Let's create our own parallel FIFA and push Blatter and his gang out of business. FIFA doesn't have the influence of the UN and people still dey disobey UN & nottin' dey happen. FIFA is giving themselves too much relevance. Who polices FIFA, by the way? That is not to excuse the lapses in our sports administration. |
edunamic:Yeye like you! You just open dis Nairaland account to dey use peddle your knock-off hardware & crooked-ass 419 visa schemes. Come take visa to Afghanistan for free. Ewu iberibe! ![]() |
chi-baby:I believe that if Leona (or many other artists) were asked again to come to Nigeria she would oblige without much hesitation. The principal consideration here is business and if the money is right, she will come (whether Afghanistan, Nigeria or Iraq). The question then becomes what would it cost for an entertainer to want to go to Afghanistan to do a gig. Whenever these guys are invited for a gig they do their research (security situation and people of the location among other things) and they consult travel advisories and other sources for the necessary information. Do not forget that Nigeria is a good market for foreign entertainers when it comes to live shows, otherwise R. Kelly, Nelly, Akon, Nas, Lionel Richie, e.t.c. wouldn't keep coming. They are not coming because they "love Africa", they are coming because the pay is right, simple. What is the market value of Leona Lewis anyway? I love her voice, her music, her carriage but in the next 5-10 years she'll be likely willing to come to Nigeria for maybe half the price she was offered now. Natalie Imbruglia came to Nigeria for a fairly publicized charity project a couple of years back and hardly anyone noticed. It all comes down to value - the value of the performer and the value they place on the risk they are willing to take. All that value is ultimately translated to the more comprehensible language called naira (or dollar). ![]() |

Until someone murders IBB, his persistent assaults on our national psyche may not end. ![]() |
drmoney:No one is crazy, no one is under a spell. What you see is simply the power of naira & kobo in Nigeria. ![]() |
Dangote never stops thinking up new ways to generate wealth. That's why he's one of two $-denominated Nigerian billionaires in the world today. His business savvy is remarkably astute & worthy of emulation. |
Recently, an American citizen paid a fake $100 bill as his tax. Even in Nigeria, you don't pay tax with cash; it is deducted from your income before salary is paid. Please verify claims so that they at least conform with common sense. If currency is cloned - identically replicated - then it is no longer a fake is it? The good thing is that the cost of attaining such an authentic replica (especially lower denomination bills) is almost the cost of producing the real thing. That is the reason couterfeiters concentrate on the highest available denomination besides the fact that it amounts to higher monetary value against lower denominations. |
hakimi:All this grammar so that IBB can come back? No thanks. Abagworo:He doesn't need to "continue" in order to produce positive change. The problem is that we keep seeing potentials and qualities in our leaders that they really do not possess. He should show us what he's got (which ain't much so far), then we'll see if he'll produce positive change if allowed to continue. His being stagnant simply shows that he either lacks the will to deliver, or just doesn't know what to do. |
saintchux:saintchux, how do you know Goodluck WILL set the 24hrs light record? That's a little far-fetched, don't you think? I mean, the guy has shown no exceptionally outstanding signs of being a visionary leader. Now the president that will give Naija 24 hrs light will have my respect for life. THAT is a record. I live in one of the busiest capitals in the country and it's quite usual for us not to get a blink of light for days at a stretch. If GEJ can change all that dramatically then he has my respect; otherwise there's no fundamental difference between him and the rest. Those who are calling, begging, pushing, advising, e.t.c GEJ to vie for president should please leave him alone. We need to hear his own voice. If he has the political will, he'll contest and if that will is strong enough, he'll make damn sure that only the true winner emerges. More important than vying for office is the will to ensure performance and accountability. |
Same old talk, subsidy removal. You guys have been telling us for years that removing subsidy will guarantee constant product availability, but that ain't true, is it? So if you guys have no new (and convincing) lies to tell us, shut up and let us live! ![]() |
I’m Ready To Die For Jonathan Says Asari Dokubo Yeah, that figures. You are, after all, a terrorist. ![]() Solomon227:There we go again, placing our hope in GEJ as the only means of stopping IBB. When shall we start electing leaders purely based on qualification and experience rather than origin or rotation? ![]() |
lioncoolst:Quite true! Especially the bit about a Nigerian either jumping or pushing the wall. In fact instead of pushing back, a Nigerian will either bribe the pusher or start praying. Or both. That is why a revolution will not happen in this country. The moral latitude to carry out a revolution is simply lacking in us. We just aren't that kind of people, as the last 50 years have proven. Madam Beauty Queen, Sorry that you were assaulted. If you feel strongly about the incident (and you should) please don't hesitate to escalate it and sue the police; sue the policewomen, sue their oga, sue the division and sue the NPF. Cops in this country ought to start paying for their deeds. |
Why dem call off the strike na? I mean, what were they thinking, going on strike? Were they so daft as to think anyone would care? And to say that we should appreciate NEPA for the "little" they have been doing just goes to show once again the typical Naija attitude of condoning and even glorifying medocrity. That is why we are blessed with a modiocre NEPA, mediocre healthcare system, mediocre educational system, mediocre leaders and a less than mediocre economy. As for NEPA staffers, they should be sacked if they ever go on strike again. The salaries they have been receiving are a free allowance, so they shouldn't push their luck - or the patience of Nigerians. Nonsense. ![]() |
usbcable, E be like say you dey work for NEPA ![]() I personally don't give a flyin' f--- whether they go on strike or not; on the average I get power in my area (even in the state) for less than 10 hours in a whole week, these days it's much worse. They should go on strike and die there. Then maybe the gevernment will restrategize and revamp the power sector once and for all. As for the strikers I have no sympathy for the f--kers. They have been receiving salaries for a job not done. Where I come from that's plain thievery. mscheww! ![]() |
Dear Compatriots, IBB is legally qualified to run for president, but is he morally qualified? The answer is no. Those who want him back in power are in it for personal gain, have a short memory, or are simply ignorant - ignorant of the dark years of IBB misrule; they probably were not born then. Again we must begin to do away with this habit of voting ex-soldiers to power, this is a democracy for heaven's sake! We should search carefully for young, credible Nigerians to lead us not the present crop of recycled criminals that keep parading themselves before us. And the irony is that we still queue in the rain and sun to vote for them, knowing fully well how worthless they are! |
na wa o!! ![]() |
dear amalaaba, this kind of paranoid stance you have has rather become a cliche. you are expected to comment on ramadan, not share your warped views on christian vs islamic brands of terrorism. you guys always vent your anger on christians, but you will never see a christian killing a muslim (or anyone else) in the name of Jesus, yet muslim terrorists always murder people "in the name of allah". process that. |
delegiwa, the advert you are talking about belongs to mtn, not glo. hope you're not deluded! |
apocalypse, i really am curious to know where you saw "convocating" as correct grammar or even a real word. even the spell check in this mail is flagging the word. neither of the sources you mentioned appears to have this word. ![]() |
fine piece of work, olawale. i however thought wednesday was pronounced "wenzdi", rather than "wensdei" as you stated. here are some other common mistakes we make in english language usage: sometimes last year (wrong) sometime last year (right) convocating students (wrong) convoking students (right) (come to think of it, do you "invocate" spirits?!) an hausa man (wrong) a hausa man (right) an european sailor (wrong) a european sailor (right) i've being calling you (wrong) i've been calling you (right) thanks for been there (wrong) thanks for being there (right) birds of the same feather fly/flock together (wrong) birds of a feather flock together (right) i shall pay instalmentally (wrong) i shall pay in instalments (right) i am going to a send forth party (wrong) i am going to a send-off party (right) now, when we say that power supply is epileptic, what do we really mean - because "epileptic" cannot quite be used in the context of power supply, so what are we trying to say? is it that power supply is erratic or that it is unavailable most of the time? it is also imperaqive that media outfits(electronic & print) take pains to proofread what they give out as they often broadcast or publish stories that are filled with grammatical and other errors. |
Ivynwa, beyond all the Yar'adua brouhaha, you clearly have something against "Nigerian men", even your artificial positive attitude cannot suppress it. I wonder how you can stand yourself, knowing that you have a Nigerian father and perhaps Nigerian brother(s)/boyfriend/husband. |
DAMN I love this site!!! Anyone can say just about anything they like, anyhow they like it. By the way, someone at the beginning changed the correct spelling of condolence to condolense for no apparent reason other than sheer ignorance. And someone else who claims to be immersed in the sombre mood of mourning is suddenly spitting out obscenities with such passion and venom that can make even a gangster movie scriptwriter cower in embarrassment. Some slowpoke even offered to bang the late president's wife. Well, keep the condolences (and attacks) coming please; it is after all, your constitutional right. The power cabals may not allow us choose freely at the polls but they cannot also stop us speaking freely on this medium. May God bless this country as we continue to seek and insist on progressive change. ![]() |
