committed during the conflict in Darfur.

PoliticsRe: Ortom Defected Because I Told Him The Truth About Herdsmen - Buhari by madmohamed(m): 7:35am On Apr 11, 2019
damilogogle:
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that one of the reasons Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom left the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was because he could not stomach what he (Buhari) explained to him on the farmers/herders clashes in his state.

Buhari said that he explained to Ortom that the cattle rearers and settlers problem in Nigeria was older than himself (Buhari) not to talk of him (Ortom).
Buhari said “But those of you who are neighbours to cattle rearers, Nigerians cattle rearers use to carry only sticks and their machetes to cut foliage for the cattles. But these are cattle rearers with weapons like AK47.

“But the problem is that you can hardly identify the difference between cattle rearers from Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria Chad, Cameroon and other cattle herders. They look the same but I was accused of not doing anything about those operating locally but I took the governor on this and this is one of the reasons he left our party for another party.

“Because I told him the cattle rearers and settlers problem in Nigeria is older than myself not to talk of him and at first republic, there were cattle routes, they put infrastructures and even veterinary.

“But the so-called politicians because they are so much in a hurry to make money they acquire some of these lands and turned them into their private farms.
“So, if you are a cattle rearer or you know about cattle like myself, the herders now pass through anybody land to find water for their cattles to drink.
I told Audu Ogbeh, the minister of agriculture to look at the Gazette of the first republic to get the cattle routes and get the grazing routes and re-establish them so that we can reduce this incidence. Some of you here know the efforts we are making.” he added

NaijaCelebrity:
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has declared a state of public health concern on maternal newborn and child death occurring at the primary health centres.

Similar declaration is expected in states in the next few days to track maternal and child mortality.

Nigeria has one of the worst records in maternal and child mortality in the world. It is recorded that in Nigeria approximately 145 women under the age of 15-45 die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth while 2300 children under five years old die mainly from preventable causes.

Consequently, the agency said it will establish a national coordination centre within the agency to provide oversight on the outlined activities.

The centre, according to the Executive Director of the agency, Dr. Fasal Shuaib shall be called the National Emergency Maternal and Child Health Intervention Centre. (NEMCHIC). Already, the country has received support worth $1.3l million which is to be matched by the government $1.97 million for the next ten years. This fund is to support the country’s immunization programme as part of the effort to reduce maternal and child mortality in Nigeria.

The states also assured of their buy-in to ensure that the initiative achieves its purpose.

Came back this morning from church only to discover that my cable subscription has expired, so i tuned to the only available channel NTA.

I haven't watched NTA for God knows how long now, i was totally disappointed with what was showing on my tv screen, the picture quality and lighting was very poor, audio quality was awful. It was as if i was teleported by to the 1970s or something.

We are in the 21st century for God sake, what will it cost the management of NTA to overhaul the stations. I believe they get budgets annually running into billions. Privately owned and managed tv stations like Channels, Tvc, Arise, Silverbird, AIT, etc are miles ahead of a supposedly more financed NTA. And what's wih the archaic colour combination, can't the colours of the station be changed to something more appealing and brighter? Or do we need a two- third majority of the national assembly to rebrand NTA.

For over 20 years ministers come and go and no one thought it wise to rebrand the station, if it involves sacking some persons to get the station running let the needful be done. NTA is supposed to be a national brand and pride, but what we currently have today is nothing to write home about.

I couldn't spare 3 minutes to watch the station today because it was a torture to the eyes and sense of good taste.
Let the appropriate persons sit up and save the only national tv we have as at today.
I think is only me that think about it. That station should be Shut down I'm not surprise Na ABOKI they manage it what did they know

PoliticsRe: Junaid Mohammed: South Should Forget 2023 Presidency by madmohamed(m): 2:24pm On Apr 06, 2019
dachiwater:
Junaid Mohammed, a Second Republic member of House of Representatives has stated that the South should forget 2023 Presidency as the North will present a candidate in the election year.

The former lawmaker who claimed that zoning and rotation of power have collapsed and as such any region with the political strength can claim the coveted position, also accused Ohanaeze of collecting millions of naira to support Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid. Speaking with Vincent Kalu, Junaid Mohammed who stated that the South should forget 2023 Presidency, added that the 2019 election had people who were responsible for maintaining law and at the forefront on mangling the election and upturning peoples mandate.

On equity in 2023, he said;

I don’t want to hear about this equity and justice, that is sheer nonsense.

The people, who abused this equity and justice, are the people from the Southeast because whatever we are talking about, in a democracy you cannot circumvent voting figures.

You can say it is time for my people. We will not vote for you and let’s see what hap- pens. I said it in one of my statements, look at the way the people of the Southeast voted during the last election; they have a humongous collection of votes and they all voted for Atiku, and they expect somebody to come from his own area to vote for them.

If you want other Nigerians to vote for you, you better look for other Nigerians and make a choice. Maybe, in 2023, Kanu will come and force all Nigerians to vote for them. Democracy is a question of give and take; you vote for me and I vote for you, that was what Michael Okpara used to say. You don’t vote for me and maybe you think that by abusing me on the pages of newspapers that I will vote for you. I will not. If I come back into active politics, it will be because of that. Let us see, for abusing people how they will vote for you.

Look at Ohanaeze, how they are duping people; they collected millions from Atiku. Let us see 2023, by the grace of God, which candidate they want to produce.

There are over 232 ethnic groups in Nigeria, how can anybody be a candidate of a group and expect to be voted by the others. You pressmen you have a responsibility to enlighten people. I want to see how they will pick the candidate from Southeast in 2023. Some of us traditionally, we don’t talk too much, but don’t imagine that we will keep quiet and do your own bidding, it will not happen. See what is happening now, we have started the second term of Buhari’s administration, but today, people are scrambling for 2023, and the Yoruba are saying that it is their turn. How it’s their turn, I don’t know.

We keep on making this mistake of agitation of, ‘it is our turn’ over and over again. After all, somebody says the classical definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

This is what I see happening in Southeast; you don’t vote for anybody, you only vote for who gives money, also those who say they are in APGA; all those who belong to the Igbo faction of PDP. They should think back and think of their own generation of those who are promising and who are educated and who don’t see politics as trading. Politics is not trading; it is a serious matter.

PoliticsRe: Why Igbo Must Give Hausas Land For Market And Burial by madmohamed(m): 12:04pm On Apr 06, 2019
Onijagidijagan:
I woke up to see the thread on the front page of how Hausas plight to get a land(market area) and a burial ground in the east has been aborted.

It is extremely sad how selfish some people can be when the same Hausa and Fulanis you lampooned so much sells pieces of land to you in the northern part at the rate of N80000 per plot and an Igbo man will on the other sell a plot of land at 3 million or 5 millions to the same northerners. Or refused to sell land to the Hausas, Fulani and Yorubas just because they are not Igbos.

In the South West, YORUBA people hosted you people in the South West.. You declared their land a no man's land and threatened to impose traditional title Eze ndigbo etc on their lands eg in Lagos, Oyo, Ondo etc all for hosting you or providing accommodation for you people.

Yoruba people gave you free lands in Lagos via Obasanjo, Tinubu and Fashola regimes but Igbo cannot reciprocate the gestures they thought they got the land because Lagos doesn't belong to the Yorubas.

In the Northern part, The Hausas gave them land they turned their land to a no man's land too. They sell land at a very cheap rate to the Igbos but the gestures was never reciprocated till today instead they start to dominate them.

My suggestion to the Hausas and Fulanis in need of accommodation in the South East is to grab and personalized any befitting land they needed for use in the South East including Nnewi.. I will assure them nothing will come out of it...except if Igbos wants to loose all the lands giving to them outside East. Hausas and Fulanis has all the right to any lands in the South East as long as they Nigerians they don't need to beg anymore for it.

God bless Nigerians.
go and sleep .igbo land is too expensive for por people like you to do business.did u know how much igbo man buy a plot of swamps in Lagos and filled it up just to build a house if u don't know go and ask .stop talking nonsense.

PoliticsRe: FG - Saudi Arabia Defends Execution Of Nigerian Widow For Drug Trafficking by madmohamed(m): 9:13am On Apr 05, 2019
noblejoeuc:
The Federal Government has condemned the execution of a Nigerian, Kudirat Afolabi, by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for drug-related offenses.

Afolabi, a widow, and mother of two, was beheaded on Monday by the Saudi authorities.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mustapha Suleiman, during a meeting on Thursday with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Adnan Bostaji, kicked against the alleged inhumane treatment meted out to the deceased.

At the meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, Suleiman said while Nigeria respected the sovereignty of other countries and abhorred the violation of their domestic laws, the Federal Government would not condone the treatment of any Nigerian in an inhumane manner.

In a statement on Thursday, Suleiman said the Nigerian government also frowned on the failure of the Saudi authorities to inform the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia about Afolabi’s arrest and prosecution, “only to invite the mission to take the last will of the deceased prior to her execution on April 1, 2019.”

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, therefore, wishes to assure Nigerians that it has engaged the Saudi authorities through their Ambassador in Nigeria, to ensure that the normal diplomatic practice of informing missions of the arrests of our nationals is adhered to, and that fair hearing is given to other Nigerians undergoing judicial processes in Saudi Arabia,” Suleiman said in the statement.

But defending Afolabi’s execution, the Saudi envoy said it was “deservedly meted out to the Nigerian woman because she was found guilty of violating the Sharia law.”

Drug trafficking, he added, was not permitted in the Saudi Kingdom, noting, however, that Nigeria and Saudi Arabia enjoyed cordial diplomatic relations.

Speaking to newsmen after the closed-door meeting with the Permanent Secretary, Bostaji noted that the law against drug trafficking applied to everyone in the Kingdom, irrespective of their nationality, stressing that even Saudi citizens were not exempted.

The ambassador said, “Saudi Arabia is following Sharia law and anyone who violates the law by bringing drugs into Saudi Arabia will be punished by the law.

“This is because we want to save our society from drugs. So, if we don’t impose our Sharia law on these guilty people we may not save our society. The law is for all people in Saudi Arabia and not only for Saudi citizens.”

Bostaji insisted that no one could claim ignorance of the law as all visitors to the Kingdom were made to sign an undertaking not to bring drugs to the country before obtaining a Saudi visa.

He expressed dismay over the failure of visitors to obey the law, saying despite the strict penalties, people still took hard drugs to his country.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Isah Dodo, lamented the “notoriety of Nigerians and nationals of other countries in bringing drugs to Saudi,” stressing that the menace had been going on for long.

He pointed out that the law against drugs was clear, adding that anyone who violated it would be executed “and nobody can stop the Saudi Government.”

“So, all we can tell our people is to stop taking drugs to Saudi Arabia or to other countries where the punishment is execution. Nigerians have seen many people executed in Saudi Arabia and this is sufficient to serve as a deterrent to them but they have remained adamant and continued to commit this crime,” Dodo said.
